They are joined in the middle by another one of Mbappe’s former teammates, Sergio Ramos, and arguably the greatest one-club man in football history – that being Paolo Maldini.

    Ramos is best known for his domineering years in the Spanish capital but did have a brief stint in Paris with Mbappe. Maldini also slots in centrally, where he played in the latter stages of his career despite being more of a left-back in his prime.

    Down the middle, Mbappe has gone with two of the most explosive players ever seen. Ronaldo Nazario‘s legacy as one of the greatest is already cemented given his dominance and what he achieved, but had it not been for injuries, he may have reached the same heights as his namesake.

    Mbappe’s admiration for Cristiano Ronaldo is well publicised, given that posters of the Portuguese icon used to be on his bedroom wall. So it’s no surprise that the man attempting to emulate the greatest goalscorer in football history at the Santiago Bernabeu has included him as the final piece to this astounding team.

    ST. MARTIN’S EPISCOPAL SCHOOL STUDENT-ATHLETE NAMED GATORADE LOUISIANA FOOTBALL PLAYER OF THE YEAR

    CHICAGO (December 6, 2024) — In its 40th year of honoring the nation’s most elite high school athletes, Gatorade today announced Harlem Berry of St. Martin’s Episcopal School is the 2024-25 Gatorade Louisiana Football Player of the Year. Berry is the first Gatorade Louisiana Football Player of the Year to be chosen from St. Martin’s Episcopal School.

    Gatorade Player of the Year is the top honor in high school sports, celebrating the nation’s best high school athletes for their success on the field, in the classroom and in the community. The award distinguishes Berry as Louisiana’s best high school football player, and he joins an impressive group of alumni that spans CEOs, coaches and star athletes such as Emmitt Smith (1986-87, Escambia High School, Fl.), Peyton Manning (1993-94, Isidore Newman School, La.) and DJ Lagway (2023-24, Willis High School, Texas).

    The 5-foot-11, 185-pound senior running back and free safety rushed for 2,178 yards and 41 touchdowns this past season, leading the Saints (9-3) to the second round of the Division IV Select State Tournament. Berry ran for more than 100 yards in all 12 games and averaged 12.7 yards per carry. Defensively, he recorded 25 tackles, forced three fumbles and blocked a field goal. A three-time First Team All-State selection, he concluded his prep football career with 8,571 rushing yards and 132 touchdowns.

    A member of the St. Martin’s Black Student Union, Berry has volunteered locally at Holy Name elementary school and has donated his to multiple community service initiatives through his church. “Harlem has been the best player on that football team since his freshman year,” said Lee Roussel, head coach of Riverside Academy. “His elite speed is what makes him scary with the football. He can impact the game anywhere he lines up.”

    Berry has maintained a B average in the classroom. At the time of his selection, he had made a verbal commitment to receive athletic aid to play football at Louisiana State University next fall.

    The Gatorade Player of the Year program annually recognizes one winner in the District of Columbia and each of the 50 states across 12 different high school sports – football, girls volleyball, boys and girls cross country, boys and girls basketball, boys and girls soccer, baseball, softball, and boys and girls track & field – and awards one National Player of the Year in each sport. The selection process is administered by the Gatorade Player of the Year Selection Committee, which leverages experts including coaches, scouts, media and others as sources to help evaluate and determine the state winners in each sport.

    Berry joins recent Gatorade Louisiana Football Players of the Year Ju’Juan Johnson (2023-24, Lafayette Christian Academy), Arch Manning (2022-23, Isidore Newman School), Landry Lyddy (2021-22, Calvary Baptist Academy) and Walker Howard (2020-21, St. Thomas More High School), among the state’s list of former award winners.

    As part of Gatorade’s commitment to breaking down barriers in sport, every Player of the Year also receives a grant to donate to a social impact partner.     UE’s Diaz-Caneja & Engen Vik named to MVC Scholar-Athlete Teams

    EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) – Two 2024 Missouri Valley Champion University of Evansville men’s soccer team members were named to the MVC Scholar-Athlete Team.

    Junior defender Nacho Diaz-Caneja (Coruña, Spain) and sophomore winger Auden Engen Vik (Trondheim, Norway) were named to the MVC Scholar-Athlete teams on Tuesday morning. Diaz-Caneja was named to the first team while Engen Vik was named to the second team by a vote of league sports information contacts.Diaz-Caneja appeared in all 21 matches for the Purple Aces starting in 19 in 2024 while averaging over 70 minutes a match. He scored two goals for UE during 2024 including the game-winning goal at Memphis on Aug. 25. Diaz-Caneja also recorded an assist in Evansville’s first match of the year against Bellarmine. Offensively he took 14 shots with three landing on goal in nine matches and had a career-high three shots at Western Michigan and Bradley. Diaz-Caneja has one of the highest GPA’s on the team at 3.97 as a business major and has been on the Dean’s List every semester at UE.

    Engen Vik also appeared in all 21 matches for the Aces with 15 starts to average 43 minutes a match. The winger scored his lone goal of the season at NIU on Oct. 10 to win the match for UE in the 85th minute. Engen Vik assisted on two goals at Louisville and Western Michigan in the MVC Tournament for four points on the season. On the pitch, he took eight shots with four landing on goal in five matches, and had the fifth-best shot accuracy for Evansville at 50%. Engen Vik had a career-high in shots with three against USI to win the Mayor’s Cup on Sept. 1. The sophomore has a 3.86 GPA majoring in business and has been named to UE’s Deans List twice.

    Bowling Green and Missouri State had the most athletes named to the MVC Scholar-Athlete teams with five each. Western Michigan forward Noah James was named the Scholar-Athlete of the Year with a personal best seven goals and three assists in 2024 while having a 4.0 GPA studying pre-mechanical engineering as a sophomore. The criteria to make the MVC Scholar-Athlete teams mirrors the College Sports Communicator (CSC) standards for Academic All-America voting. Nominees must be starters or important reserves with at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) and they must have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at their institution.

    These are the Heisman Trophy candidates for 2024: Who will be named college football’s best player this year?

    Surprisingly, the top two contenders for this year’s Heisman Trophy race are not quarterbacks. Only two non-quarterbacks have won the award in the last 14 years – wide receiver DeVonta Smith in 2020 and running back Derrick Henry in 2016.

    In the top three contenders for the Heisman Trophy, there is one quarterbacks, one running back, and one player who doubles as a wide receiver and cornerback. If you’ve not been paying attention, allow me to introduce you.

    2024 Heisman Trophy candidates

    WR/CB Travis Hunter, Colorado

    No other player in the NCAA has played two positions as consistently and successfully as Colorado’s Travis Hunter, who lines up on both sides of the ball. As such, he’s played 1,266 snaps (602 on offense, 640 on defense, and 24 on special teams), more than any other player since 2018, according to ESPN. And he’s been successful on those snaps as well.

    On offense, Hunter is a receiving weapon, with 92 catches for 1,152 yards and 14 touchdowns this season, the second-most in one season in school history.

    As a cornerback, Hunter has logged 31 tackles, 11 pass deflections, a forced fumble, and four interceptions. He is the first player since 1980 to record 1,000 receiving yards and three interceptions in one season.

    The only defensive player to ever win the Heisman Trophy was Charles Woodson in 1997, taking the majority of his snaps as a defensive back, but also serving as a kick returner and the occasional wide receiver, logging 238 yards and three touchdowns. When you think about that, it makes what Hunter’s done even more impressive.

    Colorado’s season is over after they beat Oklahoma State 52-0 on Friday. Hunter is a finalist for the Chuck Bednarik Award, given to the best defensive player of the year, and in competition with Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty for the Maxwell Award, an award given to the College Football Player of the Year and which usually mirrors the Heisman (the last eight of ten winners of the Maxwell also won the Heisman).

    RB Ashton Jeanty, Boise State

    Boise State still has one game left to play this Saturday, the Mountain West Championship against the Rebels, but their standout running back Ashton Jeanty has already racked up record rushing yards. He’s got 312 carries for 2,288 yards and 28 touchdowns, plus 18 catches for 102 yards and a receiving touchdown.

    Jeanty is the first player to rush for 125+ yards in 11 straight games in the same season since Troy Davis did so in 1996 at Iowa State. He needs just two more rushing touchdowns to join Barry Sanders as the only players in FBS history with 30 rushing touchdowns and 2,000 yards in a single-season (Sanders holds the record with 2,850 rushing yards in a season).

    His 2,062 rushing yards leads the nation, with his closest competitor still 600 yards behind him.

    QB Dillon Gabriel, Oregon

    Dillon Gabriel played for UCF from 2019 until 2021 when he transferred to Oklahoma for the 2022 season. He spent two seasons there, racking up 6,828 yards, 55 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. In his final year, he transferred to Oregon, ahead of the 2024 season.

    He’s now led them to a 12-0 season and a Big Ten title game. He leads the conference in passing yards (3,275) and touchdowns (24). He has a shot to pass Case Keenum (19,217)as the NCAA’s all-time passing leader, currently at 18,140. This is the fifth time in his career that he’s over 3,000 yards passing. He set an NCAA FBS record for total touchdowns last month.

    His success lifted Oregon to No. 1 in the rankings and made them the only undefeated team in the nation.

    At Stanford, Andrew Luck built a renowned football legacy under the guidance of coaches Jim Harbaugh and David Shaw from 2008 to 2011. Years after captivating the college football world, Luck is returning to the program where his talents first shone, now serving as its new general manager.

    After earning the starting quarterback role in 2009, he quickly transformed into a national sensation, leading the Cardinal to a 12-1 season and an Orange Bowl victory. Known for his precision and intellectual approach to the game, Luck shattered school records with 82 career touchdown passes and 10,387 total yards of offense. A two-time Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Year and Heisman runner-up, he exemplified the rare athlete who balanced athletic brilliance with academic excellence, earning the 2011 Academic All-America of the Year award.

    Luck redefined Stanford football program’s trajectory in many ways. Under his leadership, the Cardinal shattered previous milestones, winning a school-record 12 games in 2010 and accumulating 23 victories over two seasons. Before Luck’s arrival, Stanford had rarely been mentioned among the nation’s top programs; during his tenure, the team spent 24 weeks in the AP Top 10 and secured back-to-back BCS bowl berths. Stanford permanently honored him by endowing its offensive coordinator position as the “Andrew Luck Director of Offense.” His legacy was further cemented with inductions into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2022 and the Stanford Athletics Hall of Fame in 2023.

    NFL scouts recognized Luck’s potential long before he left Stanford. Ahead of his sophomore season in 2010, Sports Illustrated’s Tony Pauline dubbed him “the most NFL-ready” quarterback among draft prospects. Despite being widely projected as the No. 1 pick in the 2011 NFL Draft, Luck chose to return for his junior season. By 2011, top analysts like Mel Kiper Jr. were drawing comparisons to football legends, with Kiper declaring Luck the best quarterback prospect since John Elway in 1983.

    Even during Robert Griffin III’s Heisman-winning campaign, Luck remained the consensus top prospect. His NFL potential sparked the infamous “Suck for Luck” movement, with fans and teams hoping to secure the first overall draft pick. The Indianapolis Colts, reeling from Peyton Manning’s departure, ultimately landed the coveted top spot with a 2–14 record, winning the “Luck sweepstakes.”

    Luck’s NFL career began promisingly in 2012, breaking multiple rookie records, including most passing yards by a rookie and most wins by a No. 1 draft pick. He led the Colts to the playoffs and continued to impress in subsequent seasons, including a historic comeback against the Kansas City Chiefs in the Wild Card Round. His 2014 season saw him lead the league in passing touchdowns and reach the AFC Championship. However, injuries began to take their toll, including a shoulder issue that sidelined him for the entire 2017 season. After returning in 2018 and earning Comeback Player of the Year, Luck stunned the sports world by abruptly retiring from professional football at the age of 29 in August 2019.

    The role of a college football general manager has evolved significantly in recent years. While the role is primarily operational and supportive — designed to allow coaches to focus on game preparation — since the transfer portal created an environment of unprecedented player mobility for college athletics, GMs must now continuously track portal entries, assess potential impacts and prioritize recruits who can make immediate contributions. Unlike traditional recruiting, this approach requires targeting experienced players capable of quickly integrating into the program. Normally the head coach, however, remains the central decision-maker in these processes.

    Luck’s role as Stanford’s general manager will be distinctly different from traditional positions. He will have comprehensive authority over both football and business operations, with a highly hands-on approach to collaboration. Beyond typical GM responsibilities, he’ll take on business functions similar to an NFL team president, focusing on fundraising, sponsorships, attendance, sales, in-stadium experiences and alumni relations. 

    Luck told ESPN that the idea of him managing the football program came up “organically” in a conversation with President Jonathan Levin a month prior. The quarterback graduated from Stanford in 2012 and returned in 2022 to complete a master’s program in education.

    Luck is confident in the school’s ability to compete for and retain top talent. His custom-designed role, created specifically for his expertise, would enable him to work closely with head coach Troy Taylor and try to restore the program to national prominence.

    “I’m excited,” Luck told ESPN. “We’re undoubtedly the best athletic department in college sports. We have to re-prove it in football, and we’re excited to be part of that challenge.”

    MITCHELL — A pair of Mitchell High School seniors earned places on the Class 11AA all-state football honor team, as selected by the South Dakota Football Coaches Association.

    Representing the Kernels, Parker Denne was picked as a running back, while Hudson Borgan received one of the two all-purpose athlete spots.

    Mitchell’s leading rusher and receiver this season, Denne paced the Kernels with 908 all-purpose yards, and accounted for 11 total touchdowns — five rushing, four receiving, one passing and one punt return. Against Douglas in the season-opener, Denne shattered the MHS single-game receiving yards record, hauling in eight receptions for 246 yards and three scores.

    For his Kernel career, Denne, a team captain, was a 1,000-yard rusher and totaled 2,366 all-purpose yards with 20 touchdowns.

    “Parker was one of the best players to wear a Kernel uniform the past three seasons,” said head coach Pat Larson. “He was a threat to score every time he touched the ball. He was our top offensive weapon the past two seasons, and everyone knew it.”

    A two-way starter as a safety on defense and Denne’s backfield mate on offense, Borgan collected 888 all-purpose yards and three touchdowns, along with 67 tackles (3.5 for loss), two interceptions, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery. During his MHS career, Borgan, also a team captain, had 1,279 all-purpose yards and 133 tackles.

    “Hudson was our best all-around football player this season, as he was a two-way starter and was on almost all of our special teams units,” Larson said. “He was the unquestioned leader of our defensive secondary and our No. 2 offensive weapon, both as a runner and as a receiver. He was instrumental in everything we did this season.”

    Yankton, which earned the No. 1 seed in the Class 11AA playoffs, led all teams with seven all-state selections plus two honorable mentions. The Bucks also had the Class 11AA All-American pick in senior linebacker Matthew Sheldon. State champion Watertown had six all-state picks and three honorable mentions, and runner-up Pierre landed five players on the honor team with two more honorable mentions.

    Five area players named finalists for the Titans Mr. Football Award | Local Sports

    NASHVILLE, TN (tssaa.org) – The Tennessee Titans Mr. Football Awards will be presented to the top football players in nine classifications of the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association on Wednesday, December 10, 2024, at Nissan Stadium in Nashville. The top kicker in the state will be recognized with a Mr. Football Award, regardless of classification.

    Five semifinalists in each classification were announced on November 7. There are six classifications in Division I and three in Division II. Three finalists for each category were announced by Mike Keith and Titans head coach Brian Callahan at 6:30pm CT/7:30pm ET. The three finalists for each award that were announced today will be the ones invited to attend the awards luncheon at Nissan Stadium, where the winner of each award will be announced.

    A committee of statewide sports writers selected winners based on performance in the 2024 regular season. Academics and character were also taken into consideration. High school head coaches and members of the media nominated the finalists.

    “We are very appreciative of the Tennessee Titans for their continued support of these awards,” stated Mark Reeves, Executive Director of the TSSAA. “Having the awards presented at Nissan Stadium will provide a very special atmosphere for these outstanding student-athletes.”

    This is the 40th year that the Mr. Football Awards have been presented to Tennessee’s best high school football players. A Mr. Football trophy will be presented to the winners of each category. A Mr. Football plaque will be presented to the other two finalists in each category. The other semi-finalists will each receive a certificate.

    Mike Keith, play-by-play voice of the Tennessee Titans, will emcee the awards presentation. A live videostream of the awards will be provided on the Tennessee Titans website.

  • Aidan Fenstermaker named Ski Valley’s football player of the year again

    INDIAN RIVER – Aidan Fenstermaker’s remarkable high school football career ended in a state semifinal loss to Pickford.  

    With his senior season compete, the Inland Lakes star is being recognized for what he accomplished on the gridiron this fall.

    Fenstermaker, a star quarterback and safety, was recently named the Ski Valley Conference’s football player of the year for a second consecutive season. Fenstermaker picked up the huge accolade after leading the Bulldogs (11-1, 5-0 Ski Valley) to another 8-player conference championship as well as a regional crown. Whether it was his legs or his arm, he dominated opponents throughout the campaign.

    Thirty-six local soccer players named to WVHSSCA All-State teams | Journal-news

    A total of 36 Eastern Panhandle soccer players were named to the recently released WVHSSCA 2024 AAA All-State rosters. Two female athletes and one female athlete were named to the First Teams.

    The girls All-State First Team was headlined by Washington goalkeeper Erica Schnable, who spearheaded the team’s first state championship in program history over the weekend, and Jefferson defender Molly Colbert, who played a vital role in leading the Cougars to the Region II Section II final.

    Throughout the season Schnable collected 113 saves over 24 games and tallied six shutouts. Colbert concluded her season as Jefferson’s assist leader despite primarily manning the Cougars’ defensive end. She also tallied four goals.

    Martinsburg midfielder Sam Collins was the only Eastern Panhandle athlete named to the boys All-State First Team. Throughout the postseason Collins scored multiple clutch goals to lead the Bulldogs to their first state tournament appearance since 2009. Across 19 games this year, he tallied 13 goals and nine assists.

    Jefferson goalkeeper Claire Lindsay, defender Soleil Basham and midfielder Bria Savage were named to the girls All-State Second Team. They were joined on the Second Team roster by Washington midfielder Megan Cantley and Hedgesville midfielder Abby Johnson.

    Jefferson goalkeeper Connor Barr, Martinsburg defender Crew Chrisinger and Washington midfielder Thomas Segura were named to the boys All-State Second Team.

    Local athletes dominated both the boys and girls All-State Honorable Mention roster.

    Manning this year’s girls Honorable Mention roster is Grace Lindsay (Jefferson), Marissa Sturba (Musselman), Aleena Simon (Hedgesville), Lizzy Stegmaier (Musselman), Rylee Stottlemyer (Washington), Morgan Kronthal (Musselman), Leena Simon (Hedgesville), Jurnee Vrobel (Washington), Ayla Kidd (Washington), Skylar Hook (Musselman), Jadyn Allen (Hedgesville) and Rylee Bodkins (Hedgesville).

    Manning this year’s boys Honorable Mention roster is Dawson Roblee (Jefferson), Carter Quinn (Washington), Logan Poplar (Washington), Dallas Richards (Martinsburg), Ricardo Flores (Jefferson), Mason Derrick (Jefferson), Jacob Straus (Washington), Trevor Duffy (Martinsburg), Dominic Perrino (Jefferson), Deacon Fajemirokun (Jefferson), Landon Stull (Washington), Dominic Demasi (Martinsburg) and Mason Hughes (Martinsburg).

    BYU quarterback Jake Retzlaff received a couple of midseason honors on Tuesday.

    He was named to the mid-season watch list for the prestigious Maxwell Award, presented annually by the Maxwell Football Club to the outstanding player in college football.

    He was also named to the Davey O’Brien QB Class of 2024 by the Davey O’Brien Foundation. Each member of the group is now an official candidate of the 2024 Davey O’Brien National Quarterback Award.

    Retzlaff has started every game for No. 9-ranked BYU, leading the Cougars to a perfect 8-0 start. The 6-1, 205-pound junior from Corona, California, has competed 137 of 229 passes for 1,872 yards and 18 touchdowns. He is also the Cougars’ second-leading rusher with 63 carries for 303 yards and three additional scores.

    For his performance during the first half of the season, Retzlaff was previously named Midseason Big 12 Quarterback of the Year and All-Big 12 First Team by College Football Network. The Cougar co-captain was also named to the Davey O’Brien Great 8 list and placed on the official Davey O’Brien Award Midseason Watch List following BYU’s 38-35 comeback win over Oklahoma State in week seven.

    Established in 1937, the Maxwell Award is one of the most prestigious honors in college football. The annual award was named in honor of Robert “Tiny” Maxwell who was a football standout at Swarthmore College and later a renowned sportswriter and football official.

    Semifinalists for the Maxwell Award will be announced on Nov. 12, with the three finalists being unveiled on Nov. 26. The winner of the 88th Maxwell Award will be announced as part of the ESPN Home Depot College Football Awards Show held on Dec. 12.

    The Maxwell Football Club was founded in 1935 and is the oldest football organization of its kind in America. The Club recognizes excellence in performance at the high school, collegiate and professional levels of the game.

    In addition to Retzlaff, five other Big 12 quarterbacks were named to the Davey O’Brien QB Class of 2024, including Rocco Becht (Iowa State), Josh Hoover (TCU), Avery Johnson (Kansas State), Shedeur Sanders (Colorado) and Brendan Sorsby (Cincinnati).

    Semifinalists selected from the 2024 Quarterback Class will be named on Nov. 12. The Foundation will then announce three finalists on Nov. 26. The winner of the 2024 Davey O’Brien Award will be unveiled live on ESPN on Dec. 12, during The Home Depot College Football Awards. Fan voting on social media will earn players bonus selection committee votes during the semifinalist, finalist and winner voting rounds.

    The 48th Annual Davey O’Brien Awards Dinner honoring the winner will be held Feb. 17, 2025, at The Fort Worth Club in Fort Worth, Texas.

    Kemavor named Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week

    BYU women’s volleyball middle blocker Brielle Kemavor has been named the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week, the conference announced on Tuesday morning.

    A product of Bristow, Virginia, Kemavor paced the Cougars at the net with a career-high 12 blocks in their four-set win at Colorado this week. The middle blocker averaged a league-leading three blocks per set, with her 12 total blocks good for fourth-most among conference student-athletes on the week.

    Tallying 14 kills (hitting .600) and 12 blocks against the Buffaloes, Kemavor recorded her second double-double of the season. She is just the seventh middle blocker to record a double-double in the rally scoring era at BYU, the fifth to post more than one in the same season and first since 2012.

    Kemavor is the second Cougar to earn a Big 12 award this season after setter Alex Bower was named the league’s Rookie of the Week earlier this month.

    No. 20 BYU is back home this week for games against No. 13 Arizona State and Arizona, beginning with the Sun Devils on Thursday, Oct. 31 at 7 p.m. MDT.

    Five Cougar women’s soccer players earn All-Big 12 Honors

    BYU women’s soccer earned six All-Big 12 honors for five athletes following the conclusion of the regular season. Allie Fryer, Avery Frischknecht, Mackenzee Vance, Mika Krommenhoek and Lucy Kesler earned First, Second and All-Freshman Team selections.

    Honors were chosen by the league’s head coaches who were not allowed to vote for themselves or their own student-athletes.

    In year two as members of the Big 12 Conference, the Cougars went 6-2-3, and posted an overall record of 8-5-5. BYU finished its season with a No. 4 conference ranking, earning a bye to advance to the Quarterfinals of the Sprouts Farmers Market Big 12 Soccer Championship on Saturday, Nov. 2 at 11:30 a.m. CT.

    The following Cougars were All-Big 12 First Team selections:

    Avery Frischknecht

    As BYU’s starting center back, Frischknecht saw a team-high 1,620 minutes on the pitch. She tallied a career-high four goals on the year, the fourth-highest goals scored by a Cougar this season. All four goals by Frischknecht have come from headers, including her goal in the 90th minute against Texas Tech to give BYU the 2-1 win for its last game of the regular season.

    Allie Fryer

    As a starting forward for the Cougars, Fryer led her team with nine goals and 63 shots on the season. This is her second year in a row with nine goals in a single season. She also added two assists and 1,220 minutes on the pitch this year. Fryer has earned back-to-back All-Big 12 awards, being named to the All-Big 12 Second Team last year.

    The following Cougars were All-Big 12 Second Team selections:

    Mackenzee Vance

    As a starting midfielder in her first season with the Cougars, Vance played 1,421 minutes on the pitch and tallied five goals, one assist and 36 shots. She is second in shots and goals for BYU just behind Fryer. After transferring to BYU from UCLA in the offseason, Vance has become a pinnacle midfielder for the Cougars, with quick transitions and two goals from free kicks outside the 18-yard box.

    Mika Krommenhoek

    As a true freshman, Krommenhoek earned All-Big 12 Second Team and All-Freshman Team honors. She started and played all 18 games this season for 1,459 minutes on the pitch in the center midfield position. She had her first-career goal against Oklahoma State and first career assists against Iowa State. She had three total assists and 28 shots on the year.

    The following Cougars were All-Big 12 All-Freshman Team selections:

    Lucy Kesler

    After graduating high school early to join BYU’s soccer team, the 17-year old Kesler became a staple center midfielder for the Cougars. She has played 16 games, starting in nine for a total of 1,095 minutes on the pitch. Kesler scored her first collegiate goal against Houston on BYU’s last home game of the season. She also added three assists and 17 shots to her stat sheet.

    Mika Krommenhoek

    Krommenhoek earned All-Big 12 Second Team and All-Freshman Team honors as a true freshman midfielder for the Cougars.
