What To Eat To Beat Hormonal Acne? Experts Share Tips And Foods To Eat

Hormonal acne is super common, especially among adults. If you’re not familiar with it, this skin condition happens when hormonal changes cause your body to produce too much sebum. To deal with it, many of us turn to various natural remedies, skincare products, or even medical treatments, but sometimes, the solution is much simpler-what you eat. That’s right, your diet can make a huge difference when it comes to controlling hormonal acne. Your gut health directly impacts your skin, so it’s important to focus on getting the right nutrients. If you’re struggling with hormonal acne, here are some expert-approved foods and tips to help improve your skin health.

Diet Tips You Need To Tackle Hormonal Acne:

As experts say, diet plays a major role in managing hormonal acne. Here’s how you can adjust what you eat to support your skin:

    1. Foods Rich In Omega-3 Fatty Acids

Omega-3 fatty acids are game-changers when it comes to managing hormonal acne. These nutrients help reduce inflammation in the body, and skin specialist Dr Shivanti suggests adding omega-3-rich foods like pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, almonds, and walnuts to your daily routine. These foods not only fight inflammation, but they also help regulate sebum levels and balance hormones in your body.

    2. Foods Rich In Zinc

Just like omega-3 fatty acids, foods packed with zinc can also help control hormonal acne. According to experts, zinc has anti-inflammatory properties and is great for regulating sebum production. With less sebum, you’ll see fewer acne breakouts. Try including zinc-rich foods like avocado, meat, fish, oysters, and seeds in your diet to give your skin some extra love.

    3. Foods Rich In Inositol

Inositol is a type of sugar that’s found in both foods and your body. It’s key for the growth and development of cells. Dr Shivanti points out that eating foods rich in inositol can help with hormonal balance, which in turn can help keep acne under control. Add inositol-rich foods like citrus fruits, melon, legumes, and whole grains to your diet to support your skin.

Dr Shivanti also suggests cutting out sugar and dairy from your diet entirely, as this can make a noticeable difference in your skin’s condition.

Here Are 5 Tips For Healthy, Glowing Skin:

While hormonal acne definitely requires some extra attention, there are a few more tips you can follow to keep your skin healthy and glowing all year round. Dietician Kanupreet Arora Narang has shared some useful do’s and don’ts that can help you maintain clear, radiant skin:

    1. Avoid High Glycemic Foods

Foods with a high glycemic index can cause a spike in your blood sugar levels, which leads to inflammation and acne. If you want smooth skin, cut back on refined carbs and processed foods like pasta, white bread, and sugary snacks.

    2. Cut Back On Fried Foods

Fried foods, especially those containing unhealthy saturated and trans fats, can trigger inflammation in the body, which leads to skin problems. Limit your intake of fried and processed foods to keep your skin in check.

    3. Don’t Overdo It With Milk

Milk and dairy products can raise your insulin levels, which might worsen acne. Excess dairy also has the potential to disrupt your body’s hormonal balance, leading to more breakouts.

    4. Skip The Sweets

Refined sugar is a major culprit when it comes to worsening acne. It causes inflammation in the body, and when this happens, your skin reacts by breaking out. To keep your skin clear and glowing, it’s best to avoid sugary treats and desserts.

    5. Keep Your Stomach Happy

A bad stomach can seriously affect your skin. Anyone who’s experienced acne flare-ups after digestive issues like diarrhoea or constipation knows the connection. To keep your skin healthy, focus on eating clean and maintaining smooth digestion.

  • Australia won’t force social media users to share their personal details when child ban takes effect

Australia won’t force social media users to share their personal details when child ban takes effect

MELBOURNE, Australia — Australia’s communications minister said Wednesday the government won’t force social media users to hand over their personal information to tech companies, as children younger than 16 are set to be banned from the platforms.

Michelle Rowland plans to introduce into Parliament on Thursday world-first legislation that would make X, TikTok, Facebook and Instagram responsible for excluding Australian children younger than 16 from the platforms.

After the bill becomes law, the platforms would have one year to work out how to implement the ban on younger children before they face fines of up to 50 million Australian dollars ($33 million) for systemic breaches.

How the platforms will be able to determine the ages of account holders is not yet known.

Rowland told Parliament on Wednesday the legislation will contain “robust provisions” to protect social media users’ privacy.

“This is not about government mandating any form of technology or demanding any personal information be handed over to social media companies,” Rowland said.

The government announced last week that a consortium led by British company Age Check Certification Scheme has been contracted to examine various technologies to estimate and verify ages.

In addition to removing children under 16 from social media, Australia is also looking for ways to prevent children under 18 from accessing online pornography, a government statement said.

Age Check Certification Scheme’s chief executive Tony Allen said Monday the technologies being considered included age estimation and age inference. Inference involves establishing a series of facts about individuals that point to them being at least a certain age.

“None of these methods is 100% accurate,” Allen told Australian Broadcasting Corp.

Allen’s company will report back to the Australian government by the end of June next year.

“I think if people understand the risk and the check is carried out close to that risk, then I think people generally are OK … We don’t want our children to be exposed to extreme violent video games or to pornography or to suicide material or to things that are going to cause them problems with their mental development such as body dysmorphia and weight loss and stuff like that,” Allen said.

“What people are less keen on is having to go through ID check and verifications to access the internet generally or to do things online generally,” Allen added.

Digital Industry Group Inc., an advocate for the digital industry in Australia, described the age limit as a “20th century response to 21st century challenges.”

  • Sky Sports Share Update on Arsenal ‘Power Struggle’ After Edu Exit

Sky Sports Share Update on Arsenal ‘Power Struggle’ After Edu Exit

Reports of a power struggle at Arsenal following sporting director Edu’s departure are entirely untrue, Sky Sports journalist Dharmesh Sheth has reported.

The former midfielder, who was part of the Arsenal side that last won the Premier League in 2003/04, announced his departure on Monday, citing his desire to ‘pursue a different challenge’ after spearheading the Gunners’ revival in recent years.

The Brazilian has been responsible for securing key signings such as Martin Odegaard and Declan Rice in recent seasons, as well as Arsenal’s strong performance in recruitment. He is now set to join Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis and his network of clubs.

Initially, reports claimed that Edu’s shock departure was a sign of a power struggle within the Emirates, with journalist Miguel Delaney reporting on the matter:

“There have been a few hints about, not necessarily a power struggle at Arsenal, but a reshuffle in the dynamics and people are speculating about whether that has influenced that decision.

“I think part of it is Edu wanting more power somewhere and the Marinakis group are willing to offer it to him.”

However, Sheth has now dismissed these rumours, stating it was entirely Edu’s decision to move after spending five years with the Gunners since rejoining in July 2019:

“Yes, it is a blow for Arsenal, we understand that they’re disappointed at the news. But I’m told that talk of any kind of internal power struggle is totally untrue. This is entirely Edu’s decision to move.”

Now being lined up to take a senior post within Marinakis’ group, potentially in a chief executive position, Edu has reportedly been offered a package worth considerably more than his current terms at Arsenal and is believed to view the role as the next step in his career progression.

The 46-year-old could now lead Marinakis’ group recruitment efforts to support the likes of Forest, Greek club Olympiacos, and Portuguese side Rio Ave.

According to GMS journalist Ben Jacobs, sources close to both Marinakis and Nottingham Forest have yet to provide a clear indication of when Edu might start, as the scope of the role is still being finalised.

After a disappointing 1-0 loss to Newcastle United at the weekend, the Gunners will be back in action on Wednesday as they take on reigning Italian champions Inter in a Champions League clash.

  • Mum reveals her ‘trick’ for making husband do his share of parenting

Mum reveals her ‘trick’ for making husband do his share of parenting

Mother of two Pace Webb revealed how she shifted her ‘mental load’ (Picture: Instagram/@ourhomeflows)

In most heteronormative relationships, even where household tasks are seemingly split equally, it’s more often than not the mother who takes on the lion’s share of this work.

In fact, in a survey of 2,000 parents conducted by parenting site Netmums, almost 75% of women claimed they did the bulk of childcare and housework, regardless of working hours or patterns.

While the majority of participants agree that men and women should do equal shares of household chores, only 20% of women think this actually happens – compared to 40% of men.

Of course, there’s no doubt that single parents face an even heavier burden. With lone fathers now accounting for 16% of lone-parent families, juggling the responsibilities of parenting, household management and work can lead to burnout and stress.

But it’s not just about who’s doing what – it’s about who’s making sure it all gets done, which is often known as the ‘mental load’. According to a 2024 study, this ‘invisible’ aspect of family life leaves many mums struggling with ‘depression, stress and burnout’.

In response to this age-old issue, one mother of two has come up with a novel way of making her husband a more ‘equal parent’.

The advice? When your husband asks a question, just don’t answer them says lifestyle creator, Pace Webb.

In a video, posted to both her TikTok and Instagram accounts @ourhomeflows, Pace explained: ‘I stopped answering every single question he could figure out for himself.

‘It may sound kind of harsh, but if you’re always answering the questions they’re always going to be asking you, you’re going to be the one who does all the thinking.’

Pace suggests this method could reduce the ‘mental load’ mothers typically carry and lead to a more equal partnership.

The short clip has since garnered over 37,000 likes and thousands of comments from mothers sharing their own experiences.

User ‘proazil5’ wrote: ‘It’s called the “mental load” and women have to carry it every day. When your husband keeps asking questions he can answer for himself her has no idea that you already have 100 million other things swirling around your brain.’

Meanwhile, ‘Rockpinup’ added: ‘She means stuff like when you have just opened up the fridge and IMMEDIATELY ask “Hunny, where’s the ketchup?” Or “The baby has a wet nappy, you want me to change it?”

‘These questions don’t need to be asked. You’re giving your woman more stress. Also, take the initiative to do stuff yourself. You see dishes? Do them. You see things on the floor; pick them up. It shouldn’t always fall on us!’

Others shared the ways they typically distribute the mental load. User ‘_prettyonmebeauty’ wrote: ‘My favourite phrase is ‘Idk’ [I don’t know] started doing this to conserve my energy and give him space to find his way. Works so well.’

Meanwhile, ‘themomtrotter’ wrote: ‘Same with my son. I always say, “What do you think Baby?”. I encourage him to think for himself before asking. Redirection is key.’

However, rather than ignoring your partner, Dr Sophie Mort, mental health expert at Headspace and clinical psychologist, suggested being honest with your partner can help lessen the mental load.

Speaking to Metro, she says: ‘The best thing to do is to explain exactly what you are feeling to your partner. Make a list of all the things you are doing that you feel should be evened out and then divide them up.

‘When you can see the difference in responsibilities in black and white, it can help you both to sit and see how the current load is evened out in black and white. Instead of ignoring your partner when they ask you a question like in the Instagram video – you might want to try asking them – if they have tried X or if they have looked under X.

‘There are lots of different ways that you can manage the load between you – but establishing that it exists and that it needs to be tackled is essential – and a key part of this discussion is explaining to your partner how the invisible load makes you feel.’

Being honest with your partner can help lessen the mental load, according to clinical psychologist Dr Sophie Mort (Credits: Getty Images)

According to Charlotte Ball, expert matchmaker and co-founder of the dating agency, Bond, it is ‘crucial’ that couples spend time outlining the list of tasks, responsibilities, and obligations they have to juggle during their daily lives and divide them up equally.

Once this is done, Charlotte advises letting go of the control over the jobs that are not assigned to you.

‘Perhaps your partner will not do these as you would, but it is important to allow them complete autonomy in how they perform their assigned tasks,’ she explains.

However, if you find yourself past that point and burdened with a larger mental load than your partner, Charlotte says: ‘It is important to communicate with them how you feel, to try and stimulate a change.

‘Start by quantifying and capturing how much time is needed to be spent on the mental load and how this is shared between you. Then use this as a starting point for a discussion on how to redress the balance and set priorities and responsibilities for each of you.’

While ‘clear communication’ is vital, how can couples realistically do that?

‘Start by scheduling a fixed time to speak to them when you have no distractions. Remain positive but firm with them,’ Charlotte explains.

    What is the mental load?

The ‘mental load’ refers to the cognitive and emotional burden of managing household and family responsibilities.

A 2019 study identified four clear stages:

    • Anticipate: Realising that you need to start thinking about options
    • Identify: Looking into the types of options that will suit your needs
    • Decide: Choosing the option
    • Monitor: Making sure the plan is carried out

‘Take your feelings out of the equation and speak to them about all the unseen work that happens.

‘Remember, giving detailed insight into this behind-the-scenes labour can give your partner a better understanding, ultimately allowing a fairer redistribution of the work, which could help lighten your load.

‘Be honest and tell them that you would like the division of all visible and invisible work that keeps the household running smoothly to be equal, as this will ensure there is no resentment, that you are working as a team and that your relationship blooms.’

Once you have divided up the tasks, Charlotte says you should ‘make it clear you would like these to be long-term changes and that you will have monthly check-ins to ensure you are both on track with your responsibilities.

‘You may have to do a little hand-holding at first, but gentle encouragement such as inviting them to use a scheduling app or to remember important tasks may help.’

  • Why Do You Crave Chocolate? Experts Share A Possible Health Reason

Why Do You Crave Chocolate? Experts Share A Possible Health Reason

Chocolate Cravings: Have you been experiencing constant chocolate cravings lately? Do you find yourself frequently touring your kitchen in search of chocolates at odd hours? Does your chocolate craving leave you feeling irritated? Trust us, it is more than just your love for chocolate. In fact, according to health experts, it could be a certain nutritional deficiency in your body that is leading to such constant chocolate cravings. Mumbai-based nutritionist Rebecca Pinto explains that each food item you have been yearning for is associated with a specific nutritional element, and your cravings indicate the particular deficiency you are experiencing. In the case of chocolate cravings, it could be a magnesium deficiency. Sounds surprising? Let’s delve deeper into this.

Chocolate Cravings and Magnesium: What Is the Link Between the Two?

Chocolate is a blend of cocoa powder, cocoa butter, and sweetener, and the ratio of each ingredient varies based on your preference. There are dark chocolates, milk chocolates, extra dark chocolates, and more. While many crave chocolates due to high stress, hormonal imbalance, or to satisfy sweet cravings, health experts suggest that magnesium deficiency could be the reason for some.
According to research, published in the Journal of Nutrition by the American Society of Nutrition, cocoa (used in chocolates) contains a high amount of magnesium, which leads researchers to question whether magnesium deficiency could be a possible explanation for people’s chocolate cravings. Nutritionist Nmami Agarwal adds, “Since magnesium can help alleviate muscle cramps, many people, especially menstruating women, tend to crave chocolates to alleviate various types of pain.”

Is Chocolate a Good Option to Prevent Magnesium Deficiency?

A study published in the International Journal of Food Sciences and Nutrition confirms that dark chocolates, containing 90% cocoa, are excellent sources of magnesium. In fact, a 100-gram portion of dark chocolate contains around 252.2 mg of magnesium. However, consuming 90% dark chocolate may be challenging, and as a result, many opt for commercially available chocolates with added sweeteners. Therefore, nutritionist Rebecca Pinto suggests incorporating magnesium-enriched foods like fruits, vegetables, and nuts into your daily diet to compensate for the deficiency. Magnesium Dosage: How Much Should You Take Per Day?

The recommended daily allowance of magnesium varies from person to person, depending on their age, gender, and health condition. According to a report by the Harvard School of Public Health, the Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA) for adults aged 19 to 51+ years is 400-420 mg daily for men and 310-320 mg for women. However, during pregnancy, women require about 350-360 mg of magnesium daily, while lactating mothers require 310-320 mg. It is best to consult an expert and understand the appropriate dosage for your body type.

  • Donald Trump doesn’t share details about his family’s cryptocurrency venture during X launch event

Donald Trump doesn’t share details about his family’s cryptocurrency venture during X launch event

WASHINGTON — WASHINGTON (AP) — Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump on Monday launched his family’s cryptocurrency venture, World Liberty Financial, with an interview on the X social media platform in which he also gave his first public comments on the apparent assassination attempt against him a day earlier.

Trump did not discuss specifics about World Liberty Financial or how it would work, pivoting from questions about cryptocurrency to talking about artificial intelligence or other topics. Instead, he recounted his experience Sunday, saying he and a friend playing golf “heard shots being fired in the air, and I guess probably four or five.”

“I would have loved to have sank that last putt,” Trump said. He credited the Secret Service agent who spotted the barrel of a rifle and began firing toward it as well as law enforcement and a civilian who he said helped track down the suspect.

World Liberty Financial is expected to be a borrowing and lending service used to trade cryptocurrencies, which are forms of digital money that can be traded over the internet without relying on the global banking system. Exchanges often charge fees for withdrawals of Bitcoin and other currencies.

Other speakers after Trump, including his eldest son, Don Jr., talked about embracing cryptocurrency as an alternative to what they allege is a banking system tilted against conservatives.

Experts have said a presidential candidate launching a business venture in the midst of a campaign could create ethical conflicts.

“Taking a pro-crypto stance is not necessarily troubling; the troubling aspect is doing it while starting a way to personally benefit from it,” Jordan Libowitz, a spokesperson for the government watchdog group Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, said earlier this month.

During his time in the White House, Trump said he was “not a fan” of cryptocurrency and tweeted in 2019, “Unregulated Crypto Assets can facilitate unlawful behavior, including drug trade and other illegal activity.” However, during this election cycle, he has reversed himself and taken on a favorable view of cryptocurrencies.

He announced in May that his campaign would begin accepting donations in cryptocurrency as part of an effort to build what it calls a “crypto army” leading up to Election Day. He attended a bitcoin conference in Nashville this year, promising to make the U.S. the “crypto capital of the planet” and create a bitcoin “strategic reserve” using the currency that the government currently holds.

Hilary Allen, a law professor at American University who has done research on cryptocurrencies, said she was skeptical of Trump’s change of heart on crypto.

“I think it’s fair to say that that reversal has been motivated in part by financial interests,” she said.

Crypto enthusiasts welcomed the shift, viewing the launch as a positive sign for investors if Trump retakes the White House.

Meanwhile, Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign has not offered policy proposals on how it would regulate digital assets like cryptocurrencies.

In an effort to appeal to crypto investors, a group of Democrats, including Sens. Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand of New York, participated in an online “Crypto 4 Harris” event in August.

Neither Harris nor members of her campaign staff attended the event.

Stakeholder in Trump’s Truth Social parent company wins court ruling over share transfer

DOVER, Del. — A federal judge in Delaware has ruled in favor of a firm seeking assurance that it will be able to sell its minority stake in the parent company of former president Donald Trump’s Truth Social platform.

The judge on Friday granted summary judgment to Florida-based United Atlantic Ventures LLC in a lawsuit filed against Minnesota-based Odyssey Transfer and Trust Co., a business that handles securities transfers among registered shareholders.

UAV is owned by Andrew Litinsky and Wesley Moss, former contestants on Trump’s TV show, “The Apprentice” who also helped facilitate a merger that took Trump Media public in March.

Since then, UAV and Trump Media have been battling in courts in both Delaware and Florida over UAV’s stake in the company. Attorneys for Trump Media assured a state judge in Delaware earlier this year that UAV was entitled to an 8.6% stake and would suffer no merger-related dilution. They now contend, however, that UAV is not entitled to its shares because of pre-merger mismanagement by Litinsky and Moss.

Friday’s ruling involves UAV’s concerns that it will not receive its Trump Media shares, currently valued at about $350 million, from Odyssey when a post-merger lockup period expires Sept. 19. According to court filings, Odyssey told UAV earlier this year that it would be taking direction from TMTG and its lawyers.

After Odyssey filed a lawsuit, the parties appeared to have reached a resolution, with Odyssey saying it would remove transfer restrictions on the share after the lockup period expires “without preference to any TMTG shareholder.” After seeking approval from Trump Media, however, Odyssey tried to change that language to “on the same basis as other similarly situated TMTG shareholders.”

Trump holds about 115 million TMTG shares, or roughly 60% of the company’s outstanding shares.

U.S. District Judge Gregory Williams questioned Odyssey’s conduct, noting that it claimed the language change was “immaterial,” while allowing it to scuttle settlement negotiations.

“Even outside settlement negotiations, Odyssey’s conduct has been elusive,” Williams wrote.

Williams ordered that when Odyssey is notified by TMTG of the expiration of the lockup provisions, it must promptly notify UAV, remove transfer restrictions on all shares and not interfere with the delivery of the shares.

TMTG’s share price hit a high of $79.38 on its first day of trading but is now hovering around $17, closing Friday at $17.10.
