Is Dal Enough For Your Protein Requirements?

Many people think that just consuming dal on a daily basis is enough to meet your daily protein requirement, but it isn’t. As per holistic health coach Luke Coutinho, lentils and legumes are incomplete proteins that lack essential amino acids like methionine. However, to make sure to have a balanced meal, combine dal with rice and wheat – which are low in lysine and rich in methionine. When you combine these two food items, it becomes packed with essential amino acids necessary for human health.

How To Digest Dal Like A Pro

While various dals have multiple health benefits, digesting them could seem like a task for many – thanks to their high fibre content. Ayurvedic doctor Varalakshmi Yanamandra suggests 5 tips to make your dal eating experience hassle-free.

    1. Soak It

If you want to keep your gut happy, don’t skip on soaking dal. Soak it for at least 4-6 hours to break down its tough exterior. This will make it easier to digest and reduce the chances of gas and bloating.

    2. Avoid Tomatoes And Lemon Mid-Cooking

Yes, tomatoes and lemon make your dal flavourful their acidity can toughen the dal’s skin during cooking, making it harder to digest. The expert suggests boiling tomatoes first, removing the seeds, and only adding them later. As for lemon, add it to your dal only after it is fully cooked and soft.

    3. Keep Salt For Last

Adding salt too early can harden the dal’s outer later and lead to uneven cooking. While cooking, add the salt at the end for best results.

    4. Use Spices And Fat

Spices aren’t just there to level up the flavour. Using hing, bay leaves, and ajwain helps break down complex carbs in pulses, which reduces gas and makes your digestion smoother. A fat base won’t just add flavour but also help your body absorb nutrients better.

Millionaire tech entrepreneur Bryan Johnson, who is trying to reverse ageing, was in India earlier this month to promote his book ‘Don’t Die’. During his one-week trip, Johnson reportedly did not try any Indian food as he brought with him “every calorie I’ll eat for six days”. However, the tech mogul now seems to be impressed with Indian meals. In his recent X post, Johnson spoke about the goodness of Indian cuisine. He wrote, “Power is moving away from football and fast food and towards health, science, and Indian food.”

  • Tips for Choosing the Perfect SUV for Your Lifestyle

Tips for Choosing the Perfect SUV for Your Lifestyle

SUVs are among the most popular vehicle types in the United States. It’s not hard to see why when you consider their size—it’s almost as though they were designed with American roads in mind. However, because they are so popular, there are many different makes and models for car buyers to choose from.

If you are interested in picking one up, it’s important to shop around and see what’s on offer. This post will explore this topic in more detail and tell you how you can choose the perfect SUV for your lifestyle.

    Comparison Guides

Comparison guides are perhaps the best learning resources you can turn to if you are struggling to decide which SUV you should buy. You can find guides covering everything, from Bronco vs Bronco Sport comparison articles to ones that explain the benefits of other Ford offerings.

The best thing about comparison guides is that they weigh up the pros and cons of specific makes and models, which allows you to quickly educate yourself about different types of vehicles.

In addition to comparison guides, you should read the reviews of car manufacturers and the cars that interest you. Reviews will give you insight into working with specific vendors or buying certain cars from the perspective of consumers, not industry experts.

    Consider Comfort

Comfort is always an important consideration. It’s unwise to buy an SUV you don’t feel comfortable in. The only way to determine whether or not a specific SUV is comfortable is to visit a dealer with it in stock and inspect it yourself. Bear in mind that if you buy an SUV directly from a dealer, you should be able to customize it.

Vehicle customization can be expensive, but it’s a great way to enhance an already comfortable SUV’s level of comfort. You can also turn an SUV that isn’t especially comfortable in its most basic form into one that is a pleasure to sit inside. You can also perform aftermarket modifications yourself.

    Think About Size

Size is an important consideration. While all SUVs are larger than ordinary sedans, some are compact. If you are interested in buying a car with off-road capabilities and all of the benefits of SUVs, but you don’t want a vehicle that takes up a lot of space, consider buying a compact SUV.

Compact SUVs are ideal for commuter use, because they consume much less fuel than standard SUVs do. Make sure that you get in touch with a dealer and talk about your options if compact SUVs interest you. This is so you can find a vehicle that suits your lifestyle needs.

    Frequency of Use

How often do you plan on using your new SUV? If it’s every day, you obviously need to find a vehicle that’s appropriately sized and fuel efficient. The last thing you need to deal with is high fuel prices. You also need to think about your location. If you live in a large city, a compact SUV might be a better option than a very large one.

A large SUV will make it difficult for you to manoeuvre through city traffic. However, if you live in a rural area, a large SUV is your best option, because they offer a more comfortable and convenient driving experience.

    Fuel Efficiency

Fuel efficiency is very important. Prices are higher than ever, and many people are struggling to afford to fill their cars up. Many modern SUVs are hybrid, which means that they are both electric- and fuel-powered. You can use hybrid cars in city and rural areas.

Something to note about hybrids is that you can save a lot of money by installing charging stations at home. Installing a charging station can be expensive but is definitely worthwhile. If you have any questions about hybrid vehicles, get in touch with a representative of the car manufacturer you plan on working with and direct your questions to them.

Tips for Choosing the Perfect SUV for Your Lifestyle

    Test Drives

Finally, make sure that you test drive cars before you buy them. A lot of people make the mistake of totally overlooking test drives. The main benefit of test drives is that they give you an opportunity to get a feel for how specific cars handle before you purchase them.

Most dealerships offer test drives, sometimes unsupervised, and sometimes supervised. In addition to test driving SUVs, if you are buying a used vehicle, you also need to perform safety inspections. This is so you can rule out any mechanical damage prior to purchase.

SUVs are convenient, comfortable, and attractive. If you are interested in buying one, think about the things mentioned here. They will hopefully help you to pick up the right SUV for you and your loved ones.

  • More of us are commuting again. Here’s a guide to choosing the right work bag

More of us are commuting again. Here’s a guide to choosing the right work bag

    Open this photo in gallery:

Hybrid work arrangements have been gaining ground since early 2022, according to Statistics Canada. For many of us, that means toting our laptops and work essentials back and forth between our homes and the office every week, if not daily.

Finding the right work bag – one that looks good, fits a laptop and maybe a packed lunch, and is durable and comfortable enough for regular commutes – can be tough. Jean-Philippe Robert, head of product and CEO of Montreal-based accessories label Want Les Essentiels, says that “a bag is really personal and the comfort of every bag is also very personal, depending on your height and your body shape.”

To start, you want to find something that will protect your back. “You’ve got to make sure that the weight of the strap is fairly well distributed on your back,” says Robert. Details such as the length of the handles or straps will also affect how a bag feels, depending on whether you are going to primarily wear it crossbody or on your shoulder, or just hold it in your hand. “Having an adjustable strap is essential,” says Robert. “Everyone wears it differently.” He notes that a four-centimetre-wide strap is standard for larger or heavier bags, whereas strap widths can vary for lighter bags that carry less.

Robert suggests narrowing down the options by really thinking about what you will be using the bag for, and trying on your top picks in person, if possible. For example, a laptop pocket is a must-have feature for many hybrid workers, whereas frequent travellers might look for a secure passport pocket. “It’s all in how the pockets are placed on the bag, the different volumes,” he says. “So [look for] pockets, but maybe not too many pockets so you don’t get lost in your bag.”

Finally, the look and material of the bag are also important considerations. A synthetic leather bag, for example, will typically be more affordable than leather options. However, a leather bag will “age better” and gain “a natural patina” over time, says Robert. “A leather bag, if well taken care of, can last for many, many years, over 20, 25, 30 years.”

When it comes to maintaining your musculoskeletal health, the Canadian Chiropractic Association suggests using a backpack with padded straps. And when carrying a heavy tote or a satchel for extended periods, remember to alternate hands and shoulders to avoid overtaxing one side.

    Six buys to try

Considering how often you’ll wear it, and the constant loads it will carry, it’s worth investing in a bag that you’ll want to wear for years to come.

  • Choosing the Right Cannabis Strain for Your Lifestyle

Choosing the Right Cannabis Strain for Your Lifestyle

Cannabis is more than just a plant; it’s a lifestyle choice for many Canadians. Whether you’re seeking relaxation, creativity, or medical relief, choosing the right cannabis strain can make all the difference in your experience. With a range of strains like indica, sativa, and hybrid available, it can be overwhelming to decide which is best suited for your needs. In this guide, we’ll explore the unique characteristics of each strain and how factors like Canada’s climate and growing conditions influence the quality of the product. So, whether you’re a seasoned enthusiast or a curious beginner, this guide will help you make informed choices. If you’re looking to buy craft weed, understanding strain differences is the first step to a tailored experience.

Understanding Cannabis Strains: Indica, Sativa, and Hybrid

When it comes to cannabis, not all strains are created equal. Each strain has distinct characteristics that produce different effects on the mind and body. Here’s a breakdown of the three primary types of cannabis strains:

    1. Indica

Indica strains are known for their relaxing effects. These are the strains you’ll want to reach for when you need to unwind after a long day. Indica-dominant strains are typically associated with full-body relaxation and are often recommended for evening use. They are ideal for people looking to relieve stress, reduce anxiety, or manage insomnia.

Because of its calming properties, many medical cannabis users opt for indica to ease conditions such as chronic pain, muscle spasms, and migraines. If you’re someone who prefers a laid-back lifestyle or needs help with sleep, an indica strain might be just what you’re looking for.

    Popular Indica Strains in Canada:

    • Granddaddy Purple
    • Northern Lights
    • Blueberry

    2. Sativa

On the opposite end of the spectrum is sativa, a strain known for its energizing and uplifting effects. If you’re looking for a boost in creativity or focus, sativa strains are the way to go. These are typically used during the day, as they can help with mood elevation, enhance productivity, and increase motivation.

Sativa is often favored by artists, writers, and professionals in creative fields, as it helps to unlock new ideas and stimulate mental clarity. For medical purposes, sativa is used to alleviate symptoms of depression and fatigue. If you’re looking for a strain that aligns with an active, high-energy lifestyle, sativa could be the perfect match.

    Popular Sativa Strains in Canada:

    • Sour Diesel
    • Jack Herer
    • Durban Poison

    3. Hybrid

Hybrid strains offer the best of both worlds. By crossing indica and sativa strains, growers create hybrids that provide a balance of effects. Whether you want something relaxing without being too sedative or energizing without feeling jittery, there’s likely a hybrid strain to suit your needs.

Hybrids are great for those who want versatility, as the balance between indica and sativa offers a more nuanced experience. You can find hybrids that lean more towards either indica or sativa, depending on your preferences. These strains are ideal for those who want a bit of relaxation while maintaining functionality or for someone seeking moderate relief from medical conditions.

    Popular Hybrid Strains in Canada:

    • Blue Dream
    • OG Kush
    • Pineapple Express

How Canadian Climate Influences Cannabis Quality

One of the key factors influencing cannabis strain quality is the climate in which it’s grown. Canada’s unique growing conditions have a significant impact on the potency, flavor, and overall experience of cannabis.

    1. Cold Climate and Outdoor Growing

In regions like British Columbia, where outdoor growing is common, the cold climate plays a critical role in the development of cannabis plants. Cooler temperatures can bring out rich colors, particularly in indica strains, giving them vibrant purples and blues. These lower temperatures also result in denser buds, which is often a desirable quality for both recreational and medical cannabis.

Outdoor-grown cannabis in Canada is known for its organic quality and unique flavor profiles, often influenced by the natural soil, fresh air, and exposure to sunlight. However, outdoor growing also requires a specific understanding of the local environment to ensure that the plants thrive in these colder temperatures.

    2. Indoor Growing and Craft Weed

Canada’s cannabis industry has also seen significant growth in indoor cultivation, particularly with the rise of craft weed. Indoor growing allows for complete control over the environment, enabling growers to fine-tune conditions such as humidity, temperature, and light exposure. This precision results in highly potent and flavorful strains.

Craft weed, often grown indoors, is recognized for its top-tier quality, with every aspect of the process closely monitored. Craft growers in Canada are dedicated to small-batch production, ensuring that each plant gets the care and attention it needs to produce a superior product. When you buy craft weed, you’re getting a meticulously cultivated strain designed to deliver the best possible experience.

Matching Your Lifestyle to the Right Strain

Now that you understand the basic types of cannabis and how growing conditions in Canada affect quality, it’s time to think about how these factors align with your personal lifestyle. Are you looking for relaxation, creativity, or medicinal benefits? Here’s how to match your needs with the right strain:

    1. For Relaxation and Stress Relief

If you lead a high-stress life or struggle to unwind, an indica strain could be your best bet. The deep body relaxation and calming effects will help you release tension and ease into a state of tranquility. Whether you’re looking to de-stress after work or wind down before bed, a strong indica strain can help you find your peace.

    • Best Strains for Relaxation: Northern Lights, Granddaddy Purple, Hindu Kush

    2. For Creativity and Focus

Do you need a mental boost to get your creative juices flowing? If so, a sativa strain could be exactly what you need. Perfect for daytime use, sativa strains provide an uplifting and energizing experience, making them ideal for creative projects, brainstorming sessions, or simply staying focused throughout the day.

    • Best Strains for Creativity: Jack Herer, Sour Diesel, Green Crack

    3. For Pain Relief and Medical Use

For those dealing with chronic pain, anxiety, or other medical conditions, choosing the right strain is critical. Indica strains are often recommended for their ability to relieve physical discomfort, while sativa strains are sometimes used to treat mental health issues like depression or anxiety. Hybrid strains can offer balanced effects, providing relief without overwhelming sedation or stimulation.

    • Best Strains for Medical Use: Blue Dream (hybrid), ACDC (CBD-rich), Harlequin (CBD-rich)

    4. For a Balanced Lifestyle

If you’re someone who wants a bit of everything—whether relaxation, creativity, or medical relief—a hybrid strain is a great choice. Hybrids provide a balanced experience that allows you to enjoy the benefits of both indica and sativa. You can choose a hybrid that leans more towards one side depending on your needs for the day, making them incredibly versatile.

    • Best Hybrid Strains: Pineapple Express, OG Kush, Girl Scout Cookies

How to Buy the Right Strain in Canada

When it comes to purchasing cannabis in Canada, especially if you’re looking to buy craft weed, you want to ensure you’re getting the best quality available. Look for licensed dispensaries that specialize in craft cannabis, as they often have a wide variety of strains and knowledgeable staff who can guide you based on your needs.

Check the cannabinoid content (THC and CBD levels) to match your desired effects, and don’t be afraid to ask questions about how each strain was grown. Whether indoor or outdoor, each method has its pros and cons, but understanding the background of your product can help you make a more informed choice.

    Conclusion

Choosing the right cannabis strain is a personal journey, one that depends on your lifestyle, preferences, and needs. Whether you’re seeking relaxation, creativity, or medical relief, understanding the differences between indica, sativa, and hybrid strains will help guide your decision. In Canada, the climate and growing conditions play a crucial role in strain quality, with craft weed offering a premium experience for those seeking top-tier products.

No matter what you’re looking for, there’s a cannabis strain out there perfectly suited for your lifestyle. Take the time to explore different options, and you’ll soon discover the ideal match to elevate your cannabis experience.
