If you are from Delhi, you’d know that its charm has been encapsulated in everything – from food to monuments. The city is brimming with fabulous options for drinks and dining, catering to every mood and occasion. And now, a new cocktail menu has come to the city to capture its essence. Cirrus 9 at The Oberoi, in collaboration with the renowned Italian mixologist Giancarlo Mancino, has release its Signature Skyline Cocktail menu, to celebrate the city’s landmarks and vibrant culture through artisanal drinks.

What chefs are to kitchens is what mixologists are to bars. While striking a beautiful balance between delicious flavours and strong spirits is an art, Mancino proved why he is considered a maestro. Each cocktail on the menu is a love letter to Delhi, beautifully blending history, art and innovative mixology.
We began our cocktail journey with a fantastic cocktail called Heritage Greens, which is an ode to Sunder Nursery. With its tropical, complex and zesty flavours, it was a refreshing view of Delhi’s lush heritage and iconic gardens.

Next up, we savoured Haat Haven, inspired by the vibrant and eclectic spirit of Dilli Haat. It was sweet, nutty and zesty – the perfect cocktail to represent Dilli Haat’s playfulness and hustling bustling atmosphere. To capture the essence of Delhi’s famous Purana Qila, we indulged in The Qila Legacy which offered earthy, floral and tingling notes. This cocktail is the perfect tribute to the monument’s rich history and timeless elegance.

If you love the grandeur of Bharat Mandapam, then The Mandapam Marvel would have been a delight for your taste buds. With its herbaceous, aromatic and incredibly refreshing ingredients, the Mandapam Marvel left us intrigued with every sip.

The timeless sophistication of Lutyens’ Delhi was captured by their offering – Lutyens’ Elegance. It has delicate, sweet-savoury and bitter notes that delivered a perfect blend of modernity and old charm.
As we progressed with our charming cocktails, the next on the list was the Connaught Classic – a fruity, vibrant, and herbaceous cocktail that captures the charm on Delhi’s Connaught Place.

Not only it, the menu also made sure the golf enthusiasts were entertained. The 18th Hole presented to us has bittersweet, fruity richness. While Altitude 124 offered smooth tropical and citrusy notes, a homage to Cirrus 9’s height.

We concluded our night with Astral Harmony. While it may seem like a sweet cocktail, it actually has a peppery, smoky, and acidic profile that is synonymous with Jantar Mantar’s harmony and grandeur.
All in all, the experience was fantastic. All the cocktails – which were paired with numerous finger foods and cheese platters – were not just about the spirits but an immersive experience into the soul of Delhi!

CIRQA: Lower Parels Newest Cocktail Bar That Exudes Elegance And Craftsmanship

CIRQA Review: Many corners of Lower Parel have become undeniably attractive hubs for culinary enthusiasts in the city. Vast spaces occupied by Mumbai’s famous mills in bygone times are now home to fine-dining restaurants, luxury retail stores and other surprising establishments. The evolution of these localities is a testament to the city’s nature to constantly change and renew its offerings. We recently visited the Todi Mills area of Lower Parel for the launch of an exciting new cocktail bar called CIRQA. In some ways, the bar itself is a reflection of the city’s multifaceted charm.

The first cocktail of the evening was Sakura’s Punch, a wonderful concoction of Tanqueray gin, Campari, and Grapefruit genmaicha shrub, topped with carbonated water. The cocktail is dry and citrusy, with next to zero discernible sweetness. Sakura is the Japanese word commonly used to refer to the world-famous cherry blossoms. However, many of us associate it with Sakura Haruno, the character from the Naruto manga and anime series. Gaurav Suvarna, our mixologist for the evening, also points out the association. Such hints of playfulness within the otherwise highly sophisticated menu make us all the more curious to try more of CIRQA’s creations.

CIRQA has a few savoury cocktails on offer, whose quirky names and unconventional ingredients are sure to catch your attention. For instance, their ‘Breaking Bread‘ contains toasted bread, black garlic-washed vodka, tomato water and clarified lime. But we have a soft spot for puns and the one we decided to go for is ‘Shut The Duck Up.’ It’s made with duck fat-washed bourbon, orange and black pepper Cinzano Rosso reduction, lavender tincture and citric solution. It’s an experience in itself – with each element managing to make its presence known. Complex yet satisfying, this drink was a delightful discovery we’d return for.

For those feeling less experimental, CIRQA also has classic cocktails with their signature twist. The one we especially loved was the Bombay Cosmopolis (hibiscus and cardamom-infused Grey Goose, with cranberry and lime, served with a Luxardo Maraschino cherry). The flavours seem familiar enough, yet the unique hint of the cardamom manages to take you by surprise. We also liked the Clear Colada, with plantation rum, caramelised pineapple, lime and clarified coconut milk. As we sipped, we were transported to the tropics for a few moments – far removed from the hustle and bustle just a few metres away from us, outside this cosy haven.

The food menu features a selection of bar bites, small plates and large plates. Indian, Asian and Continental ingredients are expertly transformed into elegant treats that match the complexity of the drinks. One may term it “fusion,” but that label doesn’t seem to do justice to such carefully curated dishes. The Sweet Roots with Magaj Crema is a must-try. It consists of beetroot and carrot mixed with a plum dressing and topped with crispy strands of potato salli. This is neither a chaat nor a salad, but a combination of the best parts of the two. Among the non-veg bites, don’t miss the crumb-fried Millet and Duck Croquettes, which are crisp and flavourful.

We also recommend the Prawn Sesame Bites – by far, the most ‘conventional’ item on the menu. We admit we were left craving something simpler amid all these rich treats, and these shrimp appetisers were the perfect solution. Indulging in the scrumptious Pumpkin Rillette with white onion soubise, seed granola and lavash, was a memorable part of our evening. Warm and nutty, this small plate comes with different layers of softness and crunch. Among the desserts, the Peanut Butter Sundae is sure to become a crowd favourite. The flavour combination is comforting and you may find yourself easily losing yourself in its yumminess after a long day.

While the culinary creations of the bar are markedly contemporary, CIRQA’s decor exudes old-world charm. The bar has two storeys, with the upper one designed to take you back to the good old days of vintage bars – more specifically, to 1960. So prepare to be swept away – in more ways than one!

CIRQA is helmed by brothers Pankaj Gupta and Avinash Gupta (the duo who are also behind Taftoon, Oye Kake, and Cafe Haqq Se), while entrepreneur Adele de Fontbrune serves as the Co-Founder and F&B Director. The bar programme is led by Louness Ducos and Agnieszka Rozenska, co-founders of Stories and Spirits, distinguished mixologists from France and Poland who are now based in Goa.

Chennais Best Cocktail Bars And Venues You Must Visit

In July this year ITC Grand Chola, one of Chennai’s premier luxury hotels unveiled Cholatails, a collection of cocktail recipes in a book that makes a strong connection to the city’s heritage. The Cholas were among India’s most formidable dynasties and their influence spread beyond the boundaries of modern India thanks to their maritime exploits. It’s the same for modern food and drink trends that boast a wider reach beyond traditional boundaries. Chennai’s cocktail scene has truly evolved this decade. It’s part of a wider global trend that has seen trends like sustainable cocktails, zero-proof cocktails and a beautiful medley of the classics and new-age drinks reshape bars and nightspots.

The city’s well-heeled, expats and business visitors are reshaping the cocktail landscape in the city as mixologists are discovering their A-game. Many of these mixologists are also tapping into the region’s strong culinary heritage and leaning on local ingredients to create unique beverage experiences. We take you through some of the city’s best spots for cocktails and zero-ABV beverages:

Tranquebar, ITC Grand Chola

This cleverly named bar shares its name with the erstwhile Danish trading post of Tranquebar (Tharangambdi) about 285 km south of Chennai. It’s one of two dedicated bars at the ITC Grand Chola that’s also home to Cheroot, a malt and cigar lounge. The hotel embarked on an ambitious program to create an array of cocktails across seven different dining venues in 2023 and created a bank of 280 beverages in the process. Our favourites are the Cholatails that the hotel likes to call beverages from Tamarind Town that include Puli (Tequila with tamarind and jaggery), the perfect thirst quencher for Chennai and Chukku Kaapi which is a clever spin on filter coffee with Cognac, dry ginger and green cardamom in the mix.

The Leather Bark, The Park Chennai

The Leather Bark remains one of the city’s most sophisticated techno lounge bars. The interiors pay homage to the region’s strong connection with leather products. The bar’s new cocktail menu seeks inspiration from the city’s cultural threads and also flavours of seasons. There’s Maami’s Martini which combines the city’s favourite brew (filter coffee) with Irish whiskey and coffee liqueur and Full Bloom, a delicate floral cocktail that captures the bouquet of the city’s famous Koyambedu flower market. The diverse beverage selection is complemented by bar bites that ingeniously blend traditional techniques and flavour with a contemporary touch.

Lady Connemara Bar and Lounge at Taj Connemara

Located at one of South India’s oldest luxury hotels (that dates back to 1854) and an integral part of Colonial Madras, this bar takes its name from Lady Connemara the wife of the then Governor of Madras. One of the bar’s signature cocktails – Madras no: 1, pays tribute to the city’s first licensed bar that first opened as ‘The Cocktail Bar’ suggesting that the city’s love for iced cocktails is not entirely a modern trend. Regulars also recommend 1891 which is crafted in memory of Lady Connemara who spent a year at the hotel.

Pandan Club

India’s first Peranakan cuisine restaurant and bar, Pandan Club has won awards for its cocktail program. Pandan Club embarked on a unique journey – ‘Shortest Route’, a cocktail book that makes the connection between the high-energy vibe of Singapore’s streets and Chennai’s rich culture. These cocktails are not just great for the ‘gram’ but also feature delicious twists. One of our picks is Serangoon Smith which recreates the buzz of Serangoon Road in Singapore with notes like Lemongrass & Gula Melaka.

Sundays Chennai

It might be positioned as ‘The Everyday Getaway’ but there’s a distinct Sunday afternoon vibe about one of Chennai’s most popular cocktail bars. That’s one reason why this casual bar located in the heart of one of Chennai’s quintessential residential pockets draws many diners during the day. It’s the perfect getaway on a Thursday or Friday afternoon when you’re already craving for the weekend. Sundays offers a wide array of cocktails and a mix of Indian and international plates.

One of Chennai’s newest hotspots, Noci Adante is conveniently located in one of the city’s popular retail and entertainment destinations – Express Avenue (EA) Mall. This nightspot is designed to morph from a fine dining space to a party zone as the night progresses. Noci is Japanese for way of life while Adante (in Italian) refers to playing an instrument slowly. The menu is a mish-mash of international plates while the cocktail program is quite bold with a blend of local flavours and international influences.
