If you’re looking for ways to add jaggery to your winter diet, jaggery tea is a great option. Not only does it have a warming effect, but it also helps relieve cold and cough. Packed with minerals like iron, phosphorus, magnesium, and zinc, jaggery also boosts your immune system and improves digestion. It’s no surprise that people swear by it in winter! However, making perfect jaggery tea can be tricky for some. Ever tried it and noticed your tea curdling? No worries! There are a few tips that’ll make sure your jaggery tea turns out just right, every time. Keep reading!

    Tips To Make Jaggery Tea

    1. Get The Right Measurements

Before you start, think about how many cups of tea you need to make. For the perfect cup of tea, the measurements are simple: one cup of water to one cup of milk.

    2. Follow The Right Cooking Process

Start by adding one cup of water to a pan, then throw in 1 small cardamom, some crushed ginger (to your taste), and a few basil leaves. Once it starts to boil, add the tea leaves and let it cook for a bit. Now, add jaggery to taste and let it dissolve fully.

    3. Always Use Hot Milk

Heat the milk separately in another pan. Once it’s hot, add it to the tea mixture. The key here is to always use hot or boiled milk when making jaggery tea. This prevents your tea from curdling.

    4. Never Use Cold Milk

The most common reason for jaggery tea curdling is mixing in cold milk. Cold milk and jaggery don’t mix well, so always use milk that’s already hot or boiled.

    5. Don’t Over-Boil It

Once you add the milk to the tea, don’t let it boil for too long. Turn off the gas as soon as it starts to boil lightly. Also, never add jaggery and milk at the same time; doing this can cause the tea to curdle too.

Now that you know how to make the perfect jaggery tea, go ahead and enjoy a warm cup of it this winter. It’s the perfect way to stay cosy!

Here Are 3 Easy Tips To Store Jaggery:

    1. Use a Zip Lock Bag

Ziplock bags are your BFF when it comes to keeping jaggery fresh. Before storing, wrap the jaggery in a paper towel and then pop it into the bag. Here’s the key: make sure there’s no air trapped inside. Press out all the air, seal it tight, and you’re good to go. If you don’t have a zip lock bag, a regular plastic bag works too-just be extra careful about sealing it.

    2. Store in The Fridge

Skip the countertop and keep your jaggery in the fridge. Pro tip: ditch the plastic containers and use steel ones instead. Steel helps preserve both the taste and colour of jaggery better than plastic ever could.

    3. Add Bay Leaves to the Container

Want to keep jaggery fresh and bug-free? Toss a few bay leaves into the container. Bay leaves have natural antibacterial properties that keep fungus and insects at bay. Just remember to swap them out every now and then for best results.

If you’ve never tried making jaggery paratha at home, don’t worry-we’ve got you covered with easy tips to help you nail it on your first try!

Here Are Tips To Make The Perfect Jaggery Paratha:

    1. Prepare the Dough

For the perfect jaggery paratha, the dough needs to be soft and smooth. Add a pinch of salt and a bit of ghee while kneading to keep it soft. Trust us, using ghee is the secret to getting that perfect texture! If you use hard flour, it’ll be tough to roll out the paratha, so make sure to pick good flour.

    2. Use Lukewarm Water

When kneading the dough, always use lukewarm water. It makes the dough soft and easy to work with, giving you a smooth paratha every time.

    3. Let the Dough Rest

Once your dough is ready, let it rest for at least 30 minutes. This step is key! It helps the dough get more elastic, making it way easier to roll out without cracks. Also, apply some ghee to the dough while it rests to keep it nice and soft.

    4. Make the Filling

Crush the jaggery completely with your hands, making sure there are no chunks. For an extra boost of flavour, add a pinch of cardamom powder, a handful of sesame seeds, or some coarsely ground almonds. These little additions make the filling more nutritious and give it that perfect, aromatic kick.

Watch: Vlogger Shows How She Made Jaggery From Sugarcane, Impresses Internet

Have you ever wondered how sugarcane is turned into the commonly used sugar and jaggery? A viral video making the rounds online shows us a simple step-by-step process for making a form of jaggery from scratch. In the reel shared by @lucymakes_, the vlogger first cuts and peels the sugarcane with the help of another person. She juices the pieces using a large juicer. Once complete, she strains the liquid and collects it in a large container. Next, she places a kadhai-like vessel over a fire at an outdoor grilltop. She carefully pours the strained juice into the vessel and lightly stirs it with a spatula.

She cooks the juice in this way for some time until it thickens. She explains that one has to bring the sugar water to a boil over medium-high heat and keep mixing it. Once you take it off the heat, mix the thick syrup until all of the bubbles are gone, she instructs. Once this is done, she pours it out onto a flat surface and allows it to cool. Later, she is later seen pulling and separating the dried sugar with her hands. It seems to have a distinctive texture, which she compares to wood. Once you manage to get the smaller pieces, she clarifies that you can dissolve them in liquid when you want to use them. You can also grind it to get a fine powder consistency. The vlogger states that this sugar can be used to make treats like brown sugar boba or “the best Chocolate Chip cookies you’ll ever have”.

In the caption, the vlogger clarified that she has actually made jaggery. She wrote, “There are a ton of different ways to do this, this is just the way I did it with the tools I already had. And since we aren’t removing the molasses from this sugar, or crystallizing it, we are actually making a traditional form of sugar called jaggery or gur. It’s a very common ingredient used in cooking around the world, especially in India and many other South Asian countries. If you’re wondering why it’s brown, it’s because it contains a decent amount of molasses (molasses comes from sugar cane). In order to make crystallized white sugar you need to use a centrifuge to remove the molasses, which I definitely want to try sometime.”

The comments section was filled with curious questions and remarks of praise. Several users were impressed by the process and efforts of the vlogger. Read some of the reactions below:

“Wow!! I’ve never seen this process, how amazing!”

“Wooowwwww, I would love to get to this level of cooking.”

“I’ll end up drinking all that sugar cane juice just in a moment. I can’t pass a day without it in summer days.”

    “This looks so good!”

“Omg, I remember when I was a kid. I used to chew on it. It was the best thing better than any candy in the world.”

“This is very cool. It’s always fascinating to see common mass-produced products homemade in a small batch.”

“I feel like this must have been a more softer form of sugarcane the kind that is more popular to be eaten! Woooww u did.suuuch a great job!!”
