Tottenham star Rodrigo Bentancur breaks silence on expected ban after Mail Sport exclusively revealed the midfielder is set to be hit with HUGE punishment for ‘racial slur’ against his team-mate Son Heung-min

Rodrigo Bentancur is anticipating a severe sanction from the FA for his alleged racist remark about South Koreans whilst on Uruguayan TV in the summer.

Appearing on the show, Bentancur was asked for a Tottenham player’s jersey and replied, ‘Sonny’s?’ – referencing his team-mate Son Heung-min.

He then added it could be Son’s cousin, too, because ‘more or less they are all the same’.

The FA confirmed that they have charged the South American for an ‘aggravated breach’ of their rules in September. A statement began: ‘Rodrigo Bentancur has been charged with an alleged breach of FA Rule E3 for misconduct in relation to a media interview.’

Mail Sport exclusively revealed on Thursday that the midfielder is likely to receive a seven match ban – but that figure is unconfirmed.

While on international duty with his national side this week, the Tottenham midfielder revealed that he had been informed by his agent that the punishment will be harsh.

‘Now the sanction is out, I want to be calm here with the national team. Then we’ll see when it’s time to go back.’

Bentancur has played an important role for Ange Postecoglou this campaign, featuring in 10 of Tottenham’s 11 Premier League games so far, starting seven.

The only league match the Uruguayan has missed this season was Spurs’ home clash with Everton on the second weekend, when Postecoglou’s side triumphed 4-0.

Breaking his silence on the incident earlier this summer, the former Juventus star took to social media to deliver a grovelling apology to Son, insisting to the Spurs captain it was a ‘very bad joke’.

He said: ‘Sonny brother! I apologise to you for what happened, it was just a very bad joke!

‘You know that I love you and I would never disrespect you or hurt you or anyone else! I love you brother!’

‘At the moment because of the FA process I can’t say much about it,’ said Son in September. ‘But I love Rodrigo, I love him. We’ve a lot of good memories since we started playing together when he joined.

‘He knew and he apologised straight afterwards. We were on holiday. I was at home. I didn’t even realise what was going on when he sent me a long message and you could feel it was coming from his heart.

‘When we came back for pre-season he felt really sorry, and almost cried when he apologised publicly and personally as well. He felt like he was really sorry. We are all human and all make mistakes and we learn from it.’

‘I love Rodrigo. I love him, I love him,’ the South Korean said when he first broke his silence on the incident in June.

‘He knows he made a mistake but I’ve no problem at all with him. We move on as a team-mate and friend and as a brother. We move on together.

‘We have to wait for what the FA says in their process. I can’t say much but what I can say is I love Rodrigo, there’s nothing more to say.’

Bentancur’s comment came less than a year after a fan was handed a three-year football ban for racially abusing Son.

The news comes as a blow to Ange Postecoglou, who has relied on Bentancur this season

Robert Garland made the racial gesture at the forward after he was substituted in the 89th minute against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on May 6 2023.

The 44-year-old fan pleaded guilty to racially aggravated harassment at Highbury Magistrates Court on August 25 and was convicted later that year.

The incident in May 2023 marked the third time Son had been targeted by racial abuse during while representing Tottenham last season.

Bentancur is set to miss a slate of crucial matches for Postecoglou’s side, including Premier League fixtures against Manchester City and Chelsea, as well as the Carabao Cup quarter-final against Manchester United on December 19.

Controversial trans athlete’s coach breaks silence amid women’s volleyball outrage

San Jose State’s women’s volleyball coach admits it has been ‘very tough’ to manage the team of late amid controversy surrounding transgender player Blaire Fleming.

Multiple opponents have refused to play against San Jose State in recent months after Fleming, who is in their third season on the team’s roster, was revealed to be a biological male.

The redshirt senior is at the center of a class-action lawsuit filed against the NCAA, which is being accused by more than a dozen female athletes of knowingly violating a law that prohibits sex-based discrimination by allowing a transgender player to compete in women’s sports.

And as the dispute rages on, Fleming – who is yet to publicly come out as trans – sparked further contention on Thursday by sending a ferocious spike off an opponent’s face.

After that game against San Diego State, San Jose State coach Todd Kress expressed his frustration with the ‘outside noise’ regarding Fleming, which has made it difficult to focus on volleyball of late.

‘Concentrating on what we can do on the court has, quite frankly, been very tough lately,’ Kress said. ‘There have been outside forces who have sought to divide our team, our university, our conference and our sport.

‘I know it’s been weighing on the players in our locker room who have put in years of hard work.’

Kress also opened up on the hate mail he and his team have been receiving amid the outrage over Fleming’s gender.

‘Some of it, to be honest, is disgusting,’ he fumed. ‘I’m more worried about our student-athletes and what they receive and how that’s impacting their mental health.’

‘We have an incredible group of young women who are trying to put the controversy aside,’ Kress added. ‘I just have faith that we’ll eventually be able to put the outside noise aside and be able to play for each other and find love for one another again.’

Fleming’s spike on an opponent took place on the SJSU campus with the San Diego State Aztecs leading the San Jose State Spartans 22-12 in the second set.

It was then that the player was set up by teammate Brooke Slusser before rocketing a spike off the face of San Diego State’s Keira Herron.

The Mountain West Conference has been notified by ICONS about athletes’ safety concerns regarding Fleming, who was named in a federal lawsuit filed by the organization. Slusser, the SJSU player who set Fleming up for the aforementioned spike, has since joined that lawsuit.

One motion obtained by DailyMail.com claims that Slusser voiced concerns about safety to school officials. Furthermore, Slusser says she was told by the school to refrain from speaking about the gender identity of teammates.

San Jose State has thus far declined to address the gender identity of any of its players.

‘We are operating our program under the regulations of both the NCAA and the Mountain West Conference,’ read a statement provided to DailyMail.com last month. ‘Our student athletes are in full compliance with NCAA rules and regulations.

After a tough opening round in the main event of UFC Fight Night: Paris, former French special forces operative Benoit Saint-Denis appeared to be seeing some success on the feet in the second, before he failed to see anything at all.

On the advice of the ringside physician, the highly anticipated main event fight was sadly, but understandably, waved off as the doctors became concerned that the already significant swelling suffered by Benoit Saint-Denis could be hiding some more severe injuries.

Despite all three judges scoring the second for Saint-Denis, they couldn’t do anything as the fight was taken out of their hands: with the swelling around his eyes being too severe for the UFC doctors to allow the fight to continue.

Speaking to Michael Bisping in the octagon following the fight being waved off, an understandably emotional Benoit Saint-Denis thanked the Paris faithful for their unwavering support as he noted that he felt ‘sleepy’ in the opening round.

“A big thank you to everyone for your support, it was absolutely unbelievable to be here… Unfortunately, in that first round I came out and I was a little bit sleepy, and it allowed him to do enough damage to then play the Matador in the later rounds so I’m sorry for that.”

The ‘God of War’ promised the Parisian crowd that he’d be back “stronger” next time around and that whilst he’s “sorry for that performance, I was proud to represent the flag.”

Saint-Denis has now taken to social media to once again thank his fanbase, and to acknowledge that injuries like those he suffered in Paris last night are simply part and parcel of the sport.

“Not my day, this sport is hard but amazing,” he wrote via his Instagram page.

“Thank you all for your unwavering support. Proud to represent France in the octagon at home. Respect to my opponent for facing me at home and congratulations to him.

“God puts challenges in our path and this one is nothing compared to what I’ve experienced.”

Given the severity of the swelling, Saint-Denis will likely be out of action until early 2025 but when the ‘God of War’ does decide to return to the battlefield, he could do so with Moicano in support.

Whilst Moicano is known for being one of the best trash-talkers in the game, the fan-favorite Brazilian would also show respect to Saint-Denis for fighting through such nasty-looking injuries at the post-fight press conference.

“I will be honest with you, I really respect Benoit Saint-Denis [because] what he did in this division – I think he’s very strong, he’s young but I think he needs to work on his game because usually, what makes him dangerous is what makes him vulnerable.

“He puts so much pressure on, if he touches you, he’s going to break you; but if he cannot touch you, it’s easy to see [strikes coming] and watching his fights, the way he stands up and swipes fighters always going 100%.”

Moicano stated that the fight in Paris went exactly how he and his team planned and even invited Benoit Saint-Denis to train with him for his next fight, whenever that may be.

“I was talking to my coach about once I got this guy down, he’s going do everything to swipe me and he’s going to gas out and that’s what happened.

“I invite Benoit Saint-Denis to my gym to train with us and I guarantee he’s going to be another fighter; he needs to get out of his comfort zone in my opinion but he’s a great fighter.”

Moicano currently trains out of American Top Team alongside the likes of possible future opponent Mateusz Gamrot, as well as the likes of Jorge Masvidal, Alexandre Pantoja, and even Saint-Denis’ former opponent Dustin Poirier.

In the latest episode of their pod, Broussard confirmed the news. He was indeed leaving the show, but not because of any beef with Parker or any of the far-fetched narratives out there. So, what exactly is the reason? Let’s hear it from Broussard himself. “I’m just leaving to focus on television people,” Chris stated, simply.

“I’m one of the co-hosts along with Nick Wright and Kevin Wilds of First Things First on FS1. And I’ve been doing that and the Odd Couple for the past two or three years. It’s a long grind. It’s not undoable, of course, but it’s a long grind. Basically been working from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, so it’s a complete lifestyle move,” Chris further explained on the pod.

The former point guard (Oberlin College, Ohio) just put an end to all the stories circulating around with his detailing. Aside from that, he also runs a national Christian men’s organization called The K.I.N.G. Movement. It helps men who follow the Christian faith and lifestyle by providing support, accountability, teaching, fellowship, and brotherhood. Chris Broussard mentioned that the extra time will help him spend more time on the org as well as some individual things he has planned.

But Chris Broussard did not forget to give credit to Don Martin, the Executive VP of iHeartRadio, and Scott Shapiro, the senior VP of iHeart and Fox Sports Radio. “They discovered us,” he stated emphatically.
