The Other Way Season 6 Episode 6 Recap

We’ve officially dipped into the second half of this season of 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way. Now that the reality TV series moves past its midpoint, the couples are tested to see if their lives can truly be compatible in the long run.

Each duo, without exception, is struggling to settle into their new joint lifestyle in some way or another. Their issues run the gambit from emotional to financial to mental, and only time will tell if they can make it through.

Statler Gets Real About Her Insecurities

The episode opens with Dempsey crying as she drives the van. Statler tries to comfort her, saying she didn’t mean to make her shed tears. She also admits that this kind of situation strikes a particular nerve with her, dredging up her anxieties. Statler explained what the experience was like for her mentally:

There’s just always this nagging voice at the back of my head saying, ‘Hey, every time you trust a person, they let you down.’ Every relationship I’ve had, I’m always just waiting for someone to lie or not mean what they say or let me down in some way.

Statler speaks candidly, saying she was aiming to be “brutally honest” with her partner. In the end, the two women are able to resolve the tension, saying that they loved each other. Afterwards, Dempsey says she has a surprise for Statler—the two are going beekeeping. Statler feels this is a wonderfully thoughtful gesture from Dempsey, as she’s a huge lover of bees, and calls it an “un-bee-lievable” day.

Unfortunately, things end on a sour note for Statler when the two board a ferry, and she grows anxious about being stuck on a boat for so long. She has to stare at the horizon the entire time so that she doesn’t feel like she’s going to get sick, and Dempsey struggles to be supportive, not seeming to understand her condition.

Shekinah Reflects On Their Row

After their huge fight over the vanity, Shekinah takes some time to reflect and agrees to meet with Sarper. She tells the cameras that she feels Sarper needs to work on “managing his anger” and “letting go of his need for control.” Despite these issues, she still loves him and wants to try and talk things out. If he doesn’t come to the conversation with the right attitude, she notes, the future of their relationship may be at risk.

The first thing Sarper asks Shekinah about is how her dog Adonis is doing. Shekinah pushes him to do more than make small talk, saying she doesn’t feel sorry for him. She doesn’t hold back about how serious she was about wanting to see his aggressive behavior change:

I see the side of you that’s angry. Every time I see it, it changes how I see you. And eventually, my emotions and feelings towards you are going to completely change.

Sarper admits that he feels overwhelmed about their future plans with the K-1 visa and having to tell his family about it. For her part, Shekinah doesn’t feel like this is enough—she needs to know that his behavior will get better. She even shares that she had a past relationship with a man who had anger issues, so her concerns come from a place of trauma. Sarper feels extreme regret learning about this, growing emotional, saying that he wants to change, and promising that he will go to therapy per Shekinah’s request.

Tension Around The Topics Of Kids Continues For James And Meitalia

We pick up with James and Meitalia as Meitalia gives her husband an intense, traditional Indonesian back massage, leaving red marks across his back. While James rests, Meitalia goes to the park with her sister, Dicee, and her two nephews. She speaks to her sister about her hyperthyroidism and how she needs to keep talking to her doctor about what it means for her fertility.

Meitalia gets up the confidence to confide in Dicee that she worries James may not want to have kids. She remains upset that he admitted his hesitations to her friend Adele but not to his own wife. Dicee urges her sister to talk to James about it calmly, not while she’s experiencing “unstable emotions,” or else she could blow up. “I just hope his answer doesn’t break my heart or our relationship,” she admits to the cameras.

Later, Meitalia finally broaches the subject with James, asking why he would talk to Adele about the sensitive topic and not her. He apologizes for telling Adele about it first, and goes on to say he hasn’t completely made up his mind about kids, though he may be leaning against having them because the world feels like a “toxic place” to raise them in the current moment.

Despite feeling like Meitalia would make a great mother, he worries about being able to provide for a child. He says he can’t give her a straight answer until they feel more stable in their life in Indonesia. Meitalia accepts this, but tells the cameras, “I don’t want to wait and hope forever.”

Sean Feels Like He’s Sneaking Around

Now that Joanne is in Ireland with her sons, the kids get more acquainted with Sean. For their visit, Sean has rented a house in the countryside for them to stay in so that everyone has their own space. Joanne and Sean even sleep separately because Sean’s daughter, Bella, doesn’t yet know that the two are in a romantic relationship.

Sean cooks breakfast for everyone, knowing the plan afterward is for him to bond with Joanne’s two sons on his own. The three play soccer together in the yard and then Sean sits down with Joanne’s eldest son, Joey, who expresses that he feels like he hasn’t heard much about Sean’s relationship with his mother. “I feel like I’m lying to them,” Sean admits, saying he’s growing anxious about sharing that he and Joanne are actually married. The teaser for the upcoming episode shows the blended family sitting down to finally reveal the truth to their children.

New episodes of 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way air Mondays at 9pm ET on TLC, Max and Discovery+.
