  • The end of an Eras tour approaches, marking a bittersweet moment for Taylor Swift fans

The end of an Eras tour approaches, marking a bittersweet moment for Taylor Swift fans

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — After more than 150 shows across five continents over nearly two years, the global phenomenon that is Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour is coming to an end.

There is no simple way to encapsulate the effects of Swift’s decision to put on a 3 ½-hour concert, showcasing 44 songs representing 10 different “eras” of her career — a feat she kicked off in March 2023 and will end Sunday in Vancouver, Canada. The tour shattered sales and attendance records and created such an economic boom that even the Federal Reserve took note.

But for many who attended the concerts, and the millions more who eagerly watched fan-broadcasted livestreams on their screens, the tour also became a beacon of joy — a chance not only to appreciate Swift’s expansive music career, but also celebrate the yearslong journey fans have taken with her.

“Right now we have this special designated time to be together, talk about the show and hang out,” said Tess Bohne, a stay-at-home mom of three turned content creator dedicated to livestreaming Swift’s concerts — by attending herself or coordinating with others to highlight their streams. “For some, it’s their therapy.”

Bohne, who has earned the title among the Swiftie community as the “livestream queen,” says she often interacts with fans hosting parties to watch an Eras concert live at home with their closest friends. People have also made lasting friendships as they geek out together watching the show from afar.

Swift has long been known for leaving Easter eggs for her fans to pinpoint and decipher, a quirk that quickly took on a life of its own during the tour as eagle-eyed devotees began analyzing the possible meaning of her outfits, surprise songs and subtle lyric swaps. The buzz has been so large that multiple mobile apps were launched so fans could guess and track all the various changes. There’s even a game that gives out prizes for correctly predicting various particulars of a show, including what color guitar Swift uses while playing “Lover.”

“Imagine your favorite sports team,” Bohne said. “They’re still a team, but they’re not going to play any games for the foreseeable future. That’s going to leave a hole for some folks.”

Swift herself appeared to struggle that the end was near while performing at her 100th Eras show in June at Liverpool.

“This is the very first time I’ve ever acknowledged to myself and admitted that this tour is gonna end in December,” she said, stressing that “this tour has really become my entire life.” Late last month, in Toronto, she briefly broke down at the thought of the tour’s impending end.

Swift kicked off the Eras tour in Glendale, Arizona, the first of many sold-out stadiums as the tour progressed first in the U.S. and later into South America, Asia, the United Kingdom and Canada.

By the end of 2023, it had become the first tour to ever gross over $1 billion and saw hundreds of millions of dollars spent on merchandise. She is likely to bring in over $2 billion by the time the tour wraps on Dec. 8, according to concert trade publication Pollstar.

Throughout the tour, Swift was named Time Magazine’s Person of the Year. Apple Music named her its artist of the year and Spotify revealed she was 2023’s most streamed artist globally. She dropped a box office-topping concert film and helped send NFL viewership skyrocketing when she began dating Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce. Toward the end of the tour, she released a coffee table book.

And if that wasn’t enough, she released re-recordings of her Nashville-era 2010 record, “Speak Now ” and 2014’s record “1989,” as well as released her 11th studio album, “The Tortured Poets Department.”

“I think it’s perfect in these times to have somebody like Taylor to kind of give us give us distraction, give us inspiration, give us hope,” said Ralph Jaccodine, an assistant professor at Berklee College of Music and a former concert promoter who has worked with Bruce Springsteen and others. “And this is a woman that owning it, she’s come a long way. And now she can talk about artist rights and women’s rights and equality. And really, just her work ethic is relentless.”

Even the word “era” has become ubiquitous, with fans and casual observers using the term to explain both frivolous and transformative phases — are you in your “villain era” or a “healing era”?

“I think this tour really solidified her position as a legend,” said Kayla Wong, an influencer who runs the popular Swift-focused Instagram account @headfirstfearless. “Whether or not you like her music, whether or not you think she’s talented, the numbers really speak for themselves. The tour broke so many records and was such a global phenomenon for so long that I think she’s achieved a level where it’s undeniable as to how everlasting her impact is.”

Yet the tour did experience its own dark moments. In Brazil last year, one concertgoer — 23-year-old Ana Clara Benevides — passed out and later died of heat exhaustion. In July, British police charged a 17-year-old with murder over a stabbing attack during a Taylor Swift-themed summer holiday dance and yoga class that left three little girls dead. News outlets reported that Swift met with some of the survivors backstage in London.

And in August, all three of Swift’s concerts in Vienna were called off after officials announced arrests over an apparent plot to launch an attack on an event in the city. Tens of thousands of Swifties from around the world had traveled to Vienna for the shows.

“Having our Vienna shows cancelled was devastating,” Swift later wrote in a statement. “The reason for the cancellations filled me with a new sense of fear, and a tremendous amount of guilt because so many people had planned on coming to those shows.”

Through the hardships and celebrations, Swift’s connections to her fans has only ballooned and deepened throughout the tour. After the Vienna cancellations, many fans flocked to the streets to sing Swift’s songs and placed friendship bracelets — which also became an iconic feature of the shows — on a nearby tree.

Over the past two years, the fandom has welcomed new audiences — both old and new.

“I feel like years ago, we were kind of all the same age and fans for the same reason,” Wong said of Swifties. “Now the fandom has people from all kinds of backgrounds, all ages, all different reasons for following her in the first place.”

  • Following David Taylor, Oklahoma State’s First Victory Gets Olympic Champion’s Theory in Line: “Getting Better”

Following David Taylor, Oklahoma State’s First Victory Gets Olympic Champion’s Theory in Line: “Getting Better”

Wow, Oklahoma State really started their wrestling season with a bang! And guess who was front and center to break it all down? That’s right—Olympic champ David Taylor. Riding the wave of energy from the opening weekend, Taylor dove into everything, from individual performances to team dynamics, leaving no stone unturned.

His insights really struck a chord with Cowboy fans. Taylor praised the squad’s effort but seemed particularly impressed with their team chemistry. It’s clear he sees something special brewing—something that aligns perfectly with his “always improving” philosophy. His reflections not only celebrated their victory but also set the tone for what lies ahead on their journey.

Dustin Plott embodies the “getting better” philosophy

Now, let’s talk about Dustin Plott. David Taylor had a lot to say about him. Plott is one of those standout wrestlers for Oklahoma State, and Taylor couldn’t stop praising his work ethic and attitude. “It’s great when kids believe in what you’re saying, and that’s Dustin,” he said. “He’s really eager to keep getting better.”

So, what makes Plott stand out? According to Taylor, it’s his willingness to listen, adapt, and take action without hesitation. In a recent match, Taylor suggested a strategic adjustment—cutting his opponent earlier to secure a stronger finish—and Plott didn’t hesitate. He made the change on the spot and emerged victorious.

Taylor kept it simple with his advice to Plott: just enjoy the ride. “Take it one match at a time and enjoy in these moments on the mat,” he said. It’s a good reminder that college wrestling is about more than just the competition; it’s all about those experiences.

When it comes to Oklahoma State’s roster, Taylor had some interesting insights. He pointed out that the blend of newcomers and seasoned wrestlers isn’t just a smart tactic; it’s part of their culture. This mix creates a vibe where everyone pushes each other to grow and thrive. “They’re not just teammates; they’re all about helping each other score those bonus points and succeed,” he said. Taylor really believes that this kind of supportive environment is key to long-term success. The younger guys soak up knowledge from the veterans, while the older ones stay motivated by competing with these eager newcomers.

He gives a lot of credit to this teamwork for Oklahoma State’s strong start and sees it as a solid base for even more achievements down the road. He imagines a team that doesn’t just rack up wins but actually gets better with each match, creating this awesome cycle of growth and friendship.

  • Overcoming Olympics Setback, David Taylor Gets Full Backing From OSU for Overturning Retirement

Overcoming Olympics Setback, David Taylor Gets Full Backing From OSU for Overturning Retirement

Another day, another legend coming out of retirement. When “Magic Man” David Taylor took up the job as OSU’s new head coach for the upcoming season, many fans were left heartbroken by the thought of not being able to see the Penn State alum in action anymore. But that’s about to change! In a shock announcement, Taylor announced that he will be returning to the mat for the upcoming 2024 Senior World Trials in Nebraska, Omaha in the 92kg weight bracket. Justifiably, folks over at OSU are just as thrilled.

In a post on X from September 14, the 33-year-old shared how his new camp is rallying behind his cause with excitement. In the accompanying video, one administrator from OSU narrates how Taylor found his love for wrestling once again despite his Olympic setback back in April. “I heard him say that getting this job had reinvigorated his love for wrestling,” says the person, and fans would be feeling the emotions taking over. Similar elation is exactly what Taylor’s boys are experiencing as well. “Coming into it, I didn’t think he would wrestle again,” says a Cowboys wrestler who has living the dream of learning the tricks of the trade from the 2020 Olympic gold medalist himself.

Another rising wrestler also revealed how Taylor has always assured his athletes that they would always find him in their corner. “Preached from the beginning, gonna do workouts with you, be on the mat with you, be in the trenches with you,” the student-wrestler hails his coach for his integrity. While the wrestlers are justifiably raging on as their HC prepares himself for the 2024 Non-Olympic World Team Trials, the administrative people of OSU are also cheering for their champion just as vehemently.

As an administration, we were definitely supportive of him. As a recruit, I would be really excited. I mean the head coach is living the life. he’s walking the walk, talking the talk,” rightly says one of the head honchos from OSU. With the program being unable to make its mark in the NCAA circuit in recent years, it looks like Taylor was just the thing the school needed to breathe fire into its engine. “He does everything the right way,” notes the person in the video, and it looks like their faith in the Olympic wrestler’s capabilities remains as unwavering as ever. Now, Taylor has the opportunity to not only relive his glorious time on the mat in Omaha but also show his collegiate foes that his coaching responsibilities have not dampened his skills as a prolific wrestler.

Davis Taylor’s chance to show his critics their place

During the introduction press conference as OSU’s new HC in May, Taylor said that this wasn’t a path he took just because his chances of defending the 2020 Olympic gold came to an abrupt end at the hands of Aaron Brooks. Instead, the Magic Man looked calm and collected. “I’m at peace with it, because I did everything I wanted to do in my career — everything and more,” Taylor said in the press conference, underscoring that he’s done chasing things in life. While he looked eager to embark on the new journey, his former squad at Penn State was reeling from his decision. Four-time NCAA champ Carter Starocci was fuming over Taylor’s alleged “betrayal” of the NLWC and claimed that he couldn’t wait to go against OSU to bring misery to the latter’s first year as a wrestling coach.

With uncarted faith in Cael Sanderson’s track record as a phenomenal wrestling coach, Penn State’s Athletic Director Pat Kraft also claimed that Taylor would be in for a bashing if the two schools crossed paths in the NCAA. “We’re happy for David. He’s one of ours. But, I’m gonna just tell you, we’re the best wrestling program in the world,” Kraft said in July, and it only highlights the intensity of the rivalry between Penn State and OSU at the moment. But will Taylor be able to squash the doubtful voices as he takes to the mat at the CHI Health Center? Can he dominate his opponents like he did during his Penn State days and secure a spot in the team to represent the USA in Tirana, Albania in October? We’ll have to wait to see.

Who Is Alison Lee’s Caddie at Solheim Cup 2024, Taylor ‘Shota’ Takada? Lifestyle, Career as Bagman & Other Details

Big stages and bigger ambitions often unfold slowly. Alison Lee’s journey to golf stardom has been marked by twists and turns, with a constant pursuit of excellence driving her every swing. Since turning pro in 2014, she’s fine-tuned her game and has searched for the perfect partnership to help her reach new heights. Her golfing journey has led her to the opportunity to work with several talented loopers, including Jason Gilroyed and Tyler Ekenberg.

But little did she know, her most pivotal partnership was yet to come. That’s when Taylor “Shota” Takada stepped onto the scene, bringing a fresh perspective and a wealth of experience. As fate would have it, their collaboration has sparked a remarkable resurgence in Lee’s game, with some of the most impressive performances of her career unfolding under Takada’s watchful eye.

Born on March 25, 1996, Taylor “Shota” Takada was raised in Hawaii. Though golf would eventually become his calling, Takada’s athletic beginnings were rooted in soccer. He was well known for his soccer prowess in high school. As a standout player for Honolulu’s Kaiser High School boys’ team, he honed his skills on the pitch. He later took his talent to the University of Nevada.

It was a journey that taught him valuable lessons in discipline, teamwork, and strategy. These qualities would serve him well in his future endeavors. But little did he know, his true passion lay just beyond the soccer field, waiting to be discovered.

As he explored opportunities beyond soccer, Takada’s interest in golf began to take shape. He started caddying for fellow University of Nevada alumnus John Oda, and in 2018, they both earned a T3 spot in the Barracuda Championship. He posted this first achievement as a caddie achievement on his social media handle, which earned him invaluable experience and insight into the game. His skills and work ethic soon earned him opportunities to caddie for other top players.

    Takada’s professional caddying career

In 2020, Takada partnered with Shugo Imahira, helping the Japanese professional achieve notable milestones. Together, they made the cut at the 2020 US Open, where he finished T61. Additionally, the looper played a crucial role in Imahira’s T44 finish at The Masters. This stint significantly enhanced his reputation and expertise on the golfing greens.

By November 2022, Lee’s caddie had expanded his portfolio by working for an impressive array of golfers. That includes LPGA Tour star Jenny Shin, Korn Ferry Tour pro Chan Kim, JLPGA star Mika Miyazato, Japanese player Naoto Nakanishi, and PGA Tour pro Doug Ghim. However, it’s his versatility and expertise that allowed him to adapt to different playing styles and environments.

In 2023, he started on the bag for Kaito Onishi at the Sony Open in Hawaii demonstrating his ability to thrive in high-pressure situations. And that’s what led him to Alison Lee.

Partnering with Alison Lee, Takada finds his perfect match

In the ending quarter of the year 2023, “Shota” finally teamed up with Lee. And since then the pair have been working together. The partnership has seen its fair share of success, too, including Lee’s runner-up finish at the 2023 Annika Driven By Gainbridge At Pelican, BMW Ladies Championship, and the CME Group Tour Championship.

Next was a T3 finish at the 2024 Fir Hills Seri Pak Championship. With Takada’s help Lee climbed to her career-high world ranking of 14th. As of September 2024 she sits on the 10th spot. And it appears the upward trajectory of her work with Takada could have plenty of room to run in the months to come.  Consequently, Takada’s partnership with Lee continues to flourish, but he remains grounded in his life beyond golf. But off the course, his passions, family, and hobbies bring him joy and fulfillment.

Off-the-course, Takada is a devoted family man. He often shares heartwarming moments with his loved ones on social media. He frequently posts pictures and tributes his family. But among all he has a special place in his heart for his mother, who raised him and his two siblings as a single parent. He once expressed his deepest admiration for her on Mother’s Day, saying, “Still wonder what I did right to deserve this woman in my life. Best woman I know. Single parent raising three kids.”

Through his social media posts, it’s clear that the Hawaiian cherishes every moment spent with his family. And he values the importance of loved ones in his life including his elders. Despite his growing success in the golf world, he remains grounded and grateful for the support of his family.

Beyond family, he enjoys staying active and exploring new interests. In his free time, he loves playing golf, soccer, or engaging in any activity that keeps him moving. As per his say, “I enjoy playing golf, soccer, or doing anything active! I love meeting new people and talking to them about their interests!”

This enthusiasm for life, people, and adventure reflects Takada’s outgoing personality.

UFC 306: Dana White brings in Taylor Swift Eras Tour producers among host of creatives in bid for greatest sports event ever

“We’ve got 10 mixed martial arts fights, including two title fights – I mean, these are really significant match-ups – and then we’re wrapping around this narrative of, as Dana calls it, a love letter to the Mexican people; to their culture, their fighting spirit, their warrior heritage and their tremendous history in combat sports.”

The vision that will come to life on Sunday afternoon (NZ time) includes fights taking place in different “worlds” – each one a nod to a different period in Mexican history – and a film that will play in segments between bouts on the main card.

Kartzmark said the promotion set lofty aspirations as soon as Sphere became a venue they wanted to explore.

“It was more like we’re doing this and it’s going to have to be the greatest sporting event of all time,” Kartzmark said.

“I’ve been here for 15 years, and Dana has a great way of shoving us outside of our comfort zone, but that push and his vision gets us to do things that we would not have been able to achieve probably on our own.

“It’s fun and it’s a real challenge. Once he was committed to doing it, we were all committed to doing it, then it was quickly pivoted to ‘Okay, how do we make this incredible? How do we take this challenge and turn it into an experience that people will never forget?’”

At the top of the bill, fan-favourite Sean O’Malley will put his bantamweight title on the line against Merab Dvalishvili, with Mexico’s Alexa Grasso putting her flyweight title on the line against Valentina Shevchenko in the co-main event.

Fans in the arena will be treated to an immersive experience, not just from the visuals around them, but the haptic seats in the venue will allow them to feel the action as well. That won’t be for every punch landed, but the seats will respond to the visuals as well as some in-cage action.

What adds to its lofty targets is the experience for TV viewers. Kartzmark said a lot of consideration was put into how they give those watching at home a new experience, and the result will see a pay-per-view unlike anything the promotion has broadcast before.

“I hope people will find themselves having an emotional experience. I think live sports, especially combat sports, are inherently emotional. There’s inherent drama there, but I think there’s going to be a wider range of emotion that people will experience.

“I certainly hope people of Mexican heritage feel like we have told their story to the extent that we can in this format; told it in a way that is respectful and that they feel patriotic and they feel really proud of the event [and] the way that it was presented.

“I think people will, after experiencing this, this will be one of the handful of sports or entertainment events that stick with them for the rest of their lives.”
