    Tyler Warren ‘a great example of what a Penn State football player is,’ posts record-breaking game | Penn State Football News

    Everyone says records are made to be broken, and one was when Drew Allar found Tyler Warren from Washington’s 3-yard line for a 2-yard gain late in the fourth quarter, giving Warren the Penn State single-season record for receiving yards by a tight end.

    The previous record was held by Mike Gesicki, who recorded 679 receiving yards in 2016. Warren left the Nittany Lions’ 35-6 win over the Huskies with 681.

    “To be in that conversation with as many great tight ends who have played here and that I’ve played with is special to me,” Warren said. “That’s kind of what makes it special to me is knowing the guys that have been here and how talented Penn State tight ends are, so that’s kind of why (the record) means so much to me.”

    Warren didn’t only break Gesicki’s single-season receiving yards record, he also broke Gesicki’s record for most single-season receptions by a tight end in Penn State history with 58.

    Those aren’t the only records Warren has broken this season — James Franklin said there’s “about 33 more.” As a result of his record-breaking season, Warren was named a semifinalist for the John Mackey Award, given to the nation’s top tight end, and a finalist for the Paul Hornung Award, given to the most versatile player in college football.

    “I don’t see how this guy doesn’t win the Mackey Award and the Paul Hornung award,” Franklin said. “They would be proud of that guy representing their award. He does everything right on and off the field, he’s done it that way since he stepped on campus, so just a great example of what a Penn State football player is.”

    After losing to Ohio State last week, one of the biggest complaints Penn State fans had was the lack of involvement from Warren. The Nittany Lions had the ball inside the 5-yard line and didn’t attempt to get the ball into the tight end’s hands once, something Franklin said Penn State should’ve done.

    To remedy that, Penn State gave Warren the ball at the goal line twice. The first time, Warren jumped over the entire Washington defensive line to put the ball across, which he joked was a bit scary, but the end result was all that mattered.

    “I was up there for a little while. There’s a point where I was getting a little worried,” Warren said. “I did have to stretch out a little bit, but getting six points in that situation is what we want to do, so I was happy with it.”

    Warren tallied his second rushing touchdown of the game on Penn State’s next drive, and finished the contest with three rushes for seven yards on top of eight catches for 75 yards.

    “Obviously you can see how many ways we got him involved today, run-game wise, pass-game wise and even some of our option stuff,” Allar said. “We just try to get him involved in the game plan as much as we can, because we know what type of player he is and how much he helps our offense just generate explosive plays in general.”

    Warren has cemented himself as a Penn State great, but the work doesn’t stop for the senior, who was disappointed with his fumble in the third quarter and a few other plays.

    “(I think the offense) did a great job,” Warren said. “In the second half, that’s on me stopping that first drive with that fumble, so that’s something I got to work on.”

    Regardless, Warren showed Saturday what’s been clear all season — the sky’s the limit for the senior tight end, who the Nittany Lions are always trying to involve.

    “He’s our best playmaker on offense and the best tight end in the country,” Allar said. “We’re going to get him involved in the game somehow, in some way, in some form or capacity … Just getting him easy completions. He’s hard to bring down. There weren’t many cases where one guy brought him down today.”

    The Buckeyes were fortunate to survive mediocre Nebraska at home. The offensive line is a problem now that left tackle Josh Simmons is out for the season, and the playoff might not be such a sure thing.

    6. Tennessee (6-1) (6)

    Tennessee has back-to-back layups at home: Kentucky followed by Mississippi State. It’s time for a confidence boost before a trip to Georgia on Nov. 16.

    7. Texas A&M (10)

    The Aggies are the biggest surprise in college football. They are headed to their first double-digit win season in 12 years, and sit alone atop the SEC. Mike Elko is a National Coach of the Year frontrunner.

    8. Miami (8-0) (7)

    The Hurricanes have played down to the competition in recent weeks, but they couldn’t drop down to the depths of Florida State. This was a rare laugher for Miami, which sent the Seminoles deeper into the abyss at 1-7.

    9. Clemson (6-1) (8)

    Louisville nearly upset Notre Dame and Miami. It has the offensive firepower to upset Clemson if the Tigers aren’t ready to go.

    10. Notre Dame (7-1)

    The Irish’s Week 1 win over Texas A&M has aged like fine wine, and they handed Navy its first loss in impressive fashion Saturday. Notre Dame has rebounded well from the shocking loss to Northern Illinois.

    Jaipur: Chhatarpal Singh, group general manager (technology) at RajComp Info Services Ltd, a govt-owned entity based in Yojana Bhavan, drew the attention of Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) to his extravagant lifestyle by posting photos of luxury vehicles and foreign tours on Facebook.
    The ACB conducted searches at 10 locations associated with Singh in Jaipur, Delhi, Ghaziabad and Hanumangarh on Saturday.The search continued at two locations in Delhi and Ghaziabad on Sunday.
    Sources revealed that Singh was placed on awaiting posting order after ACB raids. The raids were part of an investigation into allegations that Singh amassed wealth disproportionate to his known sources of income. During the raids, the ACB uncovered various high-value assets, including luxury vehicles such as a Porsche and a Land Rover Defender.
    “We received confidential information about his wealth, and when we launched an investigation, the first thing we noticed was his Facebook posts boasting of luxury vehicles and expensive trips,” said an official.
    Sources said that Singh had a penchant for luxury cars and an extravagant lifestyle. He is known to have connections within the bureaucracy, and some police officers were his schoolmates and close friends.
    Initial investigations suggest that the Porsche car Singh posted about on social media was bought second-hand, while a Land Rover Defender was purchased for 1.3 crore in the name of a close friend of his. Of the purchase price, 30 lakh was paid in cash, while 1 crore was secured through a loan.
    Chhatra Singh also frequently travelled abroad and stayed in expensive hotels. His father was a doctor, and he was married twice. His first wife resides in a house in Sodala owned by Chhatra Singh’s family, while his second wife lives in a luxury apartment on Ajmer Road.
    During the raid in Vaishali Nagar, Ghaziabad (UP), luxury cars like Porsche and Defender were found, and these cars were registered in someone else’s name.
    On Monday, the ACB will inspect bank accounts and lockers. The ACB found eight bank accounts during the search, along with three lockers in Delhi, Ghaziabad, and Hanumangarh. The team will inspect these bank accounts and lockers on Monday, October 21.
    In the FIR registered by the ACB, the total wealth was estimated to be about Rs 2.30 crore, about 85 percent more than known sources of his income. This doesn’t include the value of expensive cars and bikes. “The cars and bikes are registered in the name of other people. We will issue notices to the registered owners and summon them for questioning,” said the officer.

    Tesla posts first quarterly increase in deliveries, but shares slump with investors hoping for more

    Low interest financing, sweet lease deals, price cuts and free charging boosted Tesla’s global deliveries in the third quarter, the first increase this year for the electric vehicle maker.

    The Austin, Texas, company said Wednesday that it delivered 462,890 vehicles from July through September, bolstered by loans as low as 1.99%, and $299 monthly leases on the Model 3, its least expensive vehicle. It delivered 435,059 vehicles during the same period last year.

    The figures for July through September came in slightly higher than analyst estimates of 462,000 for the period, according to data provider FactSet.

    However, shares of Tesla Inc. dropped sharply in morning trading, down nearly 4%.

    The deliveries were “good and a step in the right direction,” wrote Dan Ives of Wedbush, but that there would be pressure on the company’s stock because investors had been hoping for even better.

    “Overall, this is a clear improvement from the first half and we believe getting in the range of 1.8 million for the year is still the key and important bogey,” Ives said.

    Tesla has struggled much of the year to sell its aging model lineup as growth in electric vehicle sales in the U.S. and Europe slowed due to concerns with range, price and the ability to charge on trips.

    Falling sales early in the year led to once-unheard of discounts for the automaker, cutting into its industry leading profit margins. Analysts estimated that Tesla’s average vehicle sales price was $42,500 for the third quarter, the lowest price in four years.

    The sales decline likely will pull down third quarter earnings when they are announced on Oct. 23.

    Tesla’s sales decline comes as competition is increasing from legacy and startup automakers, which are trying to nibble away at the company’s market share.

    Nearly all of Tesla’s sales came from the smaller and less-expensive Models 3 and Y, with the company selling only 22,915 of its more expensive models that include X and S, as well as the new Cybertruck.

    Wedbush analyst Dan Ives wrote in a note to investors Tuesday that third-quarter sales would bring a rebound as China sales continue to increase and price and demand stabilizes.” As China continues to heat up on the demand story for Tesla with favorable leasing/financing terms and pent-up demand in the region, we are confident that we will see a significant growth figure in the region,” he wrote.

    Europe will continue to be slow with macroeconomic pressures, and U.S. demand should stabilize, Ives wrote.

    But BNP Paribas Exane said in an investor note that long term expectations of the market are somewhat high for Tesla. The company said its sales estimates for 2026 and 2027 “remain 10% to 15% below the street, respectively.”

    Tesla is scheduled to unveil a purpose built robotaxi at an event next week.

    MARQUETTE — The Northern Michigan University women’s soccer team bounced back from a tough loss to the No. 1 team in the country to roll past Davenport in the Wildcats’ opening GLIAC weekend of the season.

    Playing at home, NMU lost to top-ranked Grand Valley State 1-0, allowing the only goal more than an hour into the game, before bouncing back for a 3-0 victory over the Panthers.

    Northern stands 3-2-1 overall and 1-1 in the conference with a GLIAC road trip scheduled later this week. The Wildcats travel to Chicago to play Roosevelt for the first time at 3 p.m. EDT Friday, then work their way around the southern end of Lake Michigan to take on Purdue Northwest in Hammond, Indiana, at noon EDT Sunday.

    Northern returns home the following weekend for more conference matches, hosting Ferris State on Friday, Oct. 4, and Saginaw Valley State on Sunday, Oct. 6.

    Here is a rundown of this last weekend’s play:

    On Friday afternoon at the NMU Soccer Field, the nation’s No. 1 team improved to 4-0-1 when Ella Kleiver scored her first goal of the season in the 66th minute. Teammate Taylor Reid gained control of the ball and sent it to Kleiver, who got the ball just under Northern goaltender Sally Patton, according to a game account provided by NMU Sports Information.

    In her third start this season, Patton finished with five saves as the Wildcats actually outshot the Lakers, 21-14 overall and 7-6 in shots on goal. In the first half, Patton made an impressive save around the 29-minute mark, leaping to tip the ball away from the high right corner, according to NMU SI.

    Four of Patton’s saves came in a scoreless first half as GVSU had a 4-3 shots on goal advantage before NMU turned the tables in the second half despite not scoring, holding a 4-2 shots on goal edge then.

    Corner kicks were nearly even with Northern getting seven and Grand Valley six.

    In addition to Kleiver’s goal, the other memorable thing about this game was a lengthy lightning delay called with just under 15 minutes to go, about 10 minutes after the goal.

    When play resumed, NMU got off seven shots without an answer from the Lakers, but couldn’t get one in past GVSU goalie Cailynn Junk, according to NMU SI.

    Madison Bilbia, Justina L’Esperance and Angelina Perritano led the Wildcats with four shots apiece, while Bilbia and Brooke Pietila, who had three total shots, each took two shots on goal.

    The Wildcats were blanked despite recording eight shots from inside the box throughout the game and seven unanswered in the final stretch after play resumed. This shutout broke a 17-game scoring streak for NMU, which was last left with a zero in their scoring column during a scoreless home draw vs. GVSU on Sept. 29, 2023.

    NMU 3, Davenport 0

    On Sunday afternoon at the NMU Soccer Field, the statistics showed a fairly even game, but the play — and the scoring — proved the Wildcats were dominant from start to finish, according to NMU SI.

    “We were pretty close to (a complete 90-minute) performance, and I think we did a good job at managing the game,” Northern head coach Jon Sandoval said in an NMU SI account of the game. “We were not great … but good teams find a way (to win) when they aren’t playing their best, and we did that.”

    Patton made three saves to score the shutout, her second as a Wildcat, as Sandoval’s teams are now 29-3-7 at home since he took over head coaching duties early in 2020.

    Northern showcased strong offensive plays and solid defense, according to NMU SI, as Hannah Kastamo opened the scoring with her second goal this season in the 22nd minute.

    Pietila initiated the scoring play with a strong service from a corner kick, allowing teammate Irene Kiilunen to expertly return the ball into the box. This paved the way for Kastamo, who seized the opportunity to score.

    Then barely 13 minutes later, the Wildcats’ Molly Pistorius initiated a breakaway, racing past defenders to take a shot before DU goalkeeper Elizabeth Wolter made the save. Quick to react, Northern’s Allison Kroll hustled in for the rebound and scored.

    By halftime, NMU not only had a 2-0 lead, but was outshooting the Panthers 12-2, including 5-1 in shots on goal. Northern also had the only three corner kicks of the opening half.

    Things evened out in the second half, but Northern still got the only goal of the final 45 minutes. In the 66th minute, Pietila struck from just outside the box, powering the ball into the bottom right corner, according to NMU SI.

    Down the stretch, Davenport’s Madison Fant managed to slide the ball past Patton, sending it out of her reach and toward the left post. But just as it looked poised to go in the net, Northern’s Maria Storm stepped in at the last moment, clearing the ball away.

    Nevertheless, DU held 11-4 overall shots and 3-2 shots on goal advantages in the second half to even up the final statistics quite a bit.

    Pietila now has 15 career goals as a Wildcat, while Pistorius’ second assist this season ties her for the team lead in that category.

    Another post also mentioned, “One thing that didn’t work in favour of Tupperware is their durability. They were sturdy, loyal, stood the heat and test of times, and stayed in your kitchen despite being faded and scratched, proving their utility.”

    FACT FOCUS: Posts falsely claim video shows Harris promising to censor X and owner Elon Musk

    After a nationwide suspension of billionaire Elon Musk’s X platform in Brazil, social media users — including former independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. — are misrepresenting a years-old video of Vice President Kamala Harris to falsely claim that the Democratic presidential nominee has threatened to censor both X and Musk.

    Here’s a closer look at the facts.

    CLAIM: A video clip portrays Harris as saying that she will shut down X if she wins the 2024 presidential election and that Musk has “lost his privileges.”

    THE FACTS: That’s false. Harris was referring to Trump long before Musk bought Twitter and rebranded it as X.

    The clip is from 2019 and shows Harris speaking with CNN host Jake Tapper after a Democratic primary debate, discussing whether then-President Donald Trump’s profile should be removed from the platform, called Twitter at the time, and how there needs to be increased accountability for social media companies.

    Kennedy, who on Aug. 23 suspended his presidential bid and endorsed Trump, used the clip in an X post as alleged proof that Harris was talking about Musk, stating: “Can someone please explain to her that freedom of speech is a RIGHT, not a ‘privilege’?” He also provided his own interpretation of Harris’ comments on social media sites in general as follows: “If they don’t police content to conform to government-approved narratives, they will be shut down.”

    The post had been liked and shared approximately 200,300 times as of Tuesday.

    Another popular X post that shared the video simply reads: “Kamala will shut down X if she wins.” It has been liked and shared approximately 105,000 times. Other social media users claimed that Harris was speaking in support of a Brazilian Supreme Court justice who made the decision last week to block X.

    In extended footage of the interview, part of CNN’s post-debate analysis on Oct. 15, 2019, Tapper asked Harris: “So, one of the topics that you chose to talk a lot about, especially confronting Sen. Warren on, was your push, your call, for Twitter to suspend the account of President Trump. Why was that important?”

    Tapper was referring to the moment in the debate when Harris criticized then-fellow Democratic candidate Sen. Elizabeth Warren for not urging such a suspension. Twitter did eventually ban Trump’s account in January 2021, citing “the risk of further incitement of violence” after the deadly insurrection at the U.S. Capitol, with multiple other social media platforms kicking him off around the same time. Musk restored Trump’s account in November 2022 after he bought the platform.

    Harris responded during the interview that Trump had “proven himself to be willing to obstruct justice” and that what he says on Twitter “impacts people’s perceptions about what they should and should not do.”

    She continued: “And as far as I’m concerned, and I think most people would say, including members of Congress who he has threatened, that he has lost his privileges and it should be taken down.”

    Harris did not call for the platform as a whole to be shut down. Rather, she advocated for increased accountability.

    “The bottom line is that you can’t say that you have one rule for Facebook and you have a different rule for Twitter,” she stated. “The same rule has to apply, which is that there has to be a responsibility that is placed on these social media sites to understand their power. They are directly speaking to millions and millions of people without any level of oversight or regulation, and that has to stop.”

    The exchange is reflected in CNN’s transcript of the coverage.

    The Harris campaign directed an Associated Press inquiry about the false claims to a Democratic National Committee spokesperson, who declined to comment. Representatives for Trump and Kennedy did not respond to a request for comment.

    Brazilian Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes ordered X blocked last Friday for refusing to name a local legal representative, as required by law. His decision was unanimously upheld by a court panel on Monday. X had removed its legal representative from Brazil on the grounds that de Moraes had threatened her with arrest. The platform will stay suspended until it complies with de Moraes’ order and pays outstanding fines.
