BLACKSBURG, Va. — No. 17 Clemson football looks to rebound after its shocking upset loss last week.
The Tigers’ College Football Playoff hopes were reduced after their 33-21 loss to Louisville at home. They lacked energy out of the open date, their offense failed to connect on explosive plays and their run defense was gashed. They have a slim path to the CFP now, needing other teams to lose for a shot to make it.
Clemson (6-2, 5-1 ACC) takes on conference foe Virginia Tech (5-4, 3-2), a team that has lost by one possession in each of its defeats this season. The Hokies are led by quarterback Kyron Drones, who missed last week’s game but may return Saturday. Virginia Tech running back Bhayshul Tuten is second in the ACC in rushing yards (951) and touchdowns (12), and Hokies defensive lineman Antwaun Powell-Ryland leads the nation in sacks with 12.
Saturday’s game (3:30 p.m. ET, ESPN) at Lane Stadium will be the 37th matchup between these two programs with Clemson leading the all-time series 23-12-1.
