    Happy New Year 2025! From going out on dinners to ordering food for a house party, many people made special plans with friends and family to ring in the New Year. No party is complete without good food and with the rise of quick food delivery platforms, many people do not stock food items in advance and place orders during the party time, as required. Several delivery platforms such as Blinkit, Swiggy, and Zepto shared data on food orders during New Year’s Eve. Take a look:

    Blinkit CEO Albinder Dhindsa revealed the biggest party order was placed from Kolkata worth Rs 64,988.

    Many people hopped on the ‘twelve grapes for luck’ trend. Blinkit CEO shared that grapes are one of the highest-ordered items on the platform.

    Some of the highest party snacks orders included 2,34,512 packets of aloo bhujia, 45,531 cans of tonic water and 6,834 packets of ice cubes. This was followed by 45,531 bottles of mineral water, 22,322 Partysmart and 2,434 Eno.

    Zepto CEO Aadit Palicha also revealed a high demand for ice cubes – 3,345 ice cube orders per hour and counting. 

    Sharing more fun insights on party snacks, Swiggy Instamart revealed that blue Lay’s lead the pack against green, orange, red, and yellow. They also reported a “2.21 lakhs chips order.”

    The top 5 trending searches on Swiggy Instamart were milk, chips, chocolate, grapes, and paneer. 

    Along with party snacks, Swiggy shared some of the most ordered food items – 2,96,711 cakes and 116099 burgers. Further, 2,24,590 users ordered pizza for the New Year’s party.

    The excitement of the new year is in full swing. On New Year’s Eve, people had various plans to celebrate – some partied with friends, others spent time with family or went on vacation. However, Blinkit CEO Albinder Dhindsa had a unique plan: to become a delivery agent! On the occasion of New Year’s Eve, he set up camp at the Gurugram Blinkit store to pack and deliver orders for his 10-minute delivery service. His hands-on approach not only demonstrated his commitment to customer satisfaction but also highlighted his dedication to pushing the boundaries of instant delivery services.
    Taking to X, Dhindsa wrote, “Starting the NYE posts this year from one of our stores (in Nirvana Country, Gurugram).” In the photo he shared, he can be seen wearing a bright yellow delivery agent’s jacket.

    His subsequent post revealed that he had picked and packed an order, writing, “Going to pick and pack an order, let’s see how much time it takes me.” Following that, he shared another post saying, “Done. It took me 2 minutes and 57 seconds to pick and pack. Too slow. The average picking time at this store is 1 minute and 46 seconds (sorry for the delay and happy new year to whoever’s order this was).” Dhindsa also shared an update on his next Blinkit delivery, noting, “Just picked an order which has a mini air hockey table and a couple of other items! Will be delivering this one as well.”

    Additionally, he shared what items were most ordered on New Year’s Eve. In the post, he mentioned: 1,22,356 packs of condoms, 45,531 bottles of mineral water, 22,322 PartySmart, and 2,434 Eno… all en route now! Getting ready for the after-party?

    In addition to taking on the role of a Blinkit delivery agent, Albinder Dhindsa announced the launch of a new fleet of electric vehicles designed for handling large orders, particularly for electronics and party supplies. He shared that these vehicles are currently operational in Delhi and Gurugram, with plans to expand to other cities soon.

Swiggy released its ‘Annual Trends Report: How India Swiggy’d 2023′ for the 8th consecutive year and revealed some interesting year-round-up facts about what foods Indians ordered the most, how much, from where and more.

    Who Ordered What and Where?

    From the bustling streets of Mumbai to the heart of Delhi, food lovers across India were busy placing orders. Over 6.6 million unique dishes were up for grabs on Swiggy’s menu nationwide. While some users were searching for “Swiggy” or “order” on Swiggy – a whopping 5028 and 1682, respectively, didn’t find what they were looking for.

    The Ordering Stars of 2023:

    One person in Mumbai managed to rack up food orders worth a staggering INR 42.3 lakh – now that’s an appetite! But it wasn’t just the big cities; even smaller towns like Jhansi ordered a lot of food with one user ordering a whopping 269 items in a single order for a party.

    The Dishes That Stole The Show

    Gulab Jamuns triumphed over Roshogollas during Durga Pujo, with over 7.7 million orders. Masala Dosa stole the show as the top veg order for all nine days of Navaratri. In Hyderabad, Idli took the crown with a customer spending a whopping 6 lakhs on them. Biryani continued its reign as the most-ordered dish for the eighth straight year, with 2.5 biryanis ordered per second.

    The City That Emerged As ‘The Cake Capital’

    Bangalore claimed the title of ‘Cake Capital’ with a whopping 8.5 million orders for chocolate cake. During Valentine’s Day, India ordered 271 cakes per minute.

    New Surprise Cuisines:

    Vegans rejoiced, with a 146% rise in vegan orders on Swiggy Guiltfree. The battle between Japanese and Korean cuisine was won by Anime, with Japanese dishes scoring 2x more orders.

    Dining Out And Savings:

    Swiggy One and One Lite users enjoyed savings of over INR 900 crores, while Swiggy Dineout users saved a jaw-dropping INR 300 crores. Instamart enthusiasts ordered from the 17th most populated ‘Insta-pur’ in the world, and one user in Jaipur placed 67 orders in a single day. The delivery of instant noodles in Delhi took just 65 seconds!

    As we bid adieu to 2023, these stats and insights tell the story of a year celebrating the diverse palates and evolving food culture across India.

    A romance fraudster who conned a woman out of £175,000 to fund a lavish lifestyle has been ordered to pay back just £30,000. 

    Kye Hughes, 35, of Rochester, Kent, funnelled some of the cash into his personal account and spent it on lush holidays to Portugal and Turkey, Rolex watches, and splashing out £1,200 on Louis Vuitton products. 

    He had scammed his victim by pretending he was a musician and for extra money invested in luxury watches, suggesting that if she did the same she would double her money.

    Hughes received thousands of pounds from his victim who believed it was a legitimate scheme, and asked for more funds, promising a return on her investment which never materialised.

    The woman reported the fraud to the force and Hughes was arrested in 2019.

    Hughes was jailed for three years in 2023, and now must hand over more than £30,000 by Christmas Eve or face another 12 months behind bars

    He was jailed at Maidstone Crown Court in October 2023 for three years and four months for fraud by false representation and money laundering, according to Kent Police.

    At a further hearing at the same court on September 27 this year, he was ordered to pay back £32,144 to the victim by December 24 or face a further 12 months in prison.

    Kent Police Detective Inspector David Godfrey said: ‘Our work does not stop at the point of conviction – we will always do everything we can to get as much money as possible back for victims.

    ‘In this case, the woman was left heartbroken and under serious financial strain after being defrauded out of her life savings. I hope the compensation from the confiscation order will go towards helping her in the recovery of this ordeal.’

    Chief crown prosecutor for the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) proceeds of crime division, Adrian Foster, said: ‘Romance fraud is a cruel deception that preys on the unique trust and vulnerability that exists in intimate relationships.

    ‘Kye Hughes manipulated the victim, stealing from her, threatening her and leaving her with debt and unimaginable stress.’

    From 2019 to 2024, £450 million has been recovered from convicted criminals through CPS confiscation orders, including £88 million returned to victims of crime, a CPS spokesman added.

Whether it is utensils like pressure cookers, woks or griddles, or even grocery items such as bread, chips and flour, everything gets delivered with just a click. But has an order got delivered to your doorstep years after placing it? Well, that is exactly what happened to a man who ordered a pressure cooker from Amazon two years ago. He placed the order in October 2022 and it finally arrived in August 2024. Interestingly, the user mentioned that he had cancelled the order and even received a refund back then, yet the package arrived out of nowhere. Sounds hilarious, right?

    In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), the person attached a screenshot of his order with a sarcastic note. It read, “Thank you Amazon for delivering my order after 2 years. The cook is elated after the prolonged wait, must be a very special pressure cooker!”

    Responding to the post, the official customer service page of Amazon, Amazon Help wrote, “Hi there, we’re sorry to hear this. Kindly report this to our support team.”

    The user replied to the company by writing, “Report what? The order was cancelled and refunded back in 2022? And delivered out of nowhere yesterday. How do I pay for it now?”

    The post quickly became viral and many others also shared their reactions in the comments section.

    A user joked, “They were cooking it for real.”

    Another one hilariously added, “I think your order is coming from parallel universe so it took 2 years to reach it to you.”

    “I think amazon delivered from mars,” read a comment.

    Someone talked about a similar experience. They wrote, “A similar strange thing happened to me as well. I ordered a product in June 2023, reported it as missing in transit, and got a refund. But then, out of the blue, it was delivered in October.”
