Woman Stumbles Upon Late Grandmothers Stunning Salt And Pepper Shaker Collection

Life, at times, throws delightful surprises your way when you least expect them. For Rachel Whitten, a 33-year-old teacher from Rover, Arkansas, a trip down memory lane became something extraordinary when she discovered a treasure trove of sentimental value left by her late grandmother, Sharon Tidwell. It wasn’t just an old chest of heirlooms or some forgotten trinkets hidden in a dusty attic. Instead, Rachel stumbled upon the stunning legacy of Sharon’s 1,150-piece salt and pepper shaker collection, a quirky, heartfelt passion her grandmother had nurtured over decades.
Imagine walking into a room that feels more like a mini-museum than a living space, with each shaker telling a different story. Well, that’s exactly what Rachel experienced, and it left her in awe. According to the New York Post, Sharon, who passed away last month at the age of 80, had been collecting these unique keepsakes since her mid-40s, when she inherited a few pieces from her mother. What started as a modest collection soon blossomed into a captivating assortment, thanks to her eye for treasures at flea markets, yard sales, and thoughtful gifts from friends and family.

Each piece held meaning, and over the years, Sharon’s love for her shakers only grew stronger. “It was mind-blowing,” Rachel admitted, reflecting on the sheer scale of what she had uncovered. “We always knew she loved them, but it wasn’t until we counted them that we realized just how massive the collection was. She had a shaker for every occasion – Christmas, Halloween, and even quirky souvenirs from her travels,” she said.
The collection wasn’t just about quantity; some of the pieces were genuinely remarkable, like a vintage hanging strawberry shaker set, valued at about $150-$200. Yet, for Rachel, the most cherished piece was a hand-carved shaker made from deer antler, crafted by her father during a hunting trip. “That one was her favourite,” Rachel shared. Sharon’s shakers were displayed in custom-made wooden cabinets throughout her home, organized by theme. “It felt like walking through a museum. She could tell you the story behind each piece, who gave it to her, and the special memory that came with it,” Rachel recalled. The collection wasn’t just a hobby; it was a living, breathing testament to Sharon’s life and the people who had touched it.
For Rachel and her sister, Sarah Cole, now 34, caring for the collection became part of their childhood routine. Dusting the shakers often felt like more of a chore – sometimes even a punishment if they misbehaved. “If you got in trouble, you’d be put to work cleaning them,” Rachel laughed, recalling the times when the two of them were assigned the task. “I remember when we accidentally broke a set of teepees and had to glue them back together,” she added.

As time passes, the two sisters are finding new homes for the collection. They’ve decided to keep some of the pieces close to their hearts, while others will be donated or sold to collectors. In one particularly touching gesture, Rachel plans to give away a moving, oinking shaker set to a woman who had lost a similar one in a fire. The outpouring of love from the community has been overwhelming. “People on TikTok have reached out, saying how these remind them of loved ones. It’s so special to see how something so simple can bring so much joy. That’s what makes this all so meaningful – passing on the happiness,” Rachel said.

  • Himalayan Pink Salt Vs. Table Salt: Which Is The Real Winner?

Himalayan Pink Salt Vs. Table Salt: Which Is The Real Winner?

Salt enhances the flavour of our meals, bringing them to life. Without salt, dishes would taste bland and unappetizing. It also helps balance flavours, reducing excess bitterness or sweetness. In short, salt is an indispensable cooking essential. However, as much as we depend on it, salt also contains high levels of sodium, which, when consumed in excess, can lead to health issues. To address this concern, many have switched from regular table salt to alternatives like Himalayan pink salt. But is Himalayan pink salt truly a healthier choice or just another health fad? Let’s uncover the truth so you can make an informed decision.

So, Should You Choose Himalayan Pink Salt Or Table Salt?

Fitness coach Ralston D’Souza recently took to Instagram to clarify this question. According to him, Himalayan pink salt is not as healthy as it’s often claimed to be. He explains, “Regular table salt contains about 97 to 99% sodium chloride, with the remaining 1 to 3% made up mostly of anti-caking agents to prevent clumping. Himalayan pink salt, on the other hand, contains about 95 to 98% sodium chloride, with the remaining 2 to 5% consisting of trace minerals like iron, which gives it its distinct pink colour.”
Ralston further emphasizes that the daily recommended salt intake is approximately 1 teaspoon. The trace minerals in Himalayan pink salt (2 to 5%) are too minimal to make any significant difference to your health. From a health perspective, there’s no major difference between the two types of salt. He advises sticking with regular table salt, as it contains iodine, which Himalayan pink salt lacks. For those with high blood pressure, he suggests opting for low-sodium salt.

    Watch the complete video below:

Other Studies Supporting That Himalayan Pink Salt Is Not Superior

Ralston’s insights are backed by several other studies. According to the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the mineral composition of pink salt available in Australia did show traces of essential nutrients and minerals. However, the concentrations were so low that one would need to consume approximately 6 teaspoons of pink salt to achieve any meaningful nutritional benefit-far exceeding the recommended daily intake.

According to the expert, Himalayan pink salt isn’t significantly healthier than regular table salt. Both are nearly identical in their nutritional impact. Ultimately, the type of salt you choose matters less than the quantity you consume. Being mindful of your salt intake is crucial to avoid overconsumption and its negative health effects. As with many things in life, less is always more.

What Happens When You Eat Too Much Salt?

If you are consuming too much salt daily, it can have several long-term effects on your body. The most common side effect is heightened blood pressure – where blood is being forcefully pushed against the artery walls. Some other common symptoms include the development of multiple sclerosis, heart diseases, headaches, enlarged muscle tissue, damage to organs, kidney stones, osteoporosis, etc. A very evident side effect of too much salt intake is water retention in the body, which could lead to swelling in parts of the body.

Should You Add Salt on Top Of Your Meals?

Yes, you can. As per nutritionist Amita Gadre (@amitagadre) adding salt on top of your meals would not cause any problems. However, it is important to make sure that you aren’t consuming foods that are too savoury or salty to manage your total sodium intake for the day. Many times, we add salt while cooking the ingredients to fasten the process and prevent burning. For example: while cooking onion. The expert says it is completely fine to add salt on top of your meals to enhance their flavour.

How Much Salt Is Okay To Consume Everyday?

As per the expert, it is important to note your salt intake throughout the day. Make sure only to consume 1 teaspoon (5 grams) of salt in a day and not more than that. This is because you obtain sodium from other foods as well and not just from the extra salt being put on top of your foods.

    Watch the full video below:

How To Reduce Salt Intake On A Daily Basis?

You can easily reduce your salt consumption by tweaking your daily habits. Follow these easy tips to control your salt intake.

    1. Avoid Processed Foods

The ready-to-eat packaged snacks available in the market today have high levels of salt in them. These food products have unhealthy levels of salt that make them tastier but are immensely harmful to us. Instead of buying salty snacks, try munching on healthier options like fruits, nuts and seeds.

    2. Limit Pickles, Papads and Chutneys

Pickles, papads and chutneys definitely make the food taste better but have high amounts of salt in them. If you are consuming them in your daily meals, keep the salt levels in your food lower and compensate it with condiments.

    3. Cook At Home

Not only will it be pocket-friendly, but cooking at home can help you control your salt intake. Instead of using salt directly, you can use herbs and seasonings to make them nutritious and more delicious. Try substituting salt with seasonings the next time you are cooking.

    4. Eat Fruits And Vegetables With Less Sodium

Another way to reduce your salt intake is by eating fruits and vegetables with low sodium content. Fruits and veggies like apples, berries, oranges, mangoes, broccoli, sweet potatoes, okra, etc. should be added to your daily diet as they have lower sodium levels.

    5. Read Food Labels

Before you buy food, read the labels carefully. Make sure to only buy and consume foods with lower sodium levels to keep a check on your daily salt intake. Start by reducing salt in your daily foods and gradually, your taste buds will get immune to this change.

  • Season 5 Of The Real Housewives Of Salt Lake City Picks Up Where The Drama Left Off

Season 5 Of The Real Housewives Of Salt Lake City Picks Up Where The Drama Left Off

Season five of Bravo’s The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City premieres on Wednesday, Sept. 18. RHOSLC has been full of controversy and drama since it debuted in 2020, in large part the result of veteran cast member Jen Shah’s prison sentence in early 2023. Jen left the show after Season 3, at which point fans may have thought RHOSLC was destined to be boring.

Season 4 cast member Monica Garcia brought a new round of controversy. Revelations about Monica and her involvement with RealityVonTease, an Instagram account known for trashing the RHOSLC cast, left viewers and fellow cast members speechless. Monica will not return for Season 5 of RHOSLC, but her influence will likely remain strong.

The new season of RHOSLC will feature Lisa Barlow, Heather Gay, Meredith Marks, and Whitney Rose—all Housewives who’ve remained on the show since the beginning. Mary Cosby from the first two seasons is also returning to the main cast, as is Season 4 veteran Angie Katsanevas. Bronwyn Newport is the lone new face in RHOSLC Season 5.

    7 Lisa Barlow

A native of New York, Lisa Barlow converted to Mormonism as a child with her family. After attending Brigham Young University, Lisa now runs her marketing company, LUXE, while she and her husband, John, founded VIDA tequila. The mother of two also has a business with her sons, Jack and Henry.

Barlow describes herself as “Mormon 2.0” and, in 2020, she explained to Andy Cohen that it involved aspects of orthodox Mormonism mixed with her lifestyle, especially her connection to alcohol. Lisa’s castmates have scrutinized her beliefs, notably when Lisa’s son, Jack, focused more on traditional tenets of the Mormon faith.

Lisa and fellow housewife Heather Gay met at BYU and her close friendship with Meredith Marks has been a focal point of the show. During Season 4, Lisa was at odds with Monica Garcia when the revelations about Monica’s connection to the RealityVonTease Instagram account came to light.

    6 Heather Gay

Heather Gay co-owns Beauty Lab + Laser in Utah while raising her three daughters and navigating life as a divorcee in the Mormon church. Heather published a New York Times bestselling memoir called Bad Mormon in 2023, the success of which was a large focal point for the housewife and her family during Season 4 of RHOSLC.

In February 2024, revelations that Heather used Ozempic to lose weight came under scrutiny due to her purported focus on body positivity. Heather responded to ABC News’ Deborah Roberts to the accusations that she was a “copout.”

“It’s disappointing [and] sad to know that body positivity was all a big lie… because it’s better to not be overweight.”

    5 Meredith Marks

    Meredith Seth Marriage

Chicago native Meredith Marks is a jewelry designer with a brand of luxury items, including caviar. In addition to her entrepreneurship, Meredith dedicates herself to numerous charitable causes.

After Meredith and her husband, Seth, experienced difficulty in their marriage during Season 1 of RHOSLC, the couple reconciled and maintained a strong relationship throughout the show. Often at odds with Lisa Barlow and Whitney Rose, Meredith has been accused of gossiping about her fellow cast members on numerous occasions.

Meredith talked about her “weird” medical condition on Page Six’s Virtual Reali-Tea podcast in early September 2024 to explain that she had a third breast-reduction surgery. She previewed that the subject would be part of the first episode of RHOSLC Season 5, noting that her castmates got a good chuckle over the fact that Meredith’s breasts continue to grow.

    4 Whitney Rose

Whitney Rose, who’s cousins with co-star Heather Gay, left Mormonism after an extramarital affair with her boss, Justin, and an unexpected pregnancy ended her first marriage. Now married, Whitney and Justin have two children, Bobbi and Brooks.

Whitney has a line of skincare products called Iris and Beau, assists her father as he navigates health issues, and launched a jewelry line during Season 4. In addition to tension with her cousin, Heather, Whitney has also struggled to maintain a friendship with Meredith.

    3 Mary Cosby

RHOSLC alum Mary Cosby returns to Season 5 as a full-time cast member. Mary’s initial exit from the show may have been related to her marriage to Robert Cosby Sr., her step-grandfather. Mary and Robert Sr. have a son, Robert Jr., whose new wife reportedly moved in with the family at some point during or after Season 4.

Mary’s return will likely reveal the cause of her broken friendship with Meredith Marks. Meredith told Extra in anticipation of Season 5 that she doesn’t “understand” what caused the feud between her and Mary:

“I don’t really know what the problem is there, which is a bit unsettling to me, because, usually when there’s a problem, I like to understand what it is… And usually when someone starts coming at me, there should be a reason for it, especially when I’ve been there for them for years when nobody else would be.”

    2 Angie Katsanevas

Promoted from “friend of” to main cast member between Seasons 3 and 4, Angie Katsanevas and her husband, hairdresser Shawn Trujillo, run Lunatic Fringe Salons in Utha, Ohio, and Idaho. Angie and Shawn share one daughter, Elektra, who excels as an equestrian.

Angie and Shawn’s marriage is often talked about, with rumors circulating about the couple’s stability. During Season 4, revelations that the couple had not been on a date in years prompted speculation that their relationship was in trouble. Angie insists that she and Shawn spend their time focusing on Elektra. Angie said at the Season 4 reunion, “This never came up ’til this rat came out of the sewer.”

The “rat” in question was Monica Garcia.

    1 Bronwyn Newport

    Newport From RHOSLC
    via: Bravo

Newcomer Bronwyn Newport was enlisted to the RHOSLC by veteran cast member Lisa Barlow. After Bronwyn got pregnant as a student at BYU, she was excommunicated by the Mormon church. She raised her daughter, Gwen, on her own until meeting Todd, her current husband.

Bronwyn’s website describes her as a “successful Broadway producer and influential fashion blogger.” As a socialite known for her taste and style, Bronwyn also participates in charitable activities and serves on multiple boards in Salt Lake City.

In addition to the main cast, RHOSLC will include friends Meili Workman, a model and mother of four, and Britani Bateman, a Utah native who works in real estate.

Season 5 of The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City will premiere at 9 p.m. ET/PT on Wednesday, Sept. 18 on Bravo. Episodes stream the following day on Peacock.

  • New In Kala Ghoda: Head To Pass The Salt For The Ultimate Pizza Indulgence

New In Kala Ghoda: Head To Pass The Salt For The Ultimate Pizza Indulgence

There is no dearth of pizza spots in Mumbai, leaving the curious pizza lover spoilt for choice. From affordable and popular staples to wholesome artisanal versions, the city has places catering to various pizza preferences. So how does one stand out and entice foodies to return? The answer does not have to be overly complicated. Pass The Salt, a new pizza destination in Fort, shows that it’s all about thoughtfulness and technique. Our recent dinner at the cafe allowed us to taste some of its signature dishes and we experienced a delightful convergence of flavour and texture.

Co-founders Kruti Sanghvi and Vishal Shah first established Pass The Salt as a pizza delivery kitchen during the COVID-19 pandemic. Kruti became a self-taught chef after quitting her job as a biomedical engineer. Operating out of Vile Parle, the cloud kitchen specialised in indulgent Chicago-style deep-dish pizzas and Vienna-style thin-crust pizzas. The former was something Kruti was especially excited to deliver to Mumbaikars. After forming a loyal customer base all over the city, the couple decided to take their venture to the next level and set up a dine-in establishment offering its bestsellers and other innovative dishes.

Eventually, Pass The Salt opened the doors of its cafe in June 2024 in a heritage building in South Mumbai’s Fort area – situated in a bylane opposite St. Thomas Cathedral. You may miss it while strolling down the more popular streets of this historic neighbourhood. But that’s the thrill of finding a hidden gem which is seemingly tucked away in plain sight. Inside the establishment, the decor exudes simplicity and comfort through its checkerboard flooring and seating with B&W stripes. The well-lit space has a casual and warm vibe, creating an atmosphere for relaxation through food. Those wanting to grab a quick bite and drink can also sit at the coffee bar opposite the entryway.

The fully vegetarian menu features sharing plates, calzones, tartines, burrata plates, grilled cheese sandwiches and non-alcoholic drinks, apart from the two signature types of pizzas. The beverages include specialty coffees, artisanal hot brews and cold coffees by the homegrown brand Koinonia Coffee Roasters. We began our meal with a generous portion of the Avocado & Grapefruit Salad, whose wholesomeness contrasted with the indulgence of the Spaghetti Cheese Croquettes. While the cafe doesn’t serve pasta, its alternative use as a filling is fun and gratifying (there’s also a pizza stuffed with Mac & Cheese on the menu). Many of the appetisers feature bread bases, but the croquettes are among the few exceptions.

As we took our time deciding our pizza orders, we sipped on the Chamomile Blue Pea Iced Tea – which turned out to be a rather polarising drink at our table. It’s a unique combination that may win you over or may seem too bizarre to taste. A less risky choice is the refreshing Black Currant Iced Tea with a green tea base. Our favourite beverage discovery of the evening was the Oko-Caribe Iced Latte, made with the eponymous cacao from the Dominican Republic. The cold mocha beautifully balanced the potency of the chocolate and coffee. It also had a subtle hint of bitterness that we loved.

Among the options for the Chicago-style Double Crust Deep Dish Pizza, we selected the San Gennaro (filled with onions, roasted red peppers, banana peppers, marinated black olives and jalapenos). All the deep-dish pizzas here are made with a rich San Marzano sauce and whole milk mozzarella. Our server lifted a slice from the pan to the plate and the sight of the stringy ‘cheese pull’ looked like something out of a foodie dream. As we bit into the crust and through the layers, we closed our eyes in pure enjoyment. The crust was solid enough to carry the weight without contributing much heaviness to the pizza. Despite the apparent decadence of the dish, the freshness and balance of the ingredients ensured we didn’t feel unpleasantly full after eating so much.

The pizza that followed was also a testament to the mastery of technique at Pass The Salt. Among the signature Thin Crust Pizzas, we chose the Hawaiian Barbeque. It’s the only one in this category that doesn’t feature a San Marzano sauce. Detractors of “pineapple on pizza” may disagree, but when executed well, this fruit can lend a wonderful complexity to this beloved treat. And the version here is proof. The sweetness of the juicy marinated pineapple (complemented with grilled onion rings and smooth barbeque sauce) clashed deliciously with the heat of green chillies and red paprika. The other aspect that wowed us was the buttery and flaky base, which was reminiscent of a crispy croissant. It was a notch above a regular thin crust, as it added another dimension to the pizza without stealing the spotlight from the toppings.

For dessert, we tried the Burnt Basque Cheesecake, which was good but needed a creamier texture. We did not get to try the savoury dessert named after the brand as it was over by the end of our dinner. But we relished a heavenly bowl of Salted Caramel Gelato in its place.

Pass The Salt is well worth the hike to Kala Ghoda and is fortunately located just a few hundred metres behind the Flora Fountain. Those already frequenting the area should take advantage of having such a spot in their proximity. And those who cannot make it to the cafe can savour the delights at home (within the extended delivery radius). The pizzas are known to travel quite well, and this is a point of pride for the brand, we are told.
