    There is no love lost between the Packers and Lions.

    After another highly competitive NFC North battle that saw Detroit take an emotional 34-31 win on “Thursday Night Football,” Lions cornerback Amik Robertson rubbed more salt in the wound for the Cheese Heads.

    “They try to be competitive, but you can tell they’re not competitive,” Robertson told reporters after the game. “We the real dawgs. When we go out there, we hunting, we ain’t the hunted. I know the real them. Great team, man, but I feel like it’s a lot of pretenders.”

    Robertson’s comments come shortly after coach Dan Campbell had a fiery postgame speech where he handed out game balls to kicker Jake Bates and receiver Tim Patrick, who caught his first touchdown in over 1,082 days on Thursday.

    “We don’t talk about how tough we are. We don’t talk about how resilient we are. We live it, man. We’ve been living it,” Campbell screamed in the locker room.

    Robertson, a slot corner, played just 17 snaps against the Packers and didn’t have a presence on the box score, accumulating zero tackles or passes defended but didn’t heed his coach’s advice about not talking tough.

    Robertson was targeted once in coverage but the pass fell incomplete.

    Things in Detroit were contentious from the start, with Packers coach Matt LaFleur going face-to face with a fan who was on the field pregame for the national anthem.

    LaFleur angrily walked towards the fan, barking, “Shut the f–k up,” before being separated and eventually going for a second round.

    After the game, LaFleur called out Ford Field’s security and the fan’s behavior.

    “I thought it was pretty unsportsmanlike. I’ve never seen that. I’ve been on many fields. Usually, they police that much better,” LaFleur said. “I thought it was an arrogant fan that wanted to get in part of the action. I would like to see security or something step in there and get him out of there. Because he shouldn’t be doing that.”

    LaFleur also appeared upset at the referees after the Lions were not called for offensive pass interference as the Packers were on a touchdown.

    Campbell’s squad ran down the field and went for it on fourth down to seal the game and kick the game-winning field.

    Detroit, 12-1, is now in pole position to win the division and earn a first round bye in the NFC playoff bracket.

    Four East Texas A&M Lions earn all-conference honors in football | Local Sports

    Four East Texas A&M University football players were named to the All-Southland Conference Football Team.

    Heading the list for the Lions was linebacker Brandon Tucker, Jr., who is a 5-10, 225-pound sophomore from DeSoto.

    Tucker earned the Southland’s Defensive Player of the Year award after setting a school record with 141 tackles this season. He led the conference in tackles for a loss with 15. He also forced two fumbles and recovered two fumbles.

    Tucker, also named to the first-team defense, is one of 35 finalists for the Buck Buchanan Award given to the top defensive player in FCS.

    Lion defensive back Max Epps, who is a 5-11, 182-pound senior from Spring Dekaney, also earned first-team honors for the second straight season.

    Epps, who has earned all-America honors in the past, recorded 76 tackles, intercepted two passes, broke up seven passes, forced one fumble and recovered one fumble.

    ETAMU wide receiver Christian Jourdain, a 6-0, 175-pound senior from New Orleans, made the second-team offense. He led the Lion receivers with 51 catches for 683 yards and six touchdowns.

    ETAMU defense back Jaden Rios, a 6-0, 172-pound junior from Frisco Lone Star, made the second defense. Rios  recorded 30 tackles, intercepted three passes and broke up six passes for the 3-8 Lions, who won two of their last three games.

    Incarnate Word quarterback Zach Calzada, who has passed for 3,351 yards and 33 TDs, earned the conference’s Player of the Year award after leading the 10-2 Cardinals to the conference championship and a playoff berth.

    UNIVERSITY PARK – The Penn State women’s soccer program secured an at-large selection in the 2024 NCAA Division I Women’s Soccer Championships on Monday evening, the 30th consecutive selection for the Nittany Lions since their inaugural appearance in the program’s second varsity campaign back in 1995. The Blue & White extended the second-longest national postseason streak in women’s college soccer following Monday evening’s release from the tournament’s selection committee.

    Penn State was selected as the No. 4 seed in the Tallahassee regional, the 18th seeded selection in program history. Penn State (12-6-3) welcomes the Colonial Athletic Conference Champion Stony Brook Seawolves (14-3-3) to Jeffrey Field on Saturday, November 16, at 6 p.m. (ET). Ticketing information will be released as it becomes available. PSU will host its 13th opening-round match in the past 14 seasons, with the only exception coming during the COVID-maligned 2020-21 campaign that was played solely at neutral venues.

    The Nittany Lions boast one of the strongest resumes in the 2024 NCAA Tournament field, coming in at the No. 8 position in the organization’s ratings percentage index (RPI) while notching the toughest strength of schedule in Division I women’s soccer. PSU compiled a 12-6-3 overall record in the 2024 campaign highlighted by a pair of nationally ranked victories against Texas Tech and Saint Louis, as well as a Big Ten Tournament First Round victory over the tournament host Minnesota Golden Gophers on Friday, November 1. Penn State’s 2024 campaign featured a 5-4-2 finish in Big Ten Conference competition, with the Nittany Lions earning a B1G Tournament postseason berth for the 29th time, the only program in Big Ten history to reach all 29 women’s soccer tournaments.

    On an individual basis, Penn State is led by a trio of All-Big Ten Conference honorees with First Team selection Kaitlyn MacBean headlining the group. MacBean, a native of Excelsior, Minnesota, has guaranteed her place at the top of the national conversation in terms of offensive production, with the veteran Nittany Lion striker ranking inside the top 10 nationally in terms of both total goals and match-winning goals. MacBean stands as the scoring leader on the Nittany Lions’ 31st varsity roster, accumulating 29 total points split between 14 goals and a lone assist earlier in the year. She is joined by a pair of Second Team All-B1G selections in senior midfielder Jordan Fusco, as well as veteran senior defender Mieke Schiemann.

    Penn State stands as the fifth-highest seeded representative from the Big Ten Conference and joins USC (No. 1 – Los Angeles), UCLA (No. 2 – Durham), Iowa (No. 3 – Durham), Ohio State (No. 3 – Los Angeles), Michigan State (No. 5 – Durham), Wisconsin (No. 5 – Los Angeles), Minnesota (No. 6 – Tallahassee), Rutgers (No. 6 – Starkville) and Washington (No. 9 – Starkville). The Big Ten is tied for the highest number of national postseason representatives from the 30 Division I conferences, joining the Southeastern Conference’s 10 selections overall. The Atlantic Coast Conference booked nine total selections as well as two national No. 1 seeds, with the Big 12 Conference rounding out the Power Four with seven bids.

    In total, Penn State played 13 different NCAA Tournament teams over the course of the 2024 campaign, logging 15 matches against those opponents in that timespan. Defending national champion Florida State garnered a No. 1 seed, while the Duke Blue Devils earned the national No. 1 overall seed. Big Ten rival USC and SEC challenger Mississippi State rounded out the remaining top seeds in their respective regions. Each of the four No. 1 seeds will have the opportunity to host in every round pending advancement until the Women’s College Cup, which will be played at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, North Carolina, beginning on Dec. 6 and concluding on Dec. 9.

    Lions stun Texans on 52-yard field goal in final seconds

    Jake Bates hit a 52-yard field goal as time expired Sunday to help the Detroit Lions beat the Houston Texans 26-23 for their seventh straight win.

    The Lions scored the final 19 points of the game after having trailed 23-7 at halftime. Detroit overcame a chaotic performance by quarterback Jared Goff, who threw five interceptions in the win. Goff is just the third quarterback since 1990 to win a game while throwing five interceptions.

    C.J. Stroud threw two interceptions of his own for the Texans, and he was also sacked four times.

    Goff was picked off on the Lions’ first drive, and Houston responded by scoring a touchdown eight plays later. After a Detroit three-and-out, the Texans added to their lead with a field goal.

    The Lions briefly appeared to settle down offensively with an 11-play, 70-yard drive to cut the score to 10-7. But their final four drives of the first half were an interception, a three-and-out, a three-and-out and then one more interception on a Hail Mary attempt.

    In that time, Houston added two more field goals and a touchdown. The Texans’ final touchdown was a 15-yard reception by John Metchie, his first career score.

    The second half started with the quarterbacks trading interceptions. After a Houston punt, Detroit finally worked down the field for a touchdown to cut the score to 23-13. But then the game ground to a halt. The quarterbacks traded interceptions for a second time before the offenses combined for three straight punts.

    The Lions finally restored order with a seven-play, 64-yard drive for a touchdown to make the score 23-20. After another seven-play drive by Detroit to tie the game, Houston had a chance to win late. Stroud led the Texans to the 40-yard line, but Ka’imi Fairbairn missed a 58-yard field goal that would have given Houston the lead.

    The Lions took advantage of the short field, setting up Bates’ game-winner in a few plays.

    Detroit improved to 8-1, remaining in first place in the NFC. The Lions will return home to play the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 11.

    Houston fell to 6-4 with its third defeat in four games. The Texans play the Dallas Cowboys on Nov. 18.

    Metchie was selected in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft, but missed the entire 2022 season after he was diagnosed with acute promyelocytic leukemia. He played in 16 games for Houston last season, catching 16 passes.

    Metchie entered Sunday with four catches for 36 yards in six games. In the first half alone against the Lions, Metchie had four catches for 65 yards — and his first career touchdown.

    Lions stun Texans on 52-yard field goal in final seconds

    Jake Bates hit a 52-yard field goal as time expired Sunday to help the Detroit Lions beat the Houston Texans 26-23 for their seventh straight win.

    The Lions scored the final 19 points of the game after having trailed 23-7 at halftime. Detroit overcame a chaotic performance by quarterback Jared Goff, who threw five interceptions in the win. Goff is just the third quarterback since 1990 to win a game while throwing five interceptions.

    C.J. Stroud threw two interceptions of his own for the Texans, and he was also sacked four times.

    Goff was picked off on the Lions’ first drive, and Houston responded by scoring a touchdown eight plays later. After a Detroit three-and-out, the Texans added to their lead with a field goal.

    The Lions briefly appeared to settle down offensively with an 11-play, 70-yard drive to cut the score to 10-7. But their final four drives of the first half were an interception, a three-and-out, a three-and-out and then one more interception on a Hail Mary attempt.

    In that time, Houston added two more field goals and a touchdown. The Texans’ final touchdown was a 15-yard reception by John Metchie, his first career score.

    The second half started with the quarterbacks trading interceptions. After a Houston punt, Detroit finally worked down the field for a touchdown to cut the score to 23-13. But then the game ground to a halt. The quarterbacks traded interceptions for a second time before the offenses combined for three straight punts.

    The Lions finally restored order with a seven-play, 64-yard drive for a touchdown to make the score 23-20. After another seven-play drive by Detroit to tie the game, Houston had a chance to win late. Stroud led the Texans to the 40-yard line, but Ka’imi Fairbairn missed a 58-yard field goal that would have given Houston the lead.

    The Lions took advantage of the short field, setting up Bates’ game-winner in a few plays.

    Detroit improved to 8-1, remaining in first place in the NFC. The Lions will return home to play the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 11.

    Houston fell to 6-4 with its third defeat in four games. The Texans play the Dallas Cowboys on Nov. 18.

    With his 15-yard touchdown reception in the second quarter, Texans receiver John Metchie caught the first score of his NFL career.

    Metchie was selected in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft, but missed the entire 2022 season after he was diagnosed with acute promyelocytic leukemia. He played in 16 games for Houston last season, catching 16 passes.

    Metchie entered Sunday with four catches for 36 yards in six games. In the first half alone against the Lions, Metchie had four catches for 65 yards — and his first career touchdown.

    Monday Night Football Week 4: Titans at Dolphins, Seahawks at Lions – how to watch, game time, TV channel, streaming

    Week 4 brings us another doubl-header for Monday Night Football. First the Miami Dolphins will take on the Tennessee Titans, then the Detroit Lions will host the Seattle Seahawks in a potential playoff preview.

    The earlier game tonight features the Miami Dolphins hosting the Tennessee Titans. The Titans have been spinning their wheels over the last couple years, and while they have some good pieces they’re still looking for their first win. The Dolphins, meanwhile, are adrift at sea following yet another scary concussion for Tua Tagovailoa. Miami was supposed to be a contender in the AFC this year, but are now trying to make due with Skylar Thompson and Tim Boyle at quarterback.

    This game takes on added significance given the devastation from Hurricane Helene earlier this week.

    The Dolphins enter the game as 2.5-point favorites at home.

    The later game will be between the Detroit Lions and Seattle Seahawks. These two teams are remarkably similar. Not only have they executed shocking turnarounds over the last three years, they feature two of the biggest QB renaissances in the NFL with Jared Goff and Geno Smith. Just three years ago, both quarterbacks were considered disappointments and bridges for teams bound for high draft picks. Now, they’re orchestrating high-powered offenses and leading two teams that nobody wants to see come to town.

    The Lions are 3.5-point favorites at home.

    Dolphins vs. Titans: I wouldn’t have a ton of faith in either one of these teams. But if I’m going to make a pick, I suppose I’ll take the Dolphins at home. They still have a ton of speed on offense, if if they’re held back by some major questions at quarterback.

    Lions vs. Seahawks: This is a tough one, but I think I’m going with the Lions at home. The Lions are a tough, physical team that can compete with anyone in the NFL. And while the Seahawks’ defense is doing it’s best “Legion of Boom” impression, their defensive front has been hit very hard by injury. They’re getting Kenneth Walker back, but I don’t know if their offense will be able to do enough against Aidan Hutchinson and the Lions’ defense. Overall, I’m not sure if this will be a defensive slugfest or a high-scoring shootout, but I’m pretty sure it’ll be a fun game.

The 2023 First-Team All-American tied for the SEC lead with five interceptions last season.
    • Signed K Jake Bates on June 18: Bates garnered national attention with his 64-yard, game-winning field goal in his United Football League debut this spring, and after joining the Lions this summer, eventually won the starting kicker job over veteran Michael Badgley.

    Top performers in 2023

    QB Jared Goff completed 407 of 605 pass attempts (67.3%) for 4,575 yards with 30 touchdowns against 12 interceptions.

    RBs David Montgomery (219 carries for 1,015 yards and 13 touchdowns) and Jahmyr Gibbs (182 carries for 945 yards and 10 touchdowns) helmed Detroit’s backfield.

    WR Amon-Ra St. Brown led Lions receivers with 119 catches for 1,515 yards and 10 touchdowns in a breakout third season.

    DE Aidan Hutchinson’s 11.5 sacks paced Detroit’s defense, which also had three different DBs record at least three interceptions: Kerby Joseph (four), Brian Branch (three) and Jerry Jacobs (three).

    On special teams, K Riley Patterson made 15 of 17 field goal attempts and 35 of 37 extra point attempts, while P Jack Fox averaged 46.4 yards per punt across 57 punts.

    Early storylines to watch, and what they mean for the Rams

    While much will be made about this being a rematch of the thrilling wild card playoff game from last season between the two teams, the focuses should be on the line of scrimmage and in each team’s secondary.

    The Rams will be without starting left tackle Alaric Jackson, while tackle Rob Havenstein’s status is still to be determined. Add in the fact that head coach Sean McVay said there’s a “good possibility” Jonah Jackson starts at center rather than Steve Avila for the season-opener, and Los Angeles’ offensive line combination could look much different than what either team envisioned when this matchup was announced back in late May.

    Both teams also changed up their secondaries, so it will be interesting to see how that plays out respective to each passing attack. Cornerback is where the most turnover was – the Rams signed Tre’Davious White, Darious Williams and Kam Curl; the Lions acquired Carlton Davis III in a trade with the Buccaneers, drafted Arnold and signed Amik Robertson. Compared to the lineups from the wild card playoff game, each defense will have three new starters in their secondaries, factoring in the safety position as well.
