The calendar has turned to November, and the brackets have been released right on cue to give shape to the MIAA football playoffs.
The Catholic Conference secured the top three seeds in Division 1 and the top spot in Division 2, with Catholic Memorial looking to score a third Super Bowl triumph in four seasons. Undefeated Reading sits atop D3, Shawsheen leads D5, Hudson is the favorite in D6, and Uxbridge looks capable of repeating as the top seed in D7.
There are plenty of contenders and sleepers in each division capable of making a run to the Super Bowls, which will be held Dec. 4-6 at Gillette Stadium.

The fight in Division 1 will be as competitive as ever, with No. 1 seed Lincoln-Sudbury (3.6214 power rating), defending champion Walpole (3.5927) at No. 2, and Algonquin (3.2435) third. No. 4 Andover will shoot for its fourth straight trip to the final.
L-S has earned the top seed for the first time in 24 years. No. 7 Franklin, No. 8 Bishop Feehan, and No. 12 Natick are all capable.
Norwood, the No. 1 seed in Division 2, had the highest power rating (3.9832) in any division thanks to its stiff schedule. Somerset Berkley, at No. 2, is always a major threat, followed by Notre Dame-Hingham, and Nashoba. Defending champion Reading is at No. 8 following three consecutive losses this month.
In Division 3 and 4, it’s déjà vu, with defending champions Watertown and Uxbridge once again in a position to hoist a trophy. However, if Watertown is to win its 22nd title, the Raiders will need to do so from the No. 2 seed. Top-seeded Sandwich (20-0) has put together a spectacular season. Newburyport is at No. 3 after its marvelous run to the final last year. Uxbridge has not shied away from a challenging schedule, with matchups against Andover, Walpole, and Algonquin. No. 2 Monomoy is prepped for another deep run.

The girls’ volleyball tournament is underway, with the first round wrapping up on Monday. See the latest scores here.
There are 197 teams competing across five divisions. Newton North, the top seed in Division 1, is looking to three-peat. Though the Tigers have graduated stellar hitters the past two years (Abigail Wright and Chloe Lee), senior hitter Devon Burke and sophomore setter Sasha Selivan are arguably the best duo in the state.
No. 2 Brookline and No. 4 Attleboro have an advantage in hitting depth, making them top contenders. No. 3 Lincoln-Sudbury, No. 5 Needham, and No. 7 Barnstable are not far removed from finals appearances.
In Division 2, No. 1 Westborough did not miss a beat despite graduating two-time Massachusetts Gatorade Player of the Year Quinn Anderson. With senior Georgia Tyrell stepping up as the top outside hitter and classmate Sam Norman dishing sets, the two-time defending champ Rangers once again completed a season that would have been undefeated had they not played Newton North. The Hockomock is well-represented here with No. 2 Oliver Ames and No. 6 Canton. No. 3 Billerica and No. 7 Longmeadow come in undefeated.
A first-time Division 3 winner in 2023, Weston had a rollercoaster of a season but managed to take the top seed with nearly the whole championship roster back. Medfield, last year’s runner-up, is the second seed. No. 13 Shawsheen is the lone undefeated entry. No. 10 Dennis-Yarmouth and No. 4 Old Rochester have played each other three consecutive postseasons. If it happens a fourth time, it would be in the final.
Ipswich went undefeated in the regular season as the Tigers seek their fourth straight Division 4 title. They come in at No. 2 to last year’s runner-up Bellingham. The teams went to five sets last time around. Another team that finished second opening as the top seed this time: Bourne in Division 5. Defending champion Mt. Greylock is the No. 4 seed.
