    If you are from Delhi, you’d know that its charm has been encapsulated in everything – from food to monuments. The city is brimming with fabulous options for drinks and dining, catering to every mood and occasion. And now, a new cocktail menu has come to the city to capture its essence. Cirrus 9 at The Oberoi, in collaboration with the renowned Italian mixologist Giancarlo Mancino, has release its Signature Skyline Cocktail menu, to celebrate the city’s landmarks and vibrant culture through artisanal drinks.

    What chefs are to kitchens is what mixologists are to bars. While striking a beautiful balance between delicious flavours and strong spirits is an art, Mancino proved why he is considered a maestro. Each cocktail on the menu is a love letter to Delhi, beautifully blending history, art and innovative mixology.
    We began our cocktail journey with a fantastic cocktail called Heritage Greens, which is an ode to Sunder Nursery. With its tropical, complex and zesty flavours, it was a refreshing view of Delhi’s lush heritage and iconic gardens.

    Next up, we savoured Haat Haven, inspired by the vibrant and eclectic spirit of Dilli Haat. It was sweet, nutty and zesty – the perfect cocktail to represent Dilli Haat’s playfulness and hustling bustling atmosphere. To capture the essence of Delhi’s famous Purana Qila, we indulged in The Qila Legacy which offered earthy, floral and tingling notes. This cocktail is the perfect tribute to the monument’s rich history and timeless elegance. 

    If you love the grandeur of Bharat Mandapam, then The Mandapam Marvel would have been a delight for your taste buds. With its herbaceous, aromatic and incredibly refreshing ingredients, the Mandapam Marvel left us intrigued with every sip.

    The timeless sophistication of Lutyens’ Delhi was captured by their offering – Lutyens’ Elegance. It has delicate, sweet-savoury and bitter notes that delivered a perfect blend of modernity and old charm.
    As we progressed with our charming cocktails, the next on the list was the Connaught Classic – a fruity, vibrant, and herbaceous cocktail that captures the charm on Delhi’s Connaught Place.  

    Not only it, the menu also made sure the golf enthusiasts were entertained. The 18th Hole presented to us has bittersweet, fruity richness. While Altitude 124 offered smooth tropical and citrusy notes, a homage to Cirrus 9’s height.

    We concluded our night with Astral Harmony. While it may seem like a sweet cocktail, it actually has a peppery, smoky, and acidic profile that is synonymous with Jantar Mantar’s harmony and grandeur. 
    All in all, the experience was fantastic. All the cocktails – which were paired with numerous finger foods and cheese platters – were not just about the spirits but an immersive experience into the soul of Delhi!

A cultural staple in the national capital, Chole Bhature is served at countless eateries across the city, each offering its own unique twist on this irresistible combination of spiced chickpeas and deep-fried bread. One iconic spot that has been serving this mouthwatering dish for over six decades is Radhe Shyam Subhas Kumar Chole Bhature in Paharganj. A video recently went viral, posted by a food vlogger, showing the fascinating process behind the preparation of this delicious meal at the 60-year-old establishment. The shop, famous for its signature Chole Bhature, has earned the admiration of countless customers, and the video offers a glimpse into the steps that make the dish so special. The price? A plate of Chole Bhature with two fluffy bhatures costs just Rs 90 – available from morning to night.

    The video begins by showing a large utensil filled with boiled chickpeas. A worker, using his bare foot to hold down the edge of the container, carefully strains the excess water, pouring it into a separate container. Once the water is drained, the chickpeas are marinated with a secret mix of spices and fried in oil, transforming them into the perfect chole. 

    In another part of the kitchen, a worker is seen mixing dough in a massive container. The dough is so abundant that it stocks up to his elbows as he kneads it with his bare hands. The dough is then divided into small balls and lined up neatly on trays. The next step sees these dough balls rolled out and deep-fried to perfection, creating soft, pillowy bhatures that are golden brown on the outside and fluffy on the inside.

    Finally, the dish is served with a side of achaar (pickle). “Most Famous Chole Bhature of Delhi,” the caption of the video read.

The antique furniture, vintage trinkets, and retro Bollywood tunes that fill the air set the stage for an unforgettable culinary journey. It’s not just a place to eat; it’s a place to explore, wander through, and soak in the rich tapestry of India’s history and creativity.

    We started with a few chaats that set the tone for the meal – bold, tangy, and full of textures. The Purani Dilli Ki Papri Chaat was a perfect burst of nostalgia, with semolina and flour chips balanced by the coolness of yogurt and the zing of tamarind. Equally intriguing was the Dahi Batata Puri, a crisp sphere filled with a medley of potato, yogurt, and mint chutney, topped with sev. For something a little different, the Palak Patta Chaat brought crispy spinach to the table, complemented by a sweet and savoury medley of chutneys.

The Tandoori Bharwan Khumb (stuffed mushrooms) and Tandoori Malai Phool were also crowd-pleasers, full of rich, creamy goodness.
    Moving to the mains, the Sharabi Kababi Tikka Masala was a standout: tender chicken tikka cooked in a rich tomato and onion gravy finished off with a shot of brandy for that extra punch. With 15 years of culinary expertise from the renowned House of Fio backing it, Kamei promises an exceptional dining experience.

    Upon entering Kamei, I was immediately struck by the lively atmosphere and chic decor. Even though the restaurant opened only a couple of months back, it was nearly full, the energetic music blending seamlessly with the buzz from the bar area. It felt like the perfect spot for a weekend night out.

    As someone who enjoys cocktails, I couldn’t resist exploring their innovative drink menu. I opted for the Palo-Mei, a tequila-based concoction made with 1800 Silver tequila and infused with Bird’s Eye chilli. This cocktail was a delightful balance; the heat of the chilli was beautifully offset by the sweetness of strawberry and grapefruit, creating a refreshing yet complex drink. I also tried the Mango Tai, another tequila delight. Don’t let its name fool you-it wasn’t overly sweet. Instead, it offered a subtle mango flavour combined with the invigorating notes of basil and citrus.

    The menu at Kamei is a fascinating blend of traditional and modern dishes, showcasing the diverse flavours of East Asia, with influences from China, Japan, Thailand, and beyond. The “Smalls to Share” section features an array of signature cold plates, while the “Larges to Share” includes classic curries and wok dishes that can be paired with Kamei Fried Rice or Yaki Udon for a complete meal.

I also had to try the Prawn Tempura, a dish I can’t resist at any Asian restaurant. Kamei did not disappoint; the tempura was perfectly balanced, with a delightful contrast between soft and crunchy textures.

    Another must-try for avocado lovers is the Yuzu Avocado. This dish features grilled avocado paired with a zesty wasabi sauce and a creamy yuzu emulsion. The crispy rice cake added a perfect crunch, making it a heavenly experience.

    While savouring the array of delightful dishes and cocktails, I was surprised with a dessert that elevated my mood to new heights. The Honeycomb, a Malaysian sponge cake drizzled with whisky caramel sauce and served with vanilla gelato, was simply divine-a true match made in heaven.

Next up was the Zucchini Boat, which was nothing short of a revelation. The cheesy stuffing was decadently rich and packed with flavour.

    As I contemplated my next choice, I spotted a server delivering an intriguing dish that instantly piqued my interest. It turned out to be the Falafel Platter, complete with an array of dips and a balloon pita – light as air and puffed up like a balloon.     Despite being quite full, I couldn’t resist indulging in dessert. Loca’s dessert offerings continued to impress. The Tiramisu was impeccably balanced – not too bitter, not too sweet. The Torta Royale, a mascarpone baked cake, was simply divine and left me longing for more.

    As I left Loca, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of satisfaction and contentment. Loca has quickly become a favourite of mine, and I am already looking forward to my next visit.
