Customer Alleges Swiggy Instamart Delivered Underweight Vegetables, Reddit Reacts

A Reddit user has slammed Swiggy Instamart for allegedly delivering underweight vegetables, sharing photos of the same as well as screenshots of his chat with the Swiggy support team. The post has grabbed many eyeballs on social media and sparked discussions about several problems related to ordering groceries online. The Reddit user explained that the incident took place around a month back. “It was getting late and vegetables were out of stock with local vendors and hence I decided to try ordering from Instamart. Prices were a little expensive compared to the local market but it was urgent for which I was ready to pay. One of the veggies (cauliflower) made me check all the other ones for their weight. Most of the vegetables were underweight,” he wrote.

In the photos attached to the post, he has provided additional details. He states that he paid Rs 89 for 1 piece of cauliflower that was supposed to weigh between 400-600 grams. His handheld weighing machine shows that the piece he received weighed only 145 grams. Similarly, he claims that he paid Rs 42 for a quarter kilo of Shimla Mirch (green capsicum), but received only 170 grams. His 1-kilo potato order, for which he paid Rs 46, turned out to be 965 grams, as per the images in the post.

The Reddit user called the Swiggy support “shameless” because “they were not ready to replace the items and were trying to play smart with words for a partial refund.” In the screenshots attached to the post, we get glimpses of his apparent chat with the Swiggy team. He asks for a replacement or a complete refund of Rs 177, but the executives (even after escalation) seem to insist on processing a 50% refund only (equal to Rs 88). The user said that he reported the issue to the government’s Ingram consumer helpline and mailed his bank to reverse credit the amount. He seems to consider this a cautionary tale for the future. He has also warned other Reddit users to beware. He wrote, “Lesson learnt. Do not go by weight stickers on products. Do actually check them and raise complaints when deviations are observed. And of course buy from local vendors, it is cheap and less cumbersome. Do not fall for discounts, you will end up paying more from your pocket.”

Disclaimer: NDTV does not vouch for the claims made in the post by the Reddit user.

The post has received many comments from other users who have allegedly faced similar problems on Swiggy Instamart and other online platforms. Several people claim to have come across such issues with their orders and requests for redressal. Check out some of the reactions below:

“Looks like now I need a weighing scale.”

“I have a digital scale. Got underweight products. Same story, gave me a 50% refund and I agreed. Then I realised, what about the others who don’t have a scale? How widespread is this practice? I wouldn’t even think to weigh it, but that day my son was playing with it and that’s how it came to light.”

No matter how much discounts or or fast delivery is offered, these startups can’t make me buy vegetables from an app haha.

“For the last two years, we have ordered vegetables online every day from quick commerce apps. I think I have to calculate how money these apps looted from us.”

“At least my local vendor gives me 20-50gm more every time and charges a fixed rate for items such as cauliflower and cabbage, irrespective of their size.”

NDTV Food reached out to Swiggy for a comment, but they are yet to respond.

  • Man Claims He Was Scammed By Online Date In Delhi Cafe, Shares Story On Reddit

Man Claims He Was Scammed By Online Date In Delhi Cafe, Shares Story On Reddit

A Delhi man claimed he was scammed by a woman he connected with online and took to Reddit to share his experience. “On a dating app, I matched with a girl. She insisted on meeting at a public place and then sent Hudson Lane location outside Bagheera cafe. I met this girl outside the Bagheera Cafe on Hudson Lane, and she encouraged me to go in. However, as soon as I walked in, I had a bad feeling,” he wrote in the post.

Upon entering the establishment, the waiter gave them menus and the woman placed her order. After a few minutes, she excused herself to use the restroom, which was actually the fire escape area, the man came to know. When the waiter brought her order, she did not touch the food. She had the vodka shots and the man claims that he later discovered that they were water shots.

The man was left with a huge bill at the end of the date. In the Reddit post, he explains, “She pretended to be getting calls from home, that she would have a headache in less than ten minutes, and to want to leave. Without touching any food or beverages, she wants me to pay the bill and depart as well. But before I could do anything, she left the cafe, and the waiter quickly brought me a bill for Rs 17170. When I ask for a discount, they say they only give 10% off food items, but they force me to pay Rs 16000. When I give them my card, they say there will be an additional 4% charge, which is how they got me to pay with cash.”

He adds, “This seems to be a large-scale scam because a few hours later when my friend and I went there, we noticed the same girl at another table. When we attempted to enter the cafe, security stopped us and refused to let us in because they knew the girl was defrauding other patrons”.

The Reddit user also alleged that local police had a part to play in this scam. “I lost Rs 16000 and don’t know how to recover my money,” he wrote. He cautioned other people against visiting this “gloomy location”. In the comments, many people criticised the man for falling for what they consider a very “common” scam. Check out some of the reactions below:

“How’s it that this scam is going on and on and on for at least a couple of years and one or other man happens to fall for the same.”

“This is a very common scam in Delhi and you still fell for it. Sigh!”

“This is a well-known scam in Delhi, posted in mainstream news channels and so many other forums. You could have escaped this one.”

“Babe wake up there’s another dating scam post on Reddit.”

“Bro, were you living under a rock? This scam has been all over the internet.”

“At this point, we need a Reddit sub-sidebar of restaurants to avoid.”

Before this, a Reddit post explaining how a Thane man fell for a “Tinder scam” had gone viral. He reportedly received a staggering bill of Rs 44,000 at a restaurant. The incident was shared by his friend, who warned others and posted a picture of the bill. The man’s date ordered a large number of items, including 18 Jagerbombs, two Red Bulls, French fries, salted peanuts, four chocolate truffle cakes, and a special mix. • Alleged Mega Millions Winner Outed as a Fraud on Reddit

Alleged Mega Millions Winner Outed as a Fraud on Reddit

According to their website, the likelihood of scoring the Mega Millions jackpot is slim to none — 1 in 302,575,350 to be exact. With odds like that, it comes as no surprise that shortly after a Reddit user went viral for hosting an ‘ask-me-anything’ (AMA) thread about their alleged Mega Millions jackpot win in 2016, another user quickly debunked their claims. Scroll to learn how the original user was outed as fraud and read a few of their answers from the exposed AMA.

Reddit user’s claims of a 2016 Mega Millions jackpot proved false

After going viral for an AMA post titled “I won the MegaMillions jackpot in 2016,” earlier this week, Reddit user @Opposite-Purpose365 was outed as a fraud by several users

The user claimed to be a resident of Ohio who played Mega Millions whenever the jackpot went over $130 million.

In the initial post, @Opposite-Purpose365 said that, after winning the jackpot, their family members ”filed a lawsuit to try to place me in conservatorship to take control of my assets.”

This claim was a red flag to a few users including @ObjectiveToAFault, who raised questions regarding the original poster’s lack of attorney involvement in familial asset allocation.

One of the most revealing incongruences in the original poster’s story was that, according to the Mega Millions website, no one from Ohio won the jackpot in 2016

@Opposite-Purpose365’s post was reported and has since been removed by the moderators of r/AMA.

Despite the dishonesty of @Opposite-Purpose365’s viral post, the Q&A section of their AMA offered insight into what people are most interested in when it comes to Mega Millions’ winners.

Several users were curious about how the alleged winner’s life changed following their jackpot win.

“The biggest lifestyle change has been moving onto my off-grid, subsistence farm,” said @Opposite-Purpose365. “Buying a farm was always my retirement plan. I simply retired sooner.”

Other users asked if there were any large initial purchases they regret spending the money on looking back.

@Opposite-Purpose365 shared that they almost bought a 98” flat screen but decided against it after reading reviews. Of the purchases they did make, their tractor was one they wished to reverse: “I don’t use it nearly as much as I thought I would.”

The entire thread dedicated to user dishonesty on the website, that the alleged Mega Millions winner was exposed as a fraud did not surprise many Reddit users.

“Are you implying someone on reddit lied? I find that so hard to believe,” said one user replying to the situation with sarcasm. “I think I was only lied to twice in my life. Once was after I was rescued off the Titanic and then after I bought the London Bridge after I found the world’s biggest gold nugget while fishing in Illinois.”

Other users responded more pragmatically, citing several incongruences in the initial poster’s Reddit history.

He also said he was single and 50 in one thread and in another said he was saving money for his future wife and kids he wants one day,” said one user about previous posts on @Opposite-Purpose365’s Reddit account.
