Sage Steele hopes sports outlets ‘softens’ opposition to Trump support | News

Podcast host Sage Steele expressed hope that sports broadcasters will tone down their rhetoric against athletes supporting President-elect Donald Trump, suggesting they should be allowed to “celebrate” like other Trump supporters.

Steele’s statement was in response to a question regarding Las Vegas Raiders tight end Brock Bowers, whose postgame interview was cut short after he responded to a question on why he did a victory dance similar to Trump’s iconic dance move. Steele, who attended Saturday night’s UFC fight where Jon “Bones” Jones also did the Trump dance, said she was “smiling” when Jones did the dance, knowing the fight was being broadcasted on ESPN+, a Disney-owned media outlet.

“Because you can’t cut away from Jon “Bones” Jones doing the Trump dance in the middle of the octagon for what he did when he won, so it was so incredible,” Steele said on Fox News’s Fox & Friends. “And hopefully, all these media companies and everyone else just softens. Let’s just stop the divisiveness, enjoy what this is. These are athletes celebrating victories, bringing people together. So, to watch Trump, by the way, absorbing all that as well, and enjoying it and laughing at John.”

Steele worked at ESPN for 16 years before leaving in 2023 to “exercise my First Amendment rights more freely.” She has since started her own podcast, The Sage Steele Show, which has featured several notable people, including UFC CEO Dana White and Republican National Committee Co-Chairwoman Lara Trump.

Steele also reflected on people’s energy and excitement at Saturday’s UFC event, noting Trump’s walk up to the fight was “incredible.” She said part of the excitement came from seeing not just the president-elect but “almost everybody” in his Cabinet so far, including billionaires Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy, former Democratic Hawaii Rep. Tulsi Gabbard, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., and House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA), among others.

Steele brought her father to the fight, thanks to some help from White. She revealed she wanted to become a sportscaster because of her father, who is still “on cloud nine” after attending Saturday’s fight.

The fight also saw Jones lend his heavyweight champion title belt to Trump, with footage of the pass shared on X. Trump also greeted UFC announcer Joe Rogan, who endorsed him after their interview on his podcast, The Joe Rogan Experience, right before Election Day.

Following Trump’s victory in the 2024 election against Vice President Kamala Harris, White gave a shoutout to various podcast hosts for conducting interviews with Trump, which was part of the former president’s move to win over the young male vote. White has been an ally of the Trump campaign, calling Trump the “real American bada**” at the 2024 Republican National Convention.

  • Facebook owner Meta bans Russia state media outlets over “foreign interference”

Facebook owner Meta bans Russia state media outlets over “foreign interference”

LONDON — Meta said it’s banning Russia state media organization from its social media platforms, alleging that the outlets used deceptive tactics to amplify Moscow’s propaganda. The announcement drew a rebuke from the Kremlin on Tuesday.

The company, which owns Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram, said late Monday that it will roll out the ban over the next few days in an escalation of its efforts to counter Russia’s covert influence operations.

“After careful consideration, we expanded our ongoing enforcement against Russian state media outlets: Rossiya Segodnya, RT and other related entities are now banned from our apps globally for foreign interference activity,” Meta said in a prepared statement.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov lashed out, saying that “such selective actions against Russian media are unacceptable,” and that “Meta with these actions are discrediting themselves.”

“We have an extremely negative attitude towards this. And this, of course, complicates the prospects for normalizing our relations with Meta,” Peskov told reporters during his daily conference call.

RT was formerly known as Russia Today. Rossiya Segodnya is the parent company behind state news agency RIA Novosti and news brands like Sputnik.

“It’s cute how there’s a competition in the West — who can try to spank RT the hardest, in order to make themselves look better,” RT said in a release.

Rossiya Segodnya did not respond to a request for comment from The Associated Press.

Meta’s actions comes days after the United States announced new sanctions on RT, accusing the Kremlin news outlet of being a key part of Russia’s war machine and its efforts to undermine its democratic adversaries.

U.S. officials alleged last week that RT was working hand-in-hand with the Russian military and running fundraising campaigns to pay for sniper rifles, body armor and other equipment for soldiers fighting in Ukraine. They also said RT websites masqueraded as legitimate news sites but were used to spread disinformation and propaganda in Europe, Africa, South America and elsewhere.

Earlier this month, the Biden administration seized Kremlin-run websites and charged two RT employees of covertly providing millions of dollars in funding to a Tennessee-based content creation company to publish English-language social media videos pushing pro-Kremlin messages.

    Moscow has rejected the allegations.

Meta had already taken steps to limit Moscow’s online reach. Since 2020 it has been labeling posts and content from state media. Two years later, it blocked state media from running ads and putting their content lower in people’s feeds, and the company, along with other other social media sites like YouTube and TikTok, blocked RT’s channels for European users. Also in 2022 Meta also took down a sprawling Russia-based disinformation network spreading Kremlin talking points about the invasion of Ukraine.

Meta and Facebook “already blocked RT in Europe two years ago, now they’re censoring information flow to the rest of the world,” RT said in its statement.

Moscow has fought back, designating Meta as an extremist group in March 2022, shortly after sending troops into Ukraine, and blocking Facebook and Instagram. Both platforms — as well as Elon Musk’s X, formerly known as Twitter, which is also blocked — were popular with Russians before the invasion and the subsequent crackdown on independent media and other forms of critical speech. The social media platforms are now only accessible through virtual private networks.

  • Food Outlets At MG Bus Station In Hyderabad Found To Be Violating Safety And Hygiene Regulations

Food Outlets At MG Bus Station In Hyderabad Found To Be Violating Safety And Hygiene Regulations

Telangana’s Commissioner of Food Safety visited MG Bus Station in Hyderabad’s Imblibun area on September 10, 2024. The task force inspected several food outlets at the location and unearthed serious violations. Firstly, at Nandini Cafeteria, the officials found patchy flooring, water stagnation, open washroom doors, windows without insect-proof screens, 20 kilos of suspected contaminated lime pickle and unlabelled and uncovered food inside the refrigerator. The food handlers were not wearing aprons and hair caps. That’s not all. The task force seized 50 kilos of toor dal and 50 kilos of packed coriander, as they “were found without proper labels, such as the date of packing and use-by dates.” It was also observed that raw food materials such as flour and pulses were “stored directly on the floor, with no gap maintained between items and walls.” Additionally, an iron stand kept above the area for rice preparation was discovered to be corroded and rusted. The FBO [Food Business Operator] had failed to maintain the requisite pest control records and medical fitness certificates. It had also not displayed a copy of its FSSAI license in a prominent place.

At Yagnesh Virat Food Court, the officials discovered houseflies in the kitchen, overflowing dustbins without lids and unlabelled dishes in the fridge. They noted that the premises were “open to the external environment,” and there were no insect-proof screens. Moreover, the necessary Medical fitness certificates and pest control records were not found at the establishment at the time of the inspection.

The task force also inspected Stall No. 24 at MG bus station. They found out that the FBO was operating its business without an FSSAI license. Medical fitness and pest control records were unavailable. The kitchen premises were “found in a highly unhygienic condition,” as per the officials. The dustbins were “overflowing with filth” and houseflies were hovering around them. Cobwebs were observed near the storage area. There were issues with the food too. The team discarded synthetic food colours that they discovered were being used in Chinese dishes. Additionally, cooked rice and flour were not stored properly, as they were not labelled and covered.

Next, the task force conducted inspections at Raghavendra Bakery and Fast Food. The FBO did not provide a copy of its FSSAI license at the time of inspection. Medical fitness certificates and pest control records were also not available. The team made note of broken tiles, greasy walls, live cockroach infestation in the kitchen, windows without insect-proof screens and food handlers without hair caps and aprons. Synthetic colours were being used in Chinese food and were thus discarded. The officials stated that the refrigerator was in an unhygienic condition. The food stored inside it did not have labels and covering. Other food items like rice and flour, stored outside, were kept directly on the floor.

The day before these inspections, the task force visited tiffin centres and hostels in Hyderabad’s Ashok Nagar area. Wide-ranging food safety violations were unearthed at these establishments. Click here to read the complete story.
