    Men’s Ice Hockey: The Huskies hit the road for Hockey East matchup with UMass Lowell

    The UConn men’s ice hockey team is scheduled to take on UMass Lowell this weekend in a two-game series.  

    Connecticut will travel to Lowell, Massachusetts to play at the Tsongas Center. This will be the first time the Huskies play a series where both games are not at home. The Ice Bus has struggled to get its wheels rolling when playing on the road, with a 0-3-1 away record. UConn has the opportunity to flip that narrative this weekend. The Riverhawks have not been as successful at home with a record of 3-2, compared to their road record of 5-0.  

    The Huskies are coming off a massive upset win over No. 2 Boston College this past weekend which halted their previous two-game slide. Meanwhile, the Riverhawks are red hot, winning nine of their last 10 games. Last weekend, Lowell dominated Vermont while playing on the road in a two-game sweep, with a six-goal differential.  UConn played Vermont to two overtime finishes earlier in the season, splitting the series with a tie in the goal differential.  

    Junior Scout Truman leads the way for the Riverhawks this season. He leads the program in points coming into this weekend, knocking in five goals as well as tallying three assists. The Huskies defensive line will also need to keep an eye out for Lowell’s leading goal scorer, first-year Chris Delaney. Delaney has been a sniper this year, netting six goals with a .240 shooting percentage.

    UConn fifth-year Hudson Schandor and junior Ryan Tattle have been key contributors for the Huskies in conference play this season. Both players have scored two goals and four assists for a team-leading six points. Each of them contributed a goal and an assist in the team’s victory over Boston College last weekend.  

    This matchup will pose huge ramifications in the Hockey East conference. Lowell has dominated in conference play so far. They are 4-1 in-conference play, including a win over No. 9 Boston University. The Riverhawks have outscored their opponents by a 21-13 margin. The Huskies are 3-4-1 against conference opponents and have been outscored 22-28. UConn currently sits just behind Lowell in the conference standings. The Riverhawks stand in third place with 12 points, while the Huskies are nestled in fourth place with ten. 

    The puck drop is scheduled for 7:15 p.m. on Friday, as UConn looks to climb the ladder in the Hockey East conference.

    The Pace football team finds itself in perfect position to possibly claim a District 1-6A title in a couple weeks.

    After a strong 42-7 win over district rival Tate on Friday at Pace Patriot Stadium, the Patriots showed their offensive force against the Aggies. While Pace has been primarily a run-heavy team this season – and Friday was no exception – a key turning point came when Ben Tyner connected with Alijah Lavender for a 17-yard passing touchdown.

    Lavender was guarded in man-coverage by an Aggie defender pretty tightly, but Tyner placed the pass perfectly over Lavender’s shoulder, who hardly turned around and still caught the ball one-handed in the end zone to give Pace a 21-0 advantage midway through the second quarter.

Let’s do drills that say it won’t rain.” He even confirmed it by showing his app stats to the reporter. Well, it looks like Sanders has reached another level of optimism, as he doesn’t want to believe in expert reports or weather forecasts. Let’s see if it works for their upcoming matchup. Moreover, there are some other matchups at risk from severe thunderstorms.

    Other matchups facing weather uncertainties

    Weather uncertainty is a big turn-off for football fans. As they eagerly wait to witness their favorite teams battling against each other. After the Colorado Buffs thunderstorm reports now there are possibilities of a heat wave hitting Oklahoma around 3 pm to hit 100 degrees. Resulting in possible game delays for their much-awaited showdown against the Utah Utes at Boone Pickens Stadium. Moreover, this kind of extreme heat will surely affect everything, including the health of the players.

    Eastern Michigan hands UMass a season-opening setback in football matchup of future MAC opponents

    Eastern Michigan’s Cole Snyder threw for 241 yards and a touchdown on 17-for-29 passing, with multiple strikes down the field that torched the Minutemen’s secondary.

    After two UMass drives stalled out at midfield, CJ Kolodziey’s 42-yard punt pinned the Eagles at the 3-yard line, but it hardly mattered.

    Snyder, a senior quarterback transfer from Buffalo, led the Eagles on a 10-play, 97-yard touchdown drive, which he capped with a 1-yard touchdown run.

    UMass responded with a power running game, as it moved the ball down to the Eagles’ 16-yard line. But unsportsmanlike conduct against running back Brandon Campbell had UMass backpedaling 15 yards. After UMass failed to pick up the first down, senior kicker Jacob Lurie missed a 43-yard field-goal attempt wide left.

    “Can’t do those things,” Brown said of the penalty. “That’s a JV attitude.”

    With 1:09 left before halftime, UMass faced a fourth-and-7 from the Eagles’ 36-yard line. Brown summoned his offense to the sideline after a timeout, then sent them back on the field to attempt the fourth-down conversion..

    It backfired when Phommachanh was swallowed up by defensive tackle Donovan Green at the 43-yard line, giving Eastern Michigan the ball with 1:02 to play.

    Thirty-one seconds later, Snyder connected with junior wideout Oran Singleton, who made a diving catch on a corner route in the back of the end zone to give Eastern Michigan a 14-0 lead at intermission.

    UMass began the second half strong, forcing a three-and-out. The Minutemen then staged a 10-play, 70-yard drive powered by Phommachanh’s run-pass option game and running back Jalen John, who capped the drive with a 1-yard TD for his first career score to pull UMass within 14-7.

    On the next play, Snyder found junior wide receiver Markus Allen down the sideline for a 40-yard gain. The Eagles stalled at the 2, but Jesus Gomez converted a 20-yard field goal to put Eastern Michigan up, 17-7.

    UMass came away empty-handed on a drive that stalled in Eastern Michigan territory when the Minutemen settled for a 46-yard field goal attempt by Lurie that fell short and right of its mark.

    The Eagles cemented the victory, pulling away in the fourth on Gomez’s 31-yard field goal and a 6-yard touchdown run by Delbert Mimms III. Snyder connected with Allen on the two-point conversion pass attempt to make it 28-7.

    CJ Hester’s 2-yard TD run enabled UMass to halve Eastern Michigan’s lead with 3:06 remaining in the game, but it proved too little too late for the Minutemen.

    “You need the offense and defense to be complimentary,” said Brown. “I didn’t think there was much of that at all.”
