Safe Rides Ahead: Zomato Rolls Out Accelerated Safety Response Program For Delivery Riders

Zomato, India’s food ordering and delivery platform, has launched its Accelerated Safety Response Program, which automatically detects crashes through the delivery partner app. When a collision is detected, the app immediately triggers an emergency call to Zomato’s central response system, which then dispatches an ambulance to the delivery partner’s location. This eliminates the need for manual intervention and potentially saves critical time in emergencies. This launch aligns with Zomato’s commitment to ensuring delivery partner safety and well-being.
Speaking on the program, Anjalli Ravi Kumar, Chief Sustainability Officer, Zomato said, “Sustainability is deeply ingrained in Zomato’s core business ethos. We are steadfast in our commitment to prioritizing the safety and well-being of our delivery partners. The launch of our Accelerated Safety Response system is a testament to this commitment. The feature is designed to provide immediate support and assistance to our delivery partners in times of need. Through such initiatives and programs, we remain steadfast in our commitment to integrating sustainability into every aspect of Zomato’s operations.”
The feature was launched at the second edition of the ‘Sustainability and Inclusivity: Role of the Platform Economy’ Conference, organized by PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI), Invest India, the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) and Zomato. Shri Nitin Jairam Gadkari, Hon’ble Minister, Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, Government of India, graced the event virtually as the Chief Guest. The conference invitees and attendees took the ‘Road Safety’ pledge, committing to prioritize their own safety and actively contributing to the safety of others on the road.
Over the years, Zomato has successfully launched multiple initiatives to improve the well-being of the delivery partners, including the ‘Shelter Project’, real-time weather notifications, the facility to file income taxes, the facilitation of EV renting services, and maternity benefits. About Zomato Launched in 2010, Zomato’s mission is better food for more people. Zomato is a restaurant search & discovery and food ordering and delivery platform.

The European Union demands TikTok’s response to Romanian files suggesting Moscow’s role in vote

LONDON — The European Union said Friday it sent TikTok an urgent request for more information about Romanian intelligence files suggesting that Moscow coordinated influencers on its platform to promote an election candidate who became the front-runner in the presidential election.

The 27-nation bloc’s executive branch is using its sweeping digital rulebook to scrutinize the video sharing platform’s role in the election, which ended with the far-right populist Calin Georgescu coming from out of nowhere to take top spot in the first round of voting.

Declassified files released by Romanian authorities earlier this week suggest that a pro-Russia campaign used the messaging app Telegram to recruit thousands of TikTok users to promote Georgescu.

It is unclear from the intelligence release whether Georgescu was aware of the alleged campaign or assisted in it.

European Commission officials said they asked the video sharing platform to comment on the files and to provide information on actions that it’s taking in response. It’s the second time the commission has asked TikTok for information since the election’s first round of voting on Nov. 24, and comes a day after it ordered the Chinese-owned platform to retain all election-related files and evidence.

TikTok did not respond immediately to a request for comment.

“We are concerned about mounting indications of coordinated foreign online influence operation targeting ongoing Romanian elections, especially on TikTok,” Henna Virkkunen, the commission’s executive vice-president for tech sovereignty, security and democracy, said in a post on X.

TikTok has 24 hours to respond to the EU request, officials told a press briefing in Brussels. Georgescu will face pro-EU reformist Elena Lasconi of the Save Romania Union party in a final vote on Sunday.

“TikTok needs to step up resources to counter information operations ahead of the election weekend,” Virkkunen said.

Georgescu’s unexpected rise in the polls has plunged the European Union and NATO country into turmoil and spurred the authorities to release the files.

Romania’s intelligence services alleged that one TikTok user paid $381,000 to influencers on the platform to promote content about Georgescu. They said they obtained information that “revealed an aggressive promotion campaign” to increase and accelerate the candidate’s popularity.

Some of the thousands of social media accounts used in the campaign were allegedly created years ago but were only activated in the weeks leading up to the first round vote, the files indicated.

‘Homeless People in LA Looking More Fresh Than’ Jake Paul: Presenting Monday Night Football on ESPN Draws Scathing Response From Boxing World

The Denver Broncos secured a thrilling 41-32 victory over the Cleveland Browns on Monday, getting one step closer to their spot in the NFL playoffs. But before the game, Jake Paul stirred up buzz by announcing on social media that he would be presenting Monday Night Football on ESPN. Unsurprisingly, fans had plenty to say about Paul’s unexpected role.

Jake Paul is riding high after his unanimous decision victory over legendary boxer Mike Tyson last month in Texas, a bout that streamed live on Netflix. Since then, ‘The Problem Child’ has been dominating headlines, with a growing list of fighters challenging the Cleveland native to step into the ring. While speculation swirls about his next opponent, Paul’s recent involvement with Monday Night Football has sparked significant criticism from fans.

Turning to Instagram, Paul’s Most Valuable Promotions wrote, “Jake Paul presents Monday Night Football on ESPN…👀🏈,” while sharing a clip to promote the announcement. Meanwhile, on the field, the Denver Broncos pulled off a hard-fought win against the Cleveland Browns despite allowing an astonishing 497 passing yards from quarterback Jameis Winston.

The Broncos capitalized on game-changing plays, including pick-sixes by linebacker Nik Bonitto and nickel corner Ja’Quan McMillian. Rookie quarterback Bo Nix also delivered a standout moment with a jaw-dropping 93-yard touchdown pass to Marvin Mims Jr., securing Denver’s victory in a high-stakes matchup.

Regardless, fans wasted no time reacting to the Instagram post, flooding the comment section with a mix of excitement, skepticism, and criticism.

Fan hopes Jake Paul doesn’t start playing in the NFL

The announcement came as somewhat of a surprise, but the reactions from fans—not so much. One user outright insulted Paul. “You have homeless people in LA looking more fresh than this dude all that money and he cant take time to take care of himself,” the user wrote. Notably, Paul himself is a Cleveland native, but his support didn’t help his team secure the win.

The next user highlighted the obvious. “Cleveland lost too,” the user wrote. It’s worth noting that in 2022, Jake Paul signed a contract with Cleveland Browns, and joined the NFL franchise’s social media team.

Meanwhile, this user suggested people can hate him all they want, but the reality is he is doing big things. “Can hate em all u want he doin big things,” the user wrote. His fight and win over Mike Tyson is among those achievements.

Someone else gave a new nickname to ‘The Problem Child.’ “You mean Fake Paul,” the user wrote. Notably, there were allegations that the Tyson fight was staged, but there is no evidence to support these claims.

Another user put forth their concerns with Paul’s involvement with the NFL. “I hope he’s not planning to play football,” the user wrote. However, with the kind of fame Paul has gathered in boxing, it’s unlikely he would want to move to a different sport.

That said, it appears despite Jake Paul getting involved with MNF, fans didn’t quite like the update. However, the bigger question is, what did you think about it? Did you watch the game?

  • Study Finds Link Between Gut Health And Brains Response To Stress In A Time-Specific Way

Study Finds Link Between Gut Health And Brains Response To Stress In A Time-Specific Way

A study has uncovered how microbes in one’s gut helps manage stress by interacting with the body’s circadian rhythms, or biological clock.

Researchers from the University College Cork, Ireland, found that the trillions of microorganisms in the gut — or the gut microbiome — control the hormones produced in response to stress in a time-dependent manner.

A healthy gut, thereby, helps in creating day-night rhythms in the production of stress hormones, whereas, a reduced gut microbiome leads to a disrupted body clock and is related to altered rhythms in how stress hormones are produced, the team said.

The findings, published in the journal Cell Metabolism, highlighted the importance of maintaining a healthy gut, they said.

The study’s results could also be looked into for developing treatments for mental conditions such as anxiety and depression, which are known to be linked to stress and often involve disrupted body clock and sleep cycles, the researchers said.

“Our research has revealed an important link between the gut (microbiome) and how the brain responds to stress in a time-specific way,” lead researcher John Cryan, University College Cork, said.

“The gut microbiome doesn’t just regulate digestion and metabolism; it plays a critical role in how we react to stress, and this regulation follows a precise circadian rhythm,” Cryan said.

For the study, the researchers looked at mice, which are known to have biological processes and genetic material similar to humans.

The team found an “intricate relationship” between the gut microbes and three regions in the brain forming the HPA axis — the hypothalamus, the pituitary gland and the adrenal gland. The HPA axis is the body’s central stress response system.

The researchers showed that a depletion of the gut microbiome results in an over-activation of the HPA axis in a manner specific to the time of the day. This, combined with changes to the brain’s regions responding to stress and the biological clock, leads to an altered body’s response to stress over the entire day, they said.

Specific gut bacteria, including a Lactobacillus strain (Limosilactobacillus reuteri), were identified as “key influencers” of this body clock-related stress response.

  • College Football’s Response to Heated Sideline Altercation Involving Coach and Player Triggers Fan Outrage

College Football’s Response to Heated Sideline Altercation Involving Coach and Player Triggers Fan Outrage

In college football, fan fury is nothing new. Although it is not new, the coach broke his shit over a player. But, it’s rear. The CFB fans showed this rear scene during today’s Marshall vs. Louisiana-Monroe game. On top of this, ULM’s 5-3 season record following their 28–23 loss to Marshall. In addition to the defeat, the crowd became extremely irate due to the error that occurred.

On November 3, the Barstool Sports podcast Pardon My Take posted footage of a fight between a ULM coach and player with the caption, “ULM offensive line coach lost his shit on a player.” As per the clip, the Warhawks’ offensive line coach, Cameron Blankenship, was seen getting completely crazy about sophomore offensive lineman Drew Hutchinson. Drew should not have been in the designated personnel group for the offensive, since the coach was shouting for him to leave the field. But you never do that to your guys, no matter what.

But it wasn’t the end of the fight. Then, as OL raced to the sideline, the coach was seen pursuing him violently down towards the bench and nearly pushing him. Then, the coach and player were separated by two players who stood between them. However, the coach’s vehement response was not tolerated by ULM Athletics, which issued a statement over X declaring, “This behavior is unacceptable and not how ULM football conducts business. There will be disciplinary action taken against the assistant coach. Because this is a personnel matter, the discipline will be handled internally.”

Similar to the school, fans used social media to vent their frustration regarding the coach. “Fire his a**” was the phrase made by a frustrated fan to prevent such incidents in the future. Another supporter, who was upset with the school’s personnel selection process, asked, “Why would you keep this guy on the staff?” Without making a decision, it appears that the school ought to terminate this employee.

But this is just the beginning of the rage chain. Fans advise to act immediately to prevent a recurrence of similar scenes.

Triggered fans on ULM’s offensive coach

If you are not aware, this is Blankenship’s first season at ULM. And we see him rushing onto the field to shout at a player. Not only this. After furiously tearing off his headset and throwing it to the ground, Blankenship kept shouting at the OL. This is simply unacceptable. We all make errors because we are just human, but such behavior is unacceptable. “The way Blankenship handled himself today *is* unacceptable. I’m glad @ULM_FB is handling it, but he’s probably not the only coach that should be getting media scrutiny today… 🤔” one fan even said.

    Article continues below this ad

Fans shouldn’t take it lightly, either, as this isn’t his first season as a coach. Prior to this, Blankenship was New Mexico’s offensive line coach in 2023. He had previously worked at UAB from 2016 until 2022. And, now, such childish behavior, and schools say it will be handled internally. Really? A fan who was offended by the statement wrote, “This is being handled internally? I guess no need for transparency here, right @ULM_FB.

Hold on, a similar incident involving a coach and player occurred a few days ago. Have you seen it? During the game between Mississippi State and Georgia, Georgia head coach Kirby Smart inadvertently shoved MSU QB Michael Van Buren. However, that incident doesn’t make a lot of hype. Could it be because of Kirby Smart? Anything might be the cause. However, a fan took that reference to say, “Kirby Smart shoved an MSU player, ESPN never even mentioned it.” This argument is likely to continue. There are only a few weeks remaining, so focus on the games.

Laura Woods wades into sport’s trans row to slam Labour peer’s response to Olympic ‘gender tests’ boxers debate – despite death threats to her unborn child when she last spoke out

TNT Sports presenter Laura Woods hit out at a Labour peer on social media on Wednesday as she waded into a debate on transgender athletes in sport.

During a debate in the House of Lords on Tuesday, Labour spokeswoman Fiona Twycross was asked about fairness, safety and equality for women in sport after boxers Imane Khelif and Lin Yu-Ting won gold medals at the Paris Olympics despite allegedly failing gender tests last year.

Addressing the gender row in boxing, Twycross revealed the government had not spoken to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) or boxing authorities as she claimed reporting around the fighters was ‘highly speculative’.

Twycross added: ‘The Sports Council guidance recognises the need for solutions for different sports based on the points that the noble lady raises. They found two diametrically opposed camps which I think are reflected in the Chamber today when it came to inclusion of trans women.

‘And the guidance found that you can’t easily reconcile inclusion with fairness and safety in relation to sport, and it is more straightforward with male sport. The Sports Council also recognised, which I feel strongly your Lordship’s House should as well, that society is changing, and simply keeping the existing arrangements in sport won’t accommodate inclusion and actually won’t serve anyone well.’

Woods revealed in July that she is expecting her first child with Love Island star Adam Collard, and she received death threats to her unborn baby the last time she spoke out on transgender athletes in sport, but she has decided to speak out again

Woods is expecting her first child with former Love Island star Adam Collard and received death threats to her unborn baby the last time she spoke out on the transgender debate, but she still took to X to slam Twycross’s response on Wednesday afternoon in a series of posts.

Her first post read: ‘Crazy discussion in the House of Lords around women’s sport. @Baronessjenkin highlighted a UN study published in August calculated: “By March this year over 600 female athletes in more than 400 events were defeated by trans-identifying males who took a total of 890 medals.”

‘“I’m not aware of that report” was the response from @fionatwycross. The report is entitled: “Violence Against Women and Girls in Sport.” Why isn’t she aware of it?’

Woods continued: ‘Fairness and safety MUST be the MOST important factors in sport. At ALL levels. Including and especially grass routes. This can not keep happening.

‘Transgender people SHOULD absolutely have a place in sport, but NOT at the expense of safety or fairness for women. And it is not up to women to find that solution. These categories should be protected.’

Woods also got involved in boxing’s gender row when the Olympics took place in August after Khelif and Lin went all the way in Paris to claim gold.

On the final day of Olympic competition, The Telegraph’s Oliver Brown published an article titled: ‘Blinded by ideology: Inside boxing row that undermined IOC and tarnished Olympics’.

Woods' original reply to a Telegraph article in August sparked a mass debate in her comment section

Woods’ original reply to a Telegraph article in August sparked a mass debate in her comment section

Brown declared in the article that IOC president Thomas Bach had ‘failed in his duty to protect female athletes by allowing Khelif and Lin to win gold despite failing sex tests’.

A day after the article was published, Woods replied to a post by the author on X as she wrote: ‘Great article Oli’, followed by an applause emoji.

This comment sparked hundreds of replies to Woods, who then argued with several fans via the social media network.

A different comment aimed at Woods read: ‘Actually it isn’t, do a bit more research!’ Woods hit back: ‘Which part?’

Another fan simply wrote: ‘Ewww’, to which Woods replied: ‘What’s eww, Jamie? Be more specific’.

One of the longer tweets aimed at Woods read: ‘Pretty poor – She’s had tests to prove her gender and she was born a woman. No actual evidence of her failing XY tests as well’.

Woods demanded more information as she wrote: ‘Which tests were those and where’s the evidence of that?’

Two days later, Woods revealed she had received online death threats to her unborn baby.

‘Since I replied to this article I’ve had numerous death threats to myself and my unborn child,’ wrote Woods. ‘Questions on my own gender (I’m pregnant so guess that clears that one up) calls for my employers to sack me, threats to my home.

‘I’ve been called a racist, a bigot and a sexist as well as various insults – ****, s**g etc.

‘I’ve also been asked why I haven’t raised any concerns on this topic before? See above for your answer.

‘When there are discrepancies with test results – which could impact the safety of another human being, in an environment that above all else should be fair – questions are quite rightly going to be asked. The answers are still unclear, otherwise this topic would be closed.’

Despite the backlash that she received last time, Woods has decided to express her outspoken views on transgender athletes in sport once more, insisting that women’s rights must be ‘protected’.

  • Football Governance Bill revisions – EFL official statement released in response

Football Governance Bill revisions – EFL official statement released in response

The EFL have welcomed changes to the upcoming Football Governance Bill, which will deliver the Independent Football Regulator.

The bill still needs to go through the full legislative process ahead of becoming law, however, new changes to the planned legislation have seen a major shift.

Newcastle United and Saudi Arabia have been heavily referenced, due to the news that the clause has been dropped in the football regulator legislation, that it would have to take UK foreign policy into account, when deciding on club takeovers. With the requirement “to consider government foreign policy dropped to cement regulator’s full independence.”

Another big change, which is of significant importance to the EFL, is that now the planned legislation will now give the independent football regulator power over Premier League parachute payments.

This has been the official EFL response to the new reframed Football Governance Bill legislation.

EFL Statement on Football Governance Bill – 23 October 2024:

    EFL Statement: Football Governance Bill

    EFL Chair Rick Parry said:

“The EFL welcomes the new Football Governance Bill, and thanks the Secretary of State, Lisa Nandy MP for the genuine commitment and openness she has displayed towards the EFL and its Clubs on this matter since coming into Government. We also appreciate the time which she and her team have taken to consider and understand many of our concerns with the previous iteration of the Bill.

“It has been our long-held view that there is a requirement for Independent Regulation, and we believe the Bill has been framed in a way that will enable the new Regulator to protect and achieve the sustainability of Clubs across the entire football pyramid.

“It is also pleasing that the State of the Game report, which will provide the objective and independent basis for the new Regulator’s work, will be delivered within 18 months. We look forward, in collaboration with our Clubs, to making a significant contribution to this important piece of work.

“Alongside the issue of financial reform, the EFL also recognises the key and leading role it has to play across other areas the Bill addresses, including the role of fan consultation, heritage protection and the commitments made to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion.

“As the Bill now begins its passage through Parliament, we will first take time to scrutinise its full detail and implications for Clubs across the pyramid, including the key issue around the Regulator’s backstop powers in respect of financial redistribution, while at the same time continuing to offer our support and insight to MPs and Peers.

“The EFL’s core purpose is to safeguard the sustainability of our Clubs for future generations of supporters, and the social value they deliver in the communities they serve. We know how much our Clubs matter, but too many face or have faced financial trauma due to their over-reliance on owner funding and overstretching in their attempts to bridge growing financial gaps.

“We have always been clear throughout this process that our intention is not to harm or hinder the strength of the Premier League, and the value which it generates for the wider pyramid, including the EFL and our competitions. Rather, this is about creating a framework for a sustainable and competitive pyramid which fosters sporting jeopardy without financial catastrophe, underpinned by better regulation and fairer redistribution.”

  • ‘I’ve no ego. I want to play great football but also we do go direct’ – Damien Duff delighted with Reds response in big win

‘I’ve no ego. I want to play great football but also we do go direct’ – Damien Duff delighted with Reds response in big win

And Reds manager Damien Duff says he’s happy to live on his nerves and cope with the curve balls as his club enter the last two rounds of games in the season with their leadership of the league table intact.

At one stage on Friday night, when Shels were losing 1-0 at home to Waterford while Derry City were ahead away to Dundalk, the table had a grim look for the Reds and it looked as if they faced a challenge to see out a title challenge which was in danger of fading, on a run of one win in the previous 10 games.

Dan McDonnell and Seán O’Connor look back on a huge night of drama at both ends of the League of Ireland table

But a resurgence by the Reds, with goals from Sean Boyd (2) and Liam Burt, earned them a 3-1 win which allows them carry that two-point lead into next week’s games where Shels are at home to Drogheda United – a side they have yet to beat this season – and Derry are away to an in-form St Patrick’s Athletic.

“We speak about it, the nerves. Was I a bit nervous before the game? Yeah, but I like nerves,” Duff said after that win.

“Every time I pulled the jersey on as a player for whoever I was playing for, I was always a little bit nervous. It always drove me to have a real clarity and aggression in my play – it’s something I always talk about with our lads, the tension, the nerves. They’re going to be there but it has to be a driver. It could be a weight on your shoulders but it’s about striking that fine balance. On Friday, for sure, you’d have to say it drove the lads.”

“I just thought there was a beautiful energy. Granted, there was a beautiful tension in the ground, which is what we want here at Tolka Park. So always had faith, I guess. We knew we couldn’t make any more changes, obviously with the first change in the first half,” he says, referring to the enforced early substitution where Ali Coote had to withdraw, replaced by compatriot Liam Burt, as he also conceded that Shels lacked conviction with first half opportunities.

“We had three or four decent chances I thought. What stood out with Sean’s chances was he was calm, didn’t slash at it, whereas the rest in the first half we slashed at in real desperation to score. You can’t be desperate, you have to be cool as ice. Then the second half, did we create a lot at times? No. But we worked our way back. And the third goal, Liam, he can do that. In the pockets, rolling people, his shooting from distance is elite,” Duff added

“With the penalty, I’ve no ego. I want to play great football and dominate the ball, but also we do go direct.”
