Late Marriage, Obesity, Lifestyle Changes Major Contributors To Rising Infertility In J&K: Doctors

Srinagar- Late marriages, lack of awareness about contraception, rising obesity and changes in lifestyle are some of the leading factors behind the increasing rates of infertility in Jammu and Kashmir, especially among women, according to doctors.

Dr Barjasta Bahar, a prominent gynecologist at the District Hospital Srinagar (DHSK) said that there are several key reasons behind the growing infertility crisis in the region.

She said one of the most significant contributors is late marriage. As women marry at older ages, the natural fertility window begins to decline, making it more difficult for them to conceive, she said.

“The peak fertility age for women is between 18 and 25 years, but many women today are getting married in their late 20s or even in their 30s, by which time there is a notable decline in fertility,” said Dr Bahar. She further explained that social factors such as poverty, unemployment, dowry pressures, extravagant wedding traditions, delayed access to higher education, and a long wait for government jobs contribute to this delay in marriage.

In addition to delayed marriages, Dr Bahar said that Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS), a common hormonal disorder among women of reproductive age, is also contributing to the rise in infertility cases.

“Obesity, lifestyle changes, poor eating habits and rising rates of diabetes are other key factors playing a role in the decline of fertility,” she said. “We need to create a societal awareness system that encourages timely marriages, healthy eating habits, and weight management. These changes can significantly reduce the risk of infertility.”

Dr Rukhsana, another gynaecologist, said that Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID), an infection of the reproductive organs, is another serious issue contributing to infertility. PID, often caused by sexually transmitted infections (STIs) like chlamydia and gonorrhoea, can lead to long-term complications, including infertility. She also cited an increase in unsafe abortions, particularly those conducted by untrained individuals, which can result in infections and long-lasting reproductive damage.

“Septic abortions are a major cause of infertility, especially when performed by unqualified practitioners. These infections can permanently damage the reproductive organs,” Dr Rukhsana explained.

Moreover, a lack of awareness about contraception and reproductive health remains a major challenge in the region, contributing to unintended pregnancies, unsafe abortions, and, ultimately, infertility.

Doctors said that obesity, sedentary lifestyles, excessive consumption of junk food, and the tendency to delay childbearing in favour of career or economic stability are all interconnected factors fueling the infertility trend.

“An appropriate age for marriage, better education on reproductive health, a balanced lifestyle, and regular exercise are essential to reverse the infertility trend in the region,” the doctors stressed.

According to the National Family Health Survey (NFHS) 2019-21, Jammu and Kashmir has the lowest fertility rate in India, with a decline of 0.6 percent since the last survey conducted in 2015-16. This reflects a wider trend of delayed childbearing and increasing infertility in the state.

Experts are urging a multi-pronged approach that includes education, early marriages, healthier lifestyles, and greater access to reproductive health services to curb the rising infertility rates in the region.

Ruben Amorim drops MAJOR hint over Man United’s potential move for Viktor Gyokeres – as departing Sporting Lisbon boss reveals when the in-form striker will leave the club

    • Amorim took charge of his final home game with Sporting on Tuesday evening
    • He will have one final match in charge this weekend before joining Man United

Ruben Amorim has dropped a huge hint as to whether Man United will pursue Viktor Gyokeres after the striker put in another stunning performance for Sporting Lisbon.

The Swede continued his stunning form under Amorim as the Sporting head coach oversaw a 4-1 win over Man City in his final home match ahead of his move to Man United.

Phil Foden had given Man City the lead in the fourth minute, before Gyokeres replied with three goals – two from the penalty spot – to help inspire Sporting’s shock win.

There’s been plenty of discussion surrounding the former Brighton and Coventry striker amid his fine goalscoring form and some have suggested Amorim may look to bring him to Old Trafford.

Now, the Portuguese boss has broken his silence on the matter and revealed when he expects Gyokeres to leave Sporting.

Speaking after the match, according to A Bola, Amorim said:  ‘If I start joking about this Gyokeres situation I’ll get in trouble.

‘This is my city, this is my country, so I’ll respect it. Viktor has to stay until the end of the season and then his life will probably go somewhere else’.

Though a January move for the Sweden international appears to be off the table, Amorim appeared to hint that he could launch a summer move for Gyokeres.

Earlier in the night, United legend Rio Ferdinand tipped Gyokeres to follow Amorim to United after his stunning hat-trick against the Red Devils’ local rivals.

‘The recruitment teams in all the clubs in the Premier League must be scratching their heads about how they let him get away,’ Ferdinand said.

‘He hasn’t had a conventional route, his route to the top hasn’t been straightforward.

‘He was at Brighton as a kid, sold to Coventry, went on loan to Swansea, goes back to Coventry and does well, then goes to Sporting Lisbon.

Gyokeres' overall tally at Sporting now standing at 63 goals in 66 games

‘He has had a journey where he has had to build himself and create what he is now.

‘You think ‘How has he been allowed to get out?’, all of a sudden when are seeing what he has got, maybe he has grown into what he is, the confidence, stature he has, the physicality, he might have had to wait for that to come.

‘A few times today he blew away from players, holding people off.’

The hat-trick took Gyokeres’ tally for the season to 23 goals in 17 matches this season, with his overall tally at Sporting now standing at 63 in 66 games.

  • Kiyan Anthony follows in family’s footsteps, signs major NIL Deal with WME Sports

Kiyan Anthony follows in family’s footsteps, signs major NIL Deal with WME Sports

Kiyan Anthony, the 17-year-old basketball prodigy and son of NBA legend Carmelo Anthony, is charting his own course in the world of name, image, and likeness (NIL) deals. Recently, Kiyan signed with WME Sports for exclusive NIL representation, aligning himself with the same agency that represents his mother, La La Anthony. This significant move marks a new chapter in Kiyan’s growing career as he prepares for his college basketball decision.

The highly ranked high school player, who shines as a guard for Long Island Lutheran, is not only building an impressive athletic rsum but also expanding his business portfolio. WME Sports celebrated Kiyan’s signing with a statement highlighting his scoring prowess. As New York’s top-ranked player in the 2025 class, Kiyan made waves at the NBPA Top 100 Camp, leading in scoring with an average of 28.5 points per game. He continued to impress in the Nike EYBL, where he scored 19.6 points, grabbed 4.6 rebounds, and contributed 1.5 assists per game for Team Melo.

Kiyan, Carmelo Anthony’s son, shines with a spectacular dunk at the Bronx tournament

Kiyan has already secured several lucrative NIL partnerships in the past year. His deals with brands like PSD Underwear, Nerf, and the Mamba & Mambacita Sports Foundation have propelled his NIL valuation to an impressive $1.1 million, ranking him 11th among high school basketball players. This robust brand presence, combined with his athletic potential, places Kiyan in a prime position as he approaches his college choice.

College decision approaching for the Four-Star recruit

Kiyan’s path forward in basketball is as anticipated as his business ventures. He has narrowed down his college options to three: USC, Syracuse, and Auburn. The four-star recruit recently hinted at an upcoming announcement, scheduled for Friday, November 15, on his father’s popular podcast, 7PM in Brooklyn. Fans are eagerly awaiting his decision, especially given Carmelo’s legacy at Syracuse, where he won an NCAA championship. However, Carmelo has stated that he won’t pressure Kiyan to follow in his footsteps, allowing him to make his own choice.

With both his parents’ strong influence in sports and entertainment, Kiyan Anthony is well-positioned to navigate the dual worlds of college athletics and business. His recent move to join WME Sports mirrors his mother’s approach to off-court representation, while his decision to announce his college choice on his father’s platform keeps family at the heart of his journey. Whether or not Kiyan follows his father’s legacy at Syracuse, his future in sports and business is undeniably bright.

  • Battling Constant Body Shaming Issues at DWTS, Ilona Maher Set to Make Major Career Move After Historic Paris Olympics Triumph

Battling Constant Body Shaming Issues at DWTS, Ilona Maher Set to Make Major Career Move After Historic Paris Olympics Triumph

Like Stephe Nedoroscik, Ilona Maher is also having the time of her life right now. Coming off a bronze-winning Parisian campaign, the rugby player is now wooing fans with her groovy moves. Over the past few weeks, Maher’s stint at Dancing With The Stars has been mesmerizing, to say the least. Partnering up with Alan Bersten, the 28-year-old is showing that talent can never be restricted within strict confines. And she might have even grander plans to expand her horizons even further.

Ahead of making her dancing debut, Maher noted that it wasn’t just her love for dancing that encouraged her to join the show. Instead, she wanted to take the opportunity to spread more awareness about how body shaming can be devastating for a person’s confidence. Now, she’s looking to boost her worth further by possibly taking a bold step across the pond.

The next chapter awaits for Ilona Maher

An article by The Telegraph from October 25 claims that the USA 7s star is potentially in the talks to join several British rugby clubs. The most-followed rugby player on social media is already in communication to make her move to the Premiership Women’s Rugby (PWR) complete. With the World Cup coming up next year, Maher might soon be spending her days on the field in the UK rather than in the USA.

Both the Bristol Bears and Gloucester-Hartpury have reached out to the Olympic medalist to enlist her among their ranks. Maher is currently one of the most popular sports stars in the world, and SportsPro ranked her eighth on the list of the most marketable athletes in the world. With over seven million followers on social media, it’s easy to comprehend why the PWR also wants Maher to be the face of the tournament. However, the path to get her to the British Isles won’t be a walk in the park for any of the involved parties.

Issues with visas could become the biggest hurdle to getting Ilona Maher to relocate from the USA. Moreover, the fact that the Vermont resident hasn’t had an appearance in 15-a-side matches since 2021. On the other hand, the USA has been a steady supplier of players to the PWR over the years, and Maher could be the latest to join the long list. The defender could arrive in the UK in January, making her available for at least six regular-season matches. Whatever happens, Maher currently has a lot on her plate to deal with.

From the rugby pitch to the dance floor: A graceful transition

At the 33rd Games, Team USA made history as it beat Australia to win its first-ever rugby sevens Olympic medal. For understandable reasons, Maher was hovering above cloud 9 after the milestone achievement with her squad mates. With her dream to bag a spot on the podium being an unfulfilled dream at the Tokyo Games, Maher could barely withhold her jubilation after the team’s feat in the City of Love. After the victory, Maher also noted that this should give the sport more exposure. “I hope this means more money and funding for us because we deserve it. I hope this means more girls in the US trying out rugby and seeing what it can do for them,” she said later.

In the days after the Games, showing up for Dancing With The Stars was the only logical step for Maher to bring more fans to the fold. “When I first got the call, I wanted to say no. I have never danced before. I think I took a ballet class at preschool, and that is it. My comfort zone is the rugby pitch,” she elaborated on what made her skeptical to try out something new. However, these past five weeks have proven that Ilona Maher can achieve anything she sets her mind to. What has been the best moment for you from Maher’s scintillating dancing career? • Olympic Gold, LPGA Hall Of Fame & Major Title

Olympic Gold, LPGA Hall Of Fame & Major Title

Lydia Ko’s 2024 season has unfolded much like one would imagine a fairytale—a year filled with achievement, further shaping her legacy in the world of professional golf. Ko has secured an impressive 3 LPGA Tour wins, including the Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions, the Kroger Queen City Championship, and her third Major win at the AIG Women’s Open, held at the iconic St. Andrews.

Beyond the Tour, Ko has achieved two tremendous accolades this year. She most notably won Gold at the Paris Olympics, a feat which qualified her to become the 35th inductee in the LPGA Hall of Fame, joining the ranks of the most accomplished and influential athletes in the history of women’s golf. Yet, despite her extraordinary year, Ko remains exceptionally grounded and humble, reflecting on her journey with total gratitude.

    Career Snapshot:

    • Current World Ranking: 3rd
    • Turned Professional: October 2013
    • Joined the LPGA Tour: 2014
    • Won Her First LPGA Event: At age 15
    • Youngest-Ever World No. 1: At age 17
    • Won the Olympic Gold Medal: 2024, securing her qualification for the LPGA Hall of Fame
    • 30 total professional victories, with 22 on the LPGA Tour, including 3 Major wins.
    • Olympic medals in 2016, 2020, and 2024—taking home silver, bronze, and gold.

Gold Medal at the Paris Olympics

For Ko, winning the Gold medal at the Paris Olympics was a career-defining moment, one she had only dreamed of. When she stepped onto the podium, the significance of that moment washed over her. “I’ve been fortunate to stand on the Olympic podium three times,” she reflected with the memories. Ko recalled her first experience at the Rio Olympics, describing it as “the most surreal” moment of her life—a scene she had only ever witnessed on television. “At the time, it was a dream, a once-in-a-lifetime kind of moment,” she said, reminiscing about the thrill of representing her country.

Standing on that podium in Paris was particularly special for Ko. “Hearing my national anthem was incredible. There’s no other occasion where you can replicate that feeling. It’s not just for yourself; it’s much more than that,” she emphasized. Her previous medals, silver and bronze, also hold a special place in her heart. “Most of the time, if you come in second at an event or finish in the Top 10, you might think, ‘Maybe I should have done this or that better.’ You start comparing yourself,” she explained. “But in the Olympics, you’re not second and third; you’re a Bronze, Silver, or Gold medalist. You’re not ranking yourself the same way. When I came in second at any other event, I haven’t had the same feeling as I did coming in Silver at the Olympics. Sometimes a win doesn’t mean you’re the one holding the trophy.”

    A Hall of Fame Induction

Ko’s induction into the LPGA Hall of Fame was another landmark achievement in her storied career. This rare honor is shared by only a select few, and when asked how it resonated with her journey, she reflected, “I didn’t grow up thinking that I would become a Hall of Famer; I felt like that was out of my league.” She acknowledged that reaching such heights wasn’t merely about being ranked number one; it was about overcoming the ups and downs that each season brought.

“People tell me I’ve worked hard for this, but I feel everyone works hard. I can’t name a single person that doesn’t,” Ko said. “ I feel that I’ve been fortunate in timing with opportunities that have given me this chance. I know that not everybody is given the time, so I feel like I’m living in a fairy tale.” she added, affirming the joy and gratitude she feels for her career.

Third Major Win at St. Andrews

Securing her third Major title at the AIG Women’s Open at St. Andrews was yet another monumental accomplishment for Ko. As she looked back on her career, she shared, “I won my first two major championships in my first three years on tour. When you win, it doesn’t come easily, but at the same time, I didn’t realize I wouldn’t win another Major for eight years.” The long wait for her next victory made her appreciate the moment even more. “At the time, I felt I should be grateful that I am able to call myself a Major Champion. If it doesn’t happen again, my two Majors are still something that no one can take away from me.”

After her Olympic victory, Ko spoke with her coach about her future goals. “I said I would love to win one more Major before I’m done. Little did I know that would happen just two weeks later.” The excitement of winning at St. Andrews was overwhelming. “Down the final stretch, I didn’t think I was actually going to win,” she admitted. “It was such a special gift to win. I thought, what are the odds I’m going to get this gift again, especially with so many of my family members there?” Winning at St. Andrews, the home of golf, “it literally couldn’t have been better than that.”

    Beyond The Green

When asked which accomplishment holds the most significance for her, Ko likened it to a challenging decision: “It’s like asking if you like your Mother better or your Father better. Every win, every moment, is special in its own way.” Competing in the Olympics, in particular, stands out to her. “What I love about it is you’re there because you’re honored to represent your country at the biggest sporting event. No matter if you win a medal or not, you’re a champion just to be there. Not every athlete gets to say they’re an Olympian.”

Outside the realm of golf, Ko finds joy in music and fitness. “I’ve always liked listening to music and working out,” she said, noting that her dedication to fitness grew when she faced challenges on the course. “It was a stress reliever and it was beneficial for golf.” Recently, she and her husband adopted a Shiba Inu puppy named Kai, who has added a new dimension of happiness to their lives. “He’s given me so much joy and excitement,” she said. “I never grew up with a dog, so I didn’t know what it was like. When I came home from events, no matter if I had a good day or not, he was there, excited to see me. It’s the best feeling ever.”

    Inspirations and Reflections

Ko draws inspiration from fellow athletes, particularly Simone Biles. After watching Biles’ documentary, she felt a deep connection to the challenges Biles faced and overcame. “I was so inspired,” Ko said. “Hearing from someone of her caliber, what she went through, and how she came back to dominate again in Paris was truly inspiring.” One quote from Biles resonated deeply with her: “I get to write my own ending.” “That’s what I’ve been telling myself, since I’m closer to the end than when I was a rookie”.

As she contemplates her future in golf, Ko acknowledges her desire to leave the game while still playing well. “I know for a fact I’m probably never playing past 30,” she admitted recently to ESPN. “What has happened in the last few weeks doesn’t change my timeline. I want to leave the game while I’m still playing well.” Despite the pressures of competition, she recognizes that golf is just one part of her identity. “To know that golf doesn’t complete me,” she said thoughtfully, “golf is just part of me, but that’s not me as a whole.”

When asked to describe herself in three words, Ko chose “weird,” “competitive,” and “a foodie.” “Weird—my husband says that to me all the time,” she laughed. “Competitive, and a foodie.”

Lydia Ko’s extraordinary year is a tribute to her talent, resilience, and unwavering dedication to her career. As she continues to inspire both on and off the greens, the world watches eagerly for what Ko will achieve next. With only five tournaments left in the season, excitement builds. Will she add more accolades to her already impressive list of achievements? Will she retire? Whatever lies ahead, it’s clear that Lydia Ko’s story is far from over.

  • Canada’s #1 Live News & Lifestyle Morning Show Gets a Major Fall Refresh

Canada’s #1 Live News & Lifestyle Morning Show Gets a Major Fall Refresh

Interview: Marketing News Canada x Jordan Schwartz, Head of Morning Programming at Global News

How did the partnership with Wayfair come about and why was it a good fit for TMS (The Morning Show)?

We shared the news of our planned brand refresh with our Corus Marketing and Sales teams, and working with our Media Agency partner PHD Canada, they developed a partnership package which we took to Wayfair.

We knew that Wayfair was the perfect fit, since Wayfair is all about helping Canadians express their unique style at various price points.  We were confident they could furnish and dress the set in a way that truly reflects our brand refresh.  We also knew that Wayfair has a robust selection of various curated design styles that would allow for a seamless inspiring and valuable experience.

    Why the rebrand-refresh?

As TMS has evolved, it was time for the graphics, music, look and set to also evolve.  While it was essential to our team to stay true to our TMS brand, we also wanted to better connect with our Global News Morning shows and Global Entertainment in look and feel.  The in-house creative team at Global News came up with a magnificent new logo, dynamic animations, and colour palette.

We also decided that it was time to change our soft furnishings and accessories on set.  Being part Corus Entertainment means that TMS is at the hub of the best in lifestyle content, so our set has to live up to those standards.  Viewers look to our experts to deliver trusted advice, and we know this new look will showcase our content in both inspirational and achievable ways.

What are some of the set features?

We wanted to create a vibrant space that would not only bring joy to our hosts and guests, but we also wanted our set to inspire our viewers as well.

TMS design expert Shai DeLuca worked with the team at Wayfair to choose the perfect pieces to reflect the refreshed graphics and animations.  There is a real nod to the styles of the 1970’s in the choices.  Shai also made sure to pick pieces that were transitional enough to carry over time.

A show like TMS requires multiple combinations of conversation and demonstration areas and different types of seating that responds the topic, tone, and number of guests.  Shai and the team had no shortage of choices at Wayfair.  Our home base features mid-century accent chairs covered in a burnt orange fabric. There is a retro curved boucle sofa to accommodate multiple guests,  a wood dining/kitchen table surrounded by cane, wood and chrome chairs, and contemporary velvet and gold stools round out our new supply of seating.  We know a lot happens around the home, so we are bringing to life on live TV all of rooms where conversations happen in the home.

Can you speak to how Wayfair will be integrated into the show?

The curated furniture and décor items create a beautiful space for TMS and also act as an on-set showroom for Wayfair.  It is designed to inspire, showing viewers how Wayfair can help achieve every style for every home.

The partnership will be celebrated through verbal call outs, sponsored billboards, custom in-show segments led by TMS designer Shai DeLuca, social extensions,  a consumer contest for a chance to win Wayfair products, and branded content online articles that drive to Wayfair products for purchase.

How has TMS been able to keep its #1 position in such a competitive environment?

We listen to our audience, and we constantly evolve.  We make every effort to highlight topics of interest that are important to viewers from across Canada.  We know viewers count on us to not only inform them of the important topics of the day, but also, they also count on us to inspire and entertain them each morning.  Carolyn, Jeff, Morgan, and team are excited to kick off this new season with this refreshed look and our new partnership with Wayfair.

Interview: Marketing News Canada x Wayfair

Why did you decide to work with the TMS?

TMS recently went through a refresh. To align with this new direction, they needed a set that would express their updated identity. Wayfair was excited to step in as a sponsor, helping TMS curate furniture and décor pieces that truly reflect their new branding.

Just as we supported TMS in finding the right style to express who they are, we strive to do the same for Canadians, helping them create homes that reflect their personal style as they navigate different stages of their lives.

Why is it important to have a national presence in Canada?

We believe every Canadian deserves access to a trusted destination for all things home, so that their spaces express who they are, no matter where they live. That’s why our extensive range of styles is available from coast-to-coast, empowering everyone to easily create a home that feels just right for them. Whether it’s a new beginning, like TMS’ rebrand, or a life transition, Wayfair is here to support Canadians in designing homes that truly reflect their personality and lifestyle.
