Carter also knocked the ball away from an East Central receiver on fourth down at the 1-yard-line to end the game.

    Man Utd Could Sign ‘Top Striker in World Football’ Instead of Gyokeres

    Manchester United’s search for a new striker is well underway, with newly-appointed Ruben Amorim keen to bolster the firepower department, and a plethora of talented options have been named. Previously, given the boss’ prior experience with Victor Gyokeres at Sporting, it was thought that the Swede would be one of the primary targets. However, recent reports indicate an interest from United in Bayern Munich talisman, Harry Kane, who could pose a much better opportunity.




    Despite splurging just over £100 million on duo, Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee, United supporters have still not been satisfied by the output from their current options. Goals have been an issue for the club this season, and their strikers have amassed just a single league goal each – a marquee signing in this aspect could provide a massive boost to Amorim’s future project.


    United Interested in ‘Top Striker’ Harry Kane

    Kane is no stranger to the Premier League, and he recorded a mammoth 213 goals in 320 appearances, securing the second-place spot in the all-time goalscoring ranks, before his eventual departure to Germany in 2023. Despite leaving in search of glory, the Englishman is yet to lift a trophy in Bavaria, but he is delivering regular world-class performances regardless.

    Previously described as “sensational”, his Bayern Munich teammate, Thomas Muller, also went as far as to say Kane was the best striker on the planet, over the likes of Erling Haaland. He told Sport Bild:

    “Who else do we have as competitors? Erling Haaland is of course great too, but they are different types of players.

    “For me, Harry is at the top of the current strikers. Harry is a footballer with every fibre of his being. He understands the game.”


    Given he beat the Norweigan to the European Golden Shoe last term with an impressive 36-goal haul, such a claim cannot be ruled out. Manchester United could see Kane as an almost guaranteed success, were he to make a return to English football, and his returns this season imply that he is still playing at an incredibly high level.

    Meanwhile, Gyokeres has shown little trouble in tearing apart the Portuguese top-flight, and has also starred in key Champions League fixtures against the likes of Manchester City. He is a slightly younger option to Kane, and undoubtedly talented. However, there are uncertainties over his transition to the Premier League, which does contribute to an element of risk.

    Especially given United’s immediate shortcomings in attack, a more refined and reliable option such as Kane could perhaps make more sense. Additionally, there is also the benefit of the experience of such a Premier League icon rubbing off on the current crop of younger strikers at the club, including Hojlund.

    Ultimately though, a deal is far from straightforward, and United may be asked to cough up a significant fee if they are to tempt Bayern Munich into the sale of their top-scorer.

    Week 12’s top 10 college football games: Tennessee-Georgia showdown, Playoff implications abound

    One of the more fascinating subplots in the first year of the 12-team College Football Playoff is how all of these realigned and suddenly crowded conference races are factoring into that Playoff picture. Sure, Tennessee–Georgia is a massive game for the 12-team bracket, but so is LSU–Florida. And Arizona State–Kansas State. And Clemson–Pitt. And a number of other matchups up and down the schedule.

    So let’s rank the top 10 games of Week 12, starting with honorable mentions and counting down.

    Honorable Mention: UCLA at Washington (Fri.), No. 25 Tulane at Navy, Virginia at No. 8 Notre Dame, Boston College at No. 14 SMU, Nebraska at USC, Cincinnati at Iowa State, No. 18 Washington State at New Mexico

    (All point spreads come from BetMGM; click here for live odds. All kickoff times are Eastern and on Saturday unless otherwise noted.)

    10. No. 23 Missouri (7-2) at No. 21 South Carolina (6-3), 4:15 p.m., SEC Network

    One of only two ranked matchups this week, though oddly this one won’t have much impact on the SEC or CFP races, despite Missouri head coach Eli Drinkwitz’s message following last week’s wild win over Oklahoma.

    The Athletic’s Playoff projection model gives both teams a less than 1 percent chance of winning the conference or reaching the CFP, but each is still battling to stay ranked, which could impact others. The Ole Miss and LSU resumes would benefit from a South Carolina victory, while Texas A&M is rooting for Mizzou. The only guaranteed winner is Alabama, which beat both of these teams.

    Line: South Carolina -14

    9. No. 20 Clemson (7-2) at Pitt (7-2), noon, ESPN

    A few weeks ago this looked like it would be a showdown of ACC contenders. Then Clemson lost to Louisville and Pitt dropped two in a row, the Panthers crashing out of the CFP rankings in the process. Now both teams are fighting just to stay in the ACC picture, and neither has a Top-25 win on the resume. Clemson is tied with Miami with one conference loss, but if both teams win out, the Hurricanes would have the tiebreaker. The Tigers can boost their overall resume with a rivalry win over currently ranked South Carolina in the regular-season finale but will still need help to make the ACC title game. Pitt needs an upset over Clemson to avoid a three-game skid after a 7-0 start.

    Line: Clemson -11.5

    8. No. 13 Boise State (8-1) at San Jose State (6-3), 7 p.m., CBS Sports Network

    Boise State is still on track to win the Mountain West and claim one of the five automatic Playoff bids, and running back Ashton Jeanty is on pace to finish the regular season with the second-most rushing yards in a single season, behind only Barry Sanders in 1988. Jeanty had 209 rushing yards and three touchdowns in last week’s win over Nevada, adding to his FBS-leading total of 23 rushing touchdowns. The Broncos face a San Jose State team in its first year under Ken Niumatalolo and in second in the Mountain West in yards per game allowed. San Jose State is fresh off an impressive win over Oregon State.

    Line: Boise State -14

    7. Arizona State (7-2) at No. 16 Kansas State (7-2), 7 p.m., ESPN

    Kansas State is ahead of No. 17 Colorado in the CFP rankings thanks to a narrow head-to-head win in October, but the Wildcats are a game behind the Buffs in the Big 12 standings after suffering a second league loss against Houston a couple of weeks ago. Even if K-State gets the help it would need elsewhere to reach the Big 12 championship, the rest of the schedule is a challenge: Arizona State, Cincinnati and at Iowa State, all three of which enter this weekend with winning records.

    The Sun Devils expect to get stud running back Cam Skattebo back from injury after he missed the win over UCF. The senior is eighth in the FBS at 125.4 rushing yards per game.

    Line: Kansas State -7.5

    6. No. 22 LSU (6-3) at Florida (4-5), 3:30 p.m., ABC

    If you’re wondering why this game, between two teams that got thumped last week, is this high on the list, it’s because there remains a rather plausible roadmap by which LSU can still make the SEC Championship Game. But that would require the Tigers to win out the rest of the regular season, starting with a trip to Gainesville. Florida hopes to have freshman quarterback DJ Lagway back from injury, and LSU is in need of serious defensive soul-searching after getting diced up by mobile quarterbacks Marcel Reed and Jalen Milroe in back-to-back losses, allowing a combined 80 points and 11 rushing touchdowns to Texas A&M and Alabama.

    Line: LSU -4

    5. No. 1 Oregon (10-0) at Wisconsin (5-4), 7:30 p.m., NBC

    The Ducks beat Idaho by 10 and Boise State by 3 on a last-second field goal to start the season. Since then, aside from the 1-point win over Ohio State, Oregon’s seven other victories have all been by at least 21 points — which is why it’s surprising this spread is only 13.5. The Badgers, coming off an idle week, have lost two in a row, including a 32-point loss to Iowa.

    Oregon has a chance to start 11-0 for only the second time in program history and first since 2010 when the Ducks reached the national championship and lost to Auburn. That was also the same season Wisconsin defeated No. 1 Ohio State.

    Line: Oregon -13.5

    4. Kansas (3-6) at No. 6 BYU (9-0), 10:15 p.m., ESPN

    BYU’s dream season continued with an incredible comeback win over Utah in the Holy War rivalry last Saturday, followed by a three-spot climb up the CFP rankings Tuesday. The Cougars are one of four remaining undefeated teams in the FBS and alone atop the Big 12 standings. They meet a Kansas team that has disappointed this season but looked much improved in recent weeks. The Jayhawks, winners of two of their last three, scored 45 points in a win over then-ranked Iowa State last weekend and can continue to play spoiler with BYU and Colorado up next.

    Line: BYU -2.5

    3. Utah (4-5) at No. 17 Colorado (7-2), noon, Fox

    A year after dominating headlines as a 4-8 team that finished last in the Pac-12, Colorado is a top-20 team with a Heisman Trophy favorite in two-way star Travis Hunter, as well as a clear path to win the Big 12 and reach the Playoff. The Buffs are still commanding plenty of attention (including Deion Sanders co-hosting a new talk show!), but they’ve earned it with their play. It’s created an ideal scenario thus far for the Big 12: unbeaten BYU and media darling Colorado at the top of the standings, with the potential for a conference-championship clash and possibly even room for both to reach the Playoff, if things break right.

    That starts with the Buffs hosting a 10 a.m. local time kickoff against a Utah team coming off that devastating and contentious rivalry loss to BYU.

    Line: Colorado -11.5

    It’s on college football’s adults to tone down rising tide of officiating call-outs

    2. No. 3 Texas (8-1) at Arkansas (5-4), noon, ABC

    Texas is up to No. 3 in the CFP rankings largely on the strength of a one-loss record. The Longhorns have mostly passed the eye test, like last week’s blowout win over Florida, but have zero Top-25 wins, with their best victory coming on the road at Vanderbilt. Still, quarterback Quinn Ewers looked healthy and sharp against the Gators, and Texas controls its own destiny in the SEC and will reach the league championship if it wins out, starting with Saturday’s road trip against a pesky, humbled and well-rested Arkansas. The Hogs are coming off an idle week following an embarrassing home loss to Ole Miss and expect to have dynamic quarterback Taylen Green healthy. A victory for Texas won’t change the resume criticism, but that won’t matter if it keeps stacking wins.

    Line: Texas -12.5

    1. No. 7 Tennessee (8-1) at No. 12 Georgia (7-2), 7:30 p.m., ABC

    This is an elimination game for Georgia, which dropped out of the Playoff field in Tuesday’s rankings and would surely be cooked with three losses. However, a win by the Dawgs — who are double-digit favorites — drags the Vols down to the quagmire of two-loss teams in SEC play, setting the table for some title-game tiebreaker nightmares. Among the eight teams entering the weekend with either one or two losses in the SEC standings, there are only two games remaining that pit those teams against one another: this one, and Texas at Texas A&M on Nov. 30. A lot could change before that, but Saturday’s result will be impactful.

    Tennessee quarterback Nico Iamaleava is questionable, with ESPN’s Pete Thamel reporting that Iamaleava is in concussion protocol after leaving last week’s win against Mississippi State. Georgia quarterback Carson Beck has had his own non-injury issues, throwing 12 interceptions over his past six games.

    Line: Georgia -9.5

    Handley junior linebacker Jo-Jo Johnson was named the district’s Defensive Player of the Year as the coaches’ All-Northwestern District football teams were announced on Tuesday.

    Johnson, who led the Judges in the regular season with 123 tackles (25.5 for loss) and three sacks, was also one of four Handley players to be named a First Team selection.

    Handley running back Hassan Akanbi (Sr.), offensive lineman Jaishaun Offutt (Sr.) and all-purpose Triston Darling (Fr.) were named to the First Team offense. Sherando lineman Parker Fredman (Sr.) and Millbrook lineman Ty Jahnigen (Sr.) also made the First Team offense.

    Sherando had five defensive First Team selections: defensive lineman Kaleb Nowlin (Sr.), defensive lineman Hunter Ratchford (Sr.), linebacker James Walters (Sr.), linebacker BB Lowery (Sr.) and defensive back Tucker LaFever (Sr.). Other selections on the First Team defense were James Wood defensive lineman Jordyn Sweetser (Sr.), James Wood linebacker Vincent Salvati (Sr.) and Millbrook defensive all-purpose Chris Bradford (Jr.).

    Field hockey: SU earns 4 major ODAC awards

    The Shenandoah University field hockey team had eight players earn All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference honors and four people earn major awards on Tuesday.

    Graduate midfielder Farren Winter earned ODAC Offensive Player of the Year honors. Winter has a team-high eight assists this season on top of her 14 goals, which ranks second on the team.  

    Graduate defender Elise Velasquez earned her third consecutive ODAC Defensive Player of the Year award after being an integral piece of the Hornets’ backline yet again this year.

    Ohio State moved up to No. 2 behind Oregon in the AP Top 25 on Sunday, and the Big Ten captured four of the top five spots with Penn State moving to No. 4 and Indiana to No. 5. According to the AP, it’s the first time the Big Ten has had four of the top five.

    It’s the first time the Big Ten has held the top two spots in the rankings since 2015, and it’s Indiana’s highest ranking since 1967. Room was created by a pair of top-five losses, as Georgia dropped from second to No. 11 after losing to Ole Miss and Miami fell from fourth to No. 12 after losing at Georgia Tech. It’s Georgia’s lowest spot in the poll since 2020, ending a 60-week streak of top-10 appearances.

    The top-ranked Ducks are a unanimous No. 1 for the second straight week, making them the first team to be unanimous No. 1 for multiple weeks of a regular season since Georgia did it eight times in 2021.

    The Big Ten holds the top two spots for the first time since Ohio State and Michigan State were atop the poll on Sept. 27, 2015. That was the second of consecutive weeks with the Buckeyes and Spartans at Nos. 1 and 2.

    The only non-Big Ten team in the top five is No. 3 Texas. Tennessee is up a spot to No. 6, and No. 7 BYU and No. 8 Notre Dame each moved up two places.

    Alabama is No. 9 after blowing out LSU, and Ole Miss moved up six spots to No. 10.

    Is Penn State properly ranked?

    No. 4 Penn State is becoming one of the most polarizing teams in the country because of its rankings in both the AP and coaches poll and by the College Football Playoff selection committee, especially for those who are stumping for unbeaten Indiana and BYU.

    Is that fair?

    The argument goes that Penn State is getting a helmet bump as a big-brand school over less traditional powers, especially Big Ten conference-mate Indiana. It’s a fair take: Penn State has no victories against teams in the rankings and a seven-point loss at home to Ohio State.

    Indiana has taken a lot of flak for its less-than-formidable schedule while romping through its opponents with nothing but double-digit victories until Saturday against Michigan. The Hoosiers’ schedule strength is still lagging behind the rest of the highly ranked teams.

    The better case might be BYU, which stayed unbeaten in dramatic fashion against Utah and has a couple of victories against ranked teams in Big 12 rival No. 20 Kansas State and No. 14 SMU, the first-place team in the ACC.

    You can make a fair case that either or both the Hoosiers and Cougars should be ahead of Penn State — and maybe even Texas and/or Tennessee.

    But allow me to play devil’s advocate: If the difference between Penn State, Indiana and BYU is one of these teams played Ohio State and the other two did not, is it really that egregious to have the Nittany Lions ranked highest? Penn State is not the only team impacted by this, but there is a tendency to put all teams into two buckets: ranked teams and bad teams, basically lumping everybody outside the Top 25 in the same grouping. It’s a poor evaluation. There are 134 FBS schools and another 129 more in FCS and each has a value.

    It’s also not just about who you played, but how you played, and while Indiana has gotten a lot of attention for running roughshod over its opponents, Penn State has six victories of at least 14 points, too, after Saturday’s 35-6 thumping of Washington.

Iowa State faced a similar fate, going from unbeaten and ranked to out of the poll after consecutive losses. The Cyclones lost to Kansas on Saturday.

    Vanderbilt also slipped out of the Top 25 again after losing to SEC rival South Carolina, which is making its season debut at No. 23. The Gamecocks (6-3) are ranked for the first time since 2022 and have one of the country’s most what-could-have-been seasons. Losses to Alabama and LSU by a combined five points, along with a blowout loss to Ole Miss, kept the Gamecocks out of SEC championship and playoff contention. The LSU game was especially painful because of a blindside block penalty that wiped out a pick six.

    No. 24 Missouri (7-2) returned to the rankings after the Tigers stayed in the “Playoff hunt,” according to coach Eli Drinkwitz. The SEC has nine teams ranked this week, one short of the record of 10 it set early in the 2015 season.

    No. 25 Tulane (8-2) is ranked for the first time this season, joining No. 13 Boise State and No. 16 Army as teams from Group of 5 conferences in the rankings in the pursuit of an automatic Playoff bid.

    How Matt voted

    • I’ve been lower than most voters on Ole Miss all season, but suddenly the Rebels’ resume looks a lot better. The loss to Kentucky still hurts and LSU is getting worse, but the Rebels dominated Georgia 28-10 for their most lopsided win against an AP top-10 team since 1969. Throw in the increased value of their 24-point win against South Carolina and the fact that they lead the FBS in yards per play margin, and the Rebels finally feel like they’ve earned their top-10 billing. I didn’t hesitate to jump them to No. 9 on my ballot — actually a spot ahead of where they are in the poll.

    Ole Miss fans carried out the goal posts — and the Rebels could be Playoff-bound

    • Am I too high on Indiana? Possibly, but who would have thought we’d be parsing a Hoosiers win over Michigan for being too unimpressive? No, the Hoosiers haven’t played a ranked team yet, but they’re 10-0 and they dominated each of their first nine opponents. I have them at No. 3, ahead of one-loss teams like Texas (no ranked wins), Tennessee (lost to Arkansas) and Penn State (no ranked wins), and they’ve been more impressive from week to week than fellow surprise unbeaten BYU. Ultimately, the margin feels very tight from No. 1 to No. 15 — perhaps the tightest since I became a voter in 2017 — and thus I have no problem rewarding the teams that just keep winning … and being swift to penalize a loss, like dropping Miami to 13th after it fell at Georgia Tech.

    • Only 30 teams received votes this week, and Tulane moved into the rankings at No. 25. The Green Wave were my runner-up for the final spot, as I opted for Arizona State, which is a surprising — and quiet — 7-2 but will have a chance to prove itself the next two weeks against Kansas State and BYU. — Matt Brown, college sports managing editor and AP Top 25 voter

    How Week 12 will impact the rankings

    There are two ranked matchups next Saturday, both in the SEC:

    • No. 6 Tennessee at No. 11 Georgia: The Vols have a chance to do the unthinkable and all but eliminate Georgia from the 12-team Playoff. But they haven’t stayed within single digits or scored more than 21 points against the Bulldogs since 2016.

    • No. 24 Missouri at No. 23 South Carolina. Nine of 16 SEC teams are ranked, though the loser here is likely to fall out.

    The top four will all by heavy favorites on the road — No. 1 Oregon at Wisconsin, No. 2 Ohio State at Northwestern, No. 3 Texas at Arkansas and No. 4 Penn State at Purdue — while No. 5 Indiana is off before its showdown with the Buckeyes.
