NASCAR’s First Female Arab-American Driver Stuns as SI Swimsuit’s Newest Athlete

The 2024 season for the Venturini driver was impressive. This year, the Arab-American driver scored 837 points and finished 4th in the driver’s standings. In the ARCA Menards series, she finished 119 points behind champion Andres Perez de Lara. Also this year, the 25-year-old competed with Tricon Garage in the NASCAR Truck Series at Daytona International Speedway. She could only muster a T27 finish in the race due to two accidents during the race.

Toni Breidinger finished in the top 10 ten times in a row and was a consistent driver throughout the season. Following an impressive season, she is determined to come back stronger next year. BYU women’s soccer stuns No. 14 Texas Tech 2-1 with late goal | News, Sports, Jobs

BYU sophomore Avery Frischknecht scored the game-winning goal in the 89th minute at No. 14 Texas Tech, securing a 2-1 Cougar victory on Friday, Oct. 25, 2024.

LUBBOCK, Texas — In their last game of the regular season, the Cougars rallied from a 1-0 halftime deficit to defeat No. 14 Texas Tech 2-1, getting the game-winner with less than a minute to play.

In the 89th minute, Allie Fryer was fouled and earned a free kick. Lucy Kesler took the kick and connected with Avery Frischkneckt, who headed the ball into the bottom left of the goal in the final minute of the game, shocking the nearly 2,000 fans in attendance at the John Walker Soccer Complex.

The Cougars managed to hold on to their lead for the last thirty seconds of regulation to hand the Red Raiders their first home loss of the season.

Frischknecht’s now-four goals of the season have all been headers with McKenzee Vance finding her name on the scoresheet for the fifth time this season.

The win secured the No. 4 seed for BYU (8-5-5 overall, 6-2-3 Big 12) in the upcoming Big 12 Tournament. The Cougars will play the winner of No. 5 Oklahoma State-No. 12 Cincinnati on Nov. 2 at CPKC Stadium in Kansas City, Mo.

The Cougars played a physical game against Texas Tech, with six fouls of their own and 11 for the Red Raiders.

BYU had trouble maintaining possession for the first few minutes of the opening half, and Texas Tech took advantage with a corner kick in the second minute and an off-target shot in the third. The Cougars came back in the 10th minute with a shot and corner kick of their own.

The teams traded shots for the next thirty minutes, and the Red Raiders broke the 0-0 tie in the 41st minute with a goal from Taylor Zdrojewski off a free kick. Despite a shot attempt by BYU in the final minute, Texas Tech held its 1-0 lead.

The Cougars ended the first half with six shots, one on goal, two corner kicks and one save.

Texas Tech began the second half with a corner and a near goal, but BYU came back with a shot by Allie Fryer in the 52nd minute. The Cougars gained a free kick near the 18 off a Red Raiders’ foul, and Vance tied the game 1-1 with an arcing shot into the bottom right of the goal.

Texas Tech quickly regained possession and fired off an unsuccessful shot in the 55th minute, and BYU answered with two corners and a shot. The teams fired back-and-forth shots for the next thirty minutes, but the score remained 1-1 until the Kesler-Frischknecht connection in the final minute.

In the second half, BYU totaled 10 shots, three on goal, four corners and two saves.

Men’s Ice Hockey Stuns #9 Wisconsin

MADISON, WIS. – On Friday night, men’s ice hockey (1-0-0) took on #9 Wisconsin (0-1-0). In a tightly contested matchup, the Lions would stun the nationally ranked Badgers, winning 4-2. This would be the first time in program history the Lions have beaten Wisconsin, as well as a nationally ranked opponent.

GAME OVERVIEW

In the first period, the match would remain even for the first 11 minutes of the frame. With 9:09 left in the period, Jaeden Mercier would roof a one-timer into the top-right corner, while on the power play. Mercier’s goal would be assisted by John Evans and Noah Houle. Lindenwood’s lead would be short-lived, with the Badgers scoring at 15:42 into the period. The Lions would get the final answer in the period scoring with 1:44 left to go. The Lions second goal would come from a Mercier wrist-shot into the top-right corner. Mercier’s second goal of the night would be assisted by Ethan Zielke. After a period of play, the Lions would lead 2-1. Owen Bartoszkiewicz would make 12 stops in the period.

In the second period, Alex Lundman would score the lone goal in the frame to put the Lions up 3-1, two minutes into the period. Lundman’s goal would be assisted by David Gagnon and Drew Kuzma. After two periods of play, Lindenwood would lead 3-1. Bartozszkiewicz in the period would make 14 stops in the period.

In the third period, Wisconsin would be able to strike first, scoring 6:42 into the period, cutting the Lions lead to one. With 3:23 left to go in the final period, Artyom Borshyov would secure the Lions victory, scoring the Lions fourth and final goal of the game. Borshyov’s goal would be assisted by Gagnon and Evans. Bartoszkiewicz would tally eight saves in the final period, for a total of 34 saves on the night.

After the final whistle, the Lions improved to 1-0-0 on the season, and the Badgers fall to 0-1-0 on the campaign.

“We are proud of the effort our team gave tonight. We executed when we needed to, and the power play goal in the first period was the juice to really get this show on the road. Women’s Soccer Stuns Austin Peay in Dramatic 3-2 Comeback Victory

ST. CHARLES, MO. – On Sunday, women’s soccer hosted Austin Peay in a highly contested matchup. Lindenwood would come from behind to earn the 3-2 victory, playing down a player for 33 minutes. After the match, Lindenwood improved to 3-3 on the season. The Lions would have three different goal scorers in the match.

OVERVIEW

In the first half, lockdown defense would be the staple of the frame. Both teams in the half would be held off the scoresheet. In the frame, Lindenwood would outshoot Austin Peay 8-3. Austin Peay had the advantage in corner kicks, with eight, while Lindenwood had five. Caroline Ritter would make one save in the first 45 minutes.

In the second half, Austin Peay would break the scoreless tie in the 50^th minute of the match, scoring a header off a corner kick. Austin Peay would find the back of the net for the second time of the match in the 64^th minute. Austin Peay’s second goal would come from a header off a free kick. With less than, 26 minutes left to go in the match, Lindenwood would trail 2-0. In the 68^th minute, Lindenwood would be fouled in the box, leading to a penalty shot. Rachel Jackson would take the penalty shot for the Lions. Jackson’s penalty shot would be saved, but was able to collect the rebound, putting her next shot in the back of the net. With less than 22 minutes left to go in the match, Lindenwood would trail 2-1. In the 74^th minute, Lindenwood would once again be fouled in the box, leading to a penalty shot. Georgia Pardalos would take the penalty shot, scoring the ball in the bottom-left corner. At this point, the Lions would be tied 2-2 with the Governors. With less than two minutes to go, the Lions would be fouled outside the box, leading to a free kick. Tasneem Dizdarevic would be the free kick taker for the Lions, taking a shot from long-range, notching the Lions third goal of the game and first lead of the match. In the final minute of the match, Austin Peay had one final opportunity to tie the match up at three with an indirect kick inside the box. Austin Peay’s shot from inside the box went high leading to a Lions goal kick, and a Lions victory.

Ritter got the nod in net, making three stops.
