New Delhi: Sultan of Brunei Haji Hassanal Bolkiah is set to welcome Prime Minister Narendra Modi who will arrive in the Southeast Asian nation today, marking the first-ever visit by an Indian PM to the country. PM Modi embarked on a visit to Brunei this afternoon. He is on a two-nation visit Brunei and Singapore – from September 3-5.

As we celebrate the 40 years of our diplomatic relations, I look forward to my meetings with His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah and other esteemed members of the Royal family to advance our historical relationship to new heights,” he said in his departure statement issued by the Ministry of External Affairs.

Hassanal Bolkiah, known for his luxurious lifestyle and enormous wealth, is the second-longest reigning monarch in the world, after UK’s Queen Elizabeth II. The Sultan of Brunei is said to have a net worth of $30 billion and he flaunts notable private car collection valued at an estimated $5 billion. He owns over 7,000 luxurious vehicles. Among the collection are approximately 600 Rolls-Royce cars, 450 Ferraris, and 380 Bentleys, as reported by The Sun. He also has several other high-end cars including Jaguars, Maybachs, Porsches, Lamborghinis, BMWs, and McLarens, according to automotive sources, including CarBuzz and The South China Morning Post.
A Bentley Dominator, the world’s most opulent SUV worth approximately $80 million, a 24-carat gold-plated Rolls-Royce Silver Spur II valued at a mind boggling $14 million and a Porsche 911 with Horizon Blue paint and an X88 power package are among most expensive and rare cars owned by Hassanal Bolkiah. His fleet of ultra-luxury cars also include a custom-designed Rolls-Royce with an open roof and an umbrella and Ferrari Testarossa F90 Speciale.

Besides the lavish car collection, the Sultan also owns several private jets. His Boeing 747-400, nicknamed the “flying palace”, is embellished with gold and Lalique crystal.

World’s largest residential palace
Like all other things in the Sultan’s life, his home too is the epitome of opulence. The Sultan and his family reside in Istana Nurul Iman, the world’s largest residential palace, which houses 1,700 rooms, five swimming pools and 257 bathrooms. The palace holds the Guinness World Record for being the largest residential palace in the world. As per the Guinness World Records, the Istana Nurul Iman Palace, built in 1984, is the largest residential palace in the world, covering an exorbitant area of 200,000 square metres. The Sultan also owns a private zoo, housing 30 Bengal tigers and various bird species.
