  • Days After Emotional Davis Cup Retirement, Rafael Nadal Finds Quick Escape From Tennis by Venturing Into New Sport

Days After Emotional Davis Cup Retirement, Rafael Nadal Finds Quick Escape From Tennis by Venturing Into New Sport

Rafael Nadal means competing without a break. Just last week, the 22-time Grand Slam winner hanged up his tennis racket and said his final goodbye to an illustrious career. Facing Botic Van de Zandschulp of the Netherlands, in the QF round, Nadal seemed like a shadow of his past self as he couldn’t dominate the Dutchman. The latter managed to get the better of Rafa and took the match 6-4, 6-4 in straight sets. While many people were curious to know what would the King of Clay do after retirement, he’s made it pretty much clear now, thanks to an update coming from his hometown in Mallorca.

Rafael Nadal has taken to his passion for golf. The 38-year-old took to the golf course and participated in the FGB Hexagonal Q-Romia Circuit at Club de Golf Son Servera on Saturday. What’s more?

Well, he succeeded in finishing at the eighth position with a score of 76 strokes, four over par, as reported by Spanish website Ultima Hora. Nadal’s birdies on the par-5 ninth and sixteenth holes, and on the par-3 third hole, highlighted his round. At one stage, he was, in fact, on the first spot, but couldn’t maintain the lead. But earning eighth place, among close to 80 players, in the Handicap category, is still commendable to say the least, isn’t it?

While he and his team gave their best, the ultimate winner of the competition was the team of Terraza Balear Part of Gunni Trentino. On second position was Engel&Volkers Commercial, followed by God save The Par. Nadal’s The Rafael Nadal Academy took the fourth spot, while Ejusan Ecologic B rounded out the top five.

For those unaware, Nadal’s passion for golf is not new. The tennis icon, a keen golfer, has participated in the Balearic Mid-Amateur Golf Championship three times in the last four years. This year in February, Nadal outperformed the field, finishing three over par for a two-round total of 147 strokes. His seven-stroke victory over Jaime Nicolau Olmos secured him the men’s title.

In fact, he’s expressed his liking for the sport on numerous occasions in the past.

When Rafael Nadal revealed his brewing passion for golf

Back in 2012, speaking to Miami Herald, the 14-time Roland Garros champion had expressed his inner thoughts on golf. While unleashing his love for the sport, he said, “I love the game of golf in general,” he said. Continuing further, he added, “Golf is great, because you are always in beautiful places when you are playing, and the risk for injury, as you know, is very small.”

Moreover, his craze for the sport even attracted golf legend Tiger Woods, who became a fan of him! Back in 2019, during the R16 at the US Open, Woods was spotted watching Rafael Nadal. Later in that event, Nadal emerged victorious at the Flushing Meadows and lifted the trophy after defeating Daniil Medvedev in a five-set thriller. After winning the final, Rafa extended his gratitude towards Woods.

“It’s a huge honour to play in front of all of [New York fans] but to play in front of Tiger is a very special thing. I’ve always said that I don’t have idols, but if I did I would have to say that one idol is him. I always try to follow him, every single shot through the whole year,” he said. “He’s a big legend of sport, one of the greatest sportsmen of all time. I want to congratulate him for one of the most amazing comebacks of the sport ever when he won The Masters this year”, he concluded while praising Woods’ golf supremacy.

Now that the tennis chapter is over, it will be intriguing to see whether Nadal will take up golf as a permanent profession. Do you think he will ace in this role as well if he decides to go pro? Let us know in the comments below.

Truly spectacular rural escape ready to gift new owners with an enviable country lifestyle

    721 Avonside Road

Perfectly positioned with gorgeous views and loads of modern touches, this Avonside property is nothing short of immaculate. Photo: ALX Creative Media.

Move-in ready and built to suit anyone yearning for that ever-desirable rural lifestyle, 721 Avonside Road at Avonside hosts a beautiful country manor surrounded by 180 acres of native temperate forest and rolling grasslands.

This five-bedroom, two-bathroom home offers plenty of space to entertain, relax and explore, and takes every opportunity to showcase sprawling views across the nearby Dalgety plains.

Set in the quiet rural community of Avonside, about 20 minutes from Jindabyne, the property is bordered by large, natural lifestyle holdings and friendly locals who look after one another.

Sales agent Dani Kell says a “cosy yet grand” feel permeates the entire home.

“Cathedral ceilings, large windows and timber features lend themselves to bright, elegant spaces throughout the ground floor,” she says.

“The sunroom and living room are heated by their own cosy fireplaces and offer an intimate, relaxed atmosphere.”

Also on the ground floor is a large dining room that leads into a country-style kitchen.

“The kitchen is complete with little luxuries that include marble benchtops, a Thermalux wood fire oven, induction stove/oven and butler’s pantry,” Dani says.

“Just around the corner are two of the five bedrooms, both with built-in wardrobes. The bathroom they share is sleek and modern, with a free-standing bath, large vanity and contemporary fittings.”

Three more bedrooms await upstairs, the most impressive of which is the master suite, with its private balcony, oversized walk-in wardrobe, ensuite, and an extra room more than suitable for storage or a home office space.

These extra amenities continue outdoors in the form of a deluxe teenager’s retreat featuring its own fireplace, bathroom and climate control.

Number 721 is set up to host with ease thanks to a wine cellar, large entertaining deck, undercover alfresco and swim-spa looking over the valley. Low-maintenance landscaped gardens have already been established, fed by four water tanks with a total capacity of 80,000 litres.

Other outbuildings include a multi-purpose shed, machinery shed, greenhouse and dog run. Two fenced paddocks are ready to house hobby livestock or horses.

Large properties like this are a haven for native wildlife of all kinds. In the surrounding bush, you can expect to see kangaroos, wallabies, wombats, echidnas, various reptiles and vibrant birdlife. There are endless opportunities to hike and explore.

All in all, Dani says this property is not one to be missed.

“I could easily see a large family living here, or maybe a couple who loves to entertain regularly,” she says.

“It’s a beautiful home in an elegant style that isn’t seen as often these days, and for the right person, it will certainly be a cherished retreat from the everyday worries of life.”

Expressions of interest are currently being taken for 721 Avonside Road. For more information or to book an inspection, contact Dani Kell on 0425 873 587. Keeping an eye on the market? Be sure to check out all the latest listings on Zango.

  • I Swapped Wi-Fi For Waves: How My Digital Detox In Seychelles Became The Ultimate Foodie Escape

I Swapped Wi-Fi For Waves: How My Digital Detox In Seychelles Became The Ultimate Foodie Escape

Let’s face it. The internet is relentless. Between the constant barrage of emails, the never-ending scroll, and the pressure to curate the perfect online life, sometimes you just need to hit the eject button. That’s exactly what I did when I escaped for a digital detox to the Seychelles, a jewel-toned archipelago nestled in the Indian Ocean.

Latest and Breaking News on NDTV

The Seychelles isn’t your typical beach vacation. Sure, there are stretches of sand so white they practically glow under the relentless sun and turquoise waters that shimmer like liquid emeralds. But beyond the postcard perfection lies a sense of serenity – an almost tangible peace that washes over you like the warm waves lapping at the shore.

Latest and Breaking News on NDTV

My haven within this haven was the Waldorf Astoria Platte Island. Accessible only by a short plane ride, this private island resort is where luxury meets barefoot chic. Think thatched-roof villas nestled amongst lush greenery, private infinity pools overlooking the endless horizon, and a palpable sense of seclusion that allows you to truly disconnect and reconnect – with yourself and the breathtaking natural world.

But enough about the stunning scenery (although trust me, it deserves its own sonnet). Let’s delve into the heart of this paradise: the food and beverage scene at Waldorf Astoria Platte Island. Because let’s be honest, a digital detox is all well and good, but one can’t live on serenity alone (especially not a jaded food writer like myself).
Gone are the days of generic buffets and predictable resort fare. Platte Island boasts six distinct restaurants and bars, each with its own unique personality and culinary focus. It’s like having a Michelin-starred food court at your beck and call, minus the pretentiousness.
My mornings began at La Perle, a vibrant Mediterranean brasserie overlooking the turquoise expanse. Sunlight streamed through the open-air space as I savoured fresh-squeezed juices and perfectly cooked omelettes, the gentle clatter of cutlery providing the only soundtrack. This is the kind of breakfast that sets the tone for a day of blissful relaxation.

Noontime was a delightful dance between poolside indulgence and culinary exploration. Torti, with its light and airy pavilion, was my go-to for casual fare – think fresh sushi rolls and poke bowls brimming with vibrant colours that disappeared faster than you can say “hangry.” But for a taste of adventure, Moulin beckoned. It’s the resort’s signature restaurant, where the magic of “garden-to-table” truly comes alive. Here, Chef de Cuisine creates a daily five-course tasting menu that showcases the island’s bounty-like living art. Each dish was a revelation, a marriage of seasonal ingredients.

As the sun dipped below the horizon, casting the sky in a fiery palette of oranges and pinks, the resort came alive with a different kind of energy. I decided to start my evening with a pre-dinner cocktail at Lalin. This dream-like champagne bar, suspended between Heaven and Earth, is a sensory experience unlike any other. As the sun dipped below the horizon, casting the sky in a fiery palette of oranges and pinks, Lalin’s ethereal ambience and the gentle lapping of waves created the perfect setting for a truly unforgettable cocktail. I sipped on a glass of bubbly while taking in the breathtaking views, feeling transported to a world of pure enchantment.

Afterwards, I made my way to Mason Des Epices, the resort’s Creole-Latin fusion restaurant, a culinary adventure waiting to be unravelled. The air was thick with the tantalizing aroma of sizzling platters of jerk-marinated seafood, their spices dancing on the breeze. I couldn’t resist indulging in a fiery curry, its tangy flavours a delightful contrast to the creamy coconut milk. And let’s not forget the vibrant salads, bursting with tropical fruits and fresh herbs, a symphony of colours and textures that delighted my senses. The atmosphere was electric, with live music setting the mood and a contagious energy that kept the room buzzing. It was a feast for both the palate and the soul, a night I’ll never forget.

By the end of my stay, I wasn’t just disconnected from the digital world, I was truly rejuvenated. So, the next time you find yourself scrolling endlessly through your social media feed, remember: there’s a world of wonder waiting for you beyond the screen. And if you’re lucky enough to find yourself on a tropical island like Platte Island, don’t forget to indulge in the delicious food. Because after all, life is too short for boring meals.

Mila Kunis has opened up about the fears she has for her two children.

The actress, 41, who shares daughter Wyatt Isabelle, 10, and son Dimitri Portwood, seven, with actor Ashton Kutcher, 46, shared her parenting anxieties with Entertainment Tonight this week.

‘I worry about my children all the time,’ she admitted.

‘It’s humanly impossible for me to worry more. If that’s the case I will self-combust,’ she continued.

‘Ashton says that I account for the worst of everything at all times. Like, I account for the escape plan all the time.’

The pair, who starred alongside each other in the sitcom That ’70s Show, began dating in early 2012 after they met on the long-running show.

They were co-stars portraying Michael Kelso and Jackie Burkhart from 1998 to 2006.

Prior to their romance, Kutcher was married to Demi Moore and had just ended six years of marriage. They finalized their divorce in November 2013.

After Kutcher and Kunis reconnected, their friendship quickly turned into a whirlwind romance.

They got engaged in February 2014 and the lovebirds tied the knot the following year in July.

During that time, the couple welcomed their daughter Wyatt in October.

And, after getting married, they had son Dimitri in November 2016.

Previously, Kunis spoke about how their decades-spanning romance stemmed from how they filmed similar movies separately and ‘lived out’ the casual dating lifestyle.

Kunis’ concerns follow reports of Kutcher’s ‘regret’ over his friendship with Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs, following the rapper’s arrest last month.

Combs, 54, is currently awaiting trial at Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center in New York City on charges of sex trafficking, racketeering and transportation to engage in prostitution after being arrested earlier this month.

Kutcher had been close friends with Diddy for two decades, with the duo speaking highly of each other over the years and the actor even attending one of his infamous White Parties.

However, in light of Combs’ arrest, insiders claimed Kutcher is terrified that the rap star could ‘say anything, do anything or turn on anyone’ to get out of jail.

‘Ashton absolutely regrets his friendship with Diddy considering what has happened,’ an insider previously told DailyMail.com. ‘He feels lied to, betrayed, taken for granted and manipulated.’

The source continued: ‘He feels the same way about Danny Masterson. He now trusts no one except for his wife Mila [Kunis]. He is going to keep his circle to his family.’

Back in October 2023, Kutcher and Kunis came under fire after sharing letters of support for their former That 70’s Show costar Danny Masterson, in which they pleaded for the judge to show leniency to the actor before he was sentenced to 30 years.

Following the backlash, the couple – who got married in 2015 and share two children – posted an apology video, and Kutcher stepped down as chair of his anti-child sex abuse organization.

DailyMail.com previously revealed that Kutcher was expecting a subpoena when Combs’ houses were raided earlier this year.

‘He does not want to get involved in this, but knows that his association means he already is,’ the insider explained.

‘If he gets contacted by the authorities, he will be fully cooperative as he has nothing to hide.

‘Ashton knows that he dug himself a hole with this one but never in a million years did he believe that Diddy was truly doing these horrible things.’
