Darryn Peterson, the top-ranked guard in the class of 2025, is all set to decide between Kansas, Kansas State, Ohio State and USC this Friday.
A 6-foot-5 guard from Ohio who is playing his senior season at Napa (Calif.) Prolific Prep, Peterson’s decision will be carried live on CBS Sports HQ, the CBS Sports app and the 247Sports YouTube Channel at 9 pm ET/6 pm PT.
Peterson has taken official visits to each of his four finalists. Peterson visited Kansas on June 23, USC on Aug. 2, Ohio State on Aug. 30 and Kansas State on Sept. 27.
Peterson is ranked No. 3 overall in the 2025 class and is considered the No. 1 combo guard in the class.
Earlier this week Buckeyes head coach Jake Diebler visited with Peterson’s family while USC head coach Eric Musselman was in on Tuesday. Jayhawks head coach Bill Self was expected to be the last coach to visit with Peterson and his family when he dropped by on Wednesday night.
A high-profile recruitment, Peterson is one of many top-ranked prospects in the 2025 class nearing a decision. Cameron Boozer and Cayden Boozer, ranked No. 2 and No. 21 overall, came off the board on Oct. 11 and committed to Duke.

Peterson is a big guard with good positional size, length, and strength. He’s 6-foot-5, with a 6-foot-10 wingspan, and a cut-up and defined frame. What differentiates him most though is an effortless ability to score and make plays from a variety of spots on the floor, all within the flow of the game.
Peterson is extremely versatile. He’s a true combo guard who is equally effective playing on or off the ball. He has natural poise as a handler with now only rare moments when he can be rattled by pressure from smaller guards. He’s also a true multi-level scorer who can simultaneously see the floor, make reads, and pass well. He has a very smooth pull-up game, can overpower most opposing guards off the dribble, take smaller defenders into the post, and also thrive in ball-screens. His understanding of how to get to his spots is second to none and that’s why he’s such an efficient scorer, even in high volume, especially inside the arc (24 points per game in 3SSB play on 50% shooting from the floor and 57% on two-point field goals). He also has good natural instincts and has already developed an NBA caliber intellect when it comes to drawing fouls and getting easy points at the free-throw line.
While he was nearly a 90% shooter at the free-throw line, he was just under 31% from behind the arc. He has a mechanically clean and projectable stroke, but is still working to become a more consistent three-point shooter, particularly off the catch. He’s a good athlete, but doesn’t necessarily have overwhelming or dynamic pop when attempting to separate or explode at the rim. He plays with a ton of on-ball volume right now, and will inevitably have to learn to play less with the ball in his hands at the next level, even as a primary playmaker.
Peterson is a solid and competitive on-ball defender with very good playmaking metrics off the ball as well (3.4 stocks per game). He is also an elite perimeter rebounder (7.4 per game) with the size, strength, and length to eventually be a multi-positional defender.
Overall, there’s just not another guard in the country right now who can match Peterson’s combination of size, length, strength, real functional versatility, and effortless ability to get to his spots that can make the game look easy at times.
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Former Southern California football star Reggie Bush has filed a lawsuit against his school, the NCAA and the Pac-12 in a bid to recoup money made on his name, image and likeness during his career with the Trojans two decades ago.
In a brief news release from Bush’s attorneys announcing the filing Monday, the Heisman Trophy-winning tailback’s representatives claim he should be paid “to address and rectify ongoing injustices stemming from the exploitation of Reggie Bush’s name, image, and likeness during his tenure as a USC football player.”
“This case is not just about seeking justice for Reggie Bush,” attorney Evan Selik said in a statement. “It’s about setting a precedent for the fair treatment of all college athletes. Our goal is to rectify this injustice and pave the way for a system where athletes are rightfully recognized, compensated and treated fairly for their contributions.”
Bush was one of the most exciting players in recent college football history during his three years at USC from 2003-05 while winning two national titles and the Heisman. He went on to an 11-year NFL career.
Bush forfeited his Heisman in 2010 after USC was hit with massive sanctions partly related to Bush’s dealings with two aspiring sports marketers. The Heisman Trust restored the honor earlier this year and returned the trophy to Bush, citing fundamental changes in the structure of college athletics over the past 14 years.
Bush is still pursuing the separate defamation lawsuit he filed against the NCAA last year over the governing body’s 2021 characterization of the circumstances that led to Bush’s troubles.
It’s unclear how the new lawsuit will affect Bush’s relationship with USC, which had been particularly warm this year.
The school was ordered to disassociate from Bush for 10 years after the 2010 NCAA ruling, but USC had welcomed back Bush and hailed the return of his Heisman Trophy while returning his No. 5 to its place of honor among USC’s eight banners for its Heisman winners on the Peristyle at the Coliseum. Bush was scheduled to lead the current Trojans out of the Coliseum tunnel at an undetermined game later this season.
“We appreciate that the new administration at USC is trying to pick up the pieces of the former administrations’ unjust and improper handling of Reggie Bush,” Levi McCathern, the attorney also handling Bush’s separate lawsuit against the NCAA. “However, the delay in fixing this speaks volumes.”
USC didn’t immediately return a request from The Associated Press for comment on Bush’s new filing.
Bush is only the latest former athlete to seek compensation through the courts this year for their prior athletic careers under the new rules in college athletics.
Denard Robinson and Braylon Edwards were among several former Michigan stars who sued the NCAA and the Big Ten Network earlier this month. In June, a group of 10 players on NC State’s 1983 NCAA championship-winning basketball team sued the NCAA and the Collegiate Licensing Company to seek compensation for use of their names, images and likenesses.
The NCAA and major college conferences are currently attempting to settle three antitrust lawsuits related to NIL compensation for athletes. There is a settlement agreement in place to pay $2.78 billion to hundreds of thousands of college athletes.
The NCAA changed its rules in 2021 to allow athletes to make money through sponsorship and endorsement deals after fiercely fighting against it for decades.
The expanded Big Ten Conference schedule has not been friendly to Indiana women’s soccer, as the Hoosiers went 0-2 on the weekend following Thursday’s 1-0 loss to UCLA, along with Sunday’s 2-0 loss to USC. The defeat has pushed Indiana down to 5-3-1 overall and 0-3 in conference play.
Indiana has hit a wall in the offense department, as it has yet to score a goal in its first three Big Ten games after 14 goals against the previous two inferior nonconference opponents.
Shots were not a problem for the Hoosiers, staying on pace with eight attempts to the Trojans’ nine. However, most of the shots were low percentage from outside the box, leading to the ball either sailing over the net or creating a routine save for graduate senior goalkeeper Laurence Gladu.
Filling in for suspended head coach Erwin van Bennekom following a red card in Thursday’s match, associate head coach Tim Verschuren emphasized the importance of finishing on shots to get its offense back on track.
“We are getting the ball in good spots with our wingers and attacking midfielders, and then it’s just the final shot, the final pass or the final dribble,” Verschuren said postgame. “We want to put the defender on their back heel, so they are forced to make fouls or just spin them.”
The Hoosier defense has also fell victim to some difficult shots from outside the box that have found a way to the back of the net. A key point mentioned from van Bennekom following Thursday’s loss was to pressure offensive players in shooting positions to limit their open opportunities, which was not executed in Sunday’s match.
Early in the second half, USC senior midfielder Helena Sampaio possessed the ball on the edge of the 18-yard box and flicked it up to herself to avoid the defensive pressure before stinging the ball into the bottom of the net.
Sampaio earned second team All-Pac 12 honors as a junior and is proving to build on that campaign in 2024. Like Sampaio, UCLA junior midfielder Sofia Cook executed a world class finish from outside the box to give the Bruins a 1-0 lead over the Hoosiers in Thursday’s game.
Verschuren emphasized that the defense needs to have a stronger sense of urgency to close down on talented shooters like Sampaio and Cook.
“We did a good job of dealing with the first ball,” Verschuren said. “But our midfielders need to anticipate and then read where it’s going to be so that we can get there first to clean it up.”
Sampaio’s goal firmly put USC into the driver’s seat. The Trojans were then able to possess and defend throughout the second half. Senior forward Kayla Colbert added an insurance goal shortly after Sampaio to put the Hoosiers in a hole that they couldn’t climb out of.
Indiana will look to generate more offense and create better opportunities in its next match against Oregon at 10 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 26 at Papé Field in Eugene, Oregon, to kick off the west coast road trip portion of the schedule.

The United South Central Rebels’ football team ran into some tough competition when they took on Norwood-Young America on Friday, Sept. 13.
The Rebels lost the game 33-0. After a scoreless first quarter, NYA scored twice in the second quarter, once in the third, and twice in the fourth.
The stats heavily favored NYA, as well. They gained 254 yards rushing to 72 for USC, and had 147 passing yards while the Rebels had none. That put total yardage at 381 for NYA to 72 for USC.
NYA had 20 first downs to USC’s five and 56 plays to the Rebels’ 41.
USC did have more time of possession, 25:54 to 22:06. The Rebels also had two interceptions and one fumble recovery to stop three of NYA’s drives in the game. However, six of USC’s drives ended with punts, three by turning the ball over on downs and two by having the clock run at the half and at the end of the game.
NYA’s first score came on a 70-yard, nine play drive and ended with a nine yard run to the endzone, and a kick for extra point. The second one came on a 10-play, 51-yard drive ending with a 15-yard pass play on a fourth and 10 play. The kick was also good.
That put the score 14-0 at the half in favor of NYA.
It was a 10-play, 75 yard NYA drive in the third quarter that put the Rebels behind 20-0.
The two NYA scores in the fourth quarter came on a 61-yard run and a 24-yard run.
USC quarterback Kolt Bullerman completed one of five pass attempts for no gain. He also was the punter and kicked all six punts, with an average of nearly 37 yards per kick, and a longest punt of 48 yards.
Byron Getchell led the rushing with 37 yards on 13 runs. Gavin Bird had 16 yards on six rushes, Brody Steinhauer had one run for 13 yards and Dylan Bonsack, Isaiah Gonzalez and Seth Kayser each had eight yards on three, four and one run attempts respectively.
Next up for the Rebels was a game on Friday, Sept. 20, at Medford. Details on that game will be in the next Faribault County Register.
This week the Rebels take on Waterville-Elysian-Morristown on Friday, Sept. 27, and it is USC’s homecoming game.
