Just opened October 2024: New restaurants, cafes and bars in Singapore this month, Lifestyle News

As a new month begins, it’s the perfect time to dive into a culinary exploration of new restaurants, cafes, and bars that have just turned up on our sunny shores. We’ve got you covered for lunch, brunch, and dinner, and of course fresh, new spots for your nightcap and tipples, all in Just Opened October.

    Restaurants

    Acqua e Farina

Translating to water and flour in Italian, Acqua E Farina is all about the simple authenticity of Italian cuisine. Expect hearty dishes from the North to light and fresh flavours from the South, and everything in between.

Specials from their newest outlet include the Tagliatelle al Cacao con Gamberetti e Nduja (S$36++) which spotlights handmade cocoa pasta tossed in a luscious sauce with a light kick from the spicy nduja salami paste – you’ll want to save your bread to mop up this sauce.

Even pizza is done differently here; the Montanara (S$34++) is fried and baked to a crisp and fluffy perfection and topped with Italian mozzarella, homemade pork sausage, and creamy burrata and deliciously done with a nod to tradition.

    Acqua e Farina. Keong Saik is located at 35A Keong Saik Rd., Singapore 089142, p.+65 9105 2377. Open Tue – Sun 11.30am – 2.30pm, 5.30pm -10.30pm.

    ASU

In a seamless blend of tradition and global techniques, ASU restaurant brings a deep reflection and celebration of Asian flavours and ingredients, with Chef Ace Tan at its helm.

Its opening menu, “Origins,” (S$168++/ person) pays tribute to Singapore’s heritage with a twist on the chef’s childhood favourites like the Crystal Bao which boasts a literal crystal-like sphere and the Shunde Yusheng, inspired by the classic raw fish and porridge.

More than taste and innovation, the chef draws on his Traditional Chinese Medicine roots to meticulously select ingredients which embrace seasonality and nourish the body. And with the restaurant’s stage-like setting, diners are in for a culinary performance — a treat for the eyes and body.

ASU is located at 30 Labrador Villa Rd, Singapore 119189, p.+65 6278 6364. Open Wed – Sun from 6pm. Closed Tue.

  • Cedar Club House Is One Of The Most Beautiful Restaurants In Delhi. Hows The Food And Drinks? Heres My Experience

Cedar Club House Is One Of The Most Beautiful Restaurants In Delhi. Hows The Food And Drinks? Heres My Experience

If you are a regular Instagram user, chances are you’ve stumbled upon the beautiful visuals of Cedar Club House, a recently opened restaurant and bar on Tolstoy Lane in Janpath, Delhi. With its Renaissance-inspired architecture and modern culinary flair, Cedar Club House promises an immersive dining experience that pleases both the eyes and the palate.

As I stepped into Cedar, I was immediately taken by the striking contrast of bold black and white patterned flooring paired with a marble fountain, setting an inviting tone. The wrought iron chairs and lush green interiors lend an air of elegance, while the vibrant bar area buzzed with high-energy music.
But I had planned for a quieter dinner. Fortunately, Cedar offers two exclusive private dining rooms, ideal for intimate gatherings. Walking along a cosy alley, I sat at the other dining area. As I settled in, I was pleasantly surprised to discover another bar in the dining area.

Latest and Breaking News on NDTV

Cedar’s Cocktails Get A Thumbs Up:

I decided to kick off my culinary journey with a Cedar House Punch-a bourbon cocktail that expertly balanced richness and refreshment. My dining companion opted for Kaffir Lime-Infused Gin & Tonis which quickly became a favourite on the table. We also sampled the Caribbean Long Island Iced Tea, a vibrant blue concoction that was enough to liven up my spirits.

Latest and Breaking News on NDTV

    Cedar’s Food Review:

Cedar’s menu is a delightful fusion of global cuisine delicacies. From classic Indian dishes to innovative international flavours, there’s something to satisfy every palate. For dinner, I indulged in the Tandoori Prawns, which were perfectly cooked and had a smoky, spicy flavour. The Chicken Yellow Curry Dimsum was another highlight, with its creamy texture and delicious oyster sauce flavour. The Malabar Coast Fish, paired with coconut curry and rice, was a satisfying and flavorful dish. I also recommend the Angara chicken tikka, which is a unique twist on the classic dish.

Latest and Breaking News on NDTV

While the appetizers and main courses were excellent, the dessert course fell short of expectations. I sampled the Pistachio Tres Leches and Baked Cheesecake, but neither captured my sweet tooth’s affection.

    Overall Impression

Cedar Club House is a beautiful restaurant with a unique ambience and good food. However, there is room for improvement in the dessert department and mosquito control. Nevertheless, it stands as a fantastic destination for weeknight dining, merging vibrant music and stunning interiors into a memorable experience. If you’re looking for a high-energy dining experience with delicious food and cocktails, Cedar Club House is definitely worth a visit.

    What: Cedar Club House
Where: Where: Cedar Clubhouse, 48, ground floor, Tolstoy lane, Janpath, New Delhi

15 Budget-Friendly Restaurants In Chennai Where You Can Eat More And Spend Less

It’s inevitable, a trend that we’ve seen across India’s largest metros. Most of Chennai’s wallet-friendly options have sprung up closer to the city’s premier colleges or shopping districts. Many of these spots began as campus hangouts or first dates on a budget. Whether you’re looking for burgers of chaat or kathi rolls, you are covered. The city also has a long list of restaurants that have provided comfort to large numbers of residents who have moved from other parts of India and now call Chennai home or simply ‘Namma Chennai’ (Our Chennai). From Andhra meals to Bengali food to platters from the North East, Chennai’s budget-friendly meals have something for everyone.

Here Are 15 Pocket-Friendly Places To Eat In Chennai:

    1. Murugan Idli Shop:

This restaurant chain might have its roots in Madurai but it has grown to become one of the city’s most popular restaurant brands. While their soft, sicky idli served with a whole bunch of accompaniments is their signature dish, we’d also recommend their sakkarai (sweet) Pongal and the onion uthappam.

    2. Bengali Fun Foods:

Located close to Chennai’s IT Corridor that’s home to residents from all over India, this is one of the most popular affordable Bengali eateries. Bengali Fun Foods offers a choice of platters and meals. From koshar mangsho to bhetki fish fingers and fish curry meals, there’s quite a lot in the mix.

    • Where: MGR Pradhana Salai, Kandanchavadi

    3. Tic Tac:

One of Chennai’s best-known Kathi roll brands dates back to the early 1980s and has moved around the CBD area in the city. The brand now operates multiple outlets that serve the same flaky Kathi rolls that are stuffed with their signature fillings making it a great grab and go option.

    4. Mylai Karpagambal Mess:

One of the popular traditional restaurants in Mylapore, this local institution is close to the iconic Kapalaseshwarar temple. Most regulars swear by their filter coffee. The restaurant sources coffee seeds, roasts, grinds and brews its own signature filter  coffee. We’d also recommend checking out their ‘evergreen’ Keerai (spinach) vadai and sinful Badam halwa.

    • Where: East Mada Street, Mylapore

    5. Shree Gujarati Mandal:

One of the best meal deals in the busy Broadway area close to the Madras High Court, this nondescript eatery is not easy to locate (The Chennai Metro is the easiest way to get here). This eatery offers one of the most authentic and filling Gujarati thalis in Chennai and a meal for two is unlikely to cost beyond Rs 400 even with a few add-ons.

    6. Rotiwala:

This tiny eatery is a comfort food haven for many Chennai residents who’ve moved from Northern India. It’s common to find regulars stop by and pick up rotis or stuffed parathas (Their aloo paratha is our pick) on their way back from work. The eatery also offers a few seats for a quick meal.

    • Where: Thiruvalluvar Nagar, Thiruvanmiyur

     7. Glen’s Bakehouse:

One of Chennai’s most popular recent campus hangouts, Glen’s follows the same template that has made it a popular option in Bengaluru. The food menu is uncomplicated – burgers, sandwiches and small plates are easy to share. It’s their desserts including their popular red velvet cake that are the big draw.

    • Where: 5th Avenue, Anna Nagar

    8. Ajanabi:

Many Chennaites consider Ajanabi the OG chaat shop in Chennai. Ajanabi’s famous samosa, jalebi and bhel have stayed in the same zone for over five decades and continue to draw regulars to its location in one of the city’s first shopping ‘complexes’ in the Egmore area.

    • Where: Fountain Plaza, Pantheon Road

    9. Writer’s Cafe:

This cafe is positioned as a literary hub where writers and the city’s creative folk can bond over coffee and quick bites. The cafe also doubles up as a Higginbotham’s bookstore. Their rectangular, thin-crust pizzas and pastries are both popular sharing options. This chain has also taken it upon itself to offer burn victims a second chance; they have been trained by a Swiss bakery chef.

    10. Pasta Square:

Tucked away behind one of the city’s best spots for pani poori – Gangotree, and across the road from Stella Maris college, this pocket-friendly outlet offers everything from nachos to shakes to pizza. But it’s their comforting pasta that is the popular draw.

    • Where: 6th Street Gopalapuram, Off Cathedral Road

    11. Anna Fish Fry:
