Quarterback room in need of more players after transfers | Sports

The Nebraska football news has been abundant this week. From additions and departures on the coaching staff, players transferring, National Signing Day and more, a lot of turnover is happening.

It’s no different in the quarterback room. Freshman signal caller Dylan Raiola is still the guy but he will have different teammates backing him up next season.

For starters, freshman quarterback Daniel Kaelin announced he would be transferring on Tuesday. This wasn’t a surprise as the two were in the same recruiting class and Raiola was set to start for the foreseeable future.

“I think Danny [Kaelin] did everything the right way,” head coach Matt Rhule said at Wednesday’s media availability. “I respect him. I think he’s going to be a great player. We would love to have him here.”

Rhule announced on Wednesday that junior quarterback Heinrich Haarberg is willing to switch to another position. Haarberg was mostly used as a decoy, coming in during special situations during the regular season. His six-foot-six frame with his track speed and athleticism shows his pro potential at a different position.

“We’ve made a commitment to Heinrich [Haarberg] that we would let him explore some other positions,” Rhule said. “He really wants to be a pro player with his athleticism. That would mean we would probably need to look at a third quarterback.”

Anticipate Haarberg to be a legitimate Swiss Army knife with Dana Holgorsen now as the permanent offensive coordinator. Holgorsen utilized Haarberg as a wildcat quarterback when he took over more than previous OC Marcus Satterfield.

The most likely position for the Kearney native is tight end. The New Orleans Saints do this with Taysom Hill, who takes direct snaps out of a wildcat formation and will routinely line up on the line of scrimmage as well.

It’s doubtful that Haarberg would explore options on the defensive side but he was an end at times on the punt unit this season. He also might be utilized as a wide receiver for perimeter blocking and going up for jump balls. With nearly a month to prepare for the bowl game, Haarberg might already see an increased role to close out the season.

Nebraska also added another quarterback on Wednesday in 4-star signee TJ Lateef. The Elite-11 QB will redshirt barring injuries next season.

“TJ [Lateef] is coming in and we’re really high on him,” Rhule said.

With Haarberg switching positions, Kaelin transferring and Lateef coming in, that only leaves Nebraska with two scholarship quarterbacks. Even though Haarberg could still play quarterback, Rhule will need to hit the portal to add insurance.

“If we need to get a third guy to be (in) that room we would probably do it,” Rhule said. “We probably will. Heinrich (Haarberg) gives us some flexibility.”

The Huskers also have walk-ons under center with freshman Bode Soukup, sophomore Luke Longval and senior Jalyn Gramstad. Gramstad has another year of eligibility remaining if he desires. Who’s to say these walk-ons will still have a spot on the roster with the incoming 105-player limit?

Anticipate Rhule, Holgorsen and the entire offensive staff to go find a decent backup that they can pay in the transfer portal.

  • “Don’t Have Any Room” – Joe Rogan Comes Clean on Lack of Knowledge About Sports Other Than MMA

“Don’t Have Any Room” – Joe Rogan Comes Clean on Lack of Knowledge About Sports Other Than MMA

Joe Rogan is an ardent lover of the fight game. While the podcaster is best known for his association with the UFC, where he has been calling fights for over two decades, fans know that his love for combat sports is much more comprehensive and is not restricted to the Dana White-led promotion. To the point that he spends multiple hours a day watching fights despite his podcasting, comedy, and commentating career.

This is not a guess or speculation but has been confirmed by the man himself. Speaking to TV personality Mike Rowe on episode #2235 of his JRE podcast, Rogan revealed that he is such a big fight nerd that he literally cannot follow any other sports. Why? Well, because he just doesn’t have the brain space to be able to do so.

“I can’t [follow other sports]. I don’t have any room. It [the bucket] 100% is [full], you know. Like I watch football now, my wife’s into football. But I can’t. I can only pay attention so much. My head is filled with combat sports. I have to follow jiu-jitsu, Muay Thai, MMA in the UFC, MMA in the PFL, Bellator, One FC,” he said.

The Texas resident claimed that he feels professionally obligated to watch MMA, Muay Thai, BJJ, and other sports for up to two hours a day since any of the fighters he follows may make their way to the UFC.

“I have to keep track of a thousand fighters, like literally a thousand fighters. Maybe, casually, some of them, like some of the Glory kickboxers – casually I’m watching, you know. Oh, you know this guy’s fighting, that guy’s fighting, I know who these people are, I watch them fight. I’m watching fights [for] just hours and hours a day. I might watch fights for two hours every day,” he added. While he acknowledged that it was fun, despite being tied to his profession, he said that he felt obligated to follow multiple combat sports to keep an eye out for future UFC prospects.

But where does Joe Rogan’s love for combat sports come from? Well, where else but from his own experience as a fighter, which he had to unfortunately abandon for a host of reasons.

Why did Joe Rogan give up on his professional fighting dreams?

Joe Rogan, of course, used to be a martial artist himself. Quite a good one at that. The UFC commentator used to be a full-contact taekwondo practitioner and was even a four-time Massachusetts state champion. Apart from his, Rogan also holds a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under Eddie Bravo from 10th Planet Jiu-Jitsu, while also having trained as a kickboxer and Muay Thai artist.

However, a few things compelled him to give up competing pretty early. One of the most traumatic experiences was when he kicked one of his opponents so hard that they just didn’t get up and had to be taken to the hospital on a stretcher. This incident visibly shook the young Joe Rogan, who imagined himself in his opponent’s position, acknowledging the dangers of competing in combat sports, despite the accolades and glory associated with winning.

Another thing that pushed him out was him realizing he was taking a lot of punishment to his head. Back when Rogan used to fight, the culture was very different. Hard sparring was common and the podcast host would often go home with constant headaches that never seemed to go away. Seeing some of the other, older fighters suffering from CTE served as another wake-up call for him.

Not to mention, back then, there was no money in being a professional kickboxer. MMA wasn’t a thing back then, and the only money to be made in combat sports was in boxing or pro wrestling, neither of which he was trained in or had much interest in pursuing. Unsurprisingly, all of these factors led to Rogan abandoning a fighting career in favor of his second love, i.e., comedy.

But his love for combat sports stands strong and, the UFC commentator is an avid follower of all things combat sports to this day. What do you think about Joe Rogan’s revelations about his dedication to watching combat sports?

Room for big boys toys at lavish Wallington lifestyle property

A prestige Bellarine Peninsula acreage property with garaging for 14 cars should have big boy toy enthusiasts revved up.

There’s plenty of room to store jetskis, boats or even luxury vehicle collections at the lavish semirural entertainer, which brings together all the ingredients for a good life.

A swimming pool, spa, sauna room and deck framing tranquil views of surrounding farmland are key to the resort-style vibes at 1161-1169 Bellarine Highway, Wallington.

Two bidders vie for home in Belmont’s ‘best street’

The property has been extensively landscaped, with irrigation throughout.

The view from the deck makes you feel like you’re living miles from anywhere.

The vendors have spared no expense on building the architectural four-bedroom house, just moments from Adventure Park and the Flying Brick Cider House.

But, two years after finishing their ‘forever home’, they’re eyeing their next project.

Their 1.74ha property is expected to fetch circa $4.5m.

Gartland, Geelong agent Greg Matheson is calling for expression of interest by November 25.

He said everything about the home is luxurious, from the internal fittings to the extensive landscaping with beautiful uplighting at night.

The planting design has been chosen to reduce noise via growth patterns.

Burnished concrete floors feature in the open-plan living zone.

Recycled Geelong bricks sourced from the waterfront make an appearance.

There’s lots of space to host friends and family.

“With that backdrop at the rear of the property overlooking the pool and entertaining deck there’s a feeling that you are on a much larger piece of land than what you are and that’s because as far as the eye can see it’s green pastures and farmland, breathtaking,” Mr Matheson said.

“But at the same time, you’re a stone’s throw to amenities in just about every direction, whether it’s the Surf Coast or Bellarine Peninsula wineries or Geelong, it’s such a pivotable location.”

An open-plan living zone with burnished concrete floors, raked ceilings and high-end kitchen is the centrepiece of the home.

It merges with a large north-facing deck featuring an outdoor kitchen and Vergola roof, the pool and sunken fire pit seating.

The main bedroom suite has its own electric heater.

The circular driveway adds to the sense of prestige.

Both the rumpus room in the children’s wing and the luxurious main bedroom suite also have direct deck access.

In addition to a triple garage attached to the main house, the second stand-alone shed providing three bays, three-phase power, a bathroom and laundry so you can wash up before coming inside.

“It has to be seen to believe just how much attention to detail is involved,” Mr Matheson said. “There isn’t anything that’s been missed, forgotten or misplaced, it’s very deliberate in its architectural design and functionality.”

  • Even Jon Jones Admits He’s Not Walking Out of a Room With These Two Athletes

Even Jon Jones Admits He’s Not Walking Out of a Room With These Two Athletes

Everybody and their dog know at this point that Dana White thinks Jon Jones is the greatest mixed martial artist of all time. Not to mention the most dangerous as well! To illustrate this point, the UFC CEO uses a very unique hypothetical situation. The head honcho believes that if Jon Jones is locked in a room with any fighter in the world, Jones will be the only one walking out of that room.

Recently, in a recent interview with ‘Broadcast Boys’, Jones was asked about the possibility of going up against the Paul brothers, i.e. Jake Paul and Logan Paul. And ‘Bones’ had a surprising and humble answer.

“I don’t know if I would be capable of knocking them both out. I think I would get out of the scenario and maybe get away from them. They both are respectable athletes. They both grew up on the wrestling team. Jake definitely has some serious punching power. I don’t even know if I’d make it out of that one if I’m being honest,” he said.

While some feel Jones was being humble in his answer, his response does seem to hold a lot of merit. After all, as Jones pointed out, Jake Paul is no slouch and is a pretty good boxer. While he may not have been tested against a real active contender in his weight class, he is technically proficient and has knockout power to boot.

His older brother Logan, too, is an athlete, having wrestled in High School and become a veritable WWE star in recent times. While Jones will no doubt easily dispatch both Pauls individually, he would have a much much harder time dealing with them together. But right now Jake Paul is targeting another UFC superstar, trying to goad them into a fight.

Jake Paul looking to fight a bigger UFC star than Jon Jones

Jake Paul wants to fight Conor McGregor. But then again, that is old news since the former Disney star has been wanting to do that since his celebrity boxing career began. But this time around, Jake has called out ‘Mac’ for an MMA fight, with no weight restrictions!

“Let’s run it in MMA. No weight class. Just like how it used to be done. But you won’t,” Paul wrote in part to McGregor on X. And while the Irishman confirmed that he had indeed heard from the co-founder of Jake Paul’s promotion, he ridiculed ‘The Problem Child’s fondness for fighting old men. McGregor posted a picture of 82-year-old Republican Senator Mitch McConnell in his reply tweet and joked that the politician would be Jake’s next opponent.

Of course, this call-out is likely nothing more than Jake trying to generate headlines. After all, ‘Mac’ still has two fights left on his UFC contract. And since Dana White despises Paul, there is no chance they would allow the Dubliner to fight and make Jake a lot of money. What do you think about Jon Jones’s answer to a hypothetical fight with Jake and Logan Paul?

  • JaMarcus Shephard shares message to Alabama football WR room

For JaMarcus Shephard, Alabama football is “war,” whether it’s on the practice field or on Saturdays. And with that intensity and physicality comes injuries like the lower-body ailment that ended Cole Adams’ season.

It’s part of the game, Shephard said. And with that comes a lesson, one the Alabama wide receivers coach has repeatedly conveyed to his group.

“Stay ready so you don’t have to get ready,” Shephard said. “That’s really been the lesson for them. When your moment comes, you better have prepared in a way that you are at an All-American level of preparation. That’s all I can tell them to do. You never know when your time is coming. You never know.”

It’s what Shephard saw immediately from Ryan Williams.

In one of the Alabama freshman wide receiver’s first practices, Shephard remembers veteran members of his room flocking toward him, saying, ‘Hey, get the ball to No. 2.’

“That’s the thing about here at the University of Alabama,” Shephard said. “These guys, they recognize who is playing at a high level.”

  • Man Utd dressing room reaction to Sporting 4-1 Man City as Ruben Amorim receives message | Football | Sport

Man Utd dressing room reaction to Sporting 4-1 Man City as Ruben Amorim receives message | Football | Sport

Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana has revealed he was among the players who tuned into Sporting’s demolition of Manchester City on Tuesday night. Incoming Red Devils head coach Ruben Amorim outwitted Pep Guardiola to mark his Lisbon farewell with a touch of Champions League magic.

Viktor Gyokeres’ hat-trick added to Maximiliano Araujo’s strike to cancel out Phil Foden’s early opener and record a memorable 4-1 triumph at the Jose Alvalade Stadium.

Amorim saved one of his finest Sporting results as a parting gift for the kingdom he has built across a transformative four-year reign.

On that note, Brobdingnagian, imagined in Jonathan Swift’s Gulliver’s Travels, is a kingdom where everything was of an enormous scale.

That fictitious land will become a reality for Amorim when he switches his self-crafted dominance in Lisbon for the bright lights of a seemingly impossible job in Manchester.

The 39-year-old admitted himself after full-time on Tuesday that he is tasked with lifting United from a “low” point, just as he did Sporting in 2020.

If how Amorim orchestrated a masterclass against the Premier League champions didn’t enthuse United’s fragile squad, nothing will.

But Onana hailed the Portuguese giants’ victory and insisted that he and his team-mates would be ready for the challenge of adapting to Amorim’s vision.

“Yeah, I did. I did watch the game yesterday. Great victory from them, different system, but my players, my team-mates, we are all pragmatic,” Onana explained ahead of Thursday’s Europa League clash against PAOK.

“I think everyone is capable of playing in each system so I don’t think this will be an issue for us. We have big players, so we’ll step up.”

United host PAOK at Old Trafford, desperately needing three points, having surrendered leads to draw all three of their opening Europa League fixtures.

Ruud van Nistelrooy will remain in interim charge for the Greek champions’ visit, as well as Leicester City’s in the Premier League on Sunday.

Amorim is set to start work at Carrington on Monday after overseeing his final Sporting match, a trip to his former club, SC Braga.

Van Nistelrooy’s status once Amorim gets started is up in the air, despite only making his welcome return to Old Trafford in the summer.

And the Dutchman has admitted he has yet to talk to the Sporting boss ahead of his arrival in Manchester.

He said: “No, I haven’t had contact so far. There’s no changes in that. I don’t know when [I will speak to Amorim].”
