Sheridan Hawks Junior Hockey Team Sweeps Home And Home Series Vs. Gillette; Prepare For Return Trip To Great Falls – Sheridan Media

The Sheridan Hawks Junior Hockey Team took care of business against one team that was trying to catch up to them in the standings, and are now getting ready to play another team that’s right behind them.

This past weekend, the team won a home and home series vs. Gillette with scores of 8-3 and 8-4.

Josh Serino scored hat tricks in both games.

Head Coach J.J. Santagata says when the games were being played 5-on-5, the Hawks did great, but work is needed on both sides of the power play.

“I think we just came out, we just executed little details, face off plays were really great, getting pucks to the net were great, finding 2nd and 3rd opportunities were great. I think our special teams honestly were really really bad this weekend, but to walk away with 4 points and only score 1 power play goal and let up 3 penalty kill goals is obviously not ideal, but still walk away with 4 points and I think 5 on 5 we played really well, so I was happy with that.”

Up next is another trip to Great Falls, Montana.

The Americans are right behind Sheridan for 2nd place in the NA3HL Frontier Division, and are the only team so far to have success vs. first place Helena.

Coach Santagata adds these 2 teams have split their 4 head-to-head games so far this season, and the Hawks are expecting a challenging weekend.

“They have some new guys since we haven’t seen them in about a month, so we know they’re going to be a good team, coming off beating Helena 1-0 in Helena and then winning their last 3 games as well. They’re an extremely good team, they play a good structure, they’re physical, they’re simple, so we know we’re going into a dogfight. It’s going to be a game that is going to basically be like a playoff atmosphere, so we’re just going to treat it like it’s round 1 of the playoffs and we just got to get 1 game done at a time and hopefully just take care of Friday night and see what happens Saturday.”

The puck drops at Great Falls on both Friday and Saturday at 7:05pm.

The Hawks will be back at home on Friday and Saturday, December 6th and 7th vs. Cody.

The Sheridan Hawks and Gillette Wild played a home and away weekend series, but while they split the travel the Hawks took both the wins.

Friday night the Hawks played before a home crowd at the Whitney Rink in the M&M’s Center.

Early in the first period, Sheridan’s Josh Serino got things started with a goal, assisted by Zach Longnecker and Vincent Leaf.

Kiefer Dunham got the Hawks another goal with assists from Daniel Shelden and Elijah Farris.

The Wild weren’t out of the fight though, and tied it up to initiate the second period with a goal from Tai Kontrec to put the Wild on the board, and then one from Brady Johnson to even it up.

Derek Laite, assisted by Logan Hume and Connor Hulett, added another goal for Sheridan to move them ahead again.

Longnecker got assisted by Leaf and Serino to move the Hawks backup by two to end the period.

In the third, Hume with help from Kadin Edwards and Gavin Elliott got a goal, and Serino, assisted by Leaf and Longnecker, added another.

Gillette kept up the pressure though, and Brady Johnson netted the puck a minute later to bring the game a little closer.

But the Hawks responded by adding to their lead with one from Tyler Kemp, with help from Vlad Zubriichuk and Ernest Allen.

Serino then scored another, his third of the night, assisted by Leaf and Hume, to end the game with a final score of 8 to 3.

Hawks goalie John Simon made 44 saves for the Sheridan Hawks in the win.

Saturday night the Hawks made the trip east to play before an excited group of Gillette fans.

Once again the game was fast paced and hard fought, with the action being much closer than the final score would suggest.

The Sheridan Hawks got off to a fast start, scoring each of the first three goals of the game.

First off to put the biscuit in the basket was Eli White on a power play, assisted by Keifer Dunham.

Serino followed up two minutes later, with an assist by Longnecker, to move the Hawks to a 2-0 lead going into the 2nd period.

Keeping up the momentum, Dunham got one by the Wild netminder off an assist from Charlie Stow two minutes into the start of the period.

However, the Gillette Wild stormed back to make a game of it. In fact, they tied the game 3-3 heading into the third period, two of them on power plays from a Hawks slashing and then an interference call.

In addition, the Hawks lost the bench services of Head Coach JJ Santagata who was ejected following an attempt to dispute a fighting call and game ejection of Vincent Leaf.

But the Hawks players didn’t let that phase them and came roaring back into the game with a short handed goal from Serino, assisted by Logan Sidlauskas.

Zubriichuk scored next, with help from Serino and a Sean Harris to regain a 2 point Sheridan lead.

Hume then added another assisted by Allen to solidify the advantage.

The Wild managed just one more goal and then it was the Hawks the rest of the way with two unassisted goals, one from Serino and the last from Hume to make it 8-4 and put another one in the win column.

Josh Serino scored a hat trick while adding an assist to lead his team to victory away from home, his second of the weekend and his 3rd hatty in his past three games.

Once again Simon had a great night between the pipes, stopping 33 shots for the win.

Sheridan currently is at 15-5-2-0 and holds the second seed in the Frontier Division.

Serino holds on to his place as top goal scorer in the league and third in total points.

The Hawks are away this weekend to play the Great Falls Americans and return home on December 6 & 7 when they host the Yellowstone Quake in their final games before the NA3HL Showcase in Blaine, MN and the holiday break.

Sheridan Hawks Junior Hockey Team Sweep Home Series Vs. Cody; Prepare For Home-And-Home Series Vs. Gillette – Sheridan Media

The Sheridan Hawks were able to fine tune a few things in their home weekend sweep of Cody.

The Hawks won on Friday 8-1 and on Saturday 5-1, to improve their record to 13-7 on the season, and that puts the team in 2nd place in the NA3HL’s Frontier Division.

Elijah Farris says the team was able to get the bench players some playing time and those players went out and proved themselves.

“We got a lot of new guys in the lineup this weekend and I think they all went out and showed that they deserved to be on the team and can make the lineups each night on those bigger and more important games and I think playing simple hockey is what’s going to keep us going.”

Zach Longnecker says once Sheridan had their games in hand, players looked a little bit ahead to which team is next on the schedule.

“We were just kind of working on the little things, getting ready for Gillette this weekend and just starting to get ready for showcase, coming up here soon, so we’re just focused on the little things like just getting the puck in the deep part of rims, just stuff like that.”

The Hawks play a home and home series this weekend vs. Gillette.

Friday’s home game is scheduled to start at 7:30pm, while Saturday’s road game is scheduled to start at 7:05pm.

The Sheridan Hawks were home to the Yellowstone Quake Friday and Saturday nights as they honored our veterans with Military Appreciation Weekend!

The players wore special military themed jerseys that were auctioned off with proceeds to benefit the Wyo WEST Warrior Foundation, a local organization dedicated to supporting veterans and their families.

On Friday night, the Hawks opened the scoring 1:36 into the first period on a goal by Elijah Farris and continued to dominate the ice the rest of the night.

Sheridan put another three on the board in the opening frame.

The Hawks added another in the second and three more in the third period for a final score of 8-0.

The Hawks fired 59 shots at the Quake goalies while John Simon earned the shutout stopping all 14 shots.

Josh Serino was one the Hawks who had a multi-point night with a hat trick and one helper.

Saturday continued the trend with the Hawks outshooting Yellowstone six to one.

The Hawks threw nearly 80 shots on goal against the Quake in this contest, scored five times as a result, and skated away with a win as they held Yellowstone to 13 total shots on goal.

Quake goalie Hayden Laforet had a stellar game, allowing only 4 to get by him out of 77 shots he faced, but with the repeated peppering the win went to Sheridan despite his effort.

Forward Josh Serino scored a goal and two assists to lead the effort offensively for the hosting Hawks.

Ryan Rainey ended the night in the net with the W and a save percentage of 0.92,

Serino’s Friday night hat trick and additional goal on Saturday put him as the top goal scorer in the league so far this season with 20 goals in 20 games, and 4th in points with 37.

Sheridan And Big Horn HS Football Teams Prepare For 2024 Semifinals Vs. Natrona And Lovell – Sheridan Media

In the semifinals, both Sheridan and Big Horn will rematch a team that they each faced nearly 2 months ago.

Sheridan: The Broncs defeated Natrona County on the road in middle September 29-7, in a game which neither team scored in the 2nd half.

Since then, the opposition has had time to rebuild and has put together what is now the #1 defense in 4A and #3 defense in all of Wyoming 11-man football.

Sheridan Head Coach Jeff Mowry says he’s noticed what NC has done differently, and the Broncs are going to have to think fast, because the Mustangs can and will switch strategies as the game goes on.

“They were predominantly a 4-man front with a 1-high safety in the first time we played them and then moved into a 3-man front 2-high safety in the 2nd half and then we’ve seen quite a bit of that in the 2nd half of the season. They’re mixing in between the 3-man front and the 4-man front and our offense has really got to pay attention to that. We have some things that we think we can attack in the 3-man front and then some things that we can attack in the 4-man front, but our team has to be able to identify that. We’ve got to be able to see it on the fly, and we’ve got to be able to make adjustments in the play. We think we have some things, but there’s only one way to find out, and we’ll get out there and I think the thing we’ve got to do is we got to get the ball in our play-makers hands and try to get them in a little bit of space, and if we can get them in space in a 1-on-1 situation, our guys to a good job of making tacklers miss and running through tacklers.”

Kickoff in Sheridan on Saturday is scheduled for 1pm.

As big as the history is between these 2 teams, the home team has won every time in the post-season, not counting when they’ve played each other in the state championship game at Laramie (6 times at Sheridan, 6 times at Natrona County).

Big Horn: Big Horn and Lovell will meet in the 2A semi-finals on Friday at BH.

Kickoff is scheduled for 4pm.

The Rams won on the road in Bulldog country 2 months ago, but a lot has changed between then and now.

Lovell is led by quarterback Davin Crosby who averages nearly 226 passing yards per game, which is tops in 2A, and 3rd in all of Wyoming 11-man football.

Big Horn Head Coach Kirk McLaughlin says he’s well aware of the passing threat, and the Rams defense can’t put 100% of their focus on just the opposing QB.

“They got a good scheme and they got great athletes. Their quarterback, the Crosby kid, really good football player. Smart, but he’s got a good offensive line to protect him, and then he’s got just athletes out there he can throw it to and they do some good things, but you can’t overlook them from the run game perspective either. They’ve got threats there. They may not be the top rushing team in the state, but they are good enough running the ball that they keep you honest.”

This is the 3rd year in a row that these 2 teams have played each other in both the regular and postseason.

Sheridan HS Football: Sheridan is the #1 seed in the Wyoming High School 4A playoffs and for the second week in a row, they will play Laramie.

Last week the game was played down south, now it’s the Broncs turn to host.

The difference is that last week’s game didn’t matter much, whereas this one does, because one loss and the season is over.

Sheridan Head Coach Jeff Mowry says the Broncs may be playing the same opponent, but that doesn’t necessarily mean the game plan is the same.

Kickoff is scheduled for 6pm.

Big Horn HS Football: Big Horn will open up the 2A playoffs at home vs. Worland.

The Rams are 8-0 on the season and are the #1 seed out of the East, while the Warriors are 4-4 and are the #4 seed out of the West.

Kickoff is also scheduled for 6pm.

Since it is the postseason, the Wyoming High School Activities Association does require that host sites charge an admission fee to the game, regardless of what was done in the regular season.

Wyoming High School Volleyball Regional Tournaments: It’s also postseason time for Wyoming High School volleyball as the regional tournaments start today.

Sheridan is scheduled to play in the first round of the 4A East Regional Tournament at 1:30pm vs. Campbell County.

That game will be played at Cheyenne South.

Should the Lady Broncs win, they will move onto the semi-finals and play again at 6pm.

The regional tournaments are double elimination format and the top 4 teams qualify for next weekend’s state tournament at Casper.

Big Horn and Tongue River will play at the 2A East Regional Tournament at Pine Bluffs.

Both teams are the top 2 seeds, meaning they each get a first round bye and will play later today in the semi-finals.

TR will play at 5pm against the winner between Moorcroft and Pine Bluffs, while BH will play at 6:30pm against the winner between Sundance and Wright.

Arvada-Clearmont gets to play in the first game of the day in the 1A East Regional Tournament at Guernsey-Sunrise.

The Lady Panthers are scheduled to play Southeast at 9am, and will play again regardless if they win or lose.

Sheridan Hawks Hockey: The Sheridan Hawks Hockey Team haven’t had many home games so far this season, but made the most of it this past weekend.

Josh Serino put together a 2nd period hat trick on Friday to help the team shut out Rapid City 5-0, and then 4 different players scored on Saturday to complete the weekend sweep 4-2.

Serino says as far as Friday’s game was concerned, he credits the teams’ transition game as well as being in the right place at the right time.

The Hawks are about 1/3rd of the way through their season schedule, and have already completed about half of their entire road schedule for the season.

This week is an off week from competition.

Coach J.J. Santagata says the team welcomes the break and it’s a good time to practice and improve on a few things.

The Hawks will practice today, then take the rest of the weekend off and get back to work on Monday.

The next games are on Friday and Saturday November 8th and 9th at Bozeman.

The next home games are on the following weekend vs. Cody.

In other team news, Vincent Leaf got called up this week to practice with the Minot Minotauros in North Dakota, who are a part of the NA2HL.

Tongue River HS Girls Cross Country: The Tongue River Girls won their 2nd 2A State Title in School history this past Saturday in Cheyenne.

There were only 32 runners in their race and the Lady Eagles finished 4th, 5th, 11th and 12th individually.

Coach Tim Maze explains what the team strategy was before the race.

The TR runners were also affected by the Elk Fire.

The poor air quality forced the boys and girls to practice indoors a number of times and Coach Maze admitted running back and forth in the gym and in the same 5 hallways in the school building made for some boring scenery.

He adds that did not make for a very effective workout, but under the circumstances, that was all that could be done.

The TR girls actually finished tied for 1st in the team standings with rival Big Horn, but in the 5th runner tie-breaker rule, the Lady Eagles had a 5th runner and the Lady Rams did not.

Big Horn HS’s Lyla Marney Wins 2A Girls Cross Country State Championship: Freshman Lyla Marney is this year’s Wyoming 2A Girls Cross Country Individual State Champ.

She crossed the finish line in 19 minutes 45.3 seconds, which was 1 minute and 55 seconds faster than her next closest competitor.

Marney says not having any other runners near her for most of the race sometimes made it difficult for her to pace herself, but there was one thing that kept her going.

Marney adds now she’s going to transition into basketball, and return to running during the outdoor track and field season.

Sheridan College Rodeo: The season in the Central Rocky Mountain Region has reached the halfway mark.

Recently at the rodeo event held at Lamar Community College, Colter Martin of Sheridan College placed 5th overall in the Saddle Bronc Riding.

He is now 10th in the regional standings, while Jake Schlattman is 3rd, and that’s the spot you need to be in or better to qualify for the College National Finals Rodeo, when the spring season ends in April.

Also at the Lamar CC Rodeo, Martin teamed up with Taylor McGregor and the 2 would place 5th in the team roping.

Points earned during the fall season carry over the winter break.

The first rodeo of the spring season is scheduled for March 14th-16th at Gillette College.

Denver Nuggets Basketball: The Denver Nuggets won their 2nd straight overtime game last night, as the team won on the road against Brooklyn 144-139.

The Nuggets next play Friday at Minnesota.

World Series Baseball: The New York Yankees would avoid an LA Dodger sweep, by winning last night at home 11-4.

The Dodgers still lead the best of 7 series 3-games-to-1.

The Yankees were down 2-1 going into the 3rd inning and then Anthony Volpe unloaded with a grand slam, Austin Wells added a solo shot in the 6th, and Gleyber Torres uncorked a 3-run shot in the 8th.

Game 5 is today at New York.

Sheridan County HS Football Teams To Close 2024 Regular Season Vs. Laramie, Upton-Sundance, and Glenrock – Sheridan Media

This is the last week of the regular season for Wyoming High School Football.

Sheridan: The Sheridan Broncs have already secured the #1 seed in the 4A playoffs, meaning tomorrow’s game at Laramie means nothing to the team as far as the playoffs are concerned, but they’re going to go play the game anyway.

The Plainsmen are not yet in the post-season, and may need a little help to get in.

Depending on tomorrow night’s results, there’s a possibility that Sheridan and Laramie could rematch next week in the first round of the playoffs.

Until then, Sheridan Head Coach Jeff Mowry says the Broncs have primarily been a run first team, and although last week they had to go to the air more often they they’re used to, the team knows they can do it, but would like to get back to what they’re more comfortable with doing.

“What Laramie has shown us is a defense that I think we can have some success in the run game against, so that being said, if they change things up, which team have done against us in the past, we got to be able to adjust and throw the ball if necessary and I think last week was a confidence builder for our receivers and our quarterback that our pass game can carry us when we need to.”

Kickoff from Laramie tomorrow is scheduled for 6pm.

Big Horn: Like Sheridan, Big Horn is also locked into a #1 seed for the playoffs, but still have one more road game to play.

BH travels to Upton-Sundance tomorrow and as far as the playoffs are concerned, the game is worthless to both teams, because nothing will change.

The Patriots are out of the running, but Head Coach Kirk McLaughlin says the Rams still have a game plan.

“We’ll have some wrinkles for these guys, just like we have for every opponent. We’re not going to necessarily show our hand for what we think might be impactful for us in the playoffs, but we also we do what we do for the most part. We want to go show out. We don’t want to just show up, we’re Big Horn, we’re the #1 seed, none of that. We want to show up and prove ourselves.”

Kickoff at Sundance tomorrow is scheduled for 6pm.

Tongue River: The season for Tongue River will end tomorrow, but the Eagles have one more chance to show what they’ve learned and that they’ve been able to put it all together.

TR hosts winless Glenrock for senior night and it’s their first home game in more than 1 month.

Coach Steve Hanson says the players have already made peace with the fact that they’re not going to the playoffs and the Elk Fire created some unforeseen obstacles as the season went on.

Tomorrow’s game is a chance for them to show they’ve survived, they’ve endured and they can make the Tongue River community, fans and students proud.

“We have an opportunity to finish with a win and that’s a rare thing. There’s very few teams that are going to end their season on a win at this point. There’s the teams that are going to win and not make the playoffs and there’s the teams that are going to win the state championship. They’re the only ones that are going to end on a win. We have that opportunity and we’re going to take advantage of it.”

Sheridan Hawks Junior Hockey: The Sheridan Hawks Junior League Hockey Team dropped both games on the road this past weekend against defending Frasier Cup Champ Helena, but they were both 1-goal contests.

Friday’s score was 1-0 and Saturday’s score was 4-3 in overtime.

In Friday’s game, the opposition had 49 shots on goal and the only one that got through was on a power play.

Head Coach J.J. Santagata says the past 2 weekends the goalie play has been phenomenal and that’s kept the Hawks in some games.

There’s 2 teams left in the Frontier Division that Sheridan has not yet played and one of those 2 are on the schedule for this weekend.

The Hawks visit Butte who is currently in 7th place out of the 8 teams in the division.

Santagata adds the Irish have had a decent amount of success the past few seasons, and although their record doesn’t show it, the team is better than what their record indicates.

The puck drops on both Friday and Saturday at 7:30pm.

Sheridan will be back at home next weekend vs. Rapid City.

Hawaii Joins Mountain West Conference Full-Time: Teams that are staying in the Mountain West Conference will soon play another conference team in other sports besides football.

The Conference has announced that Hawaii, who has been a football only member since 2012, will join the conference full time in every sport offered by the Rainbow Warrior program, beginning with the fall season of 2026.

Currently in every other sport aside from football, Hawaii is a part of the Big West Conference.

This addition ensures that the Mountain West Conference will have the minimum number of 8 teams to be officially recognized by the NCAA as a conference, with the exception of baseball and softball, because the University of Wyoming does not offer those 2 sports.

Sheridan County HS Cross Country: Tongue River was scheduled to host the 2A East Regional Meet this Friday, but because of issues with the Elk Fire and with rain in the forecast, the meet has moved to a new location.

TR and BH will now race tomorrow at Hulett.

Meanwhile, Sheridan will run at the 4A East Meet on Friday at Cheyenne.

The State Meet is 1 week from this coming Saturday.

Denver Nuggets Pre-Season Basketball: The Denver Nuggets lost at home vs. Oklahoma City last night 124-94.

The Nuggets will conclude the pre-season tomorrow at Minnesota.

The regular season for Denver starts one week from tomorrow at home vs. Oklahoma City.

Major League Baseball Playoffs: The New York Yankees doubled up the Cleveland Guardians last night at home 6-3, to take a 2-games-to-none lead in their best of 7 American League Championship Series.

Game 3 is tomorrow at Cleveland.

Today is game 3 of the National League Championship Series between the LA Dodgers and the New York Mets.

First pitch is scheduled for 6:08pm.

That series is tied at 1 game each.

Sheridan College Rodeo: The Central Rocky Mountain Region Rodeo Circuit was at Laramie County Community College this past weekend.

Two competitors from Sheridan College placed in the top 3 of their respective event.

In the Saddle Bronc Riding, Jake Schlattman won the long go with an 82 point ride.

He would follow that up with a 74 point ride in the short-go, to place 2nd overall on the weekend, missing 1st place by 1 point.

As of now, he is in 2nd place in the region standings.

On the women’s side Maci Dehaan won the first round of barrel racing with a time of 16.24 seconds.

She stayed consistent in the short-go with a time of 16.28 seconds, which put her in 4th place overall for the weekend.

Dehaan is currently in 6th place in the regional standings.

The rodeo circuit is in Lamar, Colorado this weekend.

It will mark the end of the fall season, and the halfway point of the 2024-2025 season overall.

Points earned will carry over the winter break.

The spring season usually starts sometime in mid to late March.

Sheridan HS Girls Swimming and Diving: The Sheridan High School Lady Broncs placed 2nd out of 4 teams at a quad meet in Buffalo this past Friday.

On Saturday, the team won the 7-team Buffalo Invitational.

The team won all 3 relay races.

Kortney Fackrell, Liah Fjell and Hannah Mowry won 2 events each.

Sheridan County HS Cross Country: The regional meets are this weekend.

On Friday, Sheridan will race at the 4A East meet at Cheyenne.

Tongue River was supposed to host the 2A East meet, but due to the health hazards posed by the Elk Fire, the meet has been moved to Hulett and will run on Thursday.

The state meet is one week from this Saturday at Cheyenne.

Colorado Avalanche Hockey: The Colorado Avalanche are now 0-3 on the season, after losing at home last night against the New York Islanders 6-2.

The Avs next play tomorrow at home vs. Boston starting at 7:30pm.

Major League Baseball Playoffs: Mark Vientos hit a grand slam in the top of the 2nd inning yesterday, and that made the difference as the New York Mets won on the road 7-3, in Game 2 of the National League Championship Series against the LA Dodgers.

The series is now tied at 1 game each.

Game 3 is scheduled for tomorrow at New York.

In the American League Championship Series, the New York Yankees won Game 1 at home vs. Cleveland 5-2.

Game 2 is today starting at 5:38pm.

Sheridan HS Football: Due to concerns regarding the air quality, the Sheridan vs. Rock Springs football game has been moved.

The game will kickoff at 6pm at Natrona County High School in Casper.

That field was available because the Oil Bowl is being played on the other side of town at Kelly Walsh.

As for the game itself, yesterday Sheridan Head Coach Jeff Mowry talked about the Tigers’ offense, which is currently the top rushing team in 4A.

Statistically on defense, RS has been in the middle of the pack, and Mowry describes what they do and how the Broncs have to adjust.

Again kickoff from Casper is scheduled for 6pm.

Big Horn and Tongue River HS Football: Big Horn plays at Glenrock starting at 6pm.

As of last night, Tongue River’s homecoming game in Dayton is still on.

The Eagles take on Wheatland starting at 6pm.

Sheridan County HS Volleyball: Sheridan starts their second run through the 4A East Conference this weekend.

The Lady Broncs are on the road today to take on Cheyenne East, and tomorrow at Cheyenne Central.

Big Horn swept Natrona County in their lone match of the week.

The Lady Rams have this weekend off from competition.

Tongue River is at home today vs. Sundance starting at 3pm and then play tomorrow at Moorcroft.

Arvada-Clearmont is at the Kaycee Invitational.

The Lady Panthers take on Encampment, Lusk and Dubois today.

Tomorrow’s schedule and opponents are dependent on today’s results.

Sheridan County HS Cross Country: TR is scheduled to run today at the Moorcroft Invitational at Pine Haven.

Sheridan and BH have the weekend off from competition.

Next week are the regional meets and Tongue River is scheduled to host the 2A East Meet.

Sheridan HS Girls Swimming and Diving: Sheridan will compete today and tomorrow at Buffalo.

The State Meet is in less than 1 month.

Sheridan Hawks Junior Hockey: The top 2 teams in the NA3HL’s Frontier Division play each other this weekend.

Sheridan will play a visit to defending Frasier Cup Champion Helena.

The puck drops today and tomorrow at 7:05pm.

Sheridan College Rodeo: After a week off from competition, the Central Rocky Mountain Circuit resumes this weekend at Laramie County Community College in Cheyenne.

The fall portion of the schedule concludes next weekend and it will be the halfway point of the 2024-25 season.

University Of Wyoming Football: The University of Wyoming Cowboys are back in action after having last week off from competition.

The Pokes host San Diego State starting at 1:30pm.

Denver Broncos Football: The Denver Broncos will try to run their winning streak to 4 in a row as the team hosts the LA Chargers this Sunday.

Kickoff is scheduled for 2:05pm and you can hear that game LIVE on Fox Sports 106.3 FM.

Major League Baseball Playoffs: Cleveland stayed alive with a 5-4 win yesterday at Detroit, to tie up their American League Division Series at 2 wins each.

The deciding game 5 is tomorrow at Cleveland.

The New York Yankees await the winner as they beat Kansas City 3-1 last night, to win their series 3-1.

Game 1 of the American League Championship Series is on Monday at New York.

Today is the deciding Game 5 in the National League Divisional Series between San Diego and the LA Dodgers.

The winner advances to the National League Championship Series and that team will host the New York Mets for Game 1 on Sunday.

Sheridan HS Football: Karson Chase returned the opening kickoff 87 yards for a touchdown, Breck Reed returned a punt 62 yards for a score, and Kelten Crow scored 3 TD’s of his own, as the Sheridan High School football team shutout Kelly Walsh 56-zip for their 36th straight win.

Head Coach Jeff Mowry says all week he was concerned about the opposition’s style of play and how they hog the ball, but the defense did a phenomenal job making sure the Trojans’ game plan did not work.

With the win, the Broncs have now tied Worland’s 36-game unbeaten streak.

From 1953-1956 the Warriors went 34-0 with 2 ties.

Sheridan can break that record this Friday at Cheyenne Central.

Big Horn and Tongue River HS Football: Big Horn won at Burns 49-7.

The Rams next play this Friday at home vs. Moorcroft.

Tongue River lost at Newcastle 34-12.

The Eagles next play this Friday at Upton-Sundance.

Sheridan County HS Volleyball: Sheridan split road games, winning 3-1 at Cheyenne South, and then lost at Laramie 3-1.

The Lady Broncs next play this coming Thursday at Campbell County and on Friday at home vs. Thunder Basin.

Big Horn went 3-0 in their games played.

The Lady Rams won on Thursday 3-1 at Tongue River, won on Friday at Wright 3-0 and won on Saturday at home vs. Moorcroft 3-0.

BH next plays this coming Saturday at home vs. Sundance.

Tongue River went 2-1 in the games they played this past weekend.

The Lady Eagles lost on Thursday at home vs. Big Horn 3-1, then won on Friday at home vs. Moorcroft 3-0, and won on Saturday at home vs. Wright 3-2.

TR’s next scheduled game is Saturday at Greybull.

Arvada-Clearmont had last week off from competition.

The Lady Panthers were supposed to play at home vs. Ten Sleep on Saturday, but that game was canceled, because TS does not have a team this season.

A-C’s next scheduled game is Friday at Upton.

State Tennis: At the State Tennis Meet this past weekend at Gillette, the Sheridan Broncs finished as state runners-up, while the Lady Broncs were 8th.

For the boys, Jaeger Conrad and Tanner Hamrick are state champs at #2 doubles, while Matt Brown and Drew Miller were state runners-up at #3 doubles.

On the girls side Avery Ligocki and Mallorie Akers finished 4th in #3 doubles.

Sheridan County HS Cross Country: Back on Friday, Sheridan competed at a meet in Rapid City, while Tongue River was at Glenrock.

On Saturday, Big Horn ran in Missoula, Montana.

Freshman Lyla Marney placed 5th in the girls race against runners from Montana, Idaho and Washington state.

Sheridan Hawks Junior Hockey: The Sheridan Hawks split road games at Rapid City this past weekend.

On Friday, Sheridan won 6-0 as Zach Longnecker scored 4 of the 6.

On Saturday, the Hawks lost 4-3 in overtime as the opposition scored with 9 seconds remaining on the clock.

Sheridan returns home this coming Friday and Saturday vs. Great Falls.

The puck drops both nights at 7:30pm.

University of Wyoming Football: The Wyoming Cowboys finally broke into the win column, as they beat Air Force at home 31-19.

Quarterback Evan Svoboda was 15 of 21 passing for 165 yards.

He also ran 12 times for 70 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Sam Scott and Tyler King also scored rushing TD’s for the brown and gold.

The one team stat that helped the Pokes was that they were 7 of 14 on 3rd down conversions.

This week is an off week on the schedule.

Wyoming will be back in action next week at home vs. San Diego State.

Denver Broncos Football: The Denver Broncos made it 2 wins in a row on the road yesterday, as they beat the New York Jets 10-9.

Quarterback Bo Nix was 12 of 25 passing for just 60 yards, but he had 1 touchdown throw to Courtland Sutton.

Will Lutz kicked a 47 yard field goal with about 9 minutes to go and that made the difference.

The defense sacked Aaron Rodgers 5 times and held the Jets to 4 of 17 on third down conversions.

One note of injury was running back Tyler Badie who took a helmet hit to the back.

He left the field on his own power and was later carted off of the sidelines.

Denver returns home this coming Sunday to take on the Las Vegas Raiders.

Kickoff is scheduled for 2:05pm.

Colorado Avalanche Pre-Season Hockey: The Colorado Avalanche lost both of their games this past weekend.

On friday they lost at Dallas 4-2 and lost again yesterday at home vs. Utah 6-3.

The next pre-season game is tomorrow at home vs. Las Vegas.

The regular season starts 1 week from this coming Wednesday.

Colorado Rockies Baseball: The Colorado Rockies were swept at home by the LA Dodgers to conclude the 2024 season.

On Friday, the Rocks lost 11-4.

Saturday’s score was 13-2.

Ezequiel Tovar’s solo home run provided 1 of those 2 runs.

Yesterday the final score was 2-1.

Sam Hilliard went yard for Colorado in that game.

The Rockies finish the season with a record of 61-101, which is 2 games better than last year.

Major League Baseball Playoffs: The Major League Baseball playoffs start tomorrow, but there’s some unfinished regular season business taking place today.

The New York Mets and Atlanta have to make-up 2 games that were supposed to be played last week, but were postponed because of Hurricane Helene.

The reason the games have to be made up is because there are 3 teams battling for the 2 remaining National League wild card spots.

The Mets, the Braves and the Arizona Diamondbacks.

As far as today’s double-header goes, if one team sweeps the other, that team is in the playoffs and would travel to San Diego, the loser is eliminated and the D’backs would get in and travel to Milwaukee.

If the Mets and Braves split the double-header, that would create a Mets-Braves and D’backs 3 way tie, and the Diamondbacks would lose, due to losing head-to-head tiebreakers vs. both of the other 2 teams.

As for the rest of the National League Playoffs, the Dodgers and Philadelphia have the top 2 seeds and a first round bye.

In the American League playoffs, the top 2 seeds belong to the New York Yankees and Cleveland.

The wild card round will have Detroit at Houston and Kansas City at Baltimore.

The wild card round is a best 2 out of 3 at the home site of the better seeded team.
