    On the advice of the ringside physician, the highly anticipated main event fight was sadly, but understandably, waved off as the doctors became concerned that the already significant swelling suffered by Benoit Saint-Denis could be hiding some more severe injuries.

    Benoit Saint-Denis reacts to doctor’s stoppage loss in UFC Paris main event

    After dragging the ‘God of War’ to the ground, Renato ‘Money’ Moicano kept busy as he landed brutal elbows and punches from the top position; with several particularly vicious strikes landing around both eyes of the Frenchman throughout the opening round.

    Despite all three judges scoring the second for Saint-Denis, they couldn’t do anything as the fight was taken out of their hands: with the swelling around his eyes being too severe for the UFC doctors to allow the fight to continue.

    Speaking to Michael Bisping in the octagon following the fight being waved off, an understandably emotional Benoit Saint-Denis thanked the Paris faithful for their unwavering support as he noted that he felt ‘sleepy’ in the opening round.

    “A big thank you to everyone for your support, it was absolutely unbelievable to be here… Unfortunately, in that first round I came out and I was a little bit sleepy, and it allowed him to do enough damage to then play the Matador in the later rounds so I’m sorry for that.”

    The ‘God of War’ promised the Parisian crowd that he’d be back “stronger” next time around and that whilst he’s “sorry for that performance, I was proud to represent the flag.”

    Saint-Denis has now taken to social media to once again thank his fanbase, and to acknowledge that injuries like those he suffered in Paris last night are simply part and parcel of the sport.

    “Not my day, this sport is hard but amazing,” he wrote via his Instagram page.

    “Thank you all for your unwavering support. Proud to represent France in the octagon at home. Respect to my opponent for facing me at home and congratulations to him.

    “God puts challenges in our path and this one is nothing compared to what I’ve experienced.”

    Given the severity of the swelling, Saint-Denis will likely be out of action until early 2025 but when the ‘God of War’ does decide to return to the battlefield, he could do so with Moicano in support.

    Renato Moicano invites Benoit Saint-Denis to train with him for next fight

    Whilst Moicano is known for being one of the best trash-talkers in the game, the fan-favorite Brazilian would also show respect to Saint-Denis for fighting through such nasty-looking injuries at the post-fight press conference.

    “I will be honest with you, I really respect Benoit Saint-Denis [because] what he did in this division – I think he’s very strong, he’s young but I think he needs to work on his game because usually, what makes him dangerous is what makes him vulnerable.

    “He puts so much pressure on, if he touches you, he’s going to break you; but if he cannot touch you, it’s easy to see [strikes coming] and watching his fights, the way he stands up and swipes fighters always going 100%.”

    Moicano stated that the fight in Paris went exactly how he and his team planned and even invited Benoit Saint-Denis to train with him for his next fight, whenever that may be.

    “I was talking to my coach about once I got this guy down, he’s going do everything to swipe me and he’s going to gas out and that’s what happened.

    “I invite Benoit Saint-Denis to my gym to train with us and I guarantee he’s going to be another fighter; he needs to get out of his comfort zone in my opinion but he’s a great fighter.”

    Moicano currently trains out of American Top Team alongside the likes of possible future opponent Mateusz Gamrot, as well as the likes of Jorge Masvidal, Alexandre Pantoja, and even Saint-Denis’ former opponent Dustin Poirier.

    The hurdler stepped onto the purple tracks at Stade de France to seize the title of Olympic champion for the next 4 years in the 400m hurdles. While fans expected her to defend her title, she did that and more! The 25-year-old scorched the tracks in a world record-breaking time of 50.37 seconds. Not only did she win her second Olympic gold in the event, but McLaughlin-Levrone is also the only woman to have achieved this feat. In fact, she even shattered her own world record for the 6th time in her career. 

    However, the Olympian returned to the track for yet another shot at an Olympic gold. Only this time, it was in the women’s 4x400m relay. Her incredible split of 47.71 seconds gave Team USA a comfortable lead. The quartet of herself, Gabby Thomas, Shamier Little, and Alexis Holmes set a new American record with 3:15:27 seconds on the clock. But while her unusual side shocked many, this wouldn’t be the first time the 25-year-old had let loose.

    In the latest Ready Set Go podcast episode, Justin Gatlin and Rodney Green spoke to their guest, Tiara Williams, also known as Real Talk with Tee. While discussing her Paris Olympics memories, the conversation soon deviated to McLaughlin-Levrone. However, the track and field legend was beyond excited to discuss her fun interactions with the Olympian. 

    Gatlin reiterated how Williams has a way of bringing out Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone. He even reiterated, “I love your interaction with Sydney because I feel like no one brings out a side of Sydney like you bring out and I be sitting like, what is going on here? You got Sydney over here dancing. What’s going on there?” The interview he’s talking about is from the U.S. Olympic Trials in July.

    Criticism came fast and strong, with some questioning whether Swiatek could handle the pressure on the world stage. However, one person stands firmly by her side—her father, Tomasz Swiatek.

    Tomasz engaged in an interview with Mateusz Puka, a journalist at SportoweFakty. He deliberated on several factors, including the latest performances of his daughter and her campaign at the Paris Olympics. He highlighted that while his daughter witnessed criticism for not clinching the gold, it can not be attributed to Swiatek’s skills.

    Speaking in the interview, he said, “The Olympic tournament is special because it is unique and is played only every four years. The extra stress was evident not only from Iga but also from the other athletes.” Remember, Swiatek was not the only player who struggled because of the pressure of the tournament. Several top-ranked players faced similar stress, including Coco Gauff who was ousted in the third round against Donna Vekic. Continuing further, he reflected on how the pressure from the media took a toll on Swiatek’s performance. 

    “The pressure to win the gold medal was very high, a lot of articles were written, everyone was already hanging this medal around Iga’s neck before the tournament, and this certainly did not help. Iga is only human.” He also highlighted that the Polish star was extremely stressed throughout the tournament and was shattered after she fell short of winning the Gold.

     

    Remember, the expectations were extremely high from Swiatek, especially because of her dominance on clay courts. She was fresh off her victory at the French Open, her third consecutive and fourth overall title in the clay-court Grand Slam, which fueled her expectations. Besides, the tournament was critical for Swiatek, especially because of her father. 

    In an interview with Euro Sports before the Tokyo Olympics in 2021, the 23-year-old revealed her motivation for the Olympics and the tournament’s significance. “Many tennis players do not intend to compete in them, but for me, it has always been the most important event. Also because of my father, who was an Olympian and competed in rowing in Seoul in 1988. Since childhood, I have heard many positive things about the Olympics from him.” For the unversed, Iga’s father also hails from an athletic background.

    Tomasz Swiatek was a Polish rower and a former Olympian who has made his country proud on multiple occasions. He also competed in the men’s quadruple sculls event at the 1988 Summer Olympics, in which Poland won the “B” final and finished at the seventh spot, overall.     How Spencer Lee earned his place on the Paris Olympic stage

    When Spencer Lee snagged the silver medal, he became the first Iowa alum to reach the championship match since current Hawkeyes coach Tom Brands won gold back in 1996. But Paris for him was about so much more than just the medal; it really brought his unique story into the spotlight. He’s not your typical wrestler—eccentric and introverted; Lee loves Pokemon and fantasy graphic novels.

    In 2021, Lee wrestled through a torn ACL in his right knee, only to tear the ACL in his left during the NCAA tournament. Even with limited movement and the inability to sprawl or shoot, he somehow clinched his third straight NCAA title. Unfortunately, those injuries meant he couldn’t compete in the 2021 Olympic trials. After initially trying to rest, he ultimately chose to undergo surgery on both knees, which kept him out for the entire 2021-22 college season.

    Lee returned to the mat midway through the 2022–23 season and dominated, winning all 20 of his matches until the NCAA semifinals. His journey to the Paris Olympics was no walk in the park, either. In the U.S. Olympic trials, he faced off against former Iowa wrestler Thomas Gilman, who had won bronze in Tokyo. Lee won the best-of-three match 6-3 and then pinned Gilman to take the national title.

    But that victory didn’t automatically secure his spot in Paris; he also had to finish in the top three at the World Olympic Games Qualifier in Istanbul. There, he showed his dominance, winning all four matches with an impressive combined score of 42-11, earning his ticket to the Olympics! In a nutshell, Spencer Lee’s skills have turned his Olympic dreams into a reality!

    Serbia Olympics judo athlete Nemanja Majdov banned for 5 months for making sign of cross at Paris Games

    Serbian judo world champion Nemanja Majdov vowed not to apologize after he was hit with a five-month ban for making the sign of the cross before he competed at the Paris Olympics. 

    Majdov was accused of violating the International Judo Federation’s religious code for “having shown a clear religious sign when entering the field of play” and was barred from participating in “all tournaments, camps and preparations.”

    Footage captured Majdov touching his forehead, stomach and then both shoulders as part of the Christian gesture ahead of his bout against Greece’s Theodoros Tselidis on July 31. 

    “15 days ago I received a decision that I was suspended for 5 months by the World Judo Federation (IJF) for violating their religious codes,” Majdov said on Instagram. “More precisely, because of [making a sign of the cross] when entering a match at the Olympic Games.

    Majdov was also punished for “refusing to bow” to Tselidis after he lost the Round of 16 elimination match, according to the IJF on Wednesday. He will be eligible to return to competition in early 2025.

    The IJF forbids athletes from displaying religious signs near the field of play and has “zero tolerance for any form of discrimination or provocation that may impact our athletes’ performance.”

    “With 205-member national federations, each representing a different country or recognized territory (associate members), it is the duty of the IJF to ensure that the field of play is reserved for judo and governed exclusively by the rules of our sport,” the organization said in a statement.

    The IJF claimed Majdov was warned in April 2018 and February 2022 for “breaching the IJF code of ethics” — but he refused to apologize for honoring his faith and chose not to contest the warnings. 

    “True, in the defense letter of the disciplinary proceedings I did not want to apologize… and of course I did not, nor will I ever, although I did not even know what the punishment could be,” Majdov said.

    “The Lord has given me everything, both for me personally and for my career, and he is number 1 for me and I am proud of that. And that will not change under any circumstances. Glory to Him and thanks for everything.”

    When he learned he was banned, Majdov was the world’s third-ranked judoist in the -90kg weight class. He won a gold medal at the European Judo Championships in 2023 and earned silver honors at this year’s tournament. 

    “Nothing new for me personally, just a new page in my career and a new life experience. I’m sorry that such a beautiful and difficult sport like judo has fallen to such things,” Majdov said. 

    “God gave me a great career, 7 European and 3 world medals. When I started, I dreamed of winning at least one big medal and thus succeeding in my life and the life of my family, who sacrificed everything for my career. He gave us a lot more, and even borrowed too much so that I would bow my head in front of them when it came either-or.”

    Majdov’s show of faith came one day after the Paris Olympics faced intense backlash over its opening ceremony, which featured a drag show version of The Last Supper.

    The segment featured 17 performers — including three familiar “Drag Race France” competitors — behind a long table, resembling Leonardo da Vinci’s famous painting of Jesus Christ and his disciples sharing a final meal. 

    In July, an Olympics spokesperson told The Post that creative director Thomas Jolly “took inspiration” from the Renaissance artist before walking back the stunning admission. 

    Organizers said the segment depicted a “great paean feast in which the gods of Olympus take part.”

    “Clearly there was never an intention to show disrespect to any religious group. On the contrary, I think (with) Thomas Jolly, we really did try to celebrate community tolerance,” spokesperson Anne Descamps said during a press conference.

    “Looking at the result of the polls that we shared, we believe that this ambition was achieved. If people have taken any offense we are, of course, really, really sorry.”

    In the fourth season of Emily In Paris, our beloved fish-out-of-water, Emily Cooper (Lily Collins), broke format when she hopped a plane for Rome. Though she was ostensibly there to work and open a new office for Agence Grateau, she had no trouble fitting in some play and a little bit of romance, as well. 

    It was a refreshing shift from the usual Parisian drama we’ve become accustomed to (and fallen in love with) in Emily In Paris, and we certainly didn’t mind being introduced to her new love interest, Marcello (Eugenio Franceschini). But as the season came to an end, and we re-engaged our brain from its lovely little stupor, we immediately went hunting to see whether it has been renewed for a new season. 

    And blessedly, it has! Lily Collins announced on Monday that Emily In Paris will be returning to Netflix for a fifth season. In the days since, we’ve learned a little bit more about whether it will be based in Paris or not. 

    “We’re thrilled with the incredible response to this season of Emily in Paris and excited to return for a fifth to continue Emily’s adventures in Rome and Paris!” creator Darren Star tells Tudum (a publication run by Netflix). He elaborated, saying that Emily will definitely have a presence in Rome this season, but that doesn’t mean she won’t be returning to her life in Paris, as well. 

    Appearing on Good Morning America for the announcement, Collins explained her hopes for Emily in the new season. “Marcello is a whole other adventure that we want for Emily because we ultimately want Emily to be able to have a better work/life balance,” she says. “We want to have Emily be able to smile without condition. We want to see her beyond her vacay mode. And he comes at that perfect time.”

    It’s a relief but not a surprise that the show is returning for another season, given its success. According to Tudum, Emily in Paris ranked  #1 on the Netflix Global Top 10 when it premiered in August, and had 19.9 million views in its first four days. That was enough to secure the Top 10 in 93 countries, where it has remained ever since.

    Season four was a welcomed change from previous seasons, and honestly, it was one that we didn’t even realise we needed until the first episodes aired in August and we found ourselves rooting against Gabriel. In Marcello, we watched a charming romance unfold, and that’s one of the big reasons we tuned in. 

    “I feel like they have a real spark and a real connection and a real romantic connection,” agrees Collins. “A lot of that’s going to continue to play out next season.”

    A premiere date and cast list is still to be confirmed, but we’ll update you as we learn more about Emily In Paris season five.

    Tom Cruise pulled off his epic Hollywood stunt at the 2024 Paris Olympics for free.

    The president and chairman of the 2028 Games in Los Angeles, Casey Wasserman, raved about the “Top Gun” star’s participation during the CNBC x Boardroom: Game Plan panel at the Fairmont Miramar hotel in Santa Monica, Calif., on Tuesday.

    “He finished filming ‘Mission: Impossible’ at 6 p.m. in London, got right on a plane. He landed in LA at 4 a.m. and filmed the scene where he pulls onto a military plane,” the entertainment executive said, per the Hollywood Reporter.

    Wasserman raved that “every step of the way, [Cruise] got more involved and more engaged” and ultimately did the pretaped stunt for free.

    “We’re like, ‘Well, there’s no way we’re getting this. We’re going to get four hours of filming time. We’ll do the thing … with the Hollywood sign, he’ll hand the thing off and he’s done. Maybe we’ll get the other stuff, and the rest will be just a stunt double.’ About five minutes into the presentation, [Cruise] goes, ‘I’m in. But I’m only doing it if I get to do everything,’” he recalled.

    The actor, 62, stunned viewers on Aug. 11 when he closed out the Paris Olympics and handed the torch to LA, where the next Summer Games will be held.

    Cruise launched himself from the top of Stade de France and landed on the field, where he grabbed the Olympic flag.

    He then took the flag from LA Mayor Karen Bass and Olympic gymnast Simone Biles and rode off into the streets of Paris before getting on a plane near the Eiffel Tower.

    The video later showed the movie star flying the symbolic flag to California and skydiving to the iconic Hollywood sign before adding the famous five colored Olympic rings to it.

    “Thank you, Paris! Now off to LA,” he posted on X at the time.

    Cruise has yet to publicly discuss his preparations for the death-defying stunt.

    However, TMZ reported that he was the one who had approached the committee and expressed interest in getting involved in the closing ceremony.

    Emily In Paris Is The Brain Bleach Television I Need In 2024

    At the end of the day, when I settle on my couch with a glass of Malbec and a Caramilk Twirl, there is only one type of television I want to watch: brain bleach. I love watching shows that urge me to leave my brain at the door, delivering the sugary sweetness my battered mind needs after a day of, you know, living through 2024. 

    In short, I task the TV with cleansing my mind of every unpleasant and unsettling image I saw that day, and for a brief time, it works.

    It’s cackling at the TV when a Bachelorette tells off her one-time beau. Or quietly saying “so true” to myself when an agent on Selling Sunset laments their multi-million dollar-a-year commission rate. It’s being puzzled when Kendall Jenner misunderstands the basics of cutting a cucumber. But more than anything, it’s watching Lily Collins’ Emily Cooper canter around Paris with nary a thought in her gorgeous little head. 

    In my opinion, Emily In Paris has all the makings of a terrible TV show: repetitive storylines, a vapid cast of characters, outlandish outfits that make no sense, shameless and long-winded advertorials, and the inability for any character names (or storylines) to stick in my brain. 

    It is utterly un-memorable television, and that’s exactly what makes it so special. 

    The first half of the fourth season was released by Netflix on August 15, and as of September 12, part two is officially available to stream as well. (Don’t get me started on the split release schedule or why I believe they should just embrace week-to-week drops instead.) Following the part one release, social media was immediately awash with a similar sentiment about the show. 

    “Beyond excited my girl Emily in Paris is back,” Tweeted @popphits. “I’ve watched every episode and have not a single memory of last season, the names or any characters or anything else aside from the fact she has a job in Paris. It’s perfect TV. May it run for 1000 seasons.”

    The Internet is in agreement: Emily In Paris is silly and that’s why we love it. It’s been this way since the beginning. The first season was released on October 2, 2020, at a time when we were all at home with not much to do aside from bake focaccia and worry about the state of the world. In Emily’s overly earnest and extremely American characterisation, not to mention her confusing social media presence, we were all entranced. 

    Her Instagram posting and immediate virality was the first eyebrow-raiser (though, sadly, there has been little mention of Influencer Emily in season four). The outfits are the second.

    It’s a show that’s never taken itself too seriously, but the frenetic energy in much of the costuming isn’t achieved by chance. Every outfit comes courtesy of lead costume designer Patricia Field, who was behind the iconic looks in the original Sex and the City series and Devil Wears Prada film. At times, the outfits in Emily In Paris have been critiqued for being unrealistically extravagant for a junior marketing manager or being generally chaotic, but many have hypothesised that this chaos has been done to match the character’s own life.

    Emily is living in a foreign city and navigating a new dating pool and two cute suitors (Gabriel and Archie — two characters whose names I had to Google just now), working in a French office with high standards, and all while ducking and diving through endless hi-jinks. 

    Not every character has outrageous style though. With every bucket hat or froufrou gown Emily wears, Sylvie (played by Philippine Leroy Beaulieu) struts in wearing a chic pair of pumps and a pencil skirt. Camille’s (played by Camille Razat) wardrobe is one we’d love to settle into, with a classically French and slightly preppy vibe that speaks to my own tendency towards timeless styles that still make a statement about my personal style. 

    The good (and the bad) fashion in Emily in Paris is entrancing and gives us something to park our minds on after switching it off as the TV switches on. 

    Of course, the style isn’t the only thing that keeps me locked in — I’m also oddly passionate about the cyclical storylines that feel delightfully repetitive. I wouldn’t normally say that about a show, where the same missed connection-style tropes and will-they-won’t-they relationships carry on for seasons. 

    But with Emily and Gabriel (and Emily and Archie, and perhaps now Emily and her new Roman date), I find myself rooting for her. Not to be with him in the end (definitely not), but to find the guy who will see through her chaos and into her heart. To stick through all of her hair-brained marketing ploys to her well-meaning intentions.

    It’s earnest to say so, but in Emily, I see a people pleaser who allows her heart to guide her into scenarios that are impossible for any party to come out of unscathed. In Emily In Paris, I’ve learned that there is no limit to the number of times I can be entertained by a shower gaffe or overheard conversation. So, I’ll of course keep rotting on my couch for six hours at a time when a new batch of episodes drop, because that silly girl is simply delightful TV.

    The entire fourth season of Emily In Paris is now available to stream on Netflix.

    Vinesh Phogat has alleged that the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) chief
    PT Usha meeting her at the Paris Olympics soon after the
    wrestler was disqualified was part of politics and the photo shared on social media was done without her permission.

    Ahead of the gold medal bout at the Paris Olympics, Phogat was found to be 100 grammes overweight at the weigh-in and was subsequently disqualified.

    At the time, Phogat, her coach, and support staff had made
    numerous efforts across the night to help her cut weight, including chopping the wrestler’s hair and trying to draw out blood, but nothing came to their rescue.

    In the aftermath, Phogat was pictured with IOA president and former athlete PT Usha in what was the first photo of the wrestler from the French capital.

    “I don’t know what support I got from there. There was politics happening there. That is why I was left heartbroken. People are telling me to reverse decision on retirement but who should I do it for? Everywhere there’s politics. You are on the bed where you don’t know what is going on, going through the worst phase of your life and then there is someone who is there to take photos without permission, to post on social media and say we’re together, that’s not united,” she said in an interview.

    In another part of the interview, Phogat said IOA’s support in her appeal to overturn the disqualification came later and as a third party. Instead, she had to personally
    file an appeal for a silver medal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

    “Harish Salve Sir joined the case a day later. The case was filed by India or Vinesh? Vinesh. Obviously. The lawyers in Paris filed the case on my behalf. It wasn’t done by the Indian government, they were the third party. We represent our country and then the government oversees us. Why do associations and governments send athletes? So we can represent every resident at every tournament, at every location. They were looking to make media bytes,” stated the wrestler in the interview.

    “You cannot expect positive results from
    Sanjay Singh,” continued Phogat on the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president and their claims of being in talks with United World Wrestling (UWW). “There is no doubt (about his intentions). We cannot trust him. He is a dummy candidate of
    Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. WFI still runs at Brij Bhushan’s home. Anyone with the power can go check,” she added.

    Vinesh’s appeal at the CAS for a joint-silver was dismissed. Since, she’s
    retired from wrestling and
    joined the Congress party ahead of the assembly election in her home state of Haryana.

    The 30-year-old has been fielded from the Julana assembly segment for the upcoming polls.
