ST. CHARLES, MO. – The Lindenwood University College of Arts and Hummanities Departments of Media, Communications and Cinema, as well as Art, Production, and Design (which includes KCLC and Mane Media Productions) have produced some notable voices that are heard across the country. During the Lions football game on September 21st, seven of these individuals will return to the Lindenwood campus to make history as it will be the first time the group has come together to call a game. The list of alumni includes Bob Ramsey, Randy Karraker, Greg Amsinger, Alex Ferrario, Glen Cerny, David Amelotti, and Jim Heuer. The game can be seen on ESPN+.
“We are all extremely excited to get together to showcase the great broadcasting talent produced at Lindenwood University,” said Ramsey. “We hope that current and future students will gain inspiration from this broadcast and see what opportunities this great university can provide for real experience and real success.”
Glen Cerny graduated from Lindenwood in 1974 and served as the first full-time general manager of KCLC and was an Associate Professor of Mass Communication from 1988-2001. The team celebrated 75 years of excellence at KCLC in 2023. Cerny, was a member of the original men’s basketball team in 1970-71 and played through the 1972-73 season. KCLC excelled under Cerny, including its sports broadcasting department. Cerny trained numerous students who entered the sports field and was a significant influence on all the broadcasters involved with this game. Cerny also assisted the athletic department as the Faculty Athletic Representative from 1994-2001. He was on the Heart of America Athletic Conference Eligibility Committee from 1998-2001 and served as the chair from 2000-2001.
Ramsey, a 1978 graduate of Lindenwood University, returned to St. Charles, Mo. to lead the broadcast team for the third NCAA Division I season. His career was built on the foundation forged at KCLC, a true example of the real experience leading to real success at Lindenwood. Ramsey won two Emmys while working for KPLR TV in St. Louis, Mo. The five-time Missouri Broadcaster of the Year has called games for the St. Louis Cardinals, the St. Louis Ambush, and spent four years as the voice of Louisiana Tech men’s basketball. Ramsey has been inducted into the Halls of Fame at Lindenwood University, Saint Louis University, Pattonville High School, and Missouri Amateur Baseball.
Karraker graduated from Lindenwood University in 1984 with a degree in communications. Since that time, Karraker has built a career as a premiere sports voice within the St. Louis region. Karraker has become synonymous with St. Louis sports in roles that include everything from talk radio host on 101 ESPN to play-by-play broadcaster on the most recognizable networks in the area. Karraker’s success has helped to blaze a continuous trail for countless sports personalities and on-air talent who have attended Lindenwood University. Karraker continues his involvement at Lindenwood University in a variety of ways that include time spent as a charter member of the President’s Council, and as the emcee of numerous athletics events, including several Hall of Fame Induction Ceremonies.
Amsinger is the lead host of MLB Network. Prior to his time there, Amsinger worked at CBS, where he served as the primary host for their College Sports coverage, including Inside College Football and NCAA Basketball coverage. It was announced recently that Amsinger is going to be hosting the remainder of regular season coverage and all postseason coverage on TBS, working on programs such as MLB Leadoff and MLB Closer.
Amelotti earned a BA in Mass Communications: Emphasis in Radio and Television from Lindenwood University. As a student, Amelotti did play-by-play and color work, covering Lindenwood Men’s and Women’s basketball, baseball, softball, gymnastics. He also spent time at LUTV, the student television station where he got the news bug where he developed the foundation of his storytelling and news sense. David is an Edward R. Murrow award-winning anchor and reporter at KMOV. He currently anchors the station’s hour-long 4PM newscast.
During his time at Lindenwood, Ferrario became the “Voice of the Lions” for football, basketball, hockey and other athletics throughout his four years. He spent all his free time in the radio station or working in the television studio, coming up with various sports shows. Currently, Ferrario is the co-host of BK and Ferrario on101 ESPN. He also leads pre- and post-game coverage of St. Louis Blues games for the station.
Heuer graduated from Lindenwood in 1998 with a bachelor’s in mass communications. Most recently, Heuer was the Director of Operations at 590 The Fan. He ran the St. Louis Blues and St. Louis Cardinals radio broadcasts for 5 years each and was the first traveling radio engineer ever with a National Hockey League team. Heuer was also the play-by-play voice of St. Louis FC.
