Although hat trick is a sports phrase long associated with hockey, Harbor Creek’s Rowan Wolfe recorded one during Tuesday’s District 10 Class 3A girls soccer final.
Wolfe’s three-goal performance highlighted the Huskies’ 4-0 victory vs. Warren at Dollinger Field. They’ll carry a 12-7 record into next week’s PIAA tournament.
However, Wolfe’s scoring achievement still isn’t why it was notable. Not only did the sophomore score three times in one match against the Dragons (11-9), but also accomplished that total within the first half of the first half.
Less, actually. The midfielder, at the expense of Warren goalkeeper Ella Campbell, converted three shots in a 12-minute, 22-second span.

Tack on Ellie Surovick’s goal amid them, and the Huskies had an advantage they maintained the match’s remaining 30 minutes.
“I love impacting this team and doing what I can,” Wolfe said. “I’m so excited and ready for (states).”
Goalies Aubrey McClay and Skylar Grochulski shared in Harbor Creek’s shut out of Warren.

Price was right for McLane
General McLane’s boys soccer team followed Harbor Creek’s victory with its own in Tuesday’s 3A championship match.
The Lancers not only won on the same pitch the Huskies did, but by the same final score.
McLane’s 4-0 win secured the program’s first district title trophy since its 2011 team finished first in that year’s Class 2A bracket.
“We’ve kind of been the Buffalo Bills of (district finals),” coach Dan Young said. “It’s been a long time, so it’s so great to finally bring one home to General McLane.”

While the Lancers (16-3) didn’t bunch their four goals to the extreme that Harbor Creek’s girls did, they never trailed the Bulldogs (11-4) after Aidan Price scored with 22:10 left in the first half.
A ball that bounced over the head of Simon Farrelly-Jackson likely would have stopped at the back of Meadville’s net. However, Price still guaranteed that would occur when he also got behind the Bulldogs’ goalie and nudged it in that direction.
Price also assisted on McLane’s third and fourth goals, respectively scored by Gio Masone and Carter Sindlinger.
Masone also accounted for the Lancers’ second goal.
“We worked really hard over the last couple weeks to prepare for this (match),” Price said. “We went out strong and got a couple early goals. That really helped us.”
The Lancers’ Johnny Kavelish was in net throughout their third and final victory against Meadville this season.

Who’s next
Harbor Creek must wait until Halloween to learn its opponent for next Tuesday’s first round of the PIAA 3A girls tournament.
The Huskies do know it will be the WPIAL’s third seed. Plum and Mars Area will meet in that District 7 elimination match on Thursday at North Allegheny High School’s Newman Stadium, located in Wexford.
McLane’s boys will start state action against District 9 Bradford or District 8 Taylor Allderdice. Those schools will meet in Wednesday’s PIAA subregion final at Cupples Stadium in downtown Pittsburgh.
