ESPN BET promo code pick: Miami-Louisville

The No. 6 Miami Hurricanes head up north for a road ACC matchup against the Louisville Cardinals. Miami is a five-point favorite on ESPN BET, and the over/under is set at 60.5 total points.

With Cam Ward leading the charge, the Hurricanes lead the country in points per game (47.7) and yards per game (583.8). He enters this game with 2,219 passing yards, 20 touchdowns and five interceptions, and his top target Xavier Restrepo is 11th in the country with 585 receiving yards and five scores.

Miami also runs the ball at 5.6 yards an attempt, so it can attack you in every way on the field. Its defense is also giving up just 18.8 points per game.

The 4-2 Louisville Cardinals are a good team, but probably nothing more than that. Louisville suffered two seven-point losses to Notre Dame and SMU, then barely beat a so-so Virginia team last weekend.

The Cardinals have some talented offensive players in QB Tyler Shough, running back Isaac Brown, and wide receiver Ja’Corey Brooks, so they should put up some points on the Hurricanes. That said, I just don’t trust their defense to slow down a talented offense like Miami.

Take Miami to cover with ESPN BET promo code NPNEWS when you sign up.

    Pick: Miami -5

Who is Noor Alfallah? Meet Al Pacino’s glamorous ex-girlfriend with a string of high-profile ex-boyfriends including Mick Jagger as she strikes up rumoured romance with Bill Maher

Noor Alfallah has sparked speculation that she is dating Bill Maher, after they were spotted together at the Chateau Marmont in Los Angeles earlier this month.

And on Wednesday an insider told People that the film producer, 30, and the comedian, 68, ‘have gone on several dates’.

The insider told the outlet that it was still very ‘early’ in the relationship between the TV host and Noor, who has had past romances with a number of notable names.

She previously was in a relationship with Hollywood star Al Pacino, 84, and shares one-year-old son Roman with him.

A separate source said that Noor and Bill – who share a 38 year age gap – remain ‘friends.’

But there are reports that their new romance has been going on longer than most people think, with People reporting that the May-December couple has gone on several dates outside of the public eye.

MailOnline is taking a look at Noor’s extraordinary Beverly Hills upbringing, recent career successes and numerous high-profile romances.

    Who is Noor Alfallah?

Noor grew up in the exclusive Beverly Hills neighborhood of Los Angeles, the oldest of four siblings, and was raised by her Kuwaiti father, Falah, and American mother, Alana.

Both have their social media accounts set to private, and according to her dad’s LinkedIn page, he is the president of a company called Q8 Capital Inc.

Noor’s younger sister Remi made headlines back in 2013, when she was linked to late singer Michael Jackson’s son Prince.

They reportedly dated while they both attended the super-private Buckley School in Sherman Oaks, California, and the pair was spotted on a series of dates around LA at the time.

The New York Post reported in 2013 that Noor’s family had a fortune ‘estimated to be in the high nine-figures.’

Over the years, Noor has built up an impressive circle of high-profile friends – including Imagine Entertainment chairman Brian Grazer, 73, and his wife Veronica, with whom she regularly posts photos on her Instagram account.

She also often flaunts her lavish jet-set lifestyle to her 80,000 followers, sharing glimpses into luxury trips to places like Capri and Saint-Tropez.

In 2022, she shared a number of snaps of herself staying in opulent locations including Cap d’Antibes – where she spent time at fashion designer Jean Pigozzi’s private villa.

And other photos see her posing with a number of her A-list pals, including Sienna Miller, Timothée Chalamet, and Kelly Rutherford.

Noor is also often spotted eating at popular LA restaurants and partying at glamorous hotspots – including the well-known sushi eatery Nobu, which is often visited by the Kardashians.

    What does Noor Alfallah do?

Noor studied at the UCLA School of Film and Television, before going on to secure a job as a film producer.

She is currently working as the vice president of Lynda Obst Productions at Sony, and is also reportedly developing two feature films with Obst.

The VP, along with her sister Remi, reportedly struck a pod-producing deal with Imagine Entertainment chairman Brian Grazer in 2021.

Most recently, Noor was a producer on the controversial Donald Trump biopic, The Apprentice, from director Ali Abbas.

The critically acclaimed film, which was theatrically released last week, stars Sebastian Stan as the younger incarnation of the divisive Donald Trump during the 1970s and 1980s.

Succession star Jeremy Strong plays Trump’s late lawyer and mentor Roy Cohn, while Oscar-nominated actress Maria Bakalova, who plays Trump’s late ex-wife Ivana Trump.

On Tuesday, Noor shared a string of snaps promoting the film on Instagram, including from a meal out with Al, Jeremy and Ali, in addition to a clip featuring Bill talking about the movie on his show.

She is also juggling her film career with motherhood, having primary physical custody of one-year-old Roman.

In March, she gushed to Vogue Arabia that parenthood is ‘the greatest blessing in my life,’ and ‘Roman has just been the greatest gift from God.’

She said her son is ‘a thousand times better than what I ever thought he would be’ and added: ‘Becoming a mom – to be honest – it’s greater than I could ever imagine.’

When did Noor Alfallah date Al Pacino?

Noor and Al were first romantically linked in April 2022,  and were said to have started dating during COVID-19 lockdown.

Sharing a 54-year age difference, Noor was 28 and Al, 81, at the time and a photo of the couple from a dinner with Jason Momoa quickly went viral.

A source told Page Six: ‘Pacino and Noor started seeing each other during the pandemic. She mostly dates very rich older men, she was with Mick Jagger for a while, and then she dated Nicholas Berggruen,’ the source said.

‘She has been with Al for some time and they get on very well. The age gap doesn’t seem to be a problem, even though he is older than her father.’

They added: ‘She moves with the wealthy jet-set crowd, and she comes from a family with money.’

Noor revealed in Vogue Arabia that they both met at a dinner party in the late 2010s and became friends.

She admitted: ‘He’s a very talented and unique person. But I had no intention of thinking like, oh, he is going to be my son’s father one day.

‘Al lives down the street from my house and we started spending every day together, playing chess and watching movies. It was like film school with Al Pacino. I guess it just became something more.’

There were reports that the couple had split in September 2022, before reps for the actor insisted: ‘They’re still together.’

Representatives for The Godfather star then confirmed that they were welcoming their first child together, just one month before she was set to give birth.

They welcomed son Roman in June 2023, making Al one of the oldest fathers in history.

Roman is his fourth child – sharing 34-year-old Julie with Jan Tarrant and 23-year-old twins Anton and Olivia with Beverly D’Angelo, who he dated from 1997 to 2003.

Soon after welcoming their son, Noor filed for custody of Roman the following September.

A Los Angeles judge ruled that Al has to pay Noor around $30,000 a month in child support for their son, according to documents obtained by Page Six.

The Scarface star was first ordered to pay her a $110,000 payment, on top of the monthly payments, as well as $13,000 for a night nurse, along with any medical bills that aren’t covered by health insurance.

He is also to make a yearly $15,000 deposit into an education fund for Roman and as part of the ruling, the pair have joint legal custody, with Noor having primary physical custody.

The pair have maintained an amicable relationship since the split, with Noor recently taking to her Instagram to promote Al’s upcoming memoir Sonny Boy and earlier this month, Al confirmed that the pair are ‘just friends’.

When asked if he’s currently in a relationship at the start of October, the actor told People: ‘No. I have friendship.’

His rep further clarified: ‘Al and Noor are very good friends, have been for years, and are co-parents to their son Roman.’

    Who are Noor Alfallah’s ex-boyfriends?

Al is not the first high-profile man Noor has dated and a source previously told Page Six that she ‘mostly dates very rich older men.’

She previously hit the headlines for enjoying a tryst with legendary rocker Mick Jagger, 81, back in October 2017.

Noor and Mick were spotting enjoying a number of romantic dates while the Rolling Stones star was in France for the band’s No Filter tour.

At the time, sources said that Mick first hooked up with the socialite in a private flat in the suburbs of Paris, with a chauffeur then taking the brunette beauty back to her hotel the following day.

They enjoyed more romantic evenings in the days that followed – including dinner at the Caviar Kaspia with the Stones’ backing crew and a private meal at La Stresa.

Noor was also in attendance when the band played the city’s U Arena and the day after the gig, the Satisfaction singer was seen arriving at his new squeeze’s hotel.

‘Mick still has his legendary charm but even the band were surprised someone as young and beautiful as Noor came to Paris to see him,’ an insider told DailyMail.com at the time.

‘They are both single and seemed to have a lot of fun together, so everyone just let them get on with it.

‘Mick is showing absolutely no sign of slowing down. He certainly had a smile on his face and famous twinkle in his eye.

‘Noor is very confident and well educated so she fitted in well at all the upmarket places they went together.’

She previously hit the headlines for enjoying a tryst with legendary rocker Mick Jagger , 81, back in October 2017 and she shared a throwback shot in April 2018 of them hugging alongside Ronnie Wood and his wife Sally

However, despite sources saying that they were 'both single' at the time, their budding romance caused quite the stir after Mick's spokesperson insisted that he was still in a relationship with Melanie Hamrick (Mick and Melanie pictured in July)

However, despite sources saying that they were ‘both single’ at the time, their budding romance caused quite the stir after Mick’s spokesperson insisted that he was still in a relationship with Melanie Hamrick – who he had been dating since 2014 and was the mother of his eighth and youngest child, Deveraux.

It’s been said that Mick and Noor got together while he was still Melanie, and stayed together long after he and Melanie broke off their relationship – through much of 2017 and 2018.

In April 2018, Noor took to Instagram to share a throwback shot that showed Mick hugging her tightly from behind as they posed alongside Ronnie Wood and his wife, Sally Humphreys.

Captioning the pic, she wrote: ‘Same time last year! Miss you guys!’

Eventually, things fizzled out between them, and while speaking to Hello! two years later, Noor – who was 22 when she dated the then-74 rock star – addressed their large age gap.

She said that despite all the negative ‘comments’ she received about it from people online, she ‘didn’t regret it’ and ‘had many great memories’ with Mick.

‘Our ages didn’t matter to me,’ she insisted. ‘The heart doesn’t know what it sees, it only knows what it feels. It was my first serious relationship, but it was a happy time for me.’

She revealed that they had been introduced at a dinner party weeks earlier, after being invited by her close friend Sally, and had managed to keep their burgeoning relationship out of the public eye until they were spotted in Paris during the tour.

Noor also previously found love with billionaire philanthropist Nicolas Burggruen, 63, after being spotted having lunch together in April 2018.

The son of an art collector and an actress, Nicolas, who previously escorted supermodel Claudia Schiffer, was schooled in Switzerland but made his fortune in America, mostly in property.

At the time of their first sighting together, sources claimed that Noor was still in a relationship with Mick.

However, by August of that year it appeared that she and Nicolas were going strong because she couldn’t stop gushing over him on social media.

She posted a picture of herself and Nicolas in honor of his birthday, wishing her ‘partner in crime’ a great day, adding: ‘So happy I get to celebrate with you.’

Throughout the summer, they were spotted jetting off on numerous romantic getaways to Capri, Italy, and Saint-Tropez, France, and continued to share PDA-filled snaps on Instagram.

In October, Noor and Nicolas were spotted at an art exhibition together in Los Angeles, and one month later, she posted a snap of herself hanging out with Nicolas and her younger brother while celebrating her birthday.

She continued to share snaps with him throughout 2019, with it being unclear when exactly the pair split, with them last being pictured publicly together in early 2020.

Rumours started to circulate that they were dating in 2018, after they both attended the same wedding reception in Malibu.

In the weeks that followed, the two were spotted on a series of dates together, and during one outing, the Noor was even photographed linking arms with the director as they put on a loved-up display on the way to a California-based restaurant.

But as the outings occurred around the same time that she was linked to Nicolas, it’s still unclear whether or not Noor and Eli ever actually dated or if they were just friends.

Another rumoured tryst of Noor’s is the legendary actor and director Clint Eastwood, 94, who she was thought to be dating in January 2019.

Speculation began when the Oscar-winning star was pictured heading off from a night out together with Noor at celeb hotspot Craig’s in West Hollywood.

Noor was seen in the backseat of Clint’s car, just day after he was spotted with her parents outside of Nobu in Malibu.

However, when asked about the rumored romance, Noor was keen to insist that Clint was just a family friend, telling DailyMail.com: ‘There is no relationship.’

‘We’re not dating. There is no relationship. We’re family friends, and my family was there and that’s it.

‘My parents were there, other friends were there. Trust me there’s no relationship.’

    Ohio State at Oregon

Something has to give Saturday in Eugene as both No. 2 Ohio State and No. 3 Oregon are 5-0 including 2-0 in Big Ten play. The Buckeye’s and Ducks are two of nine undefeated Power Four schools. The new conference foes last played in the 2024 national championship won by the Buckeyes. Oregon and Ohio State both rank in the top-25 for both rushing and passing defense. The Ducks defense will be put to the test as Ohio State has scored 20 touchdowns in 21 red zone trips this season.

Oregon QB Dillon Gabriel opened the season as the Heisman favorite, and he’s now the fifth choice at +1400 odds, or 14/1. He’s passed for 1,449 yards and 11 touchdowns and leads the country with a 77.8 completion percentage. Ohio State QB Will Howard has thrown for 1,238 yards and 12 TD’s plus 4 rushing touchdowns.

The Buckeye’s have arguably the best set of RB’s and WR’s in the country. They have played a softer schedule, but the Buckeye’s defense has dominated holding opponents to a nation-low 203 yards per game while registering 17 sacks. Ohio State buried both Michigan State (38-7) and last week Iowa (35-7) limiting the Hawkeyes to just 224 total yards offense.

Pro Football Focus rates Ohio State as college football’s top team. The Buckeye’s lead the nation in overall team expected points added (EPA) per play, in EPA allowed, and EPA per play on offense.

The most watched and wagered game is set to kickoff at 7:30 p.m. ET on NBC. Ohio State is taking more money, and Buckeyes backers have wagered more money on the spread and moneyline than any other team for Week 7 at the leading online sportsbooks.

“Even on a loaded slate like this one, the action on Ohio State-Oregon stands out from the rest of the pack,” Fanatics Sportsbook staff reports. “If you combine spread and moneyline, Ohio State-Oregon has drawn over two times more handle than any other Week 7 game.”

Oregon, along with LSU are the most popular moneyline underdog bets this week.

Geoff Schwartz, an 8-year NFL offensive lineman who played right tackle at Oregon, chimed in on X with added insight on the Ohio State-Oregon matchup.

Ohio State (+290) is currently the favorite to win the national championship with Oregon at +1000, according to national championship odds at FanDuel Sportsbook. The winner will have a leg up towards the Big Ten title and new 12-team College Football Playoff while the loser remains in the mix for the CFP.

    Penn State at USC

Another key Big Ten battle also has the road team favored with undefeated Penn State (5-0) at Southern Cal (3-2). Lincoln Riley is 41-4 at home as a head coach in his career, and now USC is a home underdog. The Trojans have played a far tougher schedule (No. 4) while the Nittany Lions SOS ranks No. 80. Bob Stoll of Dr. Bob Sports is a notable and respected handicapper who uses dozens of stats and categories in formulating models and picks.

Stoll notes that the Nittany Lions have moved the ball well on offense, averaging 7.3 yards per play against teams that would allow 6.0 yppl to an average offense. But Penn State has averaged just 24 points in two games against better than average defensive teams Illinois and UCLA, and USC’s defense (0.6 yppl better than average) rates about the same as those two defenses that held Penn State’s attack in check.

“The Nittany Lions should not be favored by 3 points or more in Los Angeles,” Stoll says.

    Texas vs. Oklahoma

The Cotton Bowl in Dallas hosts the Red River Rivalry, or Showdown between new SEC rivals Oklahoma (4-1) and Texas (5-0). Oklahoma has won four of the last five meetings including last season 34-30 as a 5-point underdog when the Sooners entered No. 12 and Texas ranked No. 3 in the country.

FanDuel Research analysts pick Oklahoma (+14.5) to cover the spread in a higher scoring game (over 49.5). Sooners freshman QB Michael Hawkins Jr. is a Dallas native and plays in his fourth game while making his second start. He’ll be without a number of OU leading receivers on the injured list. Hawkins will become the first Oklahoma quarterback to start the Red River Showdown as a true freshman. Longhorns QB Quinn Ewers returns from an oblique injury suffered Sept. 14 vs. UT San Antonio. Texas is the largest favorite in the series since 2005, which was the last time the Longhorns won the national title. Texas ranks top-5 in yards per play offense, yards per game and points per game margin.

    Ole Miss at LSU

Mixed picks on this SEC Saturday night showdown in Baton Rouge. Mississippi is No. 1 in yards per play and yards per game margin. LSU ranks No. 43 and No. 30 in those categories. However, Ole Miss is playing a 7th straight week and 3rd straight conference game while LSU is rested and ready off a bye. The Rebels and Tigers were both ranked top-20 last season as well and Ole Miss won a wild shootout over LSU, 55-49.

Dr. Bob Sports notes that LSU fits a greater than 63% ATS situation for teams coming off a win and a bye playing a conference home game and either an underdog or favorite up to 3 points. Additional parameters apply in a large sample size of more than 200 games, and LSU will catch another break if the nation’s leading receiver doesn’t play, Ole Miss senior Tre Harris (885 yards). He suffered a lower-leg injury in the first half of last week’s win over South Carolina. Harris is questionable to play, along with at least 10 other Rebels players on the injury list.

LSU’s strength has been its offense that has been 1.2 yards per play better than average (6.8 yppl against teams that would allow 5.6 yppl to an average team). Mississippi’s offense is better, as the Rebels have been 1.8 yppl better than average when they have the ball (7.9 yppl against 5 FBS teams that would allow 6.1 yppl to an average team.

Dr. Bob has a strong Opinion on Ole Miss noting the math model, but the strong situation favors LSU.

Playbook Sports adds an awesome angle that is 15-2 ATS favoring Oregon as a home underdog from game 6 forward if both teams own a 1.000 winning percentage and if the home ‘Dog scored 16 or more points in its last win.

No team plays a tougher 4-game stretch than LSU, who battles Ole Miss and then two road games at Arkansas and Texas A&M before a bye week to tackle Alabama.

Next week’s notable Top 25 games include:

    • Georgia at Texas (-2.5)
    • Alabama at Tennessee (-2.5)
    • Michigan (-1.5) at Illinois
    • Nebraska at Indiana (-4.5)

More big game betting action ahead as college football’s biggest games draw the most watch and wager action.

bet365 bonus code POSTNEWS best bet for Jaguars vs. Texans

I’m backing the Jaguars to cover the spread against the Texans, with a potential for an outright win in a critical divisional matchup.

Both teams are coming off crushing defeats — Houston lost 34-7 to the Vikings, while Jacksonville was demolished 47-10 by the Bills.

The Jaguars looked awful in Buffalo, with Trevor Lawrence clearly struggling. The defense was off a beat, too, but they’ve shown the ability to slow down offenses, allowing the 8th-fewest yards per carry.

Meanwhile, the Texans have had a shaky start, relying on narrow victories and failing to dominate offensively, with CJ Stroud yet to hit his stride.

Given the inflated spread following their Week 3 loss, now is a prime opportunity to back Jacksonville, who should be motivated in this divisional clash.

bet365 bonus code POST NEWS best bet: Jaguars +7

bet365 bonus code best bet for Friday

One of the top betting angles this week is Friday night’s matchup between Washington State and San Jose State. The Cougars are coming off a thrilling underdog victory in the Apple Cup against in-state rival Washington, a game that went down to the wire.

Now, they return home to face a mid-tier Mountain West opponent, sandwiched between their emotional win and a tough road game at Boise State next week. This sets up a potential letdown spot for Washington State and San Jose State may be primed to capitalize.

The Spartans have quietly exceeded expectations, boasting a 3-0 record both straight-up and against the spread. Quarterback Emmett Brown has led an impressive offense, racking up nearly 1,000 passing yards and nine touchdowns through three games.

    Betting on College Football?

Wide receiver Nick Nash, who is arguably one of the best players in the Group of 5, has already tallied six touchdowns this season, including a standout 17-catch performance against Kennesaw State.

On the other side, Washington State is also 3-0 but has shown some cracks despite its hot start. While quarterback John Mateer has been solid, the Cougars were outgained in their win over Washington and benefited from turnover luck in their victory against Texas Tech. Their struggles in key areas—ranking 85th in offensive success rate and 76th in defensive success rate—could spell trouble in this matchup.

Given the potential for a slow start and San Jose State’s offensive firepower, this game could be closer than expected. The Spartans are likely to hang around, especially if Nick Nash continues his dominance.

    Pick: San Jose State +12

‘Phenomenal’ US fast food chain unveils new menu items — including burger fans begged for

Popeyes is launching new menu items, including a twist on a classic. (Picture: Popeyes)

If there’s one thing that fast food lovers really want, it’s a good condiment to go with their burger and fries — be it mayo, ketchup, ranch, or something a little more spicy.

And it seems one fast food chain is giving its customers exactly what they’ve been asking for, adding a brand new range to its menu in the UK inspired by one of their best-selling dips.

Louisiana fried chicken brand Popeyes, which has previously been hailed as ‘phenomenal’ and ‘better than McDonald’s’, is launching a new Hot Honey range, after fans demanded more of the sauce on the menu.

Joining the line-up in restaurants and for takeaway from today, there’s a twist on the chain’s most famous product, the chicken sandwich, as well as two other items.

There’s a new Hot Honey range, including a Hot Honey Chicken Sandwich. (Picture: Popeyes)
It costs £6.99. (Picture: Courtney Pochin)

Like the others versions, the Hot Honey Chicken Sandwich (£6.99) features the shatter crunch chicken breast in a brioche bun, but is drizzled in hot honey sauce, then topped with smoked cheese and pickles.

There’s also new Hot Honey Saucin’ Wings (from £5.99), which Popeyes say are ‘a must-try for fans looking to spice up their order’. These crispy chicken wings are slathered in the house-developed hot honey sauce that ‘packs a punch’.

And for those wanting a bigger meal, you can now opt for the Hot Honey Box Meal, which features the sandwich, regular fries, a regular drink, and then your choice of either two chicken tenders, three hot wings, or one-piece signature chicken for £10.99.

Dave Hoskins, head of food at Popeyes, said: ‘After seeing the love from our fans for our best-selling Hot Honey dip, we thought it was only right that we take it one step further and launch a range of new products dedicated to the flavour.

The hot honey dip is a best-seller. (Picture: LAURENCEHOWE.COM)

‘Designed to get taste buds poppin’ by combining the texture of our famous Shatter Crunchin’ chicken with sticky and sweet Hot Honey, we’re proud to be the first and only quick service restaurant in the UK to launch a Chicken Sandwich and Saucin’ Wings that pays homage to this delicious flavour trend.’

He added: We’re constantly inspired by our origins in New Orleans, and Hot Honey certainly comes with that sweet Southern kick.’

It’s not been confirmed how long exactly the new items will be on the menu for, but they are all limited-edition, so they won’t be sticking around forever. Those wanting to give them a try should be quick to do so before they’re gone.

Is the new Hot Honey range at Popeyes worth a try?

Metro.co.uk got an exclusive early taste of the new items and were impressed with the sweet and saucy range.

Platform editor, Jess Austin, thought the chicken sandwich was ‘amazing’, and declared herself officially a Popeyes convert because of it.

Similarly, Lifestyle writer Eleanor Noyce was also a big fan, describing the hot honey sauce as ‘sweet, tangy and crispy.’

Metro’s resident specialst food writer, Courtney Pochin, enjoyed it immensely, but didn’t really think it was a necessary addition to the menu.

She said: ‘Popeyes is my go-to fast food chain and while this new twist on the chicken sandwich is undeniably yummy, and has a nice warm kick, it’s got nothing on the OG version.

‘The classic is a classic for a reason, you just can’t beat it.’

This new launch comes after another popular US chain unveiled their latest menu changes.

US coffee and doughnut chain, Dunkin’ currently has 28 locations across the UK and is said to be working on an ‘aggressive extension plan’ that will double its number of shops by 2025.

Known as Dunkin’ AF (All Fall), the new autumnal menu features coffee icons such as the Pumpkin Spiced Latte which is a fan-favourite, and a brand new Matcha Pistachio Latte, both of which are available hot or iced.

The latter is described as a ‘deliciously creamy blend’ that will ‘make your taste buds dance with delight’. Dunkin’ adds: ‘It’s a totally new, totally green, and totally delicious drink that’s as good for your Instagram feed as it is for your taste buds. Trust us, this one’s going to be a game-changer.’

As well as the drinks, there are also three seasonal doughnuts (or donuts as Dunkin’ would say…) including a Candy Apple, Pumpkin Spiced Ring, and Chocolate and Pistachio Pie, which is a twist on the chain’s best-selling Hazelnut Pie option.

Another raft of sporting stars will test their game on one of England’s finest courses with another star-studded line-up revealed for the BMW PGA Championship pro-am at Wentworth.

The annual event is the curtain-raiser for the DP World Tour tournament that follows, with top pros grouped alongside some of the world’s most famous names.

Among the star attractions this year will be Andy Murray as the three-time grand slam champion swaps sports after his retirement from professional tennis.

The 37-year-old will play alongside fellow Scot Bob MacIntyre in a group that includes another recent retiree in James Anderson, England’s leading Test match wicket-taker.

Murray will play off a handicap of 7 and Anderson an impressive 1.8 — though the pair are out-shined by Anton du Beke’s handicap of 1. Du Beke partnered Murray’s mother, Judy, on Strictly Come Dancing in 2014.

Scratch golfer Gareth Bale is in Rory McIlroy’s group alongside Stuart Broad (6.4), Anderson’s long-time opening partner, while Ben Stokes (3.6) is grouped with Luke Donald as two successful captains play alongside one another.

Three of Team GB’s double gold medal-winning 4x200m men’s freestyle quartet are set to compete: Duncan Scott (13), James Guy (10.5) and Tom Dean (18).

Saracens and England rugby players Jamie George (9.8) and Ben Earl (5) are regular playing partners and will join Irish Open winner Rasmus Hojgaard and England cricketer Ollie Pope in a talented four ball.

MacIntyre noted his excitement at getting the chance to play alongside Murray.

“Andy is a hero to so many people in Scotland – and across the world – and it’s pretty exciting to be playing alongside him in his BMW PGA Championship debut,” the Scottish Open winner said.

“He’s been absolutely dedicated to tennis during his incredible career, but it looks like he’s been playing plenty of golf since his retirement, so I’m looking forward to seeing if all that practice has paid off!”

Meta oversight panel says political content cuts could limit dissent in crises including Venezuela’s

MEXICO CITY — Meta’s efforts to scale back political content on its platforms could limit the reach of people’s expressions of dissent or awareness during crises, including Venezuela’s post-election situation, the company’s oversight panel said Thursday in a decision on cases involving videos taken after the July vote in the South American country.

The quasi-independent Oversight Board urged the social media giant to apply an existing protocol for crisis situations “to ensure that political content during crises can have the same reach as other types of content.”

The decision came as Meta clamps down on the amount of news and political content users see following years of criticism about how it handles misinformation and whether it contributes to political polarization.

Meta set up the board in 2020 to be a referee for content on its platforms, including Facebook and Instagram. The company referred to the board two videos related to pro-government armed groups, known in Venezuela as “colectivos,” that were posted after the July 28 presidential election, whose official result prompted protests across the country.

One of the videos, posted to Instagram, shows a group of armed men on motorcycles pulling up to an apartment complex. A woman can be heard shouting in Spanish that the “colectivos” were trying to access a building, while the person taking the video can be heard yelling in the same language “Go to hell! I hope they kill you all!”

Meta determined the video did not violate its policies because “the expression was a conditional or aspirational statement against a violent actor rather than a call to action,” according to the decision. The board agreed with the company.

The other video reviewed by the Oversight Board was posted on Facebook. It shows people running and a group of men, presumed to be “colectivos” riding motorcycles. The man who filmed the video can be heard saying the group is attacking the people on the street. The caption in Spanish accompanying the post criticizes the government’s security forces for not defending people from the violent, ruling-party loyal gangs and calls on the state’s forces to “kill those damn colectivos.”

Meta took down the video for representing “a call to action to commit high-severity violence,” according to the decision. The board disagreed, finding that it is similar to the Instagram post and, in Venezuela’s current context, “understood as an aspirational statement.”

“The Board acknowledges Meta’s concern that allowing this type of expression could contribute to a heightened risk of offline violence in an ongoing crisis,” according to the decision. “However, given the specific context of Venezuela, in which widespread repression and violence is carried out by state forces jointly with colectivos, and where there are strong restrictions on people’s rights to freedom of expression and peaceful assembly, it is fundamental to allow people to freely express their dissent, anger or desperation, even resorting to strong language.”

Thousands of people, including minors, took to the streets across Venezuela hours after ruling party-loyal electoral authorities declared President Nicolás Maduro the winner of the July 28 election. The protests were largely peaceful, but demonstrators also toppled statues of Maduro’s predecessor, the late leader Hugo Chávez, threw rocks at law enforcement officers and buildings, and burned police motorcycles and government propaganda.

Maduro and his ruling party allies, who control all aspects of government, responded to the demonstrations with full force. A Wednesday report from Human Rights Watch implicated Venezuelan security forces and “colectivos” in some of the 24 deaths that occurred during the protests.

While the National Electoral Council declared Maduro’s victory, it never released vote tallies backing their claim. However, the main opposition coalition claimed that its candidate, former diplomat Edmundo González, defeated Maduro by a 2-to-1 margin and offered as proof vote tallies from more than 80% of the electronic voting machines used in the election.

Meta, then called Facebook, launched the Oversight Board four years ago in response to criticism that it was not moving fast enough to remove misinformation, hate speech and influence campaigns from its platforms. The board has 21 members, a multinational group that includes legal scholars, human rights experts and journalists.
