PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) -Our Diego’s Burrito Factory High School game of the week this week is the Bay County rivalry game between Arnold and Mosley set for Tommy Oliver Friday night. Let’s start with the Marlins camp. Coach Jason Griffin and his staff have certainly turned things around in short order at Arnold. Last year the team winless, unable to score hardly any points at all. This season, six wins in the first 8 games, with the most recent of those wins coming last week at home against Fort Walton Beach. And next week the Marlins will take on Rickards in a game that could earn Arnold a playoff berth. So much to feel good about at this point. Still this week, the task ahead is daunting, given they’re taking on an 8-0 Mosley team that’s basically steamrolled every opponent so far this season.
“You know it’s undeniable, it’s a great football team that Mosley has got this year.” Coach Griffin tells us. “You know Tommy Joe has done a great job with them. I think they’ve got 22 seniors over there, all experienced football players that have been in his program for a long time. so you know they’ve done a great job, and they really have an outstanding football team. There’s no way around it, we’ve got a Herculian task ahead of us this week. You know it’s a great challenge but at the same time you know we’re going to try to stay focused on what, on the positives here. From where Arnold’s been to be playing for the outright county championship against a great Mosley team and to be in that football game is a great accomplishment for our guys. You know I think our guys are going to be focused on, this week on improving and getting better as a football team. And then going out and giving Mosley the best we’ve got and we’ll see how it turns out.”
As for the Dolphins, well again a perfect 8-0, and coming off the 37-28 win over their big district rival Niceville. The Dolphins still with some work to do next week against Gulf Breeze to lock down a district title, and certainly not overlooking the vastly improved Marlins. Still coach Whiddon expecting a lot of his guys, they want to be unbeaten and take the number one seed in the region.
“And just what goes along with that. You know obviously you get into the playoffs, that means you get home games all the way through. But it also means you’re going to get everybody’s best shot. From here on out. And you know we talked about how climbing the mountain is really hard. And I tell them I’ll defer to Coach Saba on this one, staying at the top of the mountain is even harder. And so that’s the message to the team, that we’ve got to stay hungry, and we’ve got to be humble. And continue to get better at every single day.”
Mosley has won six straight in this series and seven of the last nine. That game at Chapman Field set for 7 Friday night and is one of several we’ll feature on Friday Night Overtime.
