    Meghan Markle’s American Riviera Orchard lifestyle brand has “yet another issue,” Daily Mail columnist Maureen Callahan has claimed.

    The latest setback comes as the Duchess of Sussex’s venture continues, and she used it to “reach out” to the people that she has lost touch with.

    Speaking to GBN America, Callahan said: “She’s also just taken yet another hit with American Riviera Orchard.

    “There’s a lifestyle brand called Harry and David that has just filed a patent issue with the US Patent Office.

    “They are claiming that her company is a little too close to a product of theirs that is named something like similar but she’s all she’s got yet another issue getting this thing off the ground.

    “How long has it been that she’s been trying to lift this thing up? I mean, it’s not even going to air on Netflix, her cooking show, until sometime next spring.”

    According to Closer magazine, the Duchess is “meticulously curating gift packages filled with a selection of all her favourite things – and of course, plenty of her jam” for Hollywood’s elite.

    “While there is no doubt it’s about promoting her American Riviera Orchard brand, it’s also about spreading goodwill and trying to remind people of her softer side,” a source told the magazine.

    The timing appears strategic, with the insider noting: “With Christmas around the corner, Meghan sees it as the perfect time to try to rebuild connections.”

    Earlier this year the duchess delivered 50 jars of strawberry jam to some of Hollywood’s biggest stars.

    The source continued to tell Closer: “She’s sending them out to all her friends and acquaintances, and is willing to spend a fortune and a whole lot of time because she sees it as an investment in her relationships.”

    Harry, 40, has recently embarked on solo trips across New York, London, and South Africa.

    In September, trading officials declined Meghan’s application to trademark America Riviera Orchard, claiming it refers to her hometown of Montecito, with applicants unable to trademark a location.

    The source added: “She’s reaching out to people who aren’t necessarily so fond of her, like Kate, Queen Camilla, the Clooneys and the Beckhams.

    “She’s very eager to set the tone of peace for next year as one of peace and forgiveness.”

    Dallen Brereton-Stiles is a finalist in the RBC Training Ground program to identify future potential Olympic athletes.

    A young BMX racer from Coquitlam has received a major boost to his aspirations to someday compete in the Summer Olympics.

    Dallen Brereton-Stiles is one of 100 finalists from across Canada heading to Halifax, N.S., for the RBC Training Ground national final on Nov. 2.

    The RBC Training Ground program identifies potential future Olympians through their performance in a series of physical tests of their strength, speed, endurance and agility. The top 30 receive funding through one of 13 participating national sport organizations that will help accelerate their path to achieve their Olympic dream.

    Some of the program’s alumni who’ve gone on to compete at the Olympics include track cyclists Sarah Urban and Kelsey Mitchell, and rowers Gabrielle Smith and Trevor Jones.

    Brereton-Stiles, 15, has won races at events across North America and, as a 14-year-old, he finished eighth in his age category at last year’s UCI BMX racing world championships in Scotland. But he couldn’t compete at this year’s worlds in South Carolina because of an injury.

    Brereton-Stiles said going to the Olympics has been his dream since he started achieving top results in the sport he started when he was four. Getting to the Training Ground final makes it feel more realistic.

    “The Olympics is my dream,” Brereton-Stiles said. “This is a crazy opportunity to help me do that.”

    Although, it may not necessarily be as a BMX racer.

    Brereton-Stiles’ results in the first round of testing last March at the Olympic Oval in Richmond caught the attention of Bobsleigh Canada. Curiously, the organization also tapped a BMX buddy of his who is heading to the Training Ground national final as well.

    “It seems all BMXers are good bobsledders,” said Brereton-Stiles, who admitted he doesn’t know much about the sport although the explosive leg strength he needs for his quick sprint races at the 400-metre BMX track would likely serve him well at the bobsled start gate.

    Brereton-Stiles’ potential as a future bobsledder got him to the second round of testing. But when he indicated he didn’t think the sport would be a good fit for his aspirations, he thought that would be the end of the road.

    RBC didn’t agree.

    Brereton-Stiles’ results in the physical tests measuring his strength, vertical jumping ability and speed in various sprints were so good he made the cut for the national final anyway.

    To prepare, Brereton-Stiles said he’s been amping up his usual training routine that includes three days in the gym doing squats, leg exercises and sprints on a stationary bike.

    He said he’s paying particular attention to the tests he’ll be given in Halifax, like deadlifting weights, a 30-metre sprint, a wattage test to determine the power he can generate on a bike and a measure of the distance he can jump.

    “I feel like this will help me,” Brereton-Stiles said. “Honestly, I hope I can do good and have a good time.”

    Home-based business Ground Floor Coffee has made its comeback, shortly after announcing the closure of its operations last month.

    The coffee joint had made quite a stir when it first opened its doors (or windows, in their case) to customers in June 2022, selling coffee out of their ground-floor Pasir Ris HDB flat.

    Their brews not only drew a long queue — quite an unusual sight in the quiet HDB estate — but also went viral for its unusual concept.

    So it was not surprising that many were dismayed when its owner Adhwa Hasif announced the closure of their home-based business with the last day on Aug 18. No reasons were given at the time for the sudden decision.

    Subsequent posts on their Instagram page, however, hinted at a comeback.

    A video posted to page on Sept 20 showed “Ground Floor Coffee” stickers being pasted on plastic cups within what looked like a shop space.

    Excited responses from followers ensued: “Is this what I think it is?” 

    The same day, another video confirmed that they had found a more permanent, albeit separate, “home” for their business.

    “No matter what knocks you down in life, get back up and keep going. From Pasir Ris to the world,” stated the caption, which saw a “For Rent” sign being replaced by one which read “FOR GFC (Ground Floor Coffee)”.



    To a query which asked if the shop would still be in Pasir Ris, the account owner replied that it was “a stone’s throw away”.

    After the suspense, it was finally revealed yesterday (Sept 21) that the cafe is situated at East Village mall #01-53, located at 430 Upper Changi Road, near Simpang Bedok.

    The business also held its official opening yesterday. According to their Instagram bio, they are open Tuesdays to Sundays from 10am to 8pm.

    From what has been shared on social media, however, the shop is still primarily a takeaway outfit with no seats available for dining in.

    And while the location being a stone’s throw away from Pasir Ris is debatable, what’s not is the response to the opening, with many excitedly congratulating Hasif and his wife on their achievement.

    The takeaway coffee business is the brainchild of Hasif, a freelance photographer and self-taught barista.

    Speaking to AsiaOne two years ago, Hasif had shared how what began as a passion turned into a business operating out of his home window and which regularly sold out every day.

    “I honestly didn’t expect anything. I didn’t plan to make this as a business actually!”

    But life evidently had other plans.
