Potential changes to Match of the Day, along with the race to replace Gary Lineker, remain the talk of the BBC.
Insiders believe that one move being considered is to introduce a segment to the highlights show of news from behind the scenes, which would see a journalist brought in to give some off-the-field detail.
The appearance of Roman Kemp on Radio 5 Live, on which he recently hosted the 606 phone-in with Robbie Savage, has also set tongues wagging.
With Chris Sutton covering Celtic’s late clash at Hearts, the 31-year-old stepped in to co-host. Kemp, son of Spandau Ballet star Martin, performed well after a nervous start and is known to have admirers in high places.
Whether the BBC’s new director of sport Alex Kay-Jelski would give him Lineker’s shoes to fill, however, remains to be seen.

Wales to tackle the FA
The attempt by Welsh clubs playing in the English league to qualify for Europe by entering the Welsh League Cup will now go before the full FA Board, rather than just a sub-committee.
In what would appear to be a blow for those wanting to ‘have their Welsh cake and eat it’, as one English exec quipped, EFL clubs have been told that the decision has been made ‘due to the importance and significance of the topic’.
Clubs have also been assured that they will be given the opportunity to respond as part of the consultation process.

Ignorance is Faes
Not all of Leicester City’s footballers were out partying while manager Steve Cooper was getting sacked. A group including Conor Coady and Harry Winks were spotted in a Copenhagen nightclub, close to a sign which read ‘Enzo I Miss U’, which many interpreted as a dig at Enzo Maresca’s replacement, hours after the defeat by Chelsea which saw Cooper punted despite his side not being in the relegation zone.
However, with the squad not expected back in until Tuesday, centre-back Wout Faes was spotted in the more tranquil surroundings of Cliveden House in Buckinghamshire. Indeed, as club bosses were harshly deciding that Cooper was out of his depth, Faes was relaxing in the spa’s swimming pool.

Christmas lights of a different variety have arrived at Crewe Alexandra courtesy of Cheshire Police, rather than Santa Claus.
Officers arrived at Gresty Road last week armed with LED grow lights, which they had seized following a raid at a cannabis factory.
With the League Two side’s pitch having suffered in previous winters, the donations were well-received by club staff, with one insider claiming they now had their own version of the Northern Lights.

Aussie side’s routine has divided sports fans across the internet

A Triple M radio host has been criticised for describing the recent viral dance performance from the Australian men’s netball team as ’embarrassing’ and ‘disgusting’.
The Australian men’s netball team stunned viewers a week ago with the side’s pre-tournament dance performance on the opening day of the Fast5 series in Christchurch.
The national team, known as the Kelpies, got the crowd on their feet before their first match with their dance routine to NSync’s Bye Bye Bye.
The controversial routine has since gone viral, notching up millions of views online with fans divided over if they like it or not.
One person who wasn’t impressed was Triple M host Ben Dobbin, who didn’t hold back on Brisbane drivetime show The Rush Hour last week.

Co-host Leisel Jones butted in: ‘It’s brilliantly, ironically Australian.’
‘I’m being honest here. I’m appalled by this. These blokes, seriously, take a look at yourselves.
‘Male netball does not have a place for Backstreet Boys.’
Co-host Liam Flanagan interjected: ‘To be clear, this is Triple M, not 4BC. What are you upset about? Men playing netball, or the dancing?’
Dobbin replied: ‘Both. I’m more upset about the dancing. You’re representing our country and you’ve got Backstreet Boys doing this sort of hip hop dance before you go to represent our country.
‘I’m sorry. It’s a gimmick. They made the headlines but for all the wrong reasons.’
The Kelpies went on to win the entire tournament, beating New Zealand 32-30 in the final
Jones chimed in: ‘Should the Kelpies have gone to the Olympics instead of Raygun?’
Dobbin wasn’t finished: ‘They’re of the same ilk. These blokes, they should be ashamed. And I mean that genuinely.’
Flanagan said to Dobbin: ‘So, did you have a problem that the women did it? Every team was directed by the tournament organisers to perform before their first game of the tournament.’
Dobbin replied: ‘Well, they’re not sheep, they don’t have to do that.’
Flangan asked: ‘Don’t you think it would be poor form if the tournament is like, ‘Hey, this is like T20 cricket, we’re trying to build a fast-paced, exciting atmosphere’. The crowd lost their marbles over that.’
Dobbin said: ‘Dance to Horses or Working Class Man, not the Backstreet Boys. I’m sorry, I’m sorry, this is disgusting. Mate, it’s embarrassing.
‘Daryl [Braithwaite] does it at every Cox Plate, there’s no dramas with that.’
Dobbin has since been criticised for his remarks on social media.
‘Imagine being angry at people dancing and enjoying themselves,’ replied one social media user.
‘Oh no, young men are enjoying themselves,’ posted another.
‘Dancing is part of the tournament, you absolute pelican,’ commented a third.
A fourth posted: ‘Sounds like this is disrupting someone’s long held beliefs of what it is to be a man. Grow up.’
The Kelpies went on to win the whole tournament by beating New Zealand 32-30.

There will be a heavy police presence but few visiting fans at Thursday’s soccer match between France and Israel in the Nations League, with authorities in Paris on high alert amid an increasingly tense political climate.
French police chief Laurent Nuñez said 4,000 police officers and security staff will be deployed around the Stade de France stadium, with another 1,500 police on public transport. The extreme measures come one week after violence against Israeli fans around a Europa League soccer game in Amsterdam in attacks widely condemned across Europe as antisemitic.
Three months after hosting an Olympic closing ceremony, the atmosphere has gone from festive to fearful and the national stadium was expected to be three-quarters empty for the match. French President Emmanuel Macron and French Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau will be present.
Only 20,000 of 80,000 tickets have been sold with around 150 Israel supporters reportedly attending, escorted by police.
“We’ve tried to prepare for this match as normally as possible. But obviously none of us within the team can be insensitive to such a heavy context,” France coach Didier Deschamps said Wednesday. “It impacts the amount of supporters present tomorrow and everything that goes with it.”
The away match against Israel on Oct. 10 — which France won 4-1 — was played in Budapest, Hungary.
“These are situations the players are not accustomed to,” Deschamps said. “But we have to adapt.”
The low number of visiting fans comes after Israel’s National Security Council warned citizens abroad to avoid sports and cultural events, specifically the match in Paris.
Retailleau told French news channel TF1 on Tuesday that no specific threats were identified but “zero risk does not exist.”
Therefore, he said, exceptional measures are in place “before the match, during the match and after the match.”
The elite tactical unit of the French National Police, known as RAID, will be in the stadium and some police will be in plain clothes mingling with fans. There will also be heavy surveillance within Paris, including at Jewish places of worship.
“It is out of the question that we take the risk of seeing a repeat of the dramatic events, of the manhunt, that we saw in Amsterdam,” Retailleau said, adding that postponing or moving the game elsewhere was ruled out.
“France does not retreat,” he said. “France does not submit, and the France-Israel match will take place where it’s supposed to.”
Last Thursday night, Amsterdam witnessed scenes of chaos when Israeli fans were attacked by hordes of young people apparently riled up by calls on social media to target Jewish people, according to Dutch authorities. Before the game, a large group of supporters of the Israeli team could be seen on video chanting anti-Arab slogans as they headed to the stadium, escorted by police.

French authorities have bolstered security plans for a football match on Thursday between its national team and Israel as they seek to prevent similar violence to the attacks on Israeli fans in Amsterdam last week.
President Emmanuel Macron has announced he will attend the game to “send a message of fraternity and solidarity after the intolerable antisemitic acts” that last week followed a Europa League match between Amsterdam’s Ajax and Israel’s Maccabi Tel Aviv.
The upcoming match will be a big test for France, which is home to the biggest Jewish and Muslim communities in Europe and where conflicts in the Middle East have historically reverberated in the form of protests and increased antisemitic incidents.
Since the October 7 Hamas attack on Israel and the subsequent bombing of Gaza, tensions have brewed across Europe as pro-Palestinian protests have spread.
Laurent Nuñez, the police chief of the Paris region, said “extremely reinforced measures” would be put in place taking into account lessons from Amsterdam, namely that violent attacks took place not only at the stadium, but also around the city and on public transport.
“We need to be present all over . . . in the centre of Paris,” he told BFMTV on Sunday. “Incidents could potentially happen anywhere.”
A force of 2,500 police officers will be deployed to the Stade de France on the northern edge of Paris, while 1,500 others will be present on public transport and fanned out across the capital.
The force is double the size of the usual deployment of up to 2,000 officers for so-called high-risk matches.
Some 1,600 private security guards will also be deployed to the stadium.
“Spectators going to this match will have complete security,” Nuñez said. “We will not tolerate any disturbances, any disruptions.”
The decision to hold the France vs Israel match in front of fans and not behind closed doors was made by Bruno Retailleau, minister of interior, and approved by Prime Minister Michel Barnier.
They opted against moving the Uefa League match to a neutral country, as Turkey did for an upcoming game between Istanbul’s Beşiktaş and Maccabi Tel Aviv later this month, which will be played in Hungary with no spectators.
“France does not back down, since that would amount to surrendering to threats of violence and to antisemitism,” Retailleau said. “We are in France, and I want a football match, even if it’s France-Israel, to be able to take place under normal conditions.”
Former French presidents Nicolas Sarkozy and François Hollande are also planning to attend the highly symbolic event.
Ticket sales have been muted, with only some 20,000 sold for the stadium that has a capacity of about 80,000.
Multiple violent incidents occurred in Amsterdam on Thursday before and after the Ajax-Maccabi match, with five people taken to hospital and later discharged.
Israeli fans were chased through the streets and beaten up, according to Dutch authorities. Maccabi fans had also torn down a Palestinian flag and shouted anti-Arab slogans, the police said.
Israeli authorities on Sunday urged the country’s citizens to take precautions when travelling abroad and “to totally avoid sporting or cultural events in which Israelis are taking part, especially the upcoming match of the Israel national team in Paris”.
Jean-Christophe Couvy, a police union leader, said he was confident the police could secure the match and the city on Thursday, using a plan that was similar to the one implemented during the Paris Olympics.
“If you put a big number of police on the street, you occupy the ground and prevent things from getting out of hand,” Couvy said.
Investigators are still sorting through exactly what happened before and after the match, but according to officials, it included “rioters who actively sought out Israeli supporters to attack and assault them” and inflammatory and violent actions by some of the Israeli fans.
Officials issued an emergency decree banning all protests in the city, which will remain in effect through Thursday, boosted security at Jewish sites and prohibited the use of certain face coverings.
This is what we know about how the events unfolded.
Wednesday, Nov. 6
Maccabi Tel Aviv fans began arriving for the game in the Europa League, the second-biggest Europe-wide club soccer competition behind the Champions League. (Israeli clubs have played in UEFA competitions since 1992.)
Amsterdam’s municipal security committee said that the game was not high-risk “from a football perspective” and that there was “no animosity” between the two sets of supporters,according to an official report released Tuesday. The committee said it consulted with police, the teams, authorities on soccer hooliganism and European soccer’s governing body, UEFA, before the assessment.
Ajax, the Netherlands’ most successful team, has historically drawn fans from Amsterdam’s Jewish community, and supporters sometimes carry Star of David flags to matches. The club also has many Muslim supporters.
While the evening passed relatively peacefully, police monitored aggressive messages on social media and messaging apps threatening Maccabi supporters, according to the report from the group of officials known as the triangle — Amsterdam Mayor Femke Halsema; René de Beukelaer, the city’s chief prosecutor; and Police Chief Peter Holla.
They saw “willingness to take action, and in a few cases also mobilization at a specific location,” the report added.
Around 11 p.m. local time (5 p.m. ET), four people were arrested after pro-Palestinian graffiti was sprayed at the Johan Cruyff Arena, where the game was set to take place Thursday, the report said.
Around 1,200 officers had been deployed in the city.
Thursday, Nov. 7
Early Thursday, a video posted to X and geolocated by NBC News to the Rokin, a major street in central Amsterdam, showed a crowd cheering as a man standing on a building’s awning ripped down a Palestinian flag.
Some in the crowd shouted “Ole” and “f— you Palestine.”
A police car then slowly drove past, and the fans moved out of the way. It is unclear whether authorities acted afterward.

Referring to the incident, the official report said the group then split up, with some walking toward the city’s famed red-light district chanting slogans. Some in the crowd wore masks, according to the report.
Some had “taken off their belts” and attacked a taxi. Other taxis were “vandalized” nearby.
After online calls “for taxi drivers to mobilize” went out, some drivers headed to the Holland Casino, where 400 Israeli supporters were, according to the report. Police transported the fans away on buses.

According to the report, “relatively small” confrontations continued to break out around the casino.
Later, the triangle discussed canceling the game but concluded that was “untenable” because large numbers of fans were already in the city.
At 1 p.m. local, a large number of Maccabi supporters gathered in the city’s central Dam Square, where, the report said, “police were prepared.”
Video shared on social media and geolocated by NBC News showed Maccabi fans chanting anti-Arab slogans in front of the square’s National Monument.
Later Maccabi fans could be seen singing “Death to the Arabs” and “Let the IDF win. We will f— the Arabs,” as well as tearing down another Palestinian flag.
Pro-Palestinian groups had initially planned to protest outside the Johan Cruyff Arena during the game, but Halsema, the mayor, said at a news conference Friday that she moved the demonstration to a remote location.
Amsterdam, like many cities across the world, has been the scene of large protests against Israel’s war in Gaza, which has killed more than 43,000 people, according to health officials in the blockaded enclave. Israel’s invasion of Gaza followed Hamas’ Oct. 7 terrorist attacks,in which about 1,200 people were killed and Palestinian militants took around 250 hostages.

Shortly before the game kicked off at 9 p.m. local time (3 p.m. ET), several videos posted to social media show Maccabi fans jeering, whistling and setting off flares during a minute’s silence for the victims of deadly flooding in Spain. A sign in the stadium read, “In memory of the flood victims in Valencia.”
That led to widespread criticism on social media, although several Israeli fans interviewed after the match said they had not heard the call for silence.
The game ended around 11 p.m. local time (5 p.m. ET). And after having watched their team get beaten 5-0, many Maccabi fans made their way back to their hotels and the city center.
Friday, Nov. 8
Within an hour of the match’s ending, security was falling apart.
Problems were expected partly because of social media messages “confirming that there are groups that are looking for a confrontation with Maccabi supporters,” according to Tuesday’s report. Officials cited screenshots from messaging apps that called for a “Jew hunt.”
Maccabi fans in the area were repeatedly targeted in “hit-and-run” assaults by pro-Palestinian ”rioters,” according to the report. Police struggled to quell the violence, and some of the fans were badly injured.
The report said that unlike in traditional hooliganism, in which people associated with rival clubs fight one another, the job of the police was made more difficult because rioters were moving in “small groups, on foot, by scooter or car, to attack Maccabi supporters briefly and then disappear again.”
A video verified by NBC News showed a man cowering on the ground. “I’ll give you my money,” he said. His attacker shouted back, “This is for the children! For the children, motherf—-r. Free Palestine now.”
Other videos showed people being kicked and beaten in the street. It was not immediately clear who the attackers or the victims were.
Meanwhile, around midnight, a large group of Maccabi supporters was seen in the Dam Square area.
“Some walk with sticks in their hands and commit acts of vandalism,” the report said.
Video taken early Friday by Bender, a popular YouTube channel, showed a group of men, some wearing Maccabi fan colors, picking up pipes and boards from a construction site, then chasing and beating a man.
Around 2:45 a.m., the Israeli ambassador contacted Halsema, the mayor, and said there was “lots of anger” in Israel over the events in Amsterdam.
Videos posted to social media and verified by NBC News showed that as some Maccabi fans returned home to Tel Aviv Ben Gurion International Airport, some of them were singing, “Why is school out in Gaza? There are no children left there.”
The violence sparked international condemnation.
Dutch Prime Minister Dick Schoof said he was “horrified by the antisemitic attacks.”
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu compared the incident to Kristallnacht, or the “Night of Broken Glass,” Nov. 9, 1938, when Nazi mobs in Germany launched violent riots aimed at expelling the Jewish community and vandalized their homes, synagogues and businesses.
Ambassador Deborah Lipstadt, the special U.S. envoy to monitor and combat antisemitism, said the violence was “terribly reminiscent of a classic pogrom.”
In a post on X, German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock called the images emerging from Amsterdam “horrific & deeply shameful for us in Europe.”
UEFA, which organizes the Europa League, condemned the violence, saying it trusted authorities to “identify and charge as many of those responsible for such actions as possible.”
A total of 62 people were arrested on suspicion of public acts of violence, vandalism and disturbing public order, according to the official report. Forty-nine were Dutch and 10 were Israeli, and the nationalities of three are unknown, the triangle’s report said, adding that 45 were fined and four remained in jail. Two minors were “suspected of committing serious assault.”
Sunday, Nov. 10
After 24 hours of relative calm, police detained 50 people at a pro-Palestinian rally for ignoring a ban on protests in Amsterdam. Another 340 people were loaded onto buses and dropped off on the outskirts of the city.

Authorities later extended the protest ban until Thursday.
French President Emmanuel Macron’s office announced that he would attend a match between Israel’s and France’s national teams Thursday — a bid to promote “fraternity and solidarity” after the events in Amsterdam.
Israel, meanwhile, urged its citizens to avoid attending cultural and sports events abroad over the coming week.
Netanyahu’s office said in a statement that Israel had intelligence that pro-Palestinian groups abroad intended to harm Israelis in cities in the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, France, Belgium and other countries.

With tensions high, dozens of people set a tram on fire in Amsterdam on Monday night.
Video geolocated by NBC News showed a group throwing fireworks and other blunt objects at the tram, with some shouting “Cancer Jews.” Police said it was not clear who started the unrest and whether it was related to what happened last week.
Five new arrests were made over the weekend, police said Monday. The five men, all Dutch residents ages 18 to 37, are “suspected of public acts of violence against persons Thursday night,” they said.
