    The Conant boys’ soccer team played its best ball of the fall against Sanborn Friday, but their early spark burned out quickly in the late September sun. 

    Conant (0-8) played a solid first half that coach Heather Sawyer said was their best of the season; the winless Orioles and visiting Indians were deadlocked at zero entering the break. 

    “I feel like we played well the first quarter, and then the last 10, 15 minutes of the half, a lot of us died out and lost energy, which is frustrating for us,” senior captain Ben Sawyer said after the game,

    Indeed, for much of the first half, the Orioles looked primed to pick up their first win of the campaign, but as the period progressed, fatigue set in. Down two starters from an already-thin roster, Conant’s substitution patterns were compromised.

    “That changed the shape of the game,” Heather Sawyer said. “We had people out of position, kids starting who aren’t used to starting, and it dramatically changed our substitutions.”

    Sanborn came out of the half and seized momentum, bringing the attack to Conant’s senior goalkeeper Jared Nagle, who was up to the challenge until the Indians finally broke through with 28:07 remaining by creating an own-goal off a shot by senior Evan Doherty that redirected into the net off an Oriole defender. 

    The deflating play opened the floodgates for the Indians, as Doherty would score again on the ground with a 25-foot boot just five minutes later. At that point, coach Sawyer switched strategies from defensive to offensive, bringing Nagle — pressed into service in goal this season — back to his natural position in the field. 

    “It’s the balance of do you put in the defensive posture and try to keep the score tight, which is what we’ve opted for,, to try to keep the score tight as we can for as long as we can and then try to be an opportunist — or, do you flip it and just try to attack hard from the get-go?” she said.

    Nagle’s addition to the field brought some fresh legs and new energy to the Orioles alongside the long-striding Sawyer, feisty midfielder Drey Seppala and hardworking freshman Gavin Schultz. But the Conant attack was turned back, and the Indians got stoppage-time goals from Samuel Allain and Spencer Lamirande to create a 4-0 final.

    It has been a frustrating fall for senior captain Sawyer, who brought home hardware in the track season, played for a state title in basketball and for the previous three years was part of a Conant soccer team that competed at the highest levels in Division III. In his final soccer season, the Orioles have yet to win a single game. 

    “It’s hard,” he said. “It’s definitely a lot different this year, but I’m trying to keep a positive outlook on it and bring these guys up, try to get a win.”

    That might happen sooner rather than later. When the Orioles weren’t fatigued, they were moving the ball well, passing with intent to feet, and creating offensive chances. They’ve only improved as the season’s gone along, Heather Sawyer said.

    “I’ve definitely seen this group of kids learn, grow, we’re doing things better,” she said. “It’s just a matter of numbers and time and opponent. I do think with who we’ve got the rest of the season, we could string a few wins together despite our record. I truly believe it.”

    Conant is at Fall Mountain (3-4-1) Tuesday.

    Scott Cam is reportedly ready to hang up his tool belt and retire from The Block after 14 years as its host.

    The media personality, 61, who took over as host from Jamie Durie in 2010 during season three of the series, is said to be frustrated with contestants in recent years.

    Woman’s Day reports that Scott’s had enough and 2025 will be his last year, but Nine says that’s just not the case. 

    An insider alleges that Scott revealed his retirement plans while filming season 20, saying he was only doing ‘this year and next’ on the show.

    ‘When Jesse [Maguire] and Paige [Beechey] quit the series mid-season, it really shocked him and made him even more determined to walk away in 2025,’ they said.

    ‘Scott holds The Block very dear to his heart and he couldn’t understand why anyone would leave his hit series and the highly emotional decision they made. 

    ‘It reinforced to him the idea of leaving on a high next year to spend more time with his family.’

    The source went on to reference similar rumours which spread in 2023 about Scott retiring soon, but Nine ‘squashed’ those by signing him onto a new deal.

    However, the deal is said to have only covered two years, keeping Scott on as host for the 2024 20th anniversary season and the 2025 Daylesford season. 

    According to the insider, it was all ‘part of a grand plan for Scott to leave on a high with very two different and challenging seasons of the renovation show’.

    The Block was originally set to film in Daylesford this year, but complications with receiving council permits pushed that renovation back to next year. 

    Producers scrambled at the last second to secure a run down resort on Phillip Island, dropping a staggering $9.5 million on Island Cove Villas,

    The insider said Scott was ‘bitterly disappointed’ when Daylesford was put on the backburner because he wanted to host that season ‘then bow out graciously’. 

    However, Nine has once again put those rumours to rest, telling Daily Mail Australia on Monday: ‘Scott Cam has no plans to step down from The Block.’ 

    It comes just days after Jesse, 29, and Paige, 27, lashed out at host Scott after he made ‘distasteful’ comments about recent participants on the show.

    Last month, Scott said contestants of the Channel Nine renovation series have less grit than they did 20 years ago, when the show began.

    ‘They are less resilient than they were 20 years ago, 15 years ago,’ Scott told news.com.au at the time.

    ‘There’s more expectation of it getting easier, but it’s not. It gets harder… And people aren’t ready for how hard it is.’ 

    Jesse and Paige, who dramatically left the show halfway through the current season, hit back at Scott’s comments.

    ‘A lot of people didn’t like what Scott said. A lot of people did not like that. I think that was very distasteful,’ Paige told Yahoo Lifestyle.

    Jesse went on to point out the show is completely different these days and contestants no longer have time to build due to challenges and daily consultations.

    The builder-turned-reality TV host attended a launch party for the 2023 season of his show and told the crowd he was planning on staying for a long time.

    ‘Two months ago I signed a multiple year deal with the Nine Network. It was an easy decision as I love this show and couldn’t think of going anywhere else,’ he said.

    Scott then said while he had no immediate retirement plans, when that day came in the distant future he had the perfect person in mind to take over as host.

    ‘I reckon the only person who could do it is my current co-host Shelley Craft, that’s right,’ he said. 

    Shelley, 48, added there was no one better suited than her to take over the reins when the time finally came.

    ‘That’s my job, isn’t it? Don’t I step up and then I get a sidekick?’ she joked.

    In 2022, Scott addressed speculation about his future on the show yet again, telling Daily Mail Australia he would be on building sites for decades to come.

    The veteran tradie has a 40 plus-year career behind him and has hosted The Block for the past 14 years—with seemingly no desire to stop any time soon.

    ‘I’m 60 this year and I’m physically fit, I’m doing a renovation of my home now because of the mould from all the rain,’ he told Daily Mail Australia at the time.

    ‘I’ve got at least another decade on the tools. I told my wife recently, we’ve got 20 years of good health left so from January 1, let’s start a 20-year odyssey of living life. 

    ‘I’ll keep going till I can’t anymore because I love it. I reckon I can do 20 years on the tools, and I’ll pull up when my body tells me to.’

    Health minister speaks about various aspects of health that can help reduce heart disease burden; urges people to stay active, cut down on unhealthy food

    During the World Heart Day prog on Saturday, Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao emphasized that the increasing prevalence of heart-related diseases is primarily due to changes in lifestyle and unhealthy dietary habits.

    Speaking at a health awareness walk held in Bengaluru on Saturday, the minister highlighted the role of processed foods and poor lifestyle choices in the rising number of cardiovascular diseases.

    Minister Rao stressed the need for people to reduce their consumption of processed foods, stating, “We need to minimize our intake of processed foods as much as possible. Many processed foods contain high levels of sugar, which in turn leads to an increase in diabetes. Conditions like diabetes and hypertension are key factors that contribute to heart diseases. It’s important that people realize this.”

    It is time to adopt healthier habits
    He further explained the importance of adopting healthier habits, urging the public to be more conscious about their health. “Building good habits is crucial. People need to take greater responsibility for their health and make informed decisions regarding their diet and lifestyle. Prevention is always better than cure,” he noted.

    The minister also spoke about the measures taken by the health department to tackle sudden heart attacks. Through the ‘Puneeth Rajkumar Hridaya Jyothi’ initiative, the government has been providing effective treatment for those suffering from heart attacks.

    What the initiative is all about
    “Under this initiative, nearly 200,000 heart screenings have been conducted, and ECGs have been performed on 181,000 individuals,” said Gundu Rao. He added that the government has been providing Tenecteplase injections free of charge in government hospitals at the taluk level, which has been a great relief for the common man.

    “This has made a significant difference in the treatment of heart attack patients, ensuring timely care even in rural areas. Today’s awareness walk was organized by the Tathagata Heart Center in Bengaluru, and it aimed to spread awareness about heart health among the general public. The walk saw participation from people from various walks of life, highlighting the growing concern about heart disease in the community,” he said.

    Minister Gundu Rao concluded by reiterating the importance of public awareness and the collective responsibility of individuals to take care of their health.

    Can the 2024 Giants be a good football team?

    Quarterback Daniel Jones insisted this week that the 0-2 New York Giants are, or at least can be, a good football team.

    “I think everyone realizes our record. I think everybody understands that, but no one’s discouraged or no one’s letting that affect our preparation and how hard we work going into the game,” Jones said. “There’s a great energy and feel in the building still, and I think that that’s important and important to our preparation, important to our process and making sure we’re practicing well and preparing to play well. We know the record, but it’s a long season, and we’ve got a good football team.”

    Are they, though? Or, is there at least in opportunity that they can be the good football team Jones and others claim they believe they are?

    “It’s going to get better. Right now, it’s just rough,” defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence said. “These two games, you can’t compare this season to last season. It’s a whole new team. A lot of new players. A couple new staff. It’s just a little growing pain through these first two weeks.”

    It is, though, getting late early for these Giants. At least if they want to be relevant during the current season. Maybe over the course of the next 15 games the Giants will continue to get better. Maybe they won’t be as bad as the first two games — a blowout loss to the Minnesota Vikings and a game against the Washington Commanders that typified a bad team finding a way to beat itself — lead many to believe the season might be.

    The Giants, though, desperately need a victory on Sunday if they are going to play any meaningful games over the remaining 15 weeks of the season. Fall to 0-3, the remainder of the year is most likely about figuring out what the 2025 Giants look like.

    “Wins create juice,” linebacker Micah McFadden said this week.

    The Giants’ season needs some juice. As ugly as things were three plays into the season opener against the Minnesota Vikings, it could be worse at MetLife Stadium on Thursday night if the Giants enter that nationally-televised game at 0-3.

    The game against the favored Browns — who will be at home and feature a top-notch defense — will be difficult for the Giants. Our entire staff has abandoned ship, picking the Browns to win and sink the Giants deeper into their misery.

    There are some reasons for optimism. Which, let’s acknowledge, might all get blown to smithereens with a bad performance Sunday in Ohio. Let’s go through them.

    2024 rookie class

    Accepted NFL doctrine is that it takes three seasons to fully judge a draft class. I believe that to be correct. Still, after just two weeks it is plain to see that this rookie class could be transformative for the Giants.

    • First-round pick Malik Nabers is special. His receiver Expected Points Added (EPA) is third in the league, per NextGen Stats.

    The Browns know:

    “He’s a great player,” Cleveland cornerback Denzel Ward said of Nabers. “Gets a lot of targets on their team, good after the catch, got good hands.”

    “He’s very, very fast. He’s explosive,” head coach Kevin Stefanski said of the rookie receiver. “There’s a reason he was drafted where he was drafted. He’s a very, very, very good young player.”

    • Second-round pick Tyler Nubin, whom the Giants believe will become the leader of their secondary, is starting at safety and playing solidly.
    • Third-round pick Dru Phillips has gotten attention for his instincts and his physicality from the slot cornerback position.
    • Fourth-round pick Theo Johnson had a rough opening week and has only one reception in two games. What the Giants think of him is obvious, though, as he has pushed Daniel Bellinger — a good player — to the bench.
    • There is tremendous optimism about the future of Tyrone Tracy, the running back selected in the fifth round. Tracy has barely played, getting only 27 snaps over two games, but the belief here is that his role is going to expand.
    • Linebacker Darius Muasau, the sixth-round pick, was impressive in Week 1 before sitting out Week 2 with a knee injury. If he becomes more than a useful special teams player, that is a win.

    If the Giants get a superstar receiver and three to four building-block players out of this class, that would be a tremendous haul.

    Offensive line performance

    The Giants offensive line is … good? Or, at least good enough? Does the NFL allow the Giants to possess a line that can be thought of that way?

    • Pro Football Focus grades the Giants as the league’s sixth-best pass-blocking team after two weeks. No, that is not a typo. PFF does grade the line 30th in run-blocking, but the Giants did open enough holes for Devin Singletary to run 16 times for 95 yards in Week 2.
    • The Giants have allowed six sacks in two games, a pace that would have them at 51 for the season. That’s a lot better than the 85 allowed last year. The team sack rate allowed of 7.9% is 17th in the NFL, per NextGen Stats.
    • Per NextGen, Daniel Jones has been pressured on 32.9% of his dropbacks. That is 13th-most in the league. Pretty much average — a huge improvement from 2023.

    “I feel good about the progress that we’ve made over the first two games, but to be named a great offensive line or a good offensive line, you have to do it consistently,” said left tackle Andrew Thomas. “We’re just approaching this week as another opportunity to get better, protect DJ (Daniel Jones), and open up run lanes.”

    Through two games, Thomas is Pro Football Focus’s highest-graded pass blocker. Thomas is eighth overall and Jermaine Eluemunor 51st overall among 91 qualifiers. Perhaps most encouragingly, second-year center John Michael Schmitz is grading middle of the pack (No. 21 of 31 qualifiers) with a 60.4 overall grade. That is nearly 20 points higher than his 41.4 a season ago.

    Left guard Jon Runyan Jr. has been a Schmitz supporter since the spring.

    “He’s the one that’s in charge of pretty much directing this whole offense, him and Daniel (Jones). We go up there to the line and everybody’s got their eyes on him. Everybody’s listening to what he’s got to say and helping us out and getting us going in the right direction and he’s always on top of his stuff,” Runyan said. “Nothing really fazes him and doing a good job in the run and pass game.     The Giants have a huge challenge this week against Myles Garrett, Za’Darius Smith and the rest of Cleveland’s impressive front seven.

    It seems weird to enter a game against a good defensive line thinking the Giants might actually have a chance to hold their own at the line of scrimmage.

    The NFC East ain’t great

    Look at the division standings. The Philadelphia Eagles, Dallas Cowboys, and Washington Commanders are all 1-1. Look at the way each team has played over the season’s first two weeks. None, honestly, should be crowing about how great they have been. All are flawed.

    Those three games could all easily be losses for the NFC East teams.

    If the Giants can win on Sunday there is a possibility that there is a four-way tie in the NFC East at 1-2 entering Thursday’s game against Dallas. That’s not fantastic, but it is at least something to be optimistic about entering Week 3.

    Final thoughts

    There are plenty of things to worry about with the 2024 Giants — I haven’t covered the first two games with blinders on. It is certainly possible that a few days from now the Giants are 0-4 and yet another Giants season will be in the dumpster.

    These, though, are some of the things fans can — and should — feel good about. Of course, no one will feel good about anything if the Giants are 0-3 by late Sunday afternoon.

    Intermittent fasting (IF) has emerged as a popular diet in recent times. In this, you are required to alternate between eating and fasting periods. While it may work well for some, Rashi recommends avoiding it if you have PCOS. She explains, “If you’re going to do intermittent fasting every single day, and not cyclically, it’s going to raise your cortisol levels and bring down your progesterone.” When this happens, it can mess up your hormones and worsen your condition.

    2. Low Calorie Diet

    Low-calorie diets are great for losing weight, but not for people with PCOS. According to Rashi, eating low-calorie foods like salads all the time can do more harm than good. In fact, it can make your condition worse. This is because your body may go into survival mode, instead of focusing on thriving processes like ovulation. You may be getting your period, but this does not necessarily mean you are ovulating. Therefore, it’s essential to fulfil your recommended daily calorie intake, which is about 1600 to 2400 calories a day.

    3. All Fruit Diet

    Do you resort to having fruits all the time, thinking they are healthy? Well, this is exactly why you’re unable to manage your symptoms, especially if you have insulin-resistant PCOS. For the unversed, this specific type of PCOS is caused by blood sugar dysregulation. The nutritionist explains that eating too many fruits at once can cause a rapid spike in your blood sugar levels. So, while you think you’re eating healthy, it can worsen your hormones. If you want balanced hormones, start with balanced blood sugar levels.
