  • Toscano Has Arrived In Delhi And Its A Must-Visit For Italian Food Lovers

Toscano Has Arrived In Delhi And Its A Must-Visit For Italian Food Lovers

Delhi’s food scene never ceases to amaze. From authentic Japanese ramen bowls to soulful Moroccan tagines, the city is a melting pot of global cuisines, constantly pushing culinary boundaries. Amid this vibrant landscape, the newly opened Toscano at Select City Walk promises a taste of Italy like no other. I recently dined there, and let me just say – I can’t wait to return. With a menu crafted to transport you to a sunlit Italian countryside, every dish was a delightful testament to finesse and flavour.

We began our culinary journey with Arancini e Mozzarella Fritta, golden fried cheesy Italian rice balls made with Arborio rice. The crumb-fried fresh mozzarella inside oozed indulgence with every bite, perfectly complemented by the crunchy exterior. Served with a medley of carrots, zucchini, broccoli, haricot verts, and a tangy arrabbiata sauce, this dish set a high bar for what was to follow.

Next came the Pesto Chicken Bruschetta – a flavorful balance of textures. The herb oil-rubbed grilled bread provided a sturdy base for the succulent roasted bell peppers and tender chicken, while the red pepper coulis added a zingy freshness. Paired with mixed greens, it was the kind of dish that stays with you long after the last bite.

For salads, we tried the Insalata di Cesare and Insalata di Pollo e Funghi. The Caesar salad was a fresh, vibrant mix of young romaine leaves, crunchy pesto croutons, and aged Parmesan shavings, brought together with a creamy house dressing and a sprinkling of toasted pumpkin seeds. The chicken and mushroom salad, on the other hand, was a symphony of flavours-pulled roast chicken, roasted mushrooms, apple slices, carrots, a soft-boiled egg, and gouda cheese drizzled with sweet balsamic dressing. Every forkful was a medley of textures and tastes.

Feeling indulgent, we moved on to Pane all’aglio Ripieno, Toscano’s filled garlic bread. Stuffed with Harissa chicken, roasted bell peppers, garlic, ricotta, and mozzarella cheese, this dish was both hearty and delightful. The warmth of the harissa paired beautifully with the creamy cheeses.

Craving some pizza, we opted for the Vegetarian Fungi e Cipolla – a white pizza with no marinara sauce. Topped with mixed mushrooms, salted ricotta, balsamic-glazed onions, romaine greens, goat cheese crumble, and a drizzle of truffle oil, it was earthy and rich in every bite. We also tried their signature Toscano Pizza, a vibrant offering of pesto chicken, bell peppers, onions, olives, and boiled egg, all on a perfectly hand-stretched sourdough base.

For pasta, we went classic with the Spaghetti Carbonara, a decadent blend of bacon, egg yolk, cream, Parmesan, and crushed pepper. Every forkful of the creamy, silky pasta was deeply satisfying.

The meal ended on a sweet note with Classic Tiramisu and Dutch Truffle Popcorn Cake. While the tiramisu offered the timeless combination of coffee-soaked bread and mascarpone cream, the popcorn cake stood out as a playful treat. Topped with caramelized popcorn, drizzled in caramel chocolate sauce, and paired with vanilla ice cream, it was the perfect balance of sweet and crunchy.

All in all, Toscano’s impeccable flavours and elegant ambience make it a must-visit for Italian food lovers. The staff was friendly and cooperative, which amped up our experience. At the time, the restaurant had yet to get a liquor license which is why I wasn’t able to explore their cocktail menu. However, if you’re in the mood for wood-fired pizzas, comforting bowls of pasta, or indulgent desserts, this restaurant has something to please every palate.

CAYA: A Fusion Of Good Culinary Experience And Vibrant Entertainment In South Delhi

Looking for a restaurant that has great food and even a better bar? Try the newly-opened CAYA. Since its launch in November 2023, CAYA has swiftly positioned itself as one of South Delhi’s premier hotspots for both great dining and lively entertainment. Situated in the bustling lanes of South Extension 2, this unique venue offers much more than just a meal – it is a full-sensory experience that effortlessly blends global cuisine with an exciting array of events.

Upon entering CAYA, I was immediately struck by the spacious, thoughtfully designed interiors. The venue spans two levels: the upper level features a sleek bar area for those seeking a more relaxed vibe, while the lower level is closer to the stage and offers a front-row view for performances, The seating options are varied, from conventional table and chair setups to intimate lounge areas, ensuring there is something for everyone. The decor is a tasteful fusion of contemporary and traditional elements, creating a stylish and welcoming atmosphere.

Coming to the food, their menu is a mix of Continental, European, Asian, Modern Indian, and Mediterranean flavours. I loved almost everything on the menu. My favourite was Red Rooster – peri peri chicken pizza – and it was perfect. I am done with almost the same pizzas everywhere – this was something unique, with a soft base and full of flavourful toppings and lots of cherry tomatoes.  Both Tangra Chilli Chicken and Amritsari Paneer Tikka whet the tikka craving of vegetarians and non-vegetarians. The tikkas were succulent, smoky and oh-so tasty.

No dining experience at CAYA would be complete without exploring their cocktail menu. They have a large bar with a variety of spirits and some really tempting cocktails. If you like gin, don’t miss their ‘Kaya Hill’ cocktail concocted with Bombay Sapphire. And if you are a vodka person, my recommendation is ‘Coco Berry’ – a delightful drink flavoured with passion fruit, vanilla and fresh berries.

What truly sets CAYA apart is its seamless integration of food and entertainment. The venue regularly hosts stand-up comedy nights, soothing Sufi performances, and high-energy DJ sessions, ensuring there is never a dull moment.

You can safely call CAYA a cultural hub that has redefined the modern dining and entertainment scene in Delhi. With its diverse menu, impeccable service, and dynamic events, it’s the perfect place to indulge in a gourmet meal, unwind with friends, or revel in the city’s electrifying nightlife.

  • Delhi Air Got You Stressed? 5 Foods That May Help Your Body Deal With Pollution

Delhi Air Got You Stressed? 5 Foods That May Help Your Body Deal With Pollution

We are often exposed to pollutants and toxins through air and water. Currently, poor air quality in several regions of India, especially Delhi, has raised health concerns. According to the World Health Organization, breathing in pollutants can lead to inflammation, oxidative stress, and immunosuppression throughout the body, impacting the lungs, heart, brain, and other organs. While preventive health measures, such as wearing protective masks and using air purifiers, can help, eating certain foods may also nourish and detoxify your body from within.

Here Are 5 Foods Known For Detoxifying Properties:

    1. Eggplants

Latest and Breaking News on NDTV

    Photo: iStock

Eggplants are usually purple but can also be found in white. They may vary in size, from large ones to smaller ‘baby eggplants.’ According to Healing Foods by DK Publishing, eggplants contain beneficial amounts of antioxidants, potassium, folate, magnesium, beta-carotene and fibre. Consuming eggplants may help detox your body. Some studies suggest that eggplant can aid in removing harmful chemical substances from the body. It also promotes regular bowel movements and maintains water balance.

    2. Garlic

Latest and Breaking News on NDTV

Garlic is known for adding a flavorful kick to savoury dishes. Along with enhancing taste, garlic offers several health benefits. It contains sulfhydryl compounds, which help remove toxic substances, such as heavy metals, from the body and protect against organ damage. A 2012 study involving employees at a car battery plant found that garlic reduced lead levels in their blood by 19%. It also reduced other signs of toxicity, such as headaches and high blood pressure.

    3. Mustard Greens

According to the Electronic Journal of Plant Breeding, peppery, crispy mustard greens are among the most nutritious leafy vegetables available during the winter season. Fresh mustard greens are an excellent source of antioxidants like flavonoids and also have anti-inflammatory properties. The antioxidant beta-carotene and vitamins C and K help neutralize toxins and remove them from the body.

    4. Tomatoes

Latest and Breaking News on NDTV

Tomatoes are widely used in Indian cooking and are a great ingredient for detoxing your body. They are a good source of glutathione, which helps the body remove fat-soluble toxins, as explained in Healing Foods by DK Publishing. Lycopene, found in tomatoes, boosts immunity and lowers cholesterol. Homemade tomato juice and tomato salsa are healthy and delicious ways to include nutritional tomatoes in your diet.

    5. Alfalfa Seeds

Alfalfa seeds are rich in nutrients and antioxidants, particularly chlorophyll, which helps remove toxins from the blood. Alfalfa seeds also have natural diuretic properties, which maintain water balance and help lower blood pressure. According to a 2020 study published in BioResearch Open Access, alfalfa seeds also support skin health. You can add these seeds to your diet by incorporating alfalfa sprouts into any meal.

Include these healthy food items in your daily diet. Along with a balanced diet, adequate sleep, and water intake, they can help detox your body and improve your health.

  • Fans Complain About Poor Food And Beverage Arrangements At Dil-Luminati Concert In Delhi

Fans Complain About Poor Food And Beverage Arrangements At Dil-Luminati Concert In Delhi

After all the wait and excitement, Diljit Dosanjh fans in Delhi attended the much-awaited Dil-Luminati concert on Saturday, October 26 and Sunday, October 27, 2024. Pictures and videos of the concert and happy fans were all over social media platforms. However, some fans also expressed their disappointment with the management of the concert arrangement, especially on Day 1. Among other things, one issue that several people raised was poor food and beverage arrangements at the event. An X (formerly Twitter) user posted a picture of a crowded food and drinks stall at the premises. “Terrible arrangements at #DiljitDosanjhconcert in Delhi,” the post read.

When someone asked the user to focus on just the show, she replied, “They confiscated our water bottles at the gate. You mean that paani bhi nahi le [You mean we cannot even get water?]. From 4 pm to 10 pm.”

“Attended Diljit’s concert, and while his performance was fire, the management was a complete fail,” another X user wrote, adding, “Pre-booze is a must because alcohol was sold out even before the show started. Food was okisshly available but that also involved a lot of struggle!”

A third X user wrote, “Overall, Diljit’s performance was great. He’s truly a vibe. But the concert experience was poorly organized and definitely not worth the price tag. The management could have been much, much better.”

Elaborating on the food and beverage “chaos”, the fan continued, “With only 2 counters for a massive crowd, it was Absolute chaos. First, we had to stand in line just to buy a card. Then, another line to get an order slip at the POS, and finally, yet another line to actually get the drink. To top it off, drinks were served in glasses instead of bottles or cans, causing even more delays.”

Also Read: Diljit Dosanjh Enjoys A Healthy Spread During “Sound Check” In Paris

According to the X user, beverages were unavailable after 9 pm. “After a while, a fight broke out between the management and the crowd, leading to the beverage counters being shut down. There were no drinks or even water available after 9 PM.”

Talking about not getting any refund for the leftover balance on the card, the user said, “If you added extra money to your card for food and drinks, there was no way to get a refund. Even worse, after the event ended, they only accepted cash and wouldn’t take the card. Felt like a total rip-off.”

A fan also shared a similar experience in a LinkedIn post.

“Chaos at food and drinks stalls – You should have arranged adequate facilities so people don’t have to stampede to get food and drinks. No separate queue for girls, how do you expect them to get anything in that mess,” the user wrote.

Also Read: 92-Year-Old Butlers Chocolate Cafe In Dublin Welcomed Diljit Dosanjh With A Latte Drink

Sharing that half of the things were out of stock at the beginning of the show, the fan added, “The cards were prepaid and non-refundable, so if you can’t purchase because of this you can’t get a refund. At the beginning of the show half of the things were out of stock, why sell if you don’t have it? The food stalls closed 30 minutes before the show ended. All representatives of Zomato ran away fearing backlash from the crowd. Drinking water was not available properly.”

Diljit Dosanjh will next perform a show in Jaipur on November 2, Hyderabad on November 15, Ahmedabad on November 17 and Lucknow on November 22, among others, before concluding in Guwahati on December 29.

  • Neemrana Fort-Palace Is Now My Favourite Destination For A Regal Retreat Near Delhi. My Experience Inside

Neemrana Fort-Palace Is Now My Favourite Destination For A Regal Retreat Near Delhi. My Experience Inside

Whenever I get a chance, I love to go for a quick getaway with my family during the weekends. Luckily, there are plenty of options near Delhi that offer both luxury and relaxation… but not all of them also offer a peek into the culture of our country. This time, I wanted to immerse myself in the history and heritage of India but without the hassle of long travel. Of course, Neemrana Fort-Palace was the ideal destination. Located in Rajasthan, just a couple of hours away, this 553-year-old medieval fort-palace offers a perfect blend of culture, heritage, and breathtaking scenery. It was an opportunity to dive deep into the Rajasthani culture without venturing all the way to Jaipur.

Our journey took a little over three hours due to road repairs, but the anticipation built up along the way was worth it. Upon arrival, I was immediately struck by the beauty of the fort. The serene atmosphere was a welcome escape from the city’s hustle and bustle. The rustic charm of the fort, from its brick walls to cobbled lanes, transported me to a bygone era, with even an ancient horse cart greeting us at the entrance. The beauty of the fort piqued my curiosity to learn about its history.

    The Story Of Neemrana Fort-Palace

Perched on the Aravalli hills, Neemrana Fort-Palace offers some of the most spectacular sunsets over the countryside. Originally built in 1464, the fort was abandoned in 1947 when Raja Rajinder Singh moved down to Vijay Bagh as its facade crumbled. For four decades, the fort lay in ruins, until it was acquired for restoration in 1986. Today, this splendid ruin has been transformed into an exquisite resort, officially opened in 1991, with 81 rooms and suites spread over 14 levels cut into the hill.

    Exploring Neemrana Fort-Palace

As I stepped into this heritage property, I was transported back to a time of royalty. The authentic restoration of the fort’s structures captures the essence of medieval India. Neemrana Fort-Palace is a maze of interconnected courtyards, gardens, and chambers. Exploring the property is an adventure in itself, as you navigate through narrow passageways and discover hidden corners. However, it does require some physical fitness to climb up and down a series of rugged steps and ramps.

It may sound tiresome but believe me it was actually the fun part. As I huffed and puffed to my room I could not help but admire the visual treats on the way. The view of the Aravali hills, the small pond with floating lotus leaves, the stonework on the walls – it was all magical. Our room in the Hawa Mahal wing just added to the charm. It was spacious and the balcony looked over the swimming pool with the Aravalli mountain range in the backdrop – perfect!

Now, The Most Awaited Part Of The Stay – Food!

    Restaurants In Neemrana Fort-Palace:

After settling in, the first thing we wanted to do was eat! We reached past lunchtime but thankfully the staff informed us about pizzas being served in one of the restaurants called Katoria, which felt almost mystical with a carved mountain rock right inside the restaurant. It seemed like I was in a different world. The wood-fired chicken pizza was a delightful surprise, with a perfectly thin and crispy crust, topped with well-seasoned vegetables and meat. As we went back to our room, we took a small detour to explore the place. We sighted peacocks, monkeys, parrots and even frogs jumping around in joy. A was a great walk back to the room.

After some rest, it was high-tea time at Jahangir Mahal. A selection of chaats and snacks like corn chaat and kachori was enough to keep the hunger pangs at bay till dinner. Tea cakes and cookies were great accompaniments to my coffee. Right below the Jalgiri Mahal was the swimming pool overlooking the Aravalli. I could not wait to have some pool time with my child. The water was clean and the attendants were helpful and ready with anything we needed.

An Entertaining Evening At Neemrana Fort-Palace
Now there was still some time left for dinner and thankfully, there is never a dull moment at Neemrana. A cultural dance program was organized at the amphitheater which we thoroughly enjoyed. The dancing and storytelling were entertaining as well as informative.

Latest and Breaking News on NDTV

Then it was time for dinner at the Kanak Mahal.
As someone who believes that the best way to explore a new place is through its food, I was in culinary heaven. The extravagant multi-cuisine buffet including Rajasthani food was impressive. I learnt that the property focuses on local grains and seasonal ingredients and incorporated millets into most of their meals. The spread screamed deliciousness and healthfulness. On offer were pear barley pumpkin soup, bajre and murgh ke kees, Millets sprouts salad, quinoa salad, red rice tehri, moringa paneer lababdar, ker sngri khatte saag with bajra pearls and more such enticing dishes. Paneer tikka and alsi kebab, dal neemrana, dal baati churma, Rajasthani gate ki sabzi, laal maas and more were on offer. Every dish tasted divine. Imagine even the baati of dal baati churm platter was made with red millet.

Then there was a separate snack station in the courtyard – with methi amaranth tacos, ragi chilla, millet falafel and more. If that wasn’t impressive enough, I was wowed to see even the desserts were made of millets. Ragi and jiggery ladoo, mix millet granola bar, local grain malai ghewar – let me indulge guilt-free!
Not in the mood to eat Indian food? There are noodles, sauteed vegetables and pasta – a good option to please the kids. I slept with a happy and full tummy.

Latest and Breaking News on NDTV

The breakfast next morning was again a delight. From continental to south Indian to north Indian and Rajasthani cuisines – there were options galore. If you want to eat more of the delicious Neemrana food, it’s best to have lunch there before hitting the road. Lamb Galoush, Murgh Shekhwani, junglee maas, Thai curry, fried rice and loads of Rajasthani food options made for a hearty lunch. The desserts were exciting with fruit custard, mango mousse, chocolate pudding and more.

I will admit that I did not feel like leaving the place. Its beauty and tranquillity along with the immersive experience of exploring its nooks and crannies – it felt like living among the royals. And the lingering flavours of the lip-smacking food made it more difficult to bid adieu. I left with a promise to return, perhaps for a longer stay next time. With its vast property, there’s simply too much to explore in just one day. Signing off now with nostalgic memories of the splendid staycation I had at Neemrana Fort-Palace.

Delhi High Court Flags Expired Products Being Repackaged: “This Cannot Be A Business”

The Delhi High Court on Tuesday expressed concerns over the sale of expired food products that are reintroduced in the markets after repackaging and re-branding with new expiry dates and said that people cannot be made to consume “adulterated” food items. The high court said no one can be allowed to sell expired items and this cannot be a business. “People cannot be having adulterated food in Delhi. Give us suggestions on how this can be tackled,” a bench of Chief Justice Manmohan and Justice Tushar Rao Gedela said. The bench was hearing a public interest litigation which was initiated on its own after several such instances of expired products being repackaged with new expiry dates came to light.

Advocate Shwetasree Mazumdar, who was assisting the court as amicus curiae, submitted her report and suggested that a QR code could be generated by the manufacturers for all packed food items which would help in tracking the original expiry dates of the products. She said legislation dealing with the issue is already in place but the penalties prescribed for violations are not deterrent and they be revisited to ensure greater deterrence.

“Food business operators be directed to mark all food products with a unique alphanumeric code or a QR code that is identifiable by an FSSAI representative by cross-reference to a centralised database, which will reveal the batch number and expiry date of a product immediately and on site, to obviate testing and sampling to ascertain whether expiry dates and other information on the label has been tampered with,” the amicus submitted.

She added that this would be similar to the mandatory QR code requirement imposed by the Union Health Ministry for the tracking and tracing of certain identified pharmaceutical products and would assist in taking expeditious action against violators. The court asked the authorities to submit suggestions on how they were planning to ramp up the sample collection and testing. The bench directed the Delhi Police to file a fresh status report in the matter and asked certain alleged counterfeiters, who were found to be selling expired chocolates by re-packaging the same, to be personally present in the court on the next hearing.

“You cannot be selling expired food items. This cannot be a business. Ask your clients to remain personally present in court next time,” the bench told the counsel for the alleged counterfeiters. The court had earlier issued notice to the central government, Delhi government, Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) and the Delhi Police, seeking their response on the matter.

The suo motu PIL was initiated after Justice Prathiba M Singh referred the matter to the division bench to be taken up on the judicial side. Justice Singh was hearing a civil suit filed by the Hershey Company, a well-known chocolate manufacturer, seeking an injunction before the Diwali period against certain rank counterfeiters from selling expired chocolates by re-packaging the same. She found that the counterfeiters had knowledge of and access to Hershey’s mark and packaging and had blatantly copied them misrepresenting their expired and counterfeit chocolates as the complainant’s products.

The single judge, prima facie, had concluded that the suit revealed an extraordinary situation involving public health, particularly relating to food products. The division bench, in its January order, had said, “From the order dated December 19, 2023, passed by the single judge, it is apparent that there is a coordinated and systematic mechanism in place by which the expired products are being re-packaged/ re-branded with new expiry dates and are being introduced into the markets.”

Delhi Customer Reports Cockroach In Coffee From LOpera, Bakery Responds

Food safety is of utmost importance but it can be difficult to be sure of food hygiene when purchasing meals and drinks from outside. In a recent Reddit post, a customer reported that they found a cockroach floating on the surface of their cold coffee purchased from L’Opera, Khan Market, Delhi. Shared by Redditor @WaltzSimple6037, the user posted a picture of the iced latte and you can see ice cubes floating on top, along with the reported cockroach. In the other picture, the customer posted a picture of the bill, showing proof of purchase.

The post read, “I visited Lopera today in Khan Market and ordered an iced latte to go. When I opened the drink, I thought I saw a coffee bean floating around, but when I flipped it over, it was a freaking cockroach.”

The customer reported that the staff was “nonchalant” with “no real concern at all”. They added, “I’m seriously questioning how clean this place is now. What made it worse was how the staff handled it-they were so nonchalant and just kept saying sorry like robots, no real concern at all. If hygiene is this bad at such a well-known cafe, I can’t even imagine what it’s like at other places in India. Anyone else had similar issues here or at other cafes? This was such a letdown.”

Responding to the incident, L’Opera Management told NDTV, “In the afternoon of Friday, October 4th two drinks were served at one of L’Opera’s outlets in Delhi to two customers as take-aways. Some ten minutes later, one of the customers returned to the outlet complaining about the presence of an insect in one of the takeaway drinks.”

“Notwithstanding the fact that the product had not been under L’Opera’s control for a significant duration, the staff immediately apologised, refunded the purchase price and offered to replace the drink. The customer preferred to accept the refund and declined the offer. In subsequent exchanges with the customer which involved her family and friends, the more senior staff of L’Opera renewed the apology. Whatever the exact circumstances of this case may have been, a L’Opera customer has been very regretfully unsatisfied, something we profoundly regret,” L’Opera said.
