    Xiaomi raises EV deliveries goal again on surging demand, Lifestyle News

    SHANGHAI/BEIJING — China’s Xiaomi Corp said on Monday (Nov 18) it aimed to deliver 130,000 electric vehicles this year, raising its forecast for the third time as the automaker upstart posted a 30.5 per cent jump in third-quarter revenue.

    CEO Lei Jun said on his social media account that the electronics maker was raising its goal from a previous target to deliver 120,000 of its first EV, the SU7 sedan, as demand surges. This is also far more than an initial goal of 76,000 it set when it launched the SU7 early this year.

    Xiaomi launched the car, which takes styling cues from Porsche, in March, entering a crowded Chinese EV market with an attention-grabbing price tag – under US$30,000 (S$40,162) for the base model, US$4,000 cheaper than that of Tesla’s, opens new tab Model 3 in China.

    EV and plug-in hybrid sales in China have grown to account for over half of overall sales in the world’s largest auto maker. In October they grew by 56.7 per cent from the prior year, marking the fourth consecutive month battery-powered autos including plug-ins outsold gasoline cars in the country.

    To keep up with demand, Xiaomi has doubled production shifts since June and launched the premium SU7 Ultra model priced at more than US$110,000.

    Xiaomi’s President Lu Weibing told a post-earnings call that its factory now had the capacity to make 20,000 cars each month and that he still saw scope for that to grow.

    “Our investment is still very substantial and we continue to improve our hardware and software. And basically it doesn’t matter what the ultimate delivery level is, we are still investing very heavily. We are working on R&D (research and development) for new models,” he said.

    One of the areas Xiaomi was working on was developing autonomous driving technology, he added.

    Auto business still operating at a loss 

    Revenue was 92.5 billion yuan (S$17.1 billion) for the quarter ended Sept 30, beating an LSEG consensus estimate from 15 analysts of 91.1 billion yuan.

    Huatai Securities has forecast Xiaomi will deliver 400,000 EVs in 2025 when electric cars will grow to account for roughly a fifth of revenue compared with 8 per cent for this year.

    Xiaomi’s auto business though is still operating at a loss. The unit reported an adjusted loss of 1.5 billion yuan for the quarter, with a gross profit margin of 17.1 per cent.

    During the quarter, Xiaomi maintained its position as the world’s third-largest smartphone maker with shipments of 42.8 million units, up 3 per cent and capturing 14 per cent of the market, according to research firm Canalys.

    Lu said the company planned to increase the number of offline retail stores in mainland China from 13,000 to 15,000 by the end of the year and 20,000 to next year, and was investing heavily in technology to grow its market share.

    Xiaomi reported adjusted net profit up 4.4 per cent to 6.25 billion yuan, versus a consensus estimate of 5.92 billion yuan.

    Jake Bates hit a 52-yard field goal as time expired Sunday to help the Detroit Lions beat the Houston Texans 26-23 for their seventh straight win.

    The Lions scored the final 19 points of the game after having trailed 23-7 at halftime. Detroit overcame a chaotic performance by quarterback Jared Goff, who threw five interceptions in the win. Goff is just the third quarterback since 1990 to win a game while throwing five interceptions.

    C.J. Stroud threw two interceptions of his own for the Texans, and he was also sacked four times.

    Goff was picked off on the Lions’ first drive, and Houston responded by scoring a touchdown eight plays later. After a Detroit three-and-out, the Texans added to their lead with a field goal.

    Metchie was selected in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft, but missed the entire 2022 season after he was diagnosed with acute promyelocytic leukemia. He played in 16 games for Houston last season, catching 16 passes.

    Metchie entered Sunday with four catches for 36 yards in six games. In the first half alone against the Lions, Metchie had four catches for 65 yards — and his first career touchdown.

    Mixon had 609 yards rushing and six touchdowns in only six games this season entering ‘Sunday Night Football,’ and he added another score already against the Lions. He has touchdowns in every game but one he’s appeared in.

    SIOUX FALLS — Adjusting to the speed of the college game typically takes time, but for Augustana freshman Joey DelGreco, the game is beginning to slow down.

    The Vikings’ rookie forward scored the eventual game-winning goal in the second period, and Augustana bounced back from its overtime loss the night before, toppling Bemidji State 5-1 Saturday at Midco Arena to cap off a thrilling day of action on campus.

    DelGreco extended his goal streak to three games and also contributed an assist for the Vikings (5-5, 2-2 CCHA).

    “It’s always a jump going from junior hockey to college obviously, but the last few games, I feel like our line’s just kind of gelled together real well,” DelGreco said. “As a whole team, we’ve been hanging onto pucks and playing our game of hockey, which is speed. We have a lot of skill guys on our team that can make plays.

    “Just the last couple of games, it’s been almost easier hockey, and I owe a lot to all the guys around me.”

    Brett Meerman led the way for AU with three points on an assist and two goals, including an empty-netter in the final seconds, while goalie Josh Kotai stopped 22 shots to pick up his fifth win of the season.

    The Vikings never trailed in the game, as the fourth line got things going in the opening period. Midway through the period, a loose puck got away from DelGreco on the rush, and Colton Friesen buried it past Bemidji goaltender Mattias Sholl as Friesen’s legs were swiped out from underneath him. Hayden Hennen picked up a secondary assist on the tally.

    The Beavers (4-5, 3-3) responded with the equalizer several minutes later on a goal from Reilly Funk, but that was all AU allowed on the evening.

    The Vikings finished the game with a 28-23 advantage in shots on goal, including 10-5 in the first 20 minutes.

    “I’m proud that they were able to respond after last night’s game with energy, and it showed up right away in the first period,” Augustana coach Garrett Raboin said.

    Then, in the second, the Vikings were on the power play when BSU defenseman Tony Follmer attempted to clear the puck from behind his own net. However, it landed right in the midsection of Meerman, who dished it over to DelGreco.

    After Sholl initially stopped the shot, DelGreco stuck with the puck and eventually snuck it across the goal line to give the hosts a 2-1 lead with 11:40 to go in the period.

    “We needed to catch a break. It wasn’t pretty, but they found one,” Raboin said about the power-play tally. “It was just determination, nothing coaches draw up.

    “They just had to work for one, and then you saw they kind of settled down a little bit.”

    The Vikings broke out for three goals in the final period, starting with a goal from Tyler Hennen off a rebound after Evan McIntyre made a great play on the blue line to keep the puck in the offensive zone.

    Meerman then provided the final two goals, including a tally from Hunter Bischoff and Kotai that pushed the lead to 4-1 at the 13:04 mark of the period. Owen Bohn picked up a helper on Meerman’s empty-netter.

    “Even when we were winning 2-1, we knew the game was far from over, so we wanted to keep pressing and not play on our heels the whole third period,” DelGreco said. “A lot of guys stepped up and made huge plays in the third period at the end there, so it took a little weight off the shoulders making it a 5-1 game.”

    After a 4-3 overtime loss in Friday night’s series opener, Kotai was back in form on Saturday, making 11 saves in the final period alone while the offense provided goal support.

    “I thought he was outstanding tonight. … He was back,” Raboin said about Kotai. “If we needed him tonight to win us the game, he would’ve done that.”

    On the other side, Sholl stopped 23 shots in a losing effort.

    For just the third time this season, the Vikings finished the game with more shots than their opponent.

    While winning the shot battle has been a point of emphasis for Raboin and his staff, the Augustana bench boss doesn’t want it to deter his players from making plays.

    The balance in that is understanding when and where to make those plays.

    “When you have a group and you’re trying to give them the freedom to make mistakes, trying to make plays, you can turn pucks over in some vulnerable areas,” Raboin said. “As they gain confidence and learn when to make plays and where to make plays, you’re able to hold onto pucks a little bit longer.”

    Sholl, the reigning CCHA Goaltender of the Year, was his ordinary self through the first half of Saturday’s game, making several desperation saves in the early going.

    “Our guys stuck with it though,” Raboin said. “We have to encourage our guys to continue to make plays, have confidence and keep the puck.”

    A great day to be a Viking

    It was a big Saturday across the landscape of Augustana athletics, beginning with the volleyball team’s 3-1 Senior Day win over UMary at the Elmen Center.

    Then, Vikings runner Ryan Hartman claimed a first-place finish at the NCAA regional meet in Joplin, Missouri, while the women’s cross country team took the team championship.

    The football team retained the Key to the City trophy and clinched a share of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference title thanks to a 27-21 win over Sioux Falls at Kirkeby-Over Stadium.

    It set up nicely for the nightcap at Midco, and the Vikings delivered.

    “We had the last job that needed to be finished,” Raboin said, “and we’re fortunate for our guys to get it done.”

    “That was just really special to cap the night off like that,” McIntyre said. “We saw some students flood in to watch us, and we were glad we could give them a good show tonight.”

    BYU sophomore Avery Frischknecht scored the game-winning goal in the 89th minute at No. 14 Texas Tech, securing a 2-1 Cougar victory on Friday, Oct. 25, 2024.

    LUBBOCK, Texas — In their last game of the regular season, the Cougars rallied from a 1-0 halftime deficit to defeat No. 14 Texas Tech 2-1, getting the game-winner with less than a minute to play.

    In the 89th minute, Allie Fryer was fouled and earned a free kick. Lucy Kesler took the kick and connected with Avery Frischkneckt, who headed the ball into the bottom left of the goal in the final minute of the game, shocking the nearly 2,000 fans in attendance at the John Walker Soccer Complex.

    The Cougars managed to hold on to their lead for the last thirty seconds of regulation to hand the Red Raiders their first home loss of the season.

    Frischknecht’s now-four goals of the season have all been headers with McKenzee Vance finding her name on the scoresheet for the fifth time this season.

    The win secured the No. 4 seed for BYU (8-5-5 overall, 6-2-3 Big 12) in the upcoming Big 12 Tournament. The Cougars will play the winner of No. 5 Oklahoma State-No. 12 Cincinnati on Nov. 2 at CPKC Stadium in Kansas City, Mo.

    The Cougars played a physical game against Texas Tech, with six fouls of their own and 11 for the Red Raiders.

    BYU had trouble maintaining possession for the first few minutes of the opening half, and Texas Tech took advantage with a corner kick in the second minute and an off-target shot in the third. The Cougars came back in the 10th minute with a shot and corner kick of their own.

    The teams traded shots for the next thirty minutes, and the Red Raiders broke the 0-0 tie in the 41st minute with a goal from Taylor Zdrojewski off a free kick. Despite a shot attempt by BYU in the final minute, Texas Tech held its 1-0 lead.

    The Cougars ended the first half with six shots, one on goal, two corner kicks and one save.

    Texas Tech began the second half with a corner and a near goal, but BYU came back with a shot by Allie Fryer in the 52nd minute. The Cougars gained a free kick near the 18 off a Red Raiders’ foul, and Vance tied the game 1-1 with an arcing shot into the bottom right of the goal.

    Texas Tech quickly regained possession and fired off an unsuccessful shot in the 55th minute, and BYU answered with two corners and a shot. The teams fired back-and-forth shots for the next thirty minutes, but the score remained 1-1 until the Kesler-Frischknecht connection in the final minute.

    In the second half, BYU totaled 10 shots, three on goal, four corners and two saves.

Tied at 33, CSS missed the extra point.

    That proved immaterial, however, as the Oles pounded out a game-winning drive, going 71 yards over the remaining time before Collin Swan’s chip-shot field goal as time expired.

    West had 393 yards passing on 30-of-43 attempts, with Weber collecting 12 passes for 144 yards and Andrew Burgess making seven catches for 89 yards. Nick Schlender led CSS on the ground with 92 yards on 11 carries.

    CSS (2-4, 1-3 MIAC) will host Carleton on Saturday.

    An 83rd-minute penalty kick goal from Gabriel Marchesoni pulled St. Scholastica within one, but the Saints couldn’t find an equalizer in the remaining time and lost 3-2 to Saint Mary’s on Saturday in a MIAC soccer game in Duluth.

    The Cardinals took the lead on a penalty of their own from Cohan Hare in the 30th minute, only for Ted Barker to level it for CSS about eight minutes later.

    The match stayed tied through the hour mark before a pair of Saint Mary’s goal gave them the edge.

    Marco Hernandez made three saves for the Saints and Ben Hallberg one.

    The Saints also lost 5-1 at Hamline on Tuesday, Oct. 15 with Barker scoring their only goal.

    CSS (3-11-1, 1-5 MIAC) plays at Saint John’s on Wednesday.

    St. Scholastica grabbed a draw for the first time this season in MIAC play, deadlocking 0-0 at Hamline on Wednesday in St. Paul.

    The Pipers had 21 shot attempts to CSS’s seven and had a similar 3-to-1 (9-3) advantage in shots on target, but goalkeeper Gracie Meagher made all nine saves she was called on to make.

    On Saturday, Saint Mary’s handed CSS a 3-0 defeat, two of the goals coming from Lauryn Skoruppa.

    Meagher made four saves.

    CSS (0-12-4, 0-7-1 MIAC) plays at Saint Benedict on Tuesday.

    After losses to Bethel on Wednesday and at Wisconsin-Superior on Friday, St. Scholastica volleyball evened out the week with a pair of 3-0 wins over Lawrence and Northland in a nonconference triangular on Saturday in Ashland.

    The Saints won a close one, 25-22, 26-24, 25-22, over Lawrence after Lindsey Baribeau had a strong all-around game at the net with nine kills and four blocks, plus three aces at the serving line. Ava Swangstue and Cassidy Lustig added eight kills apiece.

    Defensively, Bailee Hess had a team-best 15 digs, while Katlyn Jones added 13 and Zoie McDonald 10. Grace Myhre set the Saints to 28 assists.In the 25-22, 25-20, 25-12 win over Northland, Baribeau added 13 more kills and Swangstue 11. Hess had 17 digs, while Jones and Lustig posted 12 apiece.Myhre had 30 saves.

    Trevino goal makes Montague first-time boys soccer district champs | White Lake Beacon

    MONTAGUE – Trevor Trevino broke a scoreless deadlock late in the second half to lead the Wildcats to their first ever district title in a thriller over Fremont in the Michigan High School Athletic Association’s Division 3 district final, 1-0, Oct. 16.

    Both teams were deadlocked at 0-0 at halftime and up until the 9:18 mark in the second half when Trevino broke through and got the game winner despite having three Fremont defenders around him.

    Like everyone else after the game, Trevino was very excited and happy.

    Trevino said about how he felt about the game-winning goal, saying, “It feels really good … It’s the first time in history ever, it’s so much energy and we all brought it today and they got me through it and we won.”

    Trevino said about what through his mind when he scored, “I don’t remember, it was just crazy.

    “All the fans here were really loud and I was really happy.’

    During the game, the Wildcats were quite animated and excited on the sideline, something Trevino said gave them more energy.

    “When we’re moving like that it beats the other team tired and we capitalize on it, move the ball around and it got us here,” Trevino said.

    Before and after the goal, even though it appeared that Montague controlled much of the play with their speed, both teams had many rushes into each other’s end.

    However, both teams also played a physical game.

    Anytime Fremont tried to make something happen offensively, Montague was there to take away the ball. But it was a well-played game by both teams, offensively and defensively.

    And after the game, the Wildcats got their first-ever chance to hold up the district award.

    Also, after the game, Trevino said that the energy that came when he scored his three-goal hat trick during Monday’s district semifinal against Orchard View carried over to the district final.

    “I knew it would come eventually,” Trevino said. “I knew I’d get the opportunities and capitalize on it and I did.”

    About going to the regionals, Wildcats Head Coach Brandon Mahoney said, “It’s very exciting; first time for us, so it’s exciting that we cracked that egg at home at our field and win a district with this amazing home crowd.”

    “There’s a banner in the gym with no district titles but now it will,” Mahoney said.

    He also talked about Trevino’s goal, saying, “He’s good with feet, we talked at half and we felt that he could beat that outside defender and just told him you’re going to have to put a move on.”

    “And obviously, we had other opportunities, we just didn’t finish in the first half,” Mahoney said.

    “So, great work by Trevor to get us that goal and to the rest of the squad to hang on for the last six minutes and keep Fremont out of the net.”

    The Wildcats begin regional play Tuesday, Oct. 22 in Clare against the winner of Kingsford and Grayling.

    West Valley 13, Rogers 0: Jenna Howe scored a goal with three assists and the visiting Eagles (11-0-1, 8-0) beat the Pirates (0-10, 0-7) at ONE Spokane Stadium. Reagan Simpson came off the bench to score twice for West Valley.

    North Central 2, Pullman 1 (SO): Audrey Bartlett scored unassisted early in regulation and the visiting Wolfpack (6-6, 4-4) defeated the Greyhounds (8-3, 6-2) 4-1 in a shootout. Sidney Johnson tied the game in the 55th minute for the Greyhounds.

    Clarkston 4, Deer Park 3 (OT): Rebecca Skinner scored the winner in overtime, her fourth of the game, and the Bantams (8-4, 4-4) defeated the visiting Stags (6-5, 3-5). Rylee Pfeifer scored three goals for Deer Park.

    NEA

    Riverside 1, Colville 0: Layla Baker scored the go-ahead goal in the 57th minute and the Rams (4-5, 2-1) defeated the visiting Crimson Hawks (3-7, 0-3). Amelia Carroll made six saves for the clean sheet.

    Freeman 11, Newport 0: Rylee Russell scored six goals and the Scotties (10-0, 7-0) beat the visiting Grizzlies (1-6, 0-4). Russell has 31 goals on the season, the most in the state in any classification.

    Northwest Christian 3, Upper Columbia Academy 0: The visiting Crusaders (7-1-1, 4-1) defeated the Lions (2-5, 2-4).

    Gonzaga Prep 3, Shadle Park 0: Mara Sandberg had 11 kills with 10 digs and the visiting Bullpups (7-2, 5-1) beat the Highlanders (7-6, 2-4).

    Mead 3, Ferris 1: Ava Durgan had 14 kills and the visiting Panthers (4-5, 3-3) beat the Saxons (4-6, 1-4).

    Central Valley 3, University 0: The visiting Bears (3-7, 2-3) beat the Titans (2-7, 1-5).

    Pullman 3, North Central 0: Sophie Armstrong had 11 kills and the Greyhounds (7-5, 6-3) defeated the visiting Wolfpack (3-11, 2-6). Mandy Schwahn had 13 kills for NC.

    West Valley 3, Rogers 0: Hailey Colyar and Macy Osborn had six kills apiece and the visiting Eagles (11-0, 8-0) beat the Pirates (1-10, 0-8). Cidney Pernell led Rogers with four kills.

    Deer Park 3, Clarkston 0: Jacey Boesell had 19 assists, and the visiting Stags (10-2, 5-2) defeated the Bantams (5-4, 5-3). Reese De Groot had 11 kills for the Bantams.

    Cheney 3, East Valley 0: Mairyn O’Regan had eight kills and the Blackhawks (3-8) beat the visiting Knights (2-9). Victoria Madge led East Valley with seven kills.

    Ridgeline 3, Lewis and Clark 3: Brooklyn Hillman and Rahni Greene had nine kills apiece and the visiting Falcons (10-0) beat the Tigers (4-6).

    Riverside 3, Colville 0: Kaylee Winterroth had 12 kills, KC Murphey added 11 assists, and the Rams (6-5, 1-1) defeated the visiting Crimson Hawks (2-8, 0-3). Allison Petrey had eight kills for Colville.
