Two unbeaten teams remain in Fredericksburg: Stafford and Fredericksburg Christian, who just improved to 6-0 with a dominant 48-0 win over Smith Mountain Lake Christian on Friday.
Not only have the Eagles remained perfect through its first six games of the season, they’ve been one of the highest-scoring offenses among Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association programs, averaging 42.7 points per game so far.
Five of those games have seen FCS score 40 or more points, including two 45-plus point performances.
“I feel we have one of the best RBs in Virginia in senior Christian Ray, but we have also been able to strike down the field with our WRs when needed,” head coach David DeArmas said in a text message. “Sophomore QB Trip Blalock is not playing like a first-year starter. His composure in the pocket has been great, and his ability to scramble when needed has helped keep the chains moving.”

On the other side of the ball, the Eagles have been just as dominant, pitching three shutouts while allowing 5.5 points a game to opponents over this span.
“Our defense this year has been a high point for us,” DeArmas said. “You can’t ask for anymore than for us to be headed into week seven having given up 33 points total this year.”
Despite this strong start, it’s important to look at the remainder of Fredericksburg Christian’s schedule, as last year saw the team begin 5-0 before a 1-4 end. Three of those four losses came against teams remaining on this year’s schedule: Fork Union Military Academy, Nansemond-Suffolk Academy and Blue Ridge.
The end of this season’s schedule for the Eagles won’t be easy, but an improved team from last season will make those last four games competitive.
“We know we are going to be tested the rest of the season with the teams on our schedule,” DeArmas said.
High-scoring games and performances became the norm
This week might have been the highest-scoring week in the region so far this season as many teams lit up the scoreboard with strong offensive showings.
Seven different teams scored at least 40 points in games and eight scored 38 or more points. This included the highest-scoring game in Fredericksburg-area history between Stafford and Brooke Point, a 63-56 shootout that featured 119 total points scored.
“Our defense struggled at times, but our players’ will to win and grit found a way,” Stafford head coach Jeff Drugatz said.
That included more than 600 total yards of offense from the Black-Hawks, in a losing effort, as Stafford was able to withstand the offensive attack but still come away with a win.
Among the high-scoring teams this week was Louisa (3-2), which has now scored 40 or more points in three-straight games, all wins. Scoreboards won’t be able to keep up with the scoring at this rate.
Caroline’s performance makes them a Battlefield District threat
It was nearly a game that Caroline came up short, a loss that would have put them under .500 in Battlefield District play, but a late touchdown gave the Cavaliers a 26-21 win over Culpeper on Friday, making them 2-1 in district play.
That win was massive for a team that was coming off its first loss of the season last week against Eastern View.
Caroline still trails both Eastern View and King George in the district as both teams are currently still unbeaten in the Battlefield. A win like Friday is exactly the momentum the program needs moving forward.
“This win feels great,” Caroline head coach Terry Alexander Jr. said. “It showed that this is a relentless team and it’s going to be a dangerous team toward the end. We’ve already had a few nail biters early, but we got those out of the way.”
Creamer makes history for Stafford
Friday saw a new record set for Stafford football as running back Michael Creamer is now the all-time rushing touchdown leader for the program, breaking a record set back in 1966 by Horace Green.
Creamer ran for four touchdowns in the win and now has 37 in his career as he had yet another 200-yard performance on the ground.
The senior Richmond commit tied Green’s record last week in a thrilling 35-31 win over Colonial Forge, a game that featured a two-touchdown effort from him.
