“I woke up and realized I was dead. Sin had finally taken me out.”
That is how author Isaac Traylor, of Little Rock, Arkansas, described his life of sex and drugs. This was before he was resurrected from it all. It was through the prayers of his mother, Mrs. Dorothy Jean Traylor, his late father, Mr. Henry “Pete” Traylor, and God that he was able to bounce back after a 25-year addiction.
During that time, the first-time author described himself as “a zombie in broad daylight,” walking around. He was completely unaware of how he looked and what his life had become, and he said he didn’t care what anyone thought of him.
His dissent into his destructive maelstrom isn’t one you would expect from the Sunday School lad from a stable Christian home with two older sisters.
Although he was raised in a loving home with his mom, who instilled in him his moral values, he said at a young age, he was trying to live a life as an adult. He became a father at the age of 13 and was hanging around a much older crowd who weren’t positive in his life.
In 7th grade, he was a popular athlete and started smoking weed. That was followed by him getting his first car, a 1977 Ford Thunderbird, and from there, his toxic life of sex, drugs, popularity, and vanity began. It lasted off and on for most of his early adult life
Traylor said he had gotten so deep in his toxic life that even drug dealers would come to him looking for drugs to sell. He had the money, car, and women, but things were falling apart. He already had two children, and that increased to six. He was a single father looking for love, but not in a good place in his life.
It wasn’t until years later, when he found himself homeless and in jail for stealing a package of 99-cent bologna, did he realize he had hit rock bottom. It was around the same time his father became ill, and things slowly started to change.
He looked up to his father, and on more than one occasion, along with his mother, his father helped him get out of tight spots during his addiction. Many times, he said his parents helped him with his children and gave him money and food.
So, while he sat in jail reminiscing on his life, he turned to his faith and began to pray and ask God for help. He remembered all his mom’s teachings. He started reading the Bible.
Looking back on those times, he said, “Going to jail was the best thing that ever happened to me,” for it made him slow down and reflect on his life. It helped him realize that this current lifestyle was slowly killing him, and he had to change.
Now that he has defeated his demon addictions, Traylor said he does not put himself in situations that might cause him to fall back, but at the same time, he does not want to forget where he came from and wants to help others.
In addition to being a father, grandfather, son, and brother, he is also the proud owner of 3-I Pressure Washing & Detail and the founder of the non-profit “I Care Outreach.” With his non-profit, he said he can reach out to others who have gone through or are going through what he went through and help them.
Traylor said it is never too late to change, no matter what the situation. While his book is peppered with Bible verses of affirmation and encouragement, he ends the book with a verse from Proverbs 3:5-7.
Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the Lord, and depart from evil.
William “Isaac” Traylor is an author, motivational speaker, and US Military Vet. He describes himself as a humble young man who has had his trials and tribulations with drugs and alcohol. He said he had been tested by fire and passed the challenges by the grace of God and with the love of his mother, Dorothy Traylor, and late father, Henry “Pete” Traylor, who never gave up on him during his time of despair.
Traylor owns 3-I Pressure Washing & Detail and is the founder of the non-profit I Care Outreach. It was because of his mother’s prayers that he was able to write Resurrection Power: A True Story. He said it is his goal to “share my story, my true story, with the world and all that I come in contact with. If I can save one person, I have done my job.”
Traylor lives in Arkansas with his children and grandchildren.
