Vidya Balan Reveals The Secret Behind Drastic Weight Loss – How This Particular Diet Helped

Vidya Balan, the Bollywood star, has always been candid about her struggles with weight. From being body-shamed to overcoming her weight loss challenges, the actress has never shied away from discussing her personal journey. In recent months, Vidya has wowed her fans with a noticeable transformation, shedding significant weight. But unlike many celebrities who swear by intense workout regimens, Vidya revealed that her secret was a strict diet and not exercise. What’s even more fascinating is that the weight loss wasn’t just about cutting calories-it was about addressing inflammation.

In an interview with Galatta India, Vidya shared how she met a nutrition group called Amura Health in Chennai, which helped her realize that her persistent weight struggles weren’t solely due to excess fat but rather inflammation. She says, “They said, ‘It is just inflammation; it is not fat.’” Vidya’s revelation is crucial because inflammation could be the hidden culprit behind many people’s inability to lose weight, regardless of diet or exercise. But how exactly does inflammation contribute to weight gain, and how can addressing it lead to successful weight loss?

    What Is Inflammation?

Before diving into Vidya’s journey, let’s understand the role inflammation plays in the body. According to Dr Diane Brzezinski, chronic inflammation is a condition where the body’s immune system stays activated for prolonged periods, leading to persistent low-level inflammation. Unlike acute inflammation, which occurs as part of your body’s natural healing response, chronic inflammation doesn’t subside after an injury or illness. Instead, it becomes part of a broader health issue, contributing to various chronic diseases like diabetes, arthritis, and even heart disease.

Chronic inflammation can be triggered by various factors such as stress, poor diet, smoking, toxins, and even environmental factors. This long-term inflammation doesn’t just affect your organs and joints; it also plays a significant role in weight gain. So, how does inflammation specifically impact weight?

The Link Between Inflammation and Weight Gain

One of the key ways chronic inflammation influences weight gain is through its effect on hormones that regulate metabolism and hunger. As Johns Hopkins Medicine explains, inflammatory foods such as processed meats, fried foods, sugary beverages, and trans fats can increase inflammation in the body. These foods stimulate the immune system and contribute to a chronic inflammatory state, making it harder to lose weight.

Additionally, inflammation disrupts the normal function of insulin, the hormone responsible for regulating blood sugar. Insulin resistance, which occurs when the body’s cells become less responsive to insulin, can lead to higher blood sugar levels, liver fat accumulation, and a sluggish metabolism. This creates a vicious cycle: the more weight you gain, the more your body inflames, and the more difficult it becomes to lose that excess weight.

How Diet Affects Chronic Inflammation and Weight Gain

Researchers have found that diet is one of the most effective ways to combat chronic inflammation and manage weight. Anti-inflammatory foods support the body’s ability to fight inflammation and maintain a healthy metabolism. According to Dr Diane Brzezinski, CRP levels tend to remain elevated until the inflammation is reduced, and this increase can further impair the body’s ability to process insulin, leading to additional weight gain. Therefore, adopting an anti-inflammatory diet can have a profound effect on reducing chronic inflammation and, by extension, managing weight.

Anti-inflammatory Foods to Include in Your Diet

Some of the most effective anti-inflammatory foods suggested by John Hopkins Medicine include:

    1. Fatty Fish: Salmon, mackerel, sardines, and tuna are rich in omega-3 fatty acids, which can reduce inflammation and support fat loss.
    2. Leafy Greens: Kale, spinach, and broccoli are full of antioxidants that combat inflammation and support overall health.
    3. Berries: Blueberries, strawberries, and raspberries are packed with antioxidants, which fight cellular damage caused by inflammation.
    4. Nuts and Seeds: Walnuts, flaxseeds, and chia seeds provide omega-3s and help reduce inflammation in the body.
    5. Fermented Foods: Probiotics found in yoghurt, kefir, and kimchi promote gut health, which is closely linked to inflammation levels.
    6. Turmeric and Ginger: These spices have powerful anti-inflammatory properties and can be easily added to your meals.

    Foods that cause inflammation:

John Hopkins Medicine lists the following as inflammatory foods:

    • Red meat, such as steak and hamburgers
    • Processed meat, such as bologna, bacon, sausage and lunchmeat
    • Commercial baked goods such as snack cakes, pies, cookies and brownies
    • Bread and pasta made with white flour
    • Deep-fried items such as French fries, fried chicken and doughnuts
    • Foods high in added sugar, such as candy, jelly and syrup
    • Sugar-sweetened beverages such as soda, bottled or canned tea drinks, and sports drinks
    • Trans fats, found in margarine, microwave popcorn, refrigerated biscuits and dough, and nondairy coffee creamers

The key takeaway from Vidya Balan’s weight loss experience is clear: it’s not just about cutting calories; it’s about healing your body from the inside out.

Ruben Amorim drops MAJOR hint over Man United’s potential move for Viktor Gyokeres – as departing Sporting Lisbon boss reveals when the in-form striker will leave the club

    • Amorim took charge of his final home game with Sporting on Tuesday evening
    • He will have one final match in charge this weekend before joining Man United
    • LISTEN NOW: It’s All Kicking Off!, available wherever you get your podcasts. New episodes every Monday and Thursday

Ruben Amorim has dropped a huge hint as to whether Man United will pursue Viktor Gyokeres after the striker put in another stunning performance for Sporting Lisbon.

The Swede continued his stunning form under Amorim as the Sporting head coach oversaw a 4-1 win over Man City in his final home match ahead of his move to Man United.

Phil Foden had given Man City the lead in the fourth minute, before Gyokeres replied with three goals – two from the penalty spot – to help inspire Sporting’s shock win.

There’s been plenty of discussion surrounding the former Brighton and Coventry striker amid his fine goalscoring form and some have suggested Amorim may look to bring him to Old Trafford.

Now, the Portuguese boss has broken his silence on the matter and revealed when he expects Gyokeres to leave Sporting.

Speaking after the match, according to A Bola, Amorim said:  ‘If I start joking about this Gyokeres situation I’ll get in trouble.

‘This is my city, this is my country, so I’ll respect it. Viktor has to stay until the end of the season and then his life will probably go somewhere else’.

Though a January move for the Sweden international appears to be off the table, Amorim appeared to hint that he could launch a summer move for Gyokeres.

Earlier in the night, United legend Rio Ferdinand tipped Gyokeres to follow Amorim to United after his stunning hat-trick against the Red Devils’ local rivals.

‘The recruitment teams in all the clubs in the Premier League must be scratching their heads about how they let him get away,’ Ferdinand said.

‘He hasn’t had a conventional route, his route to the top hasn’t been straightforward.

‘He was at Brighton as a kid, sold to Coventry, went on loan to Swansea, goes back to Coventry and does well, then goes to Sporting Lisbon.

Gyokeres' overall tally at Sporting now standing at 63 goals in 66 games

‘He has had a journey where he has had to build himself and create what he is now.

‘You think ‘How has he been allowed to get out?’, all of a sudden when are seeing what he has got, maybe he has grown into what he is, the confidence, stature he has, the physicality, he might have had to wait for that to come.

‘A few times today he blew away from players, holding people off.’

The hat-trick took Gyokeres’ tally for the season to 23 goals in 17 matches this season, with his overall tally at Sporting now standing at 63 in 66 games.

The anti-nepo babies who have shunned showbiz for ‘proper’ jobs – as Gary Barlow reveals his ‘studious’ son is pursuing a career in medicine

From Lila Moss walking the Victoria Secret catwalk with her mother Kate to Kim Kardashian’s daughter North performing as Simba in a Lion King concert, the mere sight of a ‘nepo baby’ in the limelight is guaranteed to rile people up.

Many accused of riding on their parents’ coattails argue that they have to graft even harder to prove they’re talented in their own right, but some children of famous parents have decided to apply that work ethic outside of the showbiz industry.

For instance, Take That star Gary Barlow recently revealed all three of his children are opting for a more studious path, explaining that his son Daniel, 24, and daughter Emily, 22, have both decided to pursue careers in medicine and physiology respectively.

Celeb kids who don’t attempt to replicate their parents’ success in the same industry, perhaps conceding that they genuinely don’t have the same level of talent, often end up piggybacking on their success in a different way.

That might mean setting themselves up as ‘influencers’ or launching brands – Stella McCartney perhaps being the most famous example – but there’s a whole bunch who have opted for refreshingly normal career paths.

Two hugely famous Oscar nominated actors have sons who have pursued careers as chefs, while one of the world’s most beloved singers is rightly proud of his son who is a firefighter in New Jersey.

Here MailOnline reveals the perks of not becoming yet another nepo baby.

Instead opting to follow a more studious path, Gary’s eldest children Daniel and Emily have both decided to pursue careers in medicine and physiology respectively.

Gary revealed his youngest is still undecided on where her passions lie, but she is also studious like her siblings.

Speaking to The Mirror, he said ‘The two oldest ones [Daniel and Emily] have kind of gone into medicine and physiology – studying strength and conditioning – and my youngest one, Daisy, I’m not too sure what she’s heading for but again, she’s very studious… unlike me and my wife,’ he says.

‘I don’t think they will follow in my music footsteps but I wouldn’t have discouraged them though if they did want to, it’s been a good business for me’.

It’s unclear how Daniel’s career in medicine is unfolding, but it’s believed he graduated last year, with his proud parents Gary and Dawn by his side.

Gary has also spoken of his pride in his super-fit son for taking part in an Ironman challenge, saying: ‘We just couldn’t be prouder of our boy – unbelievable amounts of training and determination – when you put in the work you get the results.’

Swedish-born Ulrika Jonsson rose to fame in the early 90s as a weather presenter before moving on to front the hit show Gladiators on ITV.

Yet her daughter, Bo, 23, has shunned this exciting life – after training to be a nanny for the rich and famous at the prestigious Norland College.

Back in April 2023 Ulrika, 57, shared snaps with her daughter after she graduated from her university course to become a nanny.

The TV star told how proud she was of her daughter – who was born with a congenital heart condition – for reaching the milestone after always struggling with academia.

Praising more ‘practical’ degrees and apprenticeships she said Bo was a ‘grafter and a doer’ as she shared snaps from the ceremony at prestigious Norland College -where the Prince and Princess of Wales’s childminder learned her craft.

Maria Teresa Turrion Borrallo – who looks after Prince William and Kate’s three young children, George, Charlotte and Louis – is also a graduate of the prestigious Bath nanny school.

    Bruce Springsteen’s son Sam

    Job: Firefighter

Legendary musician Bruce Springsteen has released 21 studio albums throughout his six-decade long career.

Yet music didn’t appeal to his son Sam who became a firefighter in Jersey City in 2020.

Previously speaking to the New York Times about his son’s profession Bruce, 75, said: ‘It was a long road.

‘He was very dedicated for quite a few years and we are just excited for him today.’

Sam graduated from the Monmouth County Fire Academy in 2014, and then went on to work as a volunteer firefighter in Colts Neck, the area of New Jersey where he grew up.

His parents had front-row seats as he accepted his duties as a firefighter for the district.

He told ABC News at the time: ‘This is my son’s day, so I’m staying out of it.’

While Sam keeps his life private, Bruce’s wife Patti previously revealed that Sam had welcomed his first child in July 2022, Lily Harper Springsteen.

He founded Ford’s Filling Station in LAX airport in Los Angeles – which has a 3.5 star rating on Trip Advisor

And he is also the founder of California Southland Doorstep Market, which promotes locally-grown products and hand-crafted goods.

Ben has previously spoken of how his dad helped inspire his passion for cooking.

He told the Mail: ‘My father was definitely around when I was growing up, and he likes to cook too.’

And he added: ‘Seeing how meticulous he was at his craft has stayed with me as a chef.’

    Roger Taylor’s daughter Rory

    Job: Doctor

Brian May’s son isn’t the only offspring of Queen to enter the health sector after Roger Taylor’s daughter Rory pursued a career as a doctor.

Unlike Roger’s son Rufus who has followed in his father’s footsteps as a drummer, Rory works for the NHS as a west London GP.

Rory has a Diploma of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, and actively encourages people to check their boobs so they can be proactive about early signs of cancer through her work with CoppaFeel.

She’s one of the breast cancer charity’s Medical Advisory Group members and has complteted a 60 mile, five-day trek across the Sahara to raise funds in November last year.

‘The most challenging part was trying to find the time to wear in my hiking boots in between work and life as a busy new mum, so I resorted to wearing them around the house and on nursery drop-offs,’ she said.

During the Covid pandemic, she was regularly featured on Channel Four news, where she spoke about restrictions and the fact hand sanitiser had been going missing.

    Anna Wintour’s son Charles Shaffer:

    Job: Doctor

Charles Shaffer could have capitalized on the celebrity kudos that comes with being the son of fashion icon and long-time Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour.

But Charles, 39, has shied away from the limelight and instead opted to become a doctor – following in the footsteps of his father who was a longtime professor of child psychiatry.

Charles got his undergraduate degree in Modern History at Oxford University, England, before returning to New York to complete his medical degree at Columbia University.

Having worked in hospitals across the US, he holds the position of Assistant Professor of Clinical Psychiatry and Attending Psychiatrist at Weill Cornell.

Speaking in 2020, Anna gave a rare insight into her personal life as she revealed that Charles had become ‘very ill’ while treating Covid patients during the pandemic.

Sharing the news in a video posted on the Vogue Instagram account at the time, she said: ‘My son is a doctor. He is currently quite ill and self quarantining at home but when he is able, he will return to the ICU at his hospital.

‘I am so proud of him and so grateful to all the health workers, first responders, nurses and doctors who are fighting to reduce the spread of the virus and to save lives.’

    Bill Murray’s son Homer

    Job: Chef

Ghostbusters’ actor Bill Murray’s son Homer strayed from the acting path as he also headed to the kitchen to pursue his career.

Homer Murray initially worked as a photo assistant and had the opportunity to travel extensively, sampling a whole host of cuisines, which is how he discovered the love of cooking.

Upon his return to the US, he opened his own restaurant in the Greenpoint neighborhood of Brooklyn in 2012.

Now called 21 Greenpoint, and having received a Michelin star, it serves a range of dishes including fried calamari, pork collar and the Spaghetti Meg Ryan.

When the restaurant first opened, the actor, 74, was seen tending the bar and pouring shots for guests.

The Lost In Translation actor reportedly told the rowdy revellers: ‘I am so happy… that he has not continued in the family business.’

‘He didn’t do this because I asked him to. He didn’t do this because he thought it would drum up business. He did this because he wanted to. That’s the beauty of it.’

On the restaurant’s website, Homer has a photo alongside his famous father with a quote from the actor that reads: ‘Homer has taken the joy of the family to have a drink, have a meal, and have friends together in one place, and made it his life’s work.’

    Robert De Niro’s son Raphael

    Job: Real Estate Broker

Raphael De Niro, 46, is the eldest son of acting legend Robert – but he has proved to be incredibly successful in his own right.

Growing up, he showed great entrepreneurial spirit, working various summer jobs including at a Persian rug store, as a doorman, and as a busboy at his father’s Nobu restaurant.

Raphael, whose parents divorced when he was just a pre-teen, later attended New York University but did not end up graduating.

Early signs suggested he would follow in his father’s acting footsteps after making a handful of on-screen appearances but he eventually decided to break away from the family tradition.

Instead, he found his feet as a real estate broker in New York and worked his way up in the property industry.

Raphael eventually founded his own team under the Douglas Elliman real estate umbrella in 2004.

The De Niro group soon became the company’s top earning team, bringing in an average of more than $250million in sales to the company annually.

And Raphael counts famous faces such as Renee Zellweger and Kelly Ripa among his client base.

    Willem Dafoe’s son Jack

    Job: Environmentalist

Willem Dafoe, 67, has had a legendary Hollywood career, having won several Academy Awards and BAFTAS.

Yet despite his famous dad and his director mother Elizabeth LeCompte, Jack has focussed on a different path – using legal skills to have save the environment.

He previously worked in public policy as a Senior Policy and Research Associate at the New York City Apollo Alliance, which seeks to catalyse a clean energy revolution that will put millions of Americans back to work.

He now works as Assistant Attorney General in the Natural Resources Division in Maine, New England.

According to thethings.com, he earns roughly $600,000 from his work – a hefty pay packet but not as much as his dad’s.

Perhaps his love of the natural world comes from his father, who has said he avoids eating meat because of the damage it does to the planet.

He told Foodiamo in 2018: ‘I don’t eat meat. I admire vegans, but I’m only a vegetarian.

‘I like to eat fish once in while, but I don’t eat meat anymore because animal farms are one of the main causes of the destruction of the planet.’

Nick Kyrgios Cheekily Reveals ‘Naughty’ List Prevented Him From Representing Australia at the Olympics – ‘Hot-Headed’

Nick Kyrgios is set to make his comeback at the 2025 Australian Open after nearly a year sidelined by injuries to his ankle, wrist, and foot. During this time, he has stayed active on social media and worked as a commentator for networks like ESPN and Eurosport at Wimbledon and the Australian Open this year. Now back in form, he is determined to reignite his career, with his main motivation being to win a Grand Slam. Despite his short-tempered and outspoken reputation, Kyrgios remains unfazed, stating, “That’s been the story of my life, really.”

Since turning pro in 2013, Kyrgios has achieved significant success. Winning seven ATP Tour singles titles, including the Washington Open in 2019 and 2022. Even reaching 11 finals, notably at Wimbledon in 2022. However, his notorious reputation has impacted his participation in certain events. In a candid conversation with Louis Theroux on his podcast. He was asked why he’s never made an appearance at the Olympics. While he would have loved to attend and watch the NBA players represent the USA, Kyrgios revealed, “I was on the naughty list for a couple of years earlier in my career and I wasn’t able to participate.”

Prompting a curiosity about his infamous temper, Theroux questioned, “With your incredible gift for tennis comes a reputation for being feisty on the court and argument-prone. Maybe even tantrum-prone. Did you take it to the next level?”  Reflecting on the moments that were deemed bad behavior—such as yelling at umpires and smashing rackets. Kyrgios drew a parallel to a tennis legend, “Like McEnroe, I guess we’re both hot-headed.” He is famously known for explosive outbursts. Including his infamous “You cannot be serious!” tirade at Wimbledon in 1981 and numerous confrontations with officials throughout his career.

However, despite facing criticism, Kyrgios stands firm, believing he simply acted human and not aggressive. “But I don’t think we are really, because tennis is such an old gentleman’s sport,” he remarked. Players like Roger Federer and Jannik Sinner are known for their calm demeanor and sportsmanship. Over the years, they have established the standard for what it means to be a gentleman in tennis. In contrast, Kyrgios stated, “I think anyone who shows a personality is kind of outside the box and outside the cookie-cutter mold of the normal tennis player.”

Kyrgios believes his behavior seen in tennis would be “completely normal” in sports like rugby or soccer, where players can express themselves more freely and get away with it. He is also of the view athletes shouldn’t be judged solely by their on-court actions, as they often navigate two different personas.

Now he’s ready to pursue a Grand Slam title and plans to play for a few more years. However, it’s not looking too good for the star. Some tennis legends and his fellow colleagues have commented on his fiery personality.

The tennis community opened up on their views of Nick Kyrgios

During an interview with BetBoom Tennis, Elena Vesnina shared her thoughts on the Australian. She acknowledged his potential and criticized his brash remarks and strong opinions at the same time, stating, “He had a powerful serve and a great forehand.” However, referring to the unique image he has crafted for himself in the tennis world, especially his unfiltered commentary and repetitive digs at Sinner’s doping controversy, Vesnina added, “He’s a clown.” And she’s certainly not alone in her opinion.

Kyrgios’ peers at UTS recently gave him a playful shoutout. During an interview on the UTS Instagram page, they mentioned him to be the “biggest trash-talker in tennis.” Players like Ben Shelton and Lorenzo Musetti chimed in, and even Gael Monfils couldn’t resist mentioning Kyrgios. Embracing this title, Kyrgios reshared the post on Instagram with a shrug emoji. Showing he’s unfazed by their choice.

As Nick Kyrgios gears up for the Australian Open 2025, the phrase “sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me” seems fitting. With his sights set on reigniting his career and entertaining fans once again. Do you think we’ll see a different side of Kyrgios after his comeback? Only time will tell, but one thing is certain—his return is sure to be anything but ordinary!

How To Check Purity Of Cinnamon – Here’s What The Nutritionist Revealed:

Simrun shares that the most commonly found cinnamon in the market is cassia. It looks like bark, has a broader surface area, and is often used as a cheap substitute for cinnamon. According to her, “Cassia has a higher amount of coumarin, which in higher doses can be toxic for your health.” She further states that if you wish to reap the benefits of drinking cinnamon water, you must use real cinnamon. But what does real cinnamon look like? Simrun reveals that real cinnamon is smooth on the outside and is rolled from one side to the other – just like a newspaper. It also has a very delicate smell and flavour. She says, “If you are drinking cinnamon water, opt for real cinnamon. If you’re making a curry, you may use cassia, but in moderation.”

    Watch the complete video below:

What Are The Different Types Of Cinnamon?

Did you know there are four different types of cinnamon? Among the four, Cassia and Ceylon cinnamon are the most famous. Ceylon cinnamon hails from Sri Lanka and is known for its soft texture. All these varieties of cinnamon differ in their flavour profiles and coumarin levels, making them unique.

Clarkson’s Farm star Kaleb Cooper has revealed he is on a new health kick after a received a message in a dream.

Jeremy Clarkson’s right-hand man has lost almost a stone after starting his new diet.

Kaleb’s new lifestyle comes just a week after the former Top Gear host,  64, revealed he had been just days away from death after suffering a heart attack.

Kaleb, 26, explained that unlike his boss, who is now leading a healthier life, he wasn’t doing it for health reasons.

He explained in an interview with The Sun he had had a realisation after a vivid dream.

Kaleb has now lost six kilos and has managed to stick to his new diet, only having the occasional ‘cheat day’  (pictured September 2024)

He said: ‘I’m on a no-sugar thing, and it’s all because I had this dream. I did and didn’t understand the dream, but I knew I had to quit sugar.

‘I went to tell Taya [his partner] and she thought I wouldn’t do it.’

Kaleb has now lost six kilos and has managed to stick to his new diet, only having the occasional ‘cheat day’ and only ever consuming sugars that occur naturally.

The farmer’s confession comes after Jeremy revealed he was ‘days away from death’ after falling unwell following a swim in the Indian Ocean while on holiday.

Clarkson returned to Britain and a ‘sudden deterioration began to gather pace’ with him feeling ‘clammy’, ‘tightness in my chest’, and ‘pins and needles in my left arm’.

This led him to being admitted to hospital where a heart attack was ruled out after he had an electrocardiogram (ECG), blood tests and X-rays.

Following the life-saving surgery, he has been warned by doctors that he must make major changes to his lifestyle.

The Diddly Squat farm star acknowledged these changes need to be made but he has labelled them as ‘terrifying’ as he is no longer ‘allowed to have fun any more’.

His doctors told him there was a five per cent chance that his heart would stop but he quipped that there was the same chance he would be eaten by lions.

And while this is might be a frightening thought, Clarkson admitted that the changes he has to make following the surgery is what is truly daunting.

Writing in the Sun, he said: ‘What is scary though is what came afterwards. The advice on how I must live my life from now on.

‘Literally, I am not allowed to have fun any more. I must live in a Liberal-Democrat, holier-than-thou fog of weeds, seeds and yoga. This is terrifying.

‘And if I go to a party, I must stand in a corner, nursing some refreshing elderflower juice, before going home at about 9.30. That’s terrifying too.’

The 64-year-old also said that he was aware that his lifestyle was unhealthy, and he was unconcerned by the thought of dying, but now wants to see his ‘grandchildren grow up’.

He revealed he started smoking at age 14 becoming a ‘world champion, sucking down sixty Marlboro Reds a day’ and told how he is a ‘big time’ drinker.

He added: ‘I always knew this lifestyle wasn’t going to cause me to live to 112, and I didn’t really care.

‘Because why deny yourself all that fun in your thirties and forties and even fifties just so you can have as long as possible with a grey face and a tube up your nose in an old people’s home?

‘Here’s the thing, though. I’m now 64 and last week, when the Grim Reaper poked his nose round the door, I decided that actually, I quite fancied living a little bit longer. ‘

His doctors also told him that ‘a lot’ of his current work will have ‘to go’, and suggested replacing it with golf.

Clarkson currently writes three newspaper columns a week, runs a brewery, a pub, a shop and a farm, which he documents on TV series Clarkson’s Farm, while also hosting Who Wants To Be A Millionaire. He has also recently released a new book.

Although he remains adamant he will continue to work – the health scare has been enough to shock meat-eater Clarkson into rethinking his diet as he contemplates ways to ‘make celery interesting’.

Marc Cucurella sets sights on Champions League football next season – as the Spaniard reveals how he changed his fortunes after difficult start to Chelsea career

    • Marc Cucurella says Chelsea have to qualify for Europe’s most elite competition
    • Spaniard was previously booed by his own fans but has now become a cult-hero

Marc Cucurella says Chelsea simply have to secure Champions League football for next season, with the Spanish revelation of Euro 2024 enjoying a remarkable renaissance at Stamford Bridge.

Cucurella was previously booed by his own fans who thought he was a £63million waste of money, but the left back signed from Brighton has become something of a cult hero at the club.

He assisted Spain’s winner against England in the final of Euro 2024 and now inverting into midfield under Enzo Maresca, Cucurella says he is loving life at Chelsea. All that is missing is a trophy and an invite into Europe’s most elite competition.

‘It changed very fast,’ Cucurella said. ‘I tried to work on me and what I can do better. We have started to create something important so we need to keep going.

‘Sometimes it’s difficult, we have a personal life, some problems, but now we are very good. I try to work on me and myself. I try to work on my confidence.

‘It’s not easy. It’s the most difficult part of football. One day if you play badly, you feel like you are the worst player. Another day if you play good you might think you are the best.

‘But you need to stay in the middle. If you lose, you’re not the worst. If you win, you’re not the best. Just stay there, focus on what you can improve and try to build on this and trust yourself.

‘If you play for Chelsea, it’s because you have strong qualities. In all careers, you have better and worse moments. But it’s about never stopping working and believing in yourself.’

On Chelsea’s ambitions for this season, Cucurella said: ‘All of us dream of winning trophies. In the league, we know it’s difficult.

‘You have teams who stay with the same project for a long time so there are a few in front of us but our objective, for sure, is to play in the Champions League next season. It’s very important for us.’

Cucurella is surrounded by team-mates on much longer contracts than his own, even if it does expire in 2028. The Spaniard is settled in London, however, and would be open to spending many more years at Chelsea.

‘I’m really happy,’ he said. ‘My family is happy here. We are in a top club with good fans. Hopefully I can stay for a lot of time.’

Jeremy Clarkson reveals ‘horrific’ lifestyle changes after urgent heart surgery

Jeremy Clarkson has said he hates his ‘horrific’ new lifestyle after a recent health scare.

The former Top Gear presenter, 64, underwent a heart procedure after experiencing a ‘sudden deterioration’ in his health, and was rushed to hospital in an ambulance in recent weeks.

After suffering from worrying symptoms including being ‘clammy’, with a ‘tightness in my chest’, and ‘pins and needles in my left arm’, he had a stent fitted after doctors discovered that one of his arteries was ‘completely blocked’.

Although he is now recovering, Jeremy has made it clear he’s not happy about advice he’s been given to look after himself going forward.

Writing about his ‘extremely urgent surgery’, Jeremy said he wasn’t scared at the time but was now after being told how he ‘must live my life from now on’.

‘Literally, I am not allowed to have fun any more. This is terrifying,’ he said.

The TV presenter has said he needs to diet and exercise after the health scare (Picture: Amazon/Everett/ Rex/ Shutterstock)

‘The worst problem though is diet. To cut my alarmingly high levels of cholesterol, I need to cut out, completely, everything I like eating,’ he explained in his column for The Sun.

‘Bacon, sausages, beef, lamb, pork, butter, chips, proper milk, Cadbury’s fruit and nut bars and the interesting bit in an egg. I’ve had a week now to live in the new regime and it’s horrific. Have you ever tried kale? Well, don’t, because it’s like eating the contents of a AAA battery.’

Then explaining his hatred of Greek yoghurt and almond milk, Jeremy lamented how he has to cut out drinking alcohol and take up exercising.

Jeremy laughed off advice to slow down and take up a hobby (Picture: Ian West/ PA Wire)

‘I’ve always seen this is something you do when travelling from the car to the pub, or from the lunch table to the sitting room. But apparently, when I’ve recovered from the operation, I must do more,’ he wrote.

Being advised by his doctor to slow down and take up a hobby like golf, Jeremy was not impressed, listing all the commitments he has – including ‘writing three newspaper columns a week, owning a brewery, pub and shop and hosting Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?, plus running a farm and making a television show about that’.

Reflecting on how he ‘grabbed the gift of live by the scruff of its neck and went berserk’, the presenter said he had no regrets about ‘never saying no to anything that sounded exciting’.

He’s currently filming the next season of Clarkson’s Farm (Picture: Amazon Prime Video)

However, after ‘the Grim Reaper poked his nose around the door’, he decided he did ‘quite fancy living a bit longer’.

Jeremy then said he would like to see his grandchildren grow up, see a few more sunrises and also visit the Galapagos Islands, which he said would be achievable by ‘living on water, steamed fish, and exercise’.

Earlie this week Jeremy thanked followers on social media for their well-wishes and support, but also issued a sharp response about his diet.

Replying to a comment which read ‘Now he seems to have had a heart attack, and needed surgery what does he expect eating all that meat? He can’t be surprised!’ the Clarkson’s Farm star said: ‘Better than dying of vegetable induced boredom.’

Clarkson’s Farm is streaming on Amazon Prime Video.

2024 college football Week 9 picks against the spread, odds, lines, trends: Vegas expert reveals predictions

The Week 9 college football schedule has already seen nine games unfold and teams such as No. 17 Boise State and No. 19 Pittsburgh have scored important wins. Now there are four ranked matchups set for Saturday with the Week 9 college football odds via SportsLine consensus listing No. 12 Notre Dame as a 14-point favorite against No. 24 Navy. Another surprising top-25 team, No. 25 Vanderbilt, is +17.5 against No. 5 Texas.

No. 15 Alabama vs. No. 21 Missouri (+15.5) and No. 8 LSU vs. No. 14 Texas A&M (-1) are SEC matchups that could go a long way in shaping the College Football Playoff picture, while top-ranked Oregon (-21.5) will look to keep rolling against No. 20 Illinois in the 3:30 p.m. ET Big Ten on CBS matchup.

Before locking in any Week 9 college football picks on those games or others, be sure to see the college football betting guide from legendary Vegas handicapper Bruce Marshall

For years Vegas-based Marshall was synonymous with The Gold Sheet, the famed sports betting newsletter. With a background in play-by-play work and sports information while in college, Marshall joined TGS in 1981 when hired by the legendary Mort Olshan and served as executive editor for many years.

An in-demand guest on numerous sports talk radio and TV shows across the country, Bruce’s vast array of editorial work has been featured in the Las Vegas Review-Journal, the New York Post and many other outlets. He has won various handicapping titles and also is working on several book projects. Bruce also enters the Week 8 college football weekend schedule on an 24-10 roll (+1281) on his official SportsLine college football spread betting picks.

Now, using his Tech Corner technique that evaluates all the trends and the latest college football odds, Marshall has turned his attention to college football betting for Week 9 and revealed picks for each matchup. Head to SportsLine to see every pick.

Top college football predictions for Week 9

One of the top college football picks Marshall is recommending for Week 9: He’s backing Michigan State (+4) to cover on the road against Michigan in a 7:30 p.m. ET on matchup on Saturday. The Wolverines have won four of the past six in this rivalry and had tremendous spread numbers the past couple years.

However, Marshall says this is a matchup where you can throw out trends from past season. Michigan is struggling badly with a 1-6 ATS record, while Michigan State has covered in three of its past four, including an outright upset as a 6.5-point underdog against Iowa last week.

“The Spartans are 4-1 as underdogs for head coaching Jonathan Smith, a role he played well previously at Oregon State (17-10-1 between 2019-23),” Marshall told SportsLine. See which other picks to make here
