    His subsequent post revealed that he had picked and packed an order, writing, “Going to pick and pack an order, let’s see how much time it takes me.” Following that, he shared another post saying, “Done. It took me 2 minutes and 57 seconds to pick and pack. Too slow. The average picking time at this store is 1 minute and 46 seconds (sorry for the delay and happy new year to whoever’s order this was).” Dhindsa also shared an update on his next Blinkit delivery, noting, “Just picked an order which has a mini air hockey table and a couple of other items! Will be delivering this one as well.”

    Additionally, he shared what items were most ordered on New Year’s Eve. In the post, he mentioned: 1,22,356 packs of condoms, 45,531 bottles of mineral water, 22,322 PartySmart, and 2,434 Eno… all en route now! Getting ready for the after-party?

    In addition to taking on the role of a Blinkit delivery agent, Albinder Dhindsa announced the launch of a new fleet of electric vehicles designed for handling large orders, particularly for electronics and party supplies.     The couple concluded that it might be difficult for the delivery agent to afford “expensive” vegetables. The Redditor said, “After he left taking the onion, me and my wife were discussing if he genuinely needed to eat it or going to do tantra mantra….my wife said maybe onion is so expensive here he might be asking for onion from everywhere he delivers so he has enough to make food using it.”

    The confused Redditor then asked, “Did anyone else experience this? Could anyone tell why he asked for this?”

    Amazon workers are striking at multiple delivery hubs. Here’s what you should know

    Amazon workers affiliated with the Teamsters union launched a strike at seven of the company’s delivery hubs less than a week before Christmas.

    The Teamsters said the workers, who voted to authorize strikes in recent days, joined picket lines on Thursday after Amazon ignored a Sunday deadline the union had set for contract negotiations.

    The company says it doesn’t expect the strike to impact holiday shipments.

    Amazon has a couple hundred employees at each delivery station. The Teamsters mainly have focused on organizing delivery drivers, who work for contractors that handle package deliveries for the company. But Amazon has rebuffed demands to come to the negotiating table since it doesn’t consider the drivers to be its employees.

    The International Brotherhood of Teamsters also says the union represents some Amazon warehouse workers.

    Here’s what else you need to know:

    The strikes are taking place at three delivery hubs in Southern California, and one each in San Francisco, New York City, Atlanta, Georgia, and Skokie, Illinois, according to the union’s announcement.

    The union hasn’t said how many workers are participating in the strike, nor how long it will go on. Vinnie Perrone, the president of a local Teamsters union in metro New York, said Thursday that the walkout would continue “as long as it takes.”

    The union, which claims to represent 10,000 Amazon workers at 10 facilities, said workers in more locations were prepared to join the fight.

    Employees at a company air hub in California have authorized a strike. So have workers at an Amazon warehouse in New York, which unionized with the nascent Amazon Labor Union in 2022 and has since affiliated with the Teamsters.

    The Teamsters says its local unions are also putting up picket lines at other Amazon warehouses. A company spokesperson said Thursday the strikers were “almost entirely outsiders, not Amazon employees or partners, and the suggestion otherwise is just another lie from the Teamsters.”

    The striking workers are fighting for higher wages, better benefits, and safer work conditions.

    The Teamsters have tried to get Amazon to come to the negotiating table since last year, when the labor organization first said it had unionized a group of delivery drivers in California who work for a contractor. Amazon — which denies it employs the workers — refused, leading the union to file unfair labor charges against the company at the National Labor Relations Board.

    In August, prosecutors at the federal labor agency classified Amazon as a “joint employer” of subcontracted drivers. In September, the company boosted hourly pay for the drivers amid the growing pressure.

    Amazon warehouse workers who voted to union in the New York City borough of Staten Island also have tried to get the company to engage in contract negotiations.

    The National Labor Relations Board certified the Amazon Labor Union election, but the company objected to the representation vote and refused to bargain. In the process, Amazon also filed a lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of the labor board, which it aaccused of tainting the vote.

    Some organizers involved with the unionization effort there have long believed Amazon would not come to the negotiating table unless workers went on strike.

    Amazon says it doesn’t expect the strike to impact its operations, but a walkout — especially one that lasts many days — could delay shipments in some metro areas.

    An Amazon spokesperson said Thursday that the company intentionally builds its sites close to where customers are, schedules shipping windows and works with other large carriers, such as UPS, to deliver products.

    “We believe in the strength of our network and plan for contingencies to minimize potential operational impact or costs,” the spokesperson said.

    The feature was launched at the second edition of the ‘Sustainability and Inclusivity: Role of the Platform Economy’ Conference, organized by PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI), Invest India, the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) and Zomato.     Amit Kumar, a physical education teacher in Bihar, is struggling to sustain his family despite holding a government job. Earning a meagre monthly salary of Rs 8,000, he spends his days teaching at Babu Pur Middle School in Bhagalpur district and his nights working as a food delivery rider for a private company to make ends meet. The 35-year-old teacher juggles two jobs, tirelessly working from 5 PM to midnight after school hours. Amit’s story underscores the challenges faced by government employees with inadequate salaries and the extreme measures they take to support their families.

    Speaking about his struggles, Amit told ANI, “After a long wait, I finally got a government job in 2022. My family was overjoyed. I had taken the exam in 2019, and the results came in February 2020. I scored 74 out of 100, and we were thrilled. My family thought our situation would improve. Earlier, I worked at a private school, but when COVID hit, I lost that job. After two and a half years, I got this government position, but the salary was fixed at just Rs 8,000, and I was labelled a part-time employee, meaning I wasn’t required to stay long hours at school. Initially, we worked full-time and encouraged students to participate in sports.”

    “The students showed interest and even won medals. But even after two and a half years, the government hasn’t increased our salary or conducted eligibility exams. Life has become difficult. Senior teachers here receive Rs 42,000 as salary, while we get only Rs 8,000,” he added.

    The challenges don’t end there. Amit revealed that he didn’t receive his salary for four months earlier this year, forcing him to seek alternative income sources. “After February, I didn’t receive my salary for four months. I had to borrow money from friends, and the debt kept piling up. On my wife’s suggestion, I searched online and found I could work as a food delivery rider. There was no time restriction, so I created an ID and started working. After school, from 5 PM to 1 AM, I deliver food.

    “With Rs 8,000 as my salary, I can’t even think about expanding my family. I wonder how I can provide for the next generation when I’m struggling to feed myself. I got married two and a half years ago when I got the job. I’m the eldest son and need to stay at home to care for my elderly mother, which is why I am compelled to take up this additional work,” Amit explained.

    Amid rising consumer complaints, food regulator FSSAI on Tuesday directed e-commerce players selling food items on their platforms to ensure a minimum shelf life of 30 per cent or 45 days before expiry, at the time of delivery to customers.

    According to an official statement, Food Safety & Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) convened a meeting with e-commerce Food Business operators (FBOs) to reinforce compliance requirements for e-commerce FBOs.

    “The (FSSAI) CEO asked the e-commerce FBOs to adopt practices to ensure minimum shelf life of 30 per cent or 45 days before expiry at the time of delivery to the consumer,” the statement said.

    Rao, who chaired the meeting, clarified that any product claims made on e-commerce platforms must align with the information provided on the product labels and in adherence to FSSAI’s Labelling and Display Regulations.

    He also cautioned the FBOs against making unsupported claims online.

    “This would prevent misleading information and protect consumers’ right to accurate product details,” the regulator said.

    Rao highlighted the pivotal role of online platforms in protecting consumer health and promoting transparency. He reiterated the mandate that no FBO can operate on any e-commerce platform without a valid FSSAI license or Registration, emphasizing the critical need for regulatory compliance.

    In a move to ensure safe food handling at every level, he instructed FBOs to implement proper training programs for delivery personnel, empowering them with essential food safety and hygiene protocols.

    Additionally, Rao emphasized the importance of delivering food items and non-food items separately to the consumers to avoid potential contamination.

    In his concluding remarks, the CEO, FSSAI underscored the need for all e-commerce FBOs to adhere to food safety standards diligently.

    He emphasized that a transparent, compliant, and accountable e-commerce food sector is vital for protecting consumer health and fostering confidence in digital food marketplaces.

    The session was attended by over 200 participants joined both physically and virtually from across the country, underscoring the significant commitment to strengthening food safety standards within the e-commerce sector.

    Earlier this month, the FSSAI asked state authorities to increase surveillance in warehouses of e-commerce operators and issue standard operating procedures (SoPs) for delivery personnel to ensure safe food to consumers.

    In its 45th Central Advisory Committee (CAC) meeting on November 7, States and Union Territories were urged to ramp up surveillance at popular tourist destinations to ensure heightened safety standards in preparation for the peak tourist season from November through March.

    Rao had asked “Food Commissioners of various states to step up surveillance on warehouses and other facilities utilised by e-commerce platforms.” He also asked for SOPs to be issued for such warehouses, as well as delivery personnel of these platforms.

    “States/UTs were asked to increase surveillance samples and were also asked to deploy Food Safety on Wheels mobile vans for this purpose,” the regulator said.
