    “The Real Housewives of Orange County” season 18 reunion kicked off on Thursday, November 7, and ended with a fight between castmates Emily Simpson and Jenn Pedranti. After Emily spelled out the allegations she had read online that Jenn’s fiancé Ryan Boyajian was involved in the Shohei Ohtani gambling scandal, Jenn responded by saying, “Then I’m sorry, I’ve read that your in-laws fund your whole life.”

    Emily, an attorney, responded to the claims that her husband, Shane Simpson’s, parents fund their lifestyle in an Instagram story following the episode where she wrote, “If my in-laws ‘funded our lifestyle’ I’d be living WAY larger than I am right now. I’d be on private jets with Heather Dubrow. They do not.”

    Who Are Emily Simpson’s In-Laws

    Emily is married to Shane Simpson, an attorney (who RHOC fans saw finally pass the California bar exam in 2021 after mulitple attempts) from Utah who she met while they worked together at a real estate firm.

    Shane’s mother, Pary Simpson, has appeared on RHOC on the past. According to BravoTV.com, Pary is 100 percent Iranian, and he and his family are all practicing Mormons (though Emily is not). Not much is publicly known about Shane’s father.

    Despite Emily’s insistence that she does not live off of her in-laws funding, she shared a broader perspective on their financial relationship while appearing on “Watch What Happens Live” in November 2019 after one fan asked, “I’ve heard Shane’s parents bankroll your lifestyle, is that true?”

    “It’s no secret that Shane’s parents are very wealthy,” Emily responded. “So he has lots of investments that they’ve set up for him. I’ve never made that a secret.”

    Emily and Shane are still very close with his parents, as the family celebrated Shane’s oldest daughter Shelby’s wedding at his parent’s house in Orange County in August 2024. “[Shelby and her husband] were married in the LDS Temple in Newport in the morning followed by a family dinner and ring 💍 ceremony at my in-laws’ home 💐 🌺 🌷 So much fun, love, and memories shared in one beautiful day! My family from Ohio even came to the wedding,” Simpson wrote in an Instagram post filled with photos and videos from the happy day.

    Emily’s daughter Annabelle served as a junior bridesmaid, even giving a speech for her older sister, while her twin sons Luke and Keller acted as ring bearers.

    Shane Simpson Didn’t Want to Do RHOC

    Emily opened up about what it was like getting Shane on board to join RHOC in a July 2023 interview with Us Weekly.

    “Going into the show five years ago, Shane was not a fan of being on the show at all. And he made that very clear to me,” Emily told the outlet. “He was like, ‘I don’t wanna film, I don’t wanna be on a show. I don’t want you to be on a show.’ But he ultimately said, ‘But it’s up to you.’”

    While Shane felt the move to join RHOC could be “detrimental” to their marriage, Emily’s shared that it’s had the opposite effect. “Here we are five years later, and I feel like our relationship has done nothing but get better. And, so, I think he’s embraced that and realized that you can just have fun with it and be yourself,” she shared.

    It’s Official: Emily In Paris Will Be Back For A Fifth Season

    In the fourth season of Emily In Paris, our beloved fish-out-of-water, Emily Cooper (Lily Collins), broke format when she hopped a plane for Rome. Though she was ostensibly there to work and open a new office for Agence Grateau, she had no trouble fitting in some play and a little bit of romance, as well. 

    It was a refreshing shift from the usual Parisian drama we’ve become accustomed to (and fallen in love with) in Emily In Paris, and we certainly didn’t mind being introduced to her new love interest, Marcello (Eugenio Franceschini). But as the season came to an end, and we re-engaged our brain from its lovely little stupor, we immediately went hunting to see whether it has been renewed for a new season. 

    And blessedly, it has! Lily Collins announced on Monday that Emily In Paris will be returning to Netflix for a fifth season. In the days since, we’ve learned a little bit more about whether it will be based in Paris or not. 

    “We’re thrilled with the incredible response to this season of Emily in Paris and excited to return for a fifth to continue Emily’s adventures in Rome and Paris!” creator Darren Star tells Tudum (a publication run by Netflix). He elaborated, saying that Emily will definitely have a presence in Rome this season, but that doesn’t mean she won’t be returning to her life in Paris, as well. 

    Appearing on Good Morning America for the announcement, Collins explained her hopes for Emily in the new season. “Marcello is a whole other adventure that we want for Emily because we ultimately want Emily to be able to have a better work/life balance,” she says. “We want to have Emily be able to smile without condition. We want to see her beyond her vacay mode. And he comes at that perfect time.”

    It’s a relief but not a surprise that the show is returning for another season, given its success. According to Tudum, Emily in Paris ranked  #1 on the Netflix Global Top 10 when it premiered in August, and had 19.9 million views in its first four days. That was enough to secure the Top 10 in 93 countries, where it has remained ever since.

    Season four was a welcomed change from previous seasons, and honestly, it was one that we didn’t even realise we needed until the first episodes aired in August and we found ourselves rooting against Gabriel. In Marcello, we watched a charming romance unfold, and that’s one of the big reasons we tuned in. 

    “I feel like they have a real spark and a real connection and a real romantic connection,” agrees Collins. “A lot of that’s going to continue to play out next season.”

    A premiere date and cast list is still to be confirmed, but we’ll update you as we learn more about Emily In Paris season five.

How does she approach diet, fitness, and self-care? Here is everything you need to know about her lifestyle habits. 

    Emily makes sure to keep a lot of fruit and veggies on hand for healthy eating. “In order to plan healthy meals for the week, I like to stock up on organic produce and fresh herbs at local farmers’ markets once or twice a week and grab what’s in season. I like to switch it up and grab different green produce each time so I don’t get bored, plus farmers markets tend to have more interesting varieties of veggies to choose from!” she captioned a post. 

    Emily is a big fan of Pilates. “Hello from the reformer #pilates,” she captioned a post. “Pilates I love u,” she added in another. Why is pilates a good workout? According to the Mayo Clinic there are lots of benefits to the workout, as it “strengthens the body’s inner core while increasing its flexibility resulting in improved overall health.” It can also promote longer, leaner muscles, injury prevention, relief from stress and back pain, enhanced athletic performance, and heightened mind-body awareness.

    Emily is a surfer girl. “Beach bum,” she captioned a photo of herself, walking with her surfboard. According to the Australian government’s Better Health, surfing provides many health benefits including cardiovascular fitness from paddling, shoulder and back strength, which also strengthens from the paddling, and leg and core strength. “Once you’re standing up on the board, strong legs and a strong core will keep you up,” they say. 

    One way Emily winds down at the end of a day? Soaking in the hot tub. “Join me?” she captioned a photo. If you don’t have access to a hot tub, just take a bath. They have been linked to better sleep and even found helpful to minimize anxiety and depression. One recent study even found that they may even boast cardiovascular benefits.


    Emily enjoys hiking, as she does in her recent post. According to the National Parks Service, the physical benefits of hiking include:

    Emily In Paris Is The Brain Bleach Television I Need In 2024

    At the end of the day, when I settle on my couch with a glass of Malbec and a Caramilk Twirl, there is only one type of television I want to watch: brain bleach. I love watching shows that urge me to leave my brain at the door, delivering the sugary sweetness my battered mind needs after a day of, you know, living through 2024. 

    In short, I task the TV with cleansing my mind of every unpleasant and unsettling image I saw that day, and for a brief time, it works.

    It’s cackling at the TV when a Bachelorette tells off her one-time beau. Or quietly saying “so true” to myself when an agent on Selling Sunset laments their multi-million dollar-a-year commission rate. It’s being puzzled when Kendall Jenner misunderstands the basics of cutting a cucumber. But more than anything, it’s watching Lily Collins’ Emily Cooper canter around Paris with nary a thought in her gorgeous little head. 

    In my opinion, Emily In Paris has all the makings of a terrible TV show: repetitive storylines, a vapid cast of characters, outlandish outfits that make no sense, shameless and long-winded advertorials, and the inability for any character names (or storylines) to stick in my brain. 

    It is utterly un-memorable television, and that’s exactly what makes it so special. 

    The first half of the fourth season was released by Netflix on August 15, and as of September 12, part two is officially available to stream as well. (Don’t get me started on the split release schedule or why I believe they should just embrace week-to-week drops instead.) Following the part one release, social media was immediately awash with a similar sentiment about the show. 

    “Beyond excited my girl Emily in Paris is back,” Tweeted @popphits. “I’ve watched every episode and have not a single memory of last season, the names or any characters or anything else aside from the fact she has a job in Paris. It’s perfect TV. May it run for 1000 seasons.”

    The Internet is in agreement: Emily In Paris is silly and that’s why we love it. It’s been this way since the beginning. The first season was released on October 2, 2020, at a time when we were all at home with not much to do aside from bake focaccia and worry about the state of the world. In Emily’s overly earnest and extremely American characterisation, not to mention her confusing social media presence, we were all entranced. 

    Her Instagram posting and immediate virality was the first eyebrow-raiser (though, sadly, there has been little mention of Influencer Emily in season four). The outfits are the second.

    It’s a show that’s never taken itself too seriously, but the frenetic energy in much of the costuming isn’t achieved by chance. Every outfit comes courtesy of lead costume designer Patricia Field, who was behind the iconic looks in the original Sex and the City series and Devil Wears Prada film. At times, the outfits in Emily In Paris have been critiqued for being unrealistically extravagant for a junior marketing manager or being generally chaotic, but many have hypothesised that this chaos has been done to match the character’s own life.

    Emily is living in a foreign city and navigating a new dating pool and two cute suitors (Gabriel and Archie — two characters whose names I had to Google just now), working in a French office with high standards, and all while ducking and diving through endless hi-jinks. 

    Not every character has outrageous style though. With every bucket hat or froufrou gown Emily wears, Sylvie (played by Philippine Leroy Beaulieu) struts in wearing a chic pair of pumps and a pencil skirt. Camille’s (played by Camille Razat) wardrobe is one we’d love to settle into, with a classically French and slightly preppy vibe that speaks to my own tendency towards timeless styles that still make a statement about my personal style. 

    The good (and the bad) fashion in Emily in Paris is entrancing and gives us something to park our minds on after switching it off as the TV switches on. 

    Of course, the style isn’t the only thing that keeps me locked in — I’m also oddly passionate about the cyclical storylines that feel delightfully repetitive. I wouldn’t normally say that about a show, where the same missed connection-style tropes and will-they-won’t-they relationships carry on for seasons. 

    But with Emily and Gabriel (and Emily and Archie, and perhaps now Emily and her new Roman date), I find myself rooting for her. Not to be with him in the end (definitely not), but to find the guy who will see through her chaos and into her heart. To stick through all of her hair-brained marketing ploys to her well-meaning intentions.

    It’s earnest to say so, but in Emily, I see a people pleaser who allows her heart to guide her into scenarios that are impossible for any party to come out of unscathed. In Emily In Paris, I’ve learned that there is no limit to the number of times I can be entertained by a shower gaffe or overheard conversation. So, I’ll of course keep rotting on my couch for six hours at a time when a new batch of episodes drop, because that silly girl is simply delightful TV.

    The entire fourth season of Emily In Paris is now available to stream on Netflix.

    Home and Away stars Emily Weir and Tristan Gorey have made the bombshell admission they considered leaving the series following a recent shock death on the show.

    The pair play lovebirds Mackenzie and Levi on the series, and admitted they were affected by the recent character death of Felicity Newman, played by Jacqui Purvis. 

    ‘I don’t ever want Mackenzie to die. I want her to leave the Bay, so there’s always a place where I can come back to,’ Emily, 33, told Yahoo Lifestyle.

    The brunette bombshell added if her character had to die she would like it to be in a very dramatic and memorable manner.

    ‘If I had to, I’d love to be in a gunfight or something really left of field. Really do some martial arts, like a fight scene or something.’ 

    Tristan, 29, added he would like his honourable character to take a villainous turn shortly before his on-screen death.

    ‘I feel like Dr Levi should turn bad and then he’s chasing after Mackenzie and she’s running away, and then he just trips and falls and hits his head,’ he joked.

    Last month, fans were left devastated when fan-favourite character Felicity Newman, played by Jacqui Purvis, collapsed in shock scenes.

    In the clip which had fans in tears, Felicity suddenly fell to the ground when her vision went blurry during an emotional conversation with ex-husband Tane Parata. 

    The character was then rushed to hospital in critical condition, as promos confirmed she will die and actress Jacqui will move on from Summer Bay.

    ‘One of the best actresses Home and Away has ever had,’ one Instagram user said of Jacqui, 33, who has been on the Channel Seven soap drama for three years.

    The soap star recently reflected about her stint on the show with Yahoo Lifestyle: ‘I’ve had an incredible time on the show. Some of the best years of my life. 

    ‘However, I knew I wanted an international career, so, I had to make the decision to leave and take the plunge.

    ‘I owe so much to the show, [and] because of it, I feel confident and ready to take on the international stage.’

    Australian actress Jacqui is known for her roles in Home and Away, Neighbours, A Lion Returns, and Undertow, but wishes to make it big in Hollywood. 

    She intends to jet off to Hollywood soon in pursuit of worldwide fame, following in the footsteps of ex-soap stars Chris Hemsworth, Isla Fisher and Samara Weaving.
