The video, which has since gone viral with millions of views, was shared by digital creator Siddhesh Lokare. In the video, the vlogger explains that someone sent him a photo of the couple – Bhimrao and Shobha – at Thane station a few days earlier. He later managed to track them down and interview them. He first asks them when they got married and the man states the exact date. The woman points out that they have been together for over four decades. Next, the vlogger asks them how often they come to the railway station. The woman replies that they come every day and they also go to deliver the snacks/sweets if someone has placed an order. We get a glimpse at some of their wares, which include treats like chakli, kachori, bhakarwadi, etc.

    In response to a question, Bhimrao also reveals that he lost his vision when he was two. The vlogger highlights that Shobha knew she was getting married to someone without sight. He asks her about the same and she smilingly declares that she still married him. She said that they always imagine themselves in each other’s shoes. Her husband says, “I am visually impaired. She has a deformed hand. We thought we’d complete each other.” She adds, “We’ll stay together… for life.”

    The vlogger asks the man how his wife helps him. He explains that she cooks food and serves water, etc. He also helps her out by chopping the vegetables for her dishes. His wife praises his cutting skills wholeheartedly. Next, the vlogger asks the couple what love means to them. The man replies that they need each other, especially at this age. The woman admits that they fight sometimes but they don’t stay away from each other for long. “It’s home. Utensils will collide but they will never break,” summarises the man. The vlogger also asks them what they are currently in need of. Shobha explains that they need a stall (for their wares) so they don’t have to remain standing most of the time to do their work. Finally, the vlogger asks the couple if they have a message for his generation (the youth). Bhimrao states, “Hard work is everything. You can’t live only for yourself. If you have lived for others, you have truly lived.”

    In the caption, the content creator wrote, “I discovered Bhimrao and Shobha near Thane railway station and what happened next was just cathartic. They visit Thane station daily to sell calendars, and snacks like chakli, laddoos, bhakarwadi and more. They stand as an example for me to realise what true love and companionship are.”

    As urban consumers increasingly seek health-oriented products, smart snacking in India has grown 1.2 times faster than traditional snacks, according to a report on Tuesday.

    About 63 per cent of surveyed consumers seek innovative and healthy snacking options while 50 per cent read ingredient labels to understand nutritional value,’ according to the report by consumer intelligence company NielsenIQ (NIQ).

    One in five snacks now has a health connotation in the country. “This segment is growing 1.2 times faster than traditional snacks in terms of value, presenting opportunities for brands to innovate in health-focused products and leverage the consumption trend,” said Sonika Gupta, Executive Director, Customer Success–India at NIQ.

    In consumer tech, the trend toward health-focused products is evident. Fitness wearables experienced a 59 per cent volume growth, while hot air fryers grew by more than 100 per cent, signalling broader health-conscious behaviour.

    India’s snack and confectionery industry ranks second in market size across Asia-Pacific, is transforming as urban consumers increasingly seek health-oriented products.

    The rise in lifestyle diseases has driven Indian consumers to opt for snacks that align with their health goals.

    Study showed that 84 per cent of surveyed urban Indian consumers exercise daily or regularly to keep fit and 48 per cent use a fitness or exercise app.

    Smaller, emerging players are challenging established players with competitive offerings, with single-serve packs driving demand and growing 60 per cent faster in smart snacking due to mainstream pricing strategies.

    The smart snacking segment’s growth is fuelled by consumption rates twice that of the general snacks market.

    The consumption preference is driven by small convenient pack sizes that have demonstrated 60 per cent higher growth compared to traditional small packs in the snacking space.

    Notably, Smart Snacking has been growing at 16 per cent in terms of value, but recent trends show a slowdown in count of new innovations and product launches, said the report.

    The recipe for this pav bhaji katori chaat was shared by the Instagram page @diningwithdhoot. Start by preparing the katori for the chaat. To do this, bind together boiled potatoes and breadcrumbs to form a dough. Stick the mixture to the back side of a katori. Once the mixture is firmly attached, place it in a kadhai with hot oil and deep fry until golden brown and crispy. Carefully demould the katori and fill it with bhaji. Top it with a generous amount of pudina chutney, imli chutney, chopped onions, pomegranate, and plenty of sev. Your pav bhaji katori chaat is now ready to be savoured!

    From Tamil Nadu to Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, Diwali is one of the biggest festivals on the calendar. Just like most parts of India, this is a time for family, friends, faith, fireworks and festivities. It’s also a time for Diwali delicacies. Most homes start prepping for Diwali a few weeks in advance and it’s not just shopping that’s on the cards. This is also a time when many home cooks prepare delicious sweets. It’s also a time for Diwali savouries that complement an array of sweets. In many homes across Tamil Nadu you will be served sweet, kaaram and kaapi (coffee). We’ll put the focus on the kaaram or savouries with three unique recipes that you can try at home:

    Recipe – Kavuni Arisi Murukku

    This is a unique twist (Murukku gets its name from the twists) on the classic murukku (chakli), which is made with black rice. Many experts consider black rice (or kavunni arisi in Tamil) a superfood because of the presence of anthocyanin, a powerful antioxidant. Black rice is also rich in fibre and is a source of phytonutrients that cleanse the body. This unique rice varietal adds a unique chocolate brown hue to this murukku:

    Ingredients:

    • 1 cup black rice (Kavuni arisi)
    • 1/4 Cup gram flour
    • 1 tbsp red chilli powder
    • 2 tbsp ghee
    • 1/4 tbsp Asafoetida
    • 1 tbsp White sesame seeds
    • Oil for deep frying
    • Salt to taste
    • Water as required

    Method:

    • Wash the black rice. Soak the rice for at least two hours.
    • Drain water and spread it on a cloth; let it dry completely.
    • Grind the black rice to a fine powder in a mixer.
    • Add the powdered black rice, gram flour, asafoetida, sesame seeds, red chilli powder, salt and ghee in a bowl and mix well.
    • Add water as required, and knead it to make a soft dough; add oil and knead again.
    • Use a murukku mould, fill the prepared dough in and press to get the perfect shape as you squeeze it into hot oil.
    • Deep fry till crisp on medium hot oil and flip over to fry both sides evenly.
    •  Drain out the extra oil with tissue paper once it’s fried to perfection.Store in an airtight container once it cools down.

    Recipe – Ribbon Pakoda

    Takes its name from the unique ribbon shape (that you can achieve with the right mould).

    Ingredients:

    • 1 cup gram flour
    • 1 cup rice flour
    • 1 tsp asafoetida
    • 3/4 tbsp red chilli powder
    • 1 tbsp sesame seeds (white)
    • 1 tbsp melted butter
    • 1 tbsp oil
    • Salt and water – to taste
    • Oil For deep frying

    Method:

    • Mix the rice flour, gram flour, red chilli powder, melted butter, oil, asafoetida and salt in a bowl, and mix well.
    • Keep adding small quantities of water to make a non-sticky dough.
    • Use a ribbon pakoda mould. Fill the dough in the mould and press the dough into hot oil in a circular motion to form a single layer.
    • Flip the pakoda to fry both sides evenly.
    • Drain out the extra oil with tissue paper once it’s fried to perfection.
    • Store in an airtight container once it cools down.

    Recipe – Karuvapellai Murukku

    I first came across this interesting twist to the murukku at Anandas in Coimbatore, one of the city’s most popular vegetarian restaurants and sweet shops. Anandas has an array of interesting savouries including a beetroot murukku with its red velvet hues and the karuvapellai (curry leaf) version that incorporates the flavours and goodness of curry leaf.

    Ingredients:

    • 1 cup rice flour
    • 1/4 cup roasted gram flour
    • 1/2 cup curry leaves tightly packed
    • 3 green chilis
    • 2 garlic pods
    • 1 tbsp cumin seeds
    • 1 tbsp sesame seeds
    • 1 tbsp melted butter
    • 1/4 tbsp asafoetida
    • Oil for deep frying
    • Salt as required

    Method:

    • Add rice flour, roasted gram flour, cumin seeds, sesame seeds salt, and asafoetida in a bowl.
    • Add melted butter and mix well.
    • Grind the curry leaves, garlic and green chilli along with water. Filter it before you add this to the flour mixture.
    • Knead the dough well, cover it with a cloth and set it aside for 5 minutes.
    • Use a murukku mould, fill the prepared dough in the mould and press to get the perfect shape as you squeeze it into hot oil.
    • Deep fry till crisp on medium hot oil and flip over to fry both sides evenly.
    • Drain out the extra oil with tissue paper once it’s fried to perfection.
    • Store in an airtight container once it cools down.
