  • Tennessee high school football predictions in Columbia area for Week 6

The Tennessee high school football season has reached its midseason.

Here are the top Columbia high school area football games in Week 6 of the TSSAA regular season with predictions for each.

Watch Tennessee HS football games on NFHS Network

    Game of the week

    Tullahoma (2-3, 1-1 in 5-5A) at Columbia (3-2, 1-1)

    Time: 7 p.m. When: Friday

Columbia’s defense has been strong so far this year, but it will face a test when Tullahoma comes to town. Columbia’s secondary will be key, tasked with slowing down receiver Khani Johnson and the Wildcats’ offense, which has scored at least 21 points in every game this season. A solid defensive showing along with another impressive performance on the ground from Justis Haggard should see the Lions improve to 2-1 in Region 5-5A.

    Prediction: Columbia 24, Tullahoma 20

Watch on NFHS Network:Tullahoma at Columbia

More:Why Columbia Central football running back Justis Haggard is poised for a breakout season

    Columbia Academy (3-2) at Ezell-Harding (2-3)

    Time: 7 p.m. When: Friday

Expect plenty of points from Columbia Academy in Week 6, as it takes on an Ezell-Harding team that’s struggled on both ends of the ball this season. This likely means a big game from running back Montae Baldwin, but look to quarterback Stephen Nieves for a standout performance as well. On defense the Bulldogs should impress once again, after holding DCA’s typically high-powered offense to seven points last week.

    Prediction: Columbia Academy 45, Ezell-Harding 17

Watch on NFHS Network:Columbia Academy at Ezell-Harding

Columbia Academy's Nixon Love breaks a tackle during the Bulldogs' preseason football scrimmage against Wayne County on August 1.

More:Transfer Stephen Nieves passes Columbia Academy football past Friendship

    Spring Hill (1-4, 0-1 in 5-5A) at Lawrence County (1-4, 0-2)

    Time: 7 p.m. When: Thursday

After its first win of the season last week, Spring Hill could find itself in a battle against Lawrence County, with both sides looking for a first win in regional play. While Lawrence County’s defense has been shaky at times this season, the Raiders may struggle to keep up with the production of the Wildcats’ run game, led by Carter Pettigrew.

Prediction: Lawrence County 24, Spring Hill 17

Watch on NFHS Network:Spring Hill at Lawrence Co.

    Lewis County (2-3, 1-2 in 5-2A) at Mt. Pleasant (5-0, 3-0)

    Time: 7 p.m. When: Friday

After holding Summertown to 13 points last week, Mt. Pleasant will need another staunch defensive outing against Lewis County. Lewis County’s offense has found a rhythm recently, scoring 76 points over its last two games, but Mt. Pleasant has the defensive talent to slow the Panthers down. With the variety of weapons the Tigers have on offense, anyone could step up and have a big game, but keep an eye on JP Easterling after he ran for three touchdowns last week.

Prediction: Mt. Pleasant 28, Lewis County 14

Watch on NFHS Network:Lewis Co. at Mt. Pleasant

Mt. Pleasant coach Kit Hartsfield speaks with Jalen Smith on the sideline during the Tigers' 34-20 win over Spring Hill in Week 2 of the TSSAA football season.

More:Tennessee football recruit Jayden McClure catches TD pass from brother with Vols gloves

    Independence (0-5, 0-1 in 6-6A) at Ravenwood (5-0, 1-0)

    Time: 7 p.m. When: Friday

Independence’s gauntlet of a schedule continues against Ravenwood, one of Class 6A’s top teams. While the Eagles have improved on offense after two scoreless games to start the season, the Raptors defense has allowed just 33 points through five games. Expect another strong defensive outing from Ravenwood, led by Matt Anderson and Auburn commit Donovan Starr.

    Prediction: Ravenwood 28, Independence 7

Independence's Brody Bullock dives over a tackler during the Eagles' preseason football scrimmage against East Nashville on August 6.

More:How Independence football’s Eli Baumann became better defensive back by playing rugby

    Summit (1-4, 0-1 in 6-6A) at Franklin (3-2, 1-0)

    Time: 7 p.m. When: Friday

The Spartans offense has struggled to produce as of late and that trend could continue against Franklin, which has only allowed 17 points over the past two weeks. Summit’s success in the run game will be the determining factor. If Mason McEhaney and Dillon Pierce can each rack up plenty of yards on the ground, the Spartans could pull the upset. A Franklin win puts the Admirals in a prime spot for a playoff berth.

    Prediction: Franklin 31, Summit 10

Watch on NFHS Network:Summit at Franklin

Summit's Mekhi Bell looks to the sideline during the Spartans' opening game of the 2024 TSSAA football season against Spring Hill, which they won 28-16.

More:What 6-foot-6 DL Mekhi Bell brought to Summit football win, including six pass deflections

    Summertown (4-1, 2-1 in 5-2A) at Harpeth (2-3, 1-2)

    Time: 7 p.m. When: Friday

Despite suffering its first loss of the season last week, Summertown’s defense continued to impress, and that trend should continue against Harpeth. Summertown had begun to find its form on offense heading into last week’s game, and while Mt. Pleasant held the Eagles to 13 points, expect quarterback Jaden Stoll to rekindle the fire this week.

Jaguars vs Bills Expert Predictions for Monday Night Football Week 3

Week 3 of the 2024 NFL season concludes with a doubleheader on Monday Night Football.

More news: Vikings Receive Massive Update on QB Sam Darnold Injury

First, the 0-2 Jacksonville Jaguars head to Buffalo to take on the 2-0 Bills. Then, the 1-1 Washington Commanders take on the 0-2 Cincinnati Bengals.

The experts at Newsweek Sports have made their predictions for both games (click here for Commanders vs. Bengals). Here are the predictions for Jaguars vs. Bills.

    Josh Allen, Trevor Lawrence
JACKSONVILLE, FL – NOVEMBER 7: Quarterback Josh Allen #17 of the Buffalo Bills shake hands with Quarterback Trevor Lawrence #17 of the Jacksonville Jaguars during the coin toss before the game at TIAA Bank Field…

    Don Juan Moore/Getty Images

Matt Levine: The Jaguars are entering this game with some level of desperation after starting the season 0-2. However, having to play in Buffalo against the Bills is never easy and it will be more of the same struggles for Jacksonville. Buffalo takes down the Jaguars and puts head coach Doug Pederson on the hot seat.

    Prediction: Bills 27, Jaguars 17

Jeremy Hanna: Both sides have great quarterbacks with Trevor Lawrence and Josh Allen and offenses to match. But the Bills have one of the most surprisingly effective defenses right now, especially with Von Miller seemingly having a resurgence this season. Buffalo is going to shut down Jacksonville’s offense just like they did with Miami a week and a half ago.

    Prediction: Bills 31, Jaguars 17

John Robinson IV: The Bills will beat the Jaguars as their tandem of quarterback Josh Allen and running back James Cook will wear down Jacksonville. Their defense will shut down Trevor Lawrence and company.

    Prediction: Bills 24, Jaguars 3

Ricardo Sandoval: The Bills dominated their division opener last week, and with 10 days of rest, they should do the same to the lowly Jaguars. The Jaguars are led by former No. 1 overall pick Trevor Lawrence, but they have not looked great. The Jaguars are ranked 29th in the points per game, compared to the Bills, ranked No. 2, averaging 32.5 points per game. The Bills should have another easy win on Monday.

    Prediction: Bills 31, Jaguars 17

Eva Geitheim: Bills over Jaguars because even though the Jaguars have been a sneaky kryptonite against the Bills, the Bills are a more balanced team this time around.

    Prediction: Bills 27, Jaguars 20

James Brizuela: The Bills continue to show they might be the team to compete with the Kansas City Chiefs for the AFC crown. Though the Jaguars proved to be tough against the Dolphins in Week 1, they are not the team everyone hoped they would be. Expect the Jaguars’ defense to contain the Bills for a bit, but not the entire game once Josh Allen gets cooking.

    Prediction: Bills 28, Jaguars 17

Noah Camras: Unfortunately, we’re going to have a unanimous winner on Monday night. The Bills are the much better team on both sides of the ball, and Josh Allen is going to make sure his team moves to 3-0 to open the season. Playing in front of the Bills Mafia will make this game a blowout.

    Prediction: Bills 31, Jaguars 14

How to Watch Jaguars vs Bills Monday Night Football

  • Full ‘MNF’ predictions, odds: Commanders-Bengals, Jaguars-Bills

Full ‘MNF’ predictions, odds: Commanders-Bengals, Jaguars-Bills

Monday’s slate for Week 3 of the NFL season features not one, but two matchups — Washington at Cincinnati, and Jacksonville at Buffalo.

Which players from these four teams will step up in the spotlight? Here is my favorite “Monday Night Football” player prop bet from each game:

    Commanders vs. Bengals prediction

    (7:30 p.m. ET, ESPN)

Last year, the Giants ranked 30th in offensive DVOA, 30th in points per game, and 29th in yards per game, and it did not improve much, if at all, on that side of the ball in the offseason.

Yet, the Commanders allowed Daniel Jones to throw for 178 passing yards, two touchdowns, and zero interceptions in Week 2.

Washington also allowed Baker Mayfield to toss four touchdowns in its first game of the 2024 season.

So, what do you think Joe Burrow will do to Washington?

Burrow and the Bengals may have had a slow start to the season, losing at home to New England, but they quickly returned to form against Kansas City, nearly beating the defending champions on the road.

Burrow threw for 258 passing yards and two touchdowns against the Chiefs in Week 2.

Now, he faces a Washington team that has received the second-worst defensive grade in the 2024 season, per Pro Football Focus, despite playing against two mediocre offenses (Giants and Tampa Bay).

The Bengals look to avoid an 0-3 start.
The Bengals look to avoid an 0-3 start. USA TODAY Sports via Reuters Con

Additionally, star wide receiver Tee Higgins returned to practice late this week, suggesting he will be available on Monday night. Higgins’ return will give Burrow yet another receiving weapon to target against this Commanders secondary, arguably the worst unit in the league.

Burrow should carve the Commanders en route to at least a two-touchdown performance in the air.

Recommendation: Joe Burrow Over 1.5 Passing Touchdowns (-136, BetRivers).

    Jaguars vs. Bills prediction

    (8:15 p.m. ET, ABC)

Despite having Josh Allen — one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL — under center, Buffalo has been hesitant to air the ball out; Allen has actually averaged just 21 passing attempts through his first two games.

A portion of Allen’s low passing volume can be attributed to the fantastic play of running back James Cook, who has logged two rushing touchdowns through the first two weeks.

However, most of Buffalo’s hesitancy to throw as much as it has in the past few seasons is undoubtedly due to losing its top two receivers (Gabe Davis and Stefon Diggs) in the offseason.

A team’s passing volume also might decrease if an offensive line can’t protect a quarterback in the pocket, but that is not the case with Buffalo.

Jaguars-Bills is another key game on the "Monday Night Football" doubleheader.
Jaguars-Bills is another key game on the “Monday Night Football” doubleheader. AP

Per PFF, the Bills have the eighth-highest pass block grade so far this season; they have allowed the fewest pressures (6) and second-lowest pressure percentage (12.2 percent) in the NFL.

Simply put, this Buffalo offense will look different than in past years. Allen’s passing volume will likely be lower, and the offense will have less consistent success.

Regarding this matchup, the Jaguars secondary has not been great, but it has not performed like a bottom-five unit, which many projected it would be this season.

    Betting on the NFL?

Jacksonville is desperate for a win after starting 0-2, so expect a sense of urgency, particularly on the defensive side of the ball.

Recommendation: Josh Allen Under 21.5 passing completions (-135, FanDuel).

Why Trust New York Post Betting

Andrew Norton handicaps the NBA, WNBA, NFL, college basketball and football, UFC and golf. During the 2022-23 NBA season, he achieved a standout 14.1% ROI, cashing 60% of his NBA spread picks and leading Tallysight in its SportsIQ metric.

University Star’s sports section 2024 football season predictions – The University Star

    David Cuevas, Sports Editor

Prediction 11-1; Sun Belt Conference Champions, Bowl game victory

Texas State enters arguably the biggest season in its program history. With the addition of the reigning Sun Belt Player of the Year, quarterback Jordan McCloud, and the return of running back Ismail Mahdi, who led the nation in all-purpose yards in 2023, and wide receiver Joey Hobert, I believe Texas State’s offense will be more dynamic and less turnover-prone than last season, allowing the team to achieve the success expected of them.

The Bobcats will go 4-0 in non-conference play, including knocking off I-35 rival UTSA and Arizona State. In conference play, Texas State will dethrone Troy but will suffer a loss against Old Dominion on the road in week seven.

Despite the one loss, I predict Texas State will win the rest of its conference games, including its first-ever Sun Belt Championship, and clinch a college football playoff spot to cement the greatest season in program history.

    Brendan Fielding, Assistant Sports Editor

Prediction 12-0; Sun Belt Conference Champions, Bowl game victory

Texas State has gone undefeated in conference seasons four times, the most recent being in 1982. This season could be special.

McCloud is rightfully the transfer with the most buzz. On the other hand, looking at Kinne’s recruiting power in the previous offseason shows improvement, and he didn’t ease up this year.

Kinne’s recruiting positively impacted the coaching staff this season with the addition of wide receivers coach Chad Morris. With Mahdi leading the FBS in all-purpose yards in 2023, Morris’s addition and his connection to Hobert could prove to be a threatening offense.

    Jacob De Luna, Sports Reporter

Prediction 12-0; Sun Belt Conference Champions, Bowl game victory

This is the year for the Bobcats to change the narrative about Texas State’s football program. The maroon and gold possess an offensive powerhouse looking to improve even further, a revamped defense and an underrated special teams unit. This provides Texas State with a recipe for success.

The Bobcats will begin their statement year by defeating I-35 rival UTSA for the first time in school history. They will then claim a non-conference victory by beating Arizona State on a nationally televised Thursday night game

In seemingly the biggest game of the year, the Bobcats will take down the defending Sun Belt Champions, the Troy Trojans. The Bobcats will need some help to make the College Football Playoff as even with an undefeated season, they will hold less bidding favor than more coveted programs.

    Max Martinez, Sports Reporter

    Prediction 9-3; Bowl game victory

After a historic 2023 season, Texas State looks to bring its new quarterback to light and stun everyone. I believe the Bobcats will finish with a record of 9-3 with a big upset win against Arizona State.

I believe Kinne will lead this team to a second straight bowl game and winning season, along with wide receivers coach Chad Morris and wide receiver Joey Hobert.

There will be multiple other breakout candidates like Jordan McCloud, but we already knew he would be productive. I think the turning point in the season will be early on if we beat Arizona State. Then The Bobcats will gain confidence going into every other game.

    Jude Botello, Sports Contributor

Prediction 12-0, Sun Belt Conference Champions, College Football Playoff Berth

Texas State woke up the conference with last year’s success, and now it is time to take what is rightfully theirs. After years of coming up short, the Bobcats will finally be able to crown themselves kings of the Sun Belt. Led by McCloud and Mahdi, the offense will surely see the end zone often.

Texas State takes down UTSA for the first time. After being deemed “Little brother” to the I-35 neighbor, the Bobcats will finally settle the score against the Roadrunners.

This time around, the Bobcats will have the reigning Sun Belt Player of the Year to lead the offense; sure to find receiver Joey Hobert, being the clear number one in the receiver room, Hobert will improve on his performance from last year in the Alamodome when he posted one reception for six yards.

It will be a tight game determined on the defensive side of the ball, and players like Torey Spears will be integral to adding a win to the record. Spears had a season-ending injury in practice after playing just three games last season and will be sure to make plays all season long to make up for lost time.

UTSA left a bad taste in Kinne’s mouth, and getting to a conference championship takes execution in every aspect of the game. Beating UTSA will light a fire under the team that propels them this season.

    Daven Meredith, Sports Contributor

Record 11-3; Loss in Sun Belt Conference Championshi, Bowl game victory

The Bobcats will meet and exceed expectations, but not without growing pains along the way. The Bobcats will produce a 10-2 record, suffering two losses against Old Dominion on the road and Arkansas State at home.

Offensive coordinator Mack Leftwich’s scheme and offense, along with junior running backs Mahdi and Lincoln Pares’ thunder and lightning approach to the backfield, will bolster the Bobcats to the Sun Belt Conference Championship but will fall short due to a defense that will see a retooling after being ranked 12th in the Sun Belt in total defense in 2023.

Despite the Sun Belt title loss, Texas State will have back-to-back bowl win seasons for the first time in program history. The Bobcats will finish the 2024 season 11-3 overall, entering a vital offseason in year three under Kinne.
