Dodge County 2, Mound Westonka 1

KASSON — A battle of two of the state’s top teams played out exactly as the latest Class 1A girls hockey state rankings would indicate: A one-goal game went down to the wire.

Freshman Daisy Harens started the scoring with a first-period goal that put top-ranked Dodge County up for good. She then set up teammate Hannah Peterson for what held up as the game-winning goal in the second period.

Veteran goalie Ida Huber took it from there, the senior Long Island University commit making 20 saves to help the Wildcats hold off No. 3-ranked Mound Westonka/Southwest Christian 2-1 at the Dodge County Ice Arena on Saturday afternoon.

It was a matchup of teams that could potentially meet in late February at the Xcel Energy Center, both goalies stood out.

Savannah Blahowiak made 26 saves for Mound Westonka, while Huber stopped six shots in the first period, then seven in each of the final two periods.

No. 1 Dodge County (7-0-1 overall) remains one of two unbeaten teams in Class 1A, along with Marshall (10-0-0).

Mound Westonka drops to 4-3-0 overall. Its losses have come against the top two teams in Class 1A — Dodge County and No. 2 Holy Angels — and against Section 1, Class 2A power Northfield.

Dodge County returns to action at 7 p.m. Thursday at No. 9-ranked Blake. The Wildcats then go to Class 2A rival Owatonna on Saturday, Dec. 14, before hosting No. 5-ranked Orono on Tuesday, Dec. 17.

  • Turning the Lifestyle Test Results into Meaningful Action

Turning the Lifestyle Test Results into Meaningful Action

How can tailored insights transform industries, shape policy, advance research, and enhance community engagement? This question was at the heart of the recent PSLifestyle workshop series, where stakeholders from various sectors gathered to explore actionable solutions for a sustainable lifestyle.

The Lifestyle Test, developed as part of the PSLifestyle project, has emerged as a powerful tool that identifies key sustainability hotspots and consumer behaviour patterns across Europe. Since its launch in 2023 in eight European countries, over 300,000 tests have been taken, resulting in more than 27,000 personalised plans aimed at reducing individual footprints.

In October and November 2024, the project team conducted targeted workshops with industry leaders, policymakers, academics, and civil society organizations (CSOs) using the input from the Lifestyle Test as a starting point. Each session focused on topics relevant to the participants, showcasing the Lifestyle Test’s potential applications across diverse contexts.

    Key Insights from the Workshops:

    • Food and Circular Economy: Food emerged as one the most relevant topics for participants of the industry-focused workshop, alongside Circular Economy and product repair services. They discussed the possibility of using the tool for employee engagement or paring it with demographic data to gather further insights into specific consumer segments for sustainable product development and communication.
    • Policy Development: The Lifestyle Test was recognised as a valuable tool for understanding citizens’ motivations, identifying barriers, and supporting the creation of informed policies. Participants also explored its potential as a tool for policy makers to communicate sustainability goals and serve as role models for change.
    • Advancing Research: Academics highlighted research gaps in sustainable lifestyles and proposed new ideas, noting the Lifestyle Test’s practicality and ease for data collection. Suggestions included expanding insights into specific behaviours and barriers to change, addressing targeted research questions, and increasing engagement with less environmentally inclined individuals to broaden the perspective.
    • Community Engagement: CSOs focused on strategies to bridge the gap between people and sustainability. Suggestions included embedding the Lifestyle Test into school curriculums, training programs, and community initiatives to foster broader engagement. The participants also emphasised the importance of shared responsibility for sustainability, highlighting the potential of the Lifestyle Test to proactively share data with decision-makers and promote balanced accountability.

    A Shared Vision for Sustainability

“The workshops underscored the interconnectedness of various actors, highlighting the need for a coordinated effort to achieve successful outcomes in sustainability,” says Arlind Xhelili, Project Manager at the CSCP, responsible for overseeing our efforts in the PSLifestyle project. “By considering consumer needs and the practicality of real-world applications, we can develop solutions that are easier to be accepted and integrated into daily life.”

  • ‘The results are worth the journey’

‘The results are worth the journey’

One person desperate to declutter their life took to Reddit to plead for advice.

“I know I need to get rid of like, at least 60% of what I own,” they said. “I have so much junk laying around. I’m getting better at letting go, but it’s not enough. I need to speed it up.”

The r/minimalism community came forward to offer advice and support, with many noting that while the process isn’t always easy, clearing out your home can be rewarding.

“I would ask yourself if the item was something you would re-buy if you lost it,” one wise user replied. “If not, it’s likely not something that’s adding anything to your life.”

“It takes practice and nerves of steel,” another added. “I suggest you go slowly. You are pressuring yourself too much to speed it up. Most people do not understand that to do an entire house and garage declutter can take months or even years.”

Someone else suggested: “First, take a deep breath. This process is overwhelming by design, the clutter we have all lived with for years is exhausting and breaking down that clutter is doubly so. It’s a massive overhaul! But the results are worth the journey.”

A decluttered home can help you feel more relaxed, with less occupied space leading to greater clarity of thought.

Also, having fewer items means fewer things to clean and store, which can save you time and energy that you can put toward other projects.

What’s more, a decluttered space will make you less likely to buy new things. This will save you money, stop overconsumption, and reduce waste. The latter point is extremely important, as the world’s landfills are already overflowing and producing copious amounts of planet-warming pollution.

  • How to Combine Liposuction With a Healthy Lifestyle for Lasting Results

How to Combine Liposuction With a Healthy Lifestyle for Lasting Results

Liposuction is an excellent way to eliminate excess body fat. However, without proper post-surgery maintenance and a healthy lifestyle, the risk of complications or regaining the lost weight increases.

Cultivating sustainable healthy habits is vital to preserving the results of your liposuction. In this article, we’ll explore how to efficiently combine liposuction with healthy living habits to achieve long-term weight-loss results

How to Combine Liposuction With a Healthy Lifestyle for Lasting Results

    Understanding Liposuction

Liposuction is a surgical procedure to remove unwanted fat from specific body areas. It is a cosmetic enhancement meant to improve body shape and appearance. Some common liposuction areas include the buttocks, under the chin, upper arms, abdomen, waist, inner and outer thighs, and chest.

While you can successfully lose weight with liposuction, you must educate yourself about the associated risks of this invasive procedure. From scarring and infection to internal organ damage and blood clot formation, this body contouring procedure carries significant hazards that can become life-threatening if left unchecked.

Hence, you must choose a board-certified, experienced, and trusted plastic surgeon to ensure you’re in safe and qualified hands.

    Benefits of a Healthy Lifestyle

Since your body has undergone a transformative change, treating it with utmost care is essential to ensure a speedy recovery. Living a healthy lifestyle not only helps keep the excess weight off but also boosts your overall well-being.

    1. Diet and Nutrition

How to Combine Liposuction With a Healthy Lifestyle for Lasting Results

Some foods can cause inflammation or disrupt your digestive system, so it’s imperative to avoid them at all costs. Avoid spicy foods, processed foods, refined grains, sugary foods, alcoholic beverages, trans or saturated fats, and caffeine.

Balanced nutrition is vital to recovery and weight maintenance. Increase your intake of lean proteins such as fish, chicken, tofu, and turkey, as they help repair tissues and build muscles. Include fiber-rich food like fruits and vegetables to minimize food cravings and foster digestion. Focus on eating food high in nutrients to ensure your body heals correctly.

    2. Exercise and Physical Activity

While exercise is crucial to maintaining liposuction results, you must wait until your body fully recovers before engaging in physical activity. Get clearance from your plastic surgeon and start with low-intensity workouts like short walks and light stretching.

Whether you’re used to running marathons or lifting heavy weights before surgery, avoid overdoing it, especially during the first few weeks. Once your body has adapted well, gradually increase the intensity of your exercises.

    3. Integrating Liposuction with Lifestyle Changes

In addition to good nutrition and regular exercise, you also need to modify toxic or inefficient lifestyle habits. Some lifestyle improvements you should focus on are getting plenty of sleep, staying hydrated, quitting smoking, and reducing alcohol consumption.

It is also vital that you manage your expectations and set feasible goals post-procedure. Do not assume that your body will transform overnight after surgery or that the results will be evident immediately. Be realistic with your expected outcomes and practice patience.

    Endnote

How to Combine Liposuction With a Healthy Lifestyle for Lasting Results

While liposuction can provide you with your dream body shape, your journey to losing weight should not end after surgery. Adopting a holistic approach is crucial to improving your overall health and well-being.

  • Disney Q4 bolstered by strong results from streaming, ‘Inside Out 2’ and ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’

Disney Q4 bolstered by strong results from streaming, ‘Inside Out 2’ and ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’

Disney’s fourth-quarter adjusted profit beat Wall Street’s expectations, bolstered by strong results from its streaming service and box office success with “Inside Out 2” and “Deadpool & Wolverine.”

Disney earned $460 million, or 25 cents per share, for the period ended Sept. 28. A year earlier the Burbank, California-based company earned $264 million, or 14 cents per share.

Removing certain items, earnings were $1.14 per share. This topped the $1.09 per share that analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research were looking for.

Shares jumped more than 9% before the market open on Thursday.

Revenue climbed 6% to $22.57 billion, but fell a bit short of Wall Street’s estimate of $22.59 billion.

Operating income for the entertainment segment, which includes its movie studio and parts of its television wing, more than quadrupled to $1.07 billion.

This was helped in part by a strong performance from its content/sales, licensing and other segment, which benefited from $316 million in operating income from “Inside Out 2” and “Deadpool & Wolverine.”

The Walt Disney Co. said Thursday that its direct-to-consumer business, which includes Disney+ and Hulu, reported quarterly operating income of $253 million compared with an operating loss of $420 million a year earlier. Revenue rose 15% to $5.78 billion.

The combined streaming businesses, which includes Disney+, Hulu and ESPN+, achieved profitability for the first time in the third quarter.

Disney+ saw a 2% increase in paid subscribers domestically, which includes the U.S. and Canada. It had a 5% rise internationally, which excludes Disney+ HotStar.

Disney ended the quarter with 174 million Disney+ Core and Hulu subscriptions, and more than 120 million Disney+ Core paid subscribers, an increase of 4.4 million over the prior quarter.

Disney said that its improved direct-to-consumer business results were due in part to subscription revenue growth thanks to increased in retail pricing and subscriber growth. Advertising revenue also increased and marketing costs at Disney+ declined.

“This was a pivotal and successful year for The Walt Disney Company, and thanks to the significant progress we’ve made, we have emerged from a period of considerable challenges and disruption well positioned for growth and optimistic about our future,” CEO Bob Iger said in a statement.

Iger was confident about the future of Disney’s streaming platform on the company’s conference call, noting that whenever Disney has success with a movie, or there’s expected success for a movie, like with “Inside Out 2” and “Deadpool & Wolverine,” the viewership for previous films, like “Inside Out” and “Deadpool,” spikes significantly on its streaming service. Iger anticipates this trend will continue in the future.

Mike Proulx, Forrester vice president, research director, is also upbeat on Disney’s streaming business.

“Disney’s very strong quarter, once again, proves that content is what matters most,” he said in an emailed statement. “With better-than-expected subscriber growth and improved profitability, Disney’s streaming business seems to have turned the emerging media corner to cement itself as a maturing growth driver for the future of Disney’s business.”

The Experiences division, which includes six global theme parks, its cruise line, merchandise and videogame licensing, reported operating income dropped 6% to $1.7 billion. While operating income improved at domestic parks and Experiences, it fell for international parks and Experiences.

Disney previously forecast that its fourth-quarter Experiences operating income would fall by mid single digits compared with the prior-year period due to domestic parks moderation as well as cyclical softening in China and less people at Disneyland Paris due to the impact the Olympics had on normal consumer travel.

Looking ahead, Disney anticipates high-single digit adjusted earnings per share growth for fiscal 2025. The company predicts double digit earnings per share growth for fiscal 2026 and 2027.

Last month Disney said that it was tapping Morgan Stanley executive James Gorman to serve as its next chairman, beginning early next year. The entertainment giant also announced that it anticipates naming its new CEO in early 2026.

Gorman will become chairman on Jan. 2, 2025. He will succeed Mark Parker, who is leaving after serving on Disney’s board for nine years.

Disney is searching for a new CEO to succeed Bob Iger. Iger came back to Disney in 2022 after a period of clashes, missteps and a weakening financial performance at the company under his chosen successor, Bob Chapek.

Gorman said in a statement in October that by naming Disney’s next CEO in 2026, it “will allow ample time for a successful transition before the conclusion of Bob Iger’s contract in December 2026.”

Disney is continuing to review internal and external candidates for the CEO position.

In April shareholders rebuffed efforts by activist investor Nelson Peltz to claim seats on the company board, standing firmly behind Iger as he tries to energize the company after a rough stretch.

In June Disney asked a federal appellate court to dismiss its lawsuit against Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis after his appointees approved a deal with the company on how Walt Disney World will be developed over the next two decades, ending the last piece of conflict between the two sides.

As part of the 15-year deal, Disney agreed to invest $17 billion into Disney World over the next two decades and the district committed to making infrastructure improvement on the theme park resort’s property.

  • The Impact Of Lifestyle On Lab Results: What You Should Know Before Your Next Test

Hormonal changes during pregnancy can significantly alter many lab values suspect pregnancy, as this will affect test interpretation.

The Impact Of Lifestyle On Lab Results: What You Should Know Before Your Next Test
What You Should Know Before Your Next Test
VerifiedVERIFIED By: Dr Anurag Bansal, Technical Director, Agilus Diagnostics

    Written by Tavishi Dogra |Updated : November 13, 2024 2:30 PM IST

Laboratory tests are essential for diagnosing ourselves and our overall state of health. However, a large portion of the population is not aware that one’s lifestyle variations dictate such tests’ outcomes and can cause confusion or unnecessary anxiety. It is, therefore, essential to be mindful of how your routine activities might influence the results of the following lab test and the measures you should consider taking.

Key Lifestyle Factors That Affect Lab Results

    1. Dietary Habits: Eating and drinking can substantially impact your lab results. High-fat meals can temporarily increase triglyceride levels, while sugary foods can spike blood glucose readings. For tests recommended under fasting conditions, 12 to 14 hours of abstinence from food should be ensured for accurate reporting. Always follow your healthcare provider’s instructions regarding food intake before a test.
    2. Exercise: While regular exercise benefits overall health, intense physical activity can temporarily alter specific biomarkers, vigorous workouts can affect glucose levels, cholesterol readings, and enzyme concentrations like creatine kinase (CK) or alter electrolyte levels, leading to inaccurate results. It’s generally advisable to avoid strenuous exercise for 24 hours before a blood test.
    3. Alcohol and Smoking: Alcohol consumption can significantly impact liver function tests and blood sugar levels. Smoking affects various parameters, including blood oxygen levels and cardiovascular markers. It’s best to avoid alcohol for at least 24 hours before a test and refrain from smoking on the day of testing.
    4. Sleep Patterns: Lack of sleep may change stress hormone levels and, therefore, influence the results of tests. When people do not get adequate rest, they often have high cortisol levels and poor blood sugar control. Keeping fixed sleeping hours as much as possible is essential, especially days before the lab tests.
    5. Stress: Both mental and physical stress can influence test results. Stress hormones like cortisol can affect various parameters, including blood pressure and heart rate. Practice stress-reduction techniques and try to schedule tests during periods of relative calm.
    6. Medications And Supplements: Prescription and over-the-counter medications can interfere with lab results. Even seemingly harmless supplements can skew test outcomes as they may recommend temporarily discontinuing certain ones before testing.

    Special Considerations For Certain Groups

    • Older Adults: Age-related factors can influence typical lab values. For instance, kidney function and hormone levels may naturally change with age. Healthcare providers consider these factors when interpreting results for older patients.
    • Pregnant Women: Hormonal changes during pregnancy can significantly alter many lab values suspect pregnancy, as this will affect test interpretation.

America Ferrera May Be Moving to England After Election Results

Remember how we said that Oscar-nominated actress America Ferrera was thinking about moving overseas to give her two children the best education possible? Well, now, after the 2024 Presidential election, it seems that may come to fruition sooner rather than later.

In case you need a recap, we got you. Earlier this week, a source told Hello! Magazine that Ferrera has been looking at quite a few places in England for her kids to go to private school, and to uproot their family.

“[She] has been checking out the local private school for her children,” they added, noting how she reportedly went to an open day for a local private school in Barnes for their two kids. “She was seen there at the open day and appeared very happy with what she saw. It’s a school with a lot of celebrity children at it so her kids would fit in very well.”

And now, insiders claim Ferrera may be speed-running this move after Donald Trump won the 2024 Presidential election over Kamala Harris.

Insiders say the “devastated” star is so distraught over the election results, and is looking to move to England for her family, per the Daily Mail.

“America is sick that Donald Trump is President again. She is devastated that Kamala lost. She thought the country she lived in was better than that,” they said, adding how she won’t abandon the US entirely. “She is going to continue to have a presence in the US for work purposes and to fight for Latinas and women, but she will be overseas for family and to benefit her kids’ education.”

They added, “She wants them to have the best opportunities possible and to her, being overseas for that is what is important. She’s not abandoning the US, she is prioritizing her life and focusing on the importance for her kids.”
