  • Mohamed Salah Reveals His Four Football Heroes

Mohamed Salah Reveals His Four Football Heroes

Liverpool superstar Mohamed Salah has opened up on his four footballing heroes during his come-up to becoming a formidable force in the Premier League, with one of his picks taking plenty of fans by surprise.

Salah, 32, owes plenty of credit to the Reds for spotting his talent while plying his trade for Italian side AS Roma. He’s since become one of the English top flight’s modern greats with his penchant for goalscoring an invaluable asset to the Merseyside-based outfit.

But behind every superstar in world football is inspiration. Before the 101-cap Egypt international broke through as one of the greatest Africans to ever play in the Premier League, who was there to be his inspiration?

In the latest instalment of ‘Reds Roundtable’ on Liverpool’s YouTube channel, the one-time Champions League winner spoke about who inspired him in the infancy of his career as a professional footballer.

Brazilian Ronaldo and Zinedine Zidane – both legends of the game in their own right – were name-dropped by the winger. As was Roma legend Francesco Totti, who is widely regarded as one of the best players in the history of Serie A.

“I love the way Ronaldo [of Brazil] was playing and [Zinedine] Zidane and [Francesco] Totti. These guys, I always looked at them and they just enjoy the game.

He also waxed lyrical about Cristiano Ronaldo’s dedication to staying at the apex of his abilities, “Cristiano [Ronaldo] was also the one when I started playing in Europe more, you see the way he dedicated everything to football is insane, the way he looks after himself. You can see everything, his numbers. But these guys I looked at when I was young, and I just wished to play one game with them, or to be like them one day.

It was in the Italian capital where Salah first captured the imagination of his current employers, tempting them to make a bid of £34.3 million in the summer of 2017, and it was while playing for Roma that he had the pleasure of featuring alongside the aforementioned Totti. Sharing the pitch together 28 times, equating to 614 minutes of action, Salah recounted their ‘incredible time’ together, shedding light on his technical abilities and down-to-earth persona.

“I had a good opportunity to play with Totti and I played with him for two years in Rome. It was an incredible time, I just loved it. He was incredible to be fair and his technique was insane. Very, very good person as well.”

  • Expert Reveals How Lifestyle Changes Can Boost Fertility And Increase IVF Success

Expert Reveals How Lifestyle Changes Can Boost Fertility And Increase IVF Success

Infertility can be a difficult journey for couples desiring to become parents. However, advancements in reproductive technology, particularly in vitro fertilisation (IVF), offer hope for those facing challenges in conceiving naturally. IVF, a form of assisted reproductive technology (ART), can be particularly effective for couples dealing with issues such as hormonal imbalances, medical conditions, or age-related factors that impact fertility.

In this article, we explore how making specific lifestyle changes can enhance fertility and improve the chances of a successful IVF outcome, with insights from Dr Sandeep Talwar, a Fertility Specialist at Nova Southend Fertility and IVF in Vasant Vihar, New Delhi.

Lifestyle modifications to improve fertility and the chances of successful IVF:

    Nutrients for fertility

Your diet should include essential nutrients that can enhance your IVF chances. As per the expert, this can include essential nutrients like vitamins, folic acid, zinc, omega-3 fatty acids, and antioxidants to support your reproductive health. “Foods like nuts and seeds are good sources of zinc and can help improve sperm health and fertility in men,” added Dr Sandeep.

    Canva

    Healthy diet

Eating a well-rounded and healthy diet can significantly impact your fertility. Focus more on eating foods like fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean protein, and healthy fats to improve your reproductive health, emphasised the professional. He further explained, “Be mindful of the foods that you are eating during your IVF treatment. Strictly avoid eating processed, packaged, and junk food that contains heaps of fats, sodium, sugar, and preservatives. Limiting them can help reduce inflammation while keeping you healthy and fit.”

    Avoid harmful habits

If you enjoy drinking alcohol or smoking cigarettes, it is important to quit these habits if you want to become a parent. Alcohol and cigarettes can negatively impact your fertility and the success of IVF treatment. “Couples who are actively trying to improve their fertility, conceive, or undergo IVF should adopt a healthy lifestyle and eliminate harmful habits such as smoking or drinking alcohol to promote their reproductive health, advised Dr Sandeep.

    Manage your stress levels

Excessive stress and overthinking about the future or parenthood can take a heavy toll on your fertility. Ensure that you avoid taking too much stress while starting your IVF journey. Adding to this, the doctor stated, “High levels of stress can disrupt your hormones, causing an imbalance that can further affect ovulation and production of sperm in men.” Mindful techniques like yoga and deep breathing techniques can help manage your stress.

    Regular exercise

According to the expert, individuals with poor physical health, such as those who are overweight, are at a higher risk of facing fertility-related issues. Therefore, it is crucial to engage in regular physical activity and exercise to maintain fitness and overall health.

Low-impact or moderate exercises, such as walking, yoga, and meditation, can help alleviate stress and promote hormonal balance. However, it is advisable to avoid high-impact exercises, as they can negatively affect reproductive health and reduce the chances of successful IVF outcomes.

  • Nation’s truckers sound off: Fall 2024 survey reveals key insights on driver satisfaction and lifestyle

Nation’s truckers sound off: Fall 2024 survey reveals key insights on driver satisfaction and lifestyle

BRENTWOOD, Tenn.   Conversion Interactive Agency and People.Data.Analytics (PDA) have recently released their Fall 2024 Driver Survey providing significant insights into the evolving priorities, challenges and sentiments of professional truck drivers in today’s market, offering key takeaways for industry stakeholders.

According to a media release, the survey delves into various critical topics, including assessing the level of optimism among drivers regarding the state of the freight market. It also explores the pivotal factors that lead drivers to contemplate making a change in their employment, and the preferences they hold when exploring new driving opportunities.

An essential insight from the survey highlighted drivers’ approach to job applications. The data showed that 85% of drivers apply to more than one trucking company when seeking a new job, with 39.9% applying to two or three carriers, and 28.3% applying to more than five. This trend demonstrates that drivers are keeping their options open and emphasizes the need for carriers to be swift and proactive in their recruitment efforts.

“With competition for drivers intensifying, recruiting teams must be equipped with the latest tools and technology to stand out and be the first to connect with drivers quickly,” said Kelley Walkup, president and CEO of Conversion Interactive Agency. “Speed and transparency are more critical than ever in the recruitment process.”

The survey revealed a noteworthy trend in driver job search behavior. The percentage of drivers currently seeking employment has surged to 40.7%, the highest level observed since Conversion and PDA began tracking this number.

When exploring why drivers are looking for new opportunities, predictable pay emerged as the top factor, cited by 81.9% of respondents. This was followed by better home time (65.7%) and the need for consistent miles (49.1%). The demand for better benefits saw a significant shift, with a 25% increase in drivers prioritizing improved benefits compared to the Spring 2024 survey. These findings highlight the importance of stability and quality of life considerations for drivers as they navigate an imbalanced freight market.

Driver sentiment about the future of the trucking industry was also captured. When asked if they believed 2025 would be a better year for drivers than 2024, 51.1% of participants expressed optimism. Carriers can use this positive outlook to their advantage by communicating improvements in their freight operations and sharing successes.

Retention continues to be a critical challenge for carriers. The survey showed that only 53.3% of drivers feel valued and appreciated in their current roles. This indicates that carriers must intensify efforts to foster trust, empathy, and transparent communication within their teams. Proactive engagement through tools such as PDA’s feedback platforms can help carriers quickly identify and respond to driver concerns, ensuring they feel heard and valued, according to the release.

“Collecting feedback is just the beginning; acting on that feedback is what truly builds trust,” said Scott Dismuke, vice president of operations at PDA. “When drivers see their concerns are being addressed, it significantly lowers turnover risk and enhances loyalty.”

Another compelling finding from the survey was the trade-off between pay and home time, according to the release. Nearly half of the drivers indicated they would consider job opportunities offering more home time, even if it meant reduced pay. This reflects the ongoing struggle for drivers to balance work and personal life. Carriers should ensure that their recruiters are equipped with strategies to highlight the benefits and trade-offs of different positions clearly and effectively.

Ultimately, the survey’s data shows the need for carriers to leverage technology and innovative tools to enhance recruitment and retention efforts. Prioritizing predictable pay, transparent communication, and understanding what drivers value most can position carriers to thrive in a competitive market.

“Retention strategies that integrate clear, empathetic communication and real-time responsiveness give carriers a true advantage,” Dismuke said. “Ensuring drivers feel valued is not optional—it’s essential for sustained success.”

The Fall 2024 Driver Survey serves as a vital resource for carriers aiming to adapt and stay competitive, according to the release As the trucking industry evolves, listening to drivers and implementing actionable insights remain crucial for long-term success.

  • Research reveals China has built prototype nuclear reactor to power aircraft carrier

Research reveals China has built prototype nuclear reactor to power aircraft carrier

Bangkok — China has built a land-based prototype nuclear reactor for a large surface warship, in the clearest sign yet Beijing is advancing toward producing the country’s first nuclear-powered aircraft carrier, according to a new analysis of satellite imagery and Chinese government documents provided to The Associated Press.

There have long been rumors that China is planning to build a nuclear-powered aircraft carrier, but the research by the Middlebury Institute of International Studies in California is the first to confirm it is working on a nuclear-powered propulsion system for a carrier-sized surface warship.

China’s navy is already the world’s largest numerically, and it has been rapidly modernizing. Adding nuclear-powered carriers to its fleet would be a major step in realizing its ambitions for a true “blue-water” force capable of operating around the globe in a growing challenge to the United States.

Nuclear carriers take longer to build than conventional carriers, but once in operation they are able to stay at sea for much longer because they do not need to refuel, and there is more room on board for fuel and weapons for aircraft, thus extending their capabilities. They are also able to produce more power to run advanced systems.

Right now, only the United States and France have nuclear-powered carriers. The U.S. has 11 in total, which allows it to keep multiple strike groups deployed around the world at all times, including in the Indo-Pacific.

But the Pentagon is growingly increasingly concerned about China’s rapid modernization of its fleet, including the design and construction of new carriers.

China currently has three carriers, including the new Type 003 Fujian, which was the first both designed and built by China. It has said work is already underway on a fourth, but it has not announced whether that will be nuclear or conventionally powered.

The modernization aligns with China’s “growing emphasis on the maritime domain and increasing demands” for its navy “to operate at greater distances from mainland China,” the Defense Department said in its most recent report to Congress on China’s military.

Middlebury researchers were initially investigating a mountain site outside the city of Leshan in the southwest Chinese province of Sichuan over suspicions that China was building a reactor to produce plutonium or tritium for weapons. Instead they said they determined that China was building a prototype reactor for a large warship.

The conclusion was based upon a wide variety of sources, including satellite images, project tenders, personnel files, and environmental impact studies.

The reactor is housed in a new facility built at the site known as Base 909, which is under the control of the Nuclear Power Institute of China.

Documents indicating that China’s 701 Institute, which is responsible for aircraft carrier development, procured reactor equipment “intended for installation on a large surface warship.” as well as the project’s “national defense designation” helped lead to the conclusion the sizeable reactor is a prototype for a next-generation aircraft carrier.

Chinese President Xi Jinping has tasked defense officials with building a “first-class” navy and becoming a maritime power as part of his blueprint for the country’s great rejuvenation.

The country’s most recent white paper on national defense, dated 2019, said the Chinese navy was adjusting to strategic requirements by “speeding up the transition of its tasks from defense on the near seas to protection missions on the far seas.”

Sea trials hadn’t even started for the new Fujian aircraft carrier in March when Yuan Huazhi, political commissar for China’s People’s Liberation Army Navy, confirmed the construction of a fourth carrier. Asked if it would be nuclear-powered, he said at the time that would “soon be announced,” but so far it has not been.

Neither China’s Defense Ministry nor Foreign Affairs Ministry responded to requests for comment.

Even if the carrier that has been started will likely be another conventionally-powered Type 003 ship, experts say Chinese shipyards have the capability to work on more than one carrier at a time, and that they could produce a new nuclear-powered vessel concurrently.

  • Shara ‘Bullet’ Magomedov reveals he’s the champion of an insane sport that’s like ‘Bare-Knuckle’ Muay Thai but with headbutting

Shara ‘Bullet’ Magomedov reveals he’s the champion of an insane sport that’s like ‘Bare-Knuckle’ Muay Thai but with headbutting

Fresh off his outstanding double-spinning backfist knockout at UFC 308, the undefeated Russian middleweight is already itching to get back into the action.

Yet Shara ‘Bullet’ Magomedov isn’t just a professional mixed martial artist, he’s also a Muay Thai kickboxer and a true demolition man for an insane combat sport known as ‘Lethwei’.

Shara Magomedov reveals he’s the reigning Eurasian Lethwei champion

In conversation with Red Corner MMA earlier this week, the undefeated UFC middleweight contender revealed that he remains the regional champion for something called ‘Lethwei’ – also known as Burmese Boxing.

A truly insane sport, research suggests that Lethwei might have originated in Myanmar (Burma) around 1,000 years ago, but one thing that everyone agrees upon is that it’s easily one of the most brutal combat sports out there.

Don’t just take our word for it: In sanctioned Lethwei bouts, fighters can use knees, elbows, kicks and punches as you would otherwise expect, but it’s also completely legal to headbutt your opponent unconscious.

“Yes, I am officially the current Eurasian champion in Lethwei, it’s almost like Bare-Knuckle [where] they just wrap your hands, [but] you can also headbutt your opponent.

“This sport is as hard as it gets, slightly different from Muay Thai,” stated the undefeated UFC star-in-the-making.

In fact, not only can you headbutt your opponent, but it’s actually considered to be a key part of a fighter’s arsenal and is the reason why the sport is known as the ‘Art of Nine Limbs’.

“Muay Thai is one of the toughest sports, but I believe Lethwei is the toughest one [of all],” argued Magomedov, claiming that he’s only competed in the sport a handful of times, albeit with devastating results.

“I think five or six [fights], I got the finish in all of them – they give your opponent two minutes to recover but it wasn’t enough for them.”

Whilst footage of Magomedov’s Lethwei career is scarce, there are a few videos showing highlights of his time dishing out the damage… It’s safe to say that wherever ‘Bullet’ goes, carnage follows.

Shara ‘Bullet’ wants MVP next after the UFC told him to pump the brakes

During that same interview with Red Corner MMA, Magomedov also discussed what’s next regarding his UFC career and suggested that his next opponent could be either Michael ‘Venom’ Page or Paulo Costa.

“I’d like to fight them both, I’d be happy to share the octagon with them… [But] Page is a better option because Costa isn’t consistent enough.

“He pulls out quite often, and I don’t want to sit and wait for a fight too long… A fight is like a party for me, so when it falls through, the party is spoiled.”

According to Magomedov’s manager, his return to action is expected to take place at UFC Saudi Arabia on February 1, 2025.

This, after ‘Bullet’ was told that he should take some time off by the promotion: “I wanted to fight in Macau next [on November 23] but the UFC insisted I should take some time off, get hungry.”

  • Outshining USA, One of Japan’s Gold Medalists Reveals Secret to Wrestling Olympics Success

Outshining USA, One of Japan’s Gold Medalists Reveals Secret to Wrestling Olympics Success

After the Paris Olympics, there is no space for doubt about Japanese wrestlers. They came, they saw, and boy, oh boy, did they conquer! When the 2024 Olympics ended, Japan’s wrestling medal tally stood at 11, of which eight were gold. The world saw some of the greatest matches in both Greco-Roman and freestyle events go down this year. For starters, there was Daichi Takatani, who went on to take down Kyle Dake in the 74 kg freestyle finals.

Then there is also Rei Higuchi, who took down an American legend. Rei went up against Spencer Lee, and to the world’s surprise, Lee lost. Rei went on to win 4-2. While the men’s wrestling was huge, the women were just as formidable. Akari Fujinami went on to continue her 130-0 streak and win the 53 kg freestyle gold. All of it left a very simple message to the world. Japan is here to stay and to stay right on top! But what is the secret to their medal sweep?

Nao Kusaka tells his story, giving a glimpse into Japanese training!

    Article continues below this ad

One of the Japanese wrestlers who won answers this for the world. Nao Kusaka was the man who took the Olympic gold in the 77 kg event. But his winning moment was perhaps one of the most iconic ones. He stood at Champ-de-Mars Arena, flag in hand, and dropped to his knees. It was an emotional moment, but at the moment of victory, they wondered about the secrets of Japanese training!

Well, wonder no more! Nao Kusaka’s story and how it began give us a glimpse into the Japanese world of wrestling. Kusaka’s journey, however, began when he was just three years old. As a child, he was a “crybaby” who clung to his mother’s side. But amidst the loud cries, one man saw potential in him. It was Takeshi Takeshita, who later went on to become his coach. Takeshi has a very interesting equation for the results that Japan gets.

Takeshi has a mix of wrestling and sumo in his training. As Takeshi himself puts it,30% wrestling and 70% sumo.” So why sumo? Well, the sumo sessions are intended to build Kusaka’s lower body strength and aggression in wrestlers. But that’s not all it does! When Nao Kusaka had an awful period during high school, he did not give up. An attitude his training had given him. Instead, he doubled down.

From that loss on, Nao Kusaka doubled down on his squats, strengthening his legs and perfecting his balance. Today, whenever he feels out of sync, he returns to sumo stomping, a simple but powerful move that grounds him. As his coach puts it, “While most kids would compromise and give up, he never does. He’s a genius that can also put in the hard work.” Now, that’s the kind of training and attitude that gives you a clean sweep at the Olympics. While it was great for Japan, America saw some of its biggest names in wrestling fall.

The fall of American legends like Spencer Lee and Mitchell Mesenbrink!

For America, the wrestling mat turned into a battlefield that they couldn’t conquer. Let’s take Spencer Lee, for example! Lee is a Penn State legend with three NCAA titles and U20 championship wins, but even he fell short at the Olympics. He made it all the way to the finals, where he was set to go head-to-head against Japan’s Rei Higuchi. The match ended with Lee’s fall. While the Olympics have been big for Japan, the U23 World Championships were equally great!

    Article continues below this ad

The U23 World Championships unfortunately saw the fall of another American wrestler. America’s beloved and Nittany Lion’s favorite, Mitchell Mesenbrink, had a fate quite like Lee’s. Mitchell, during the championships, had to face Japan’s Kota Takahashi. The match ended with Mitchell’s loss. It is evident that Japan has managed to adopt a style that is quick, agile, and makes every move count. Another American wrestler had something to say about this style!

    via Reuters

Serbian-American wrestler Stevan Micic, impressed yet taken aback, went on to talk about Japan’s techniques. “I think that Japan just having a very outside style, very quick athletic, you know, it’s really difficult to kind of get your hands on them,” said Stevan. It’s a unique blend of speed, precision, and surprise that has even American wrestlers reconsidering their strategies. While some reconsider, there are others who have lived with the Japanese influence for a long time now! Remember Bo Nickal?

    Article continues below this ad

Bo Nickal, over the years, has gone on record many times to talk about how Japan has influenced his wrestling. Bo is also a blue belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and has, over the years, infused the same into his techniques. While Japan’s wrestlers continue to break new ground and reimagine the wrestling mat as their own, it’s clear that their rivals are taking notes. The world might just be on the cusp of a Japanese wrestling revolution, and we just might have to scramble to even keep up!
