SATURDAY’S RESULTS Varsity Volleyball
St. Croix schools Central High School and Good Hope Country Day School came away with division titles from the 2024 Antilles Varsity Volleyball Tournament on St. Thomas.
Central High won the boys division title, beating St. Thomas’ All Saints Cathedral School in the final in three sets, 25-23, 12-25, 15-11; while Good Hope Country Day claimed the girls division title in two sets over St. Croix’s Educational Complex High School, 25-18, 25-23.
To set up the boys final, the Caribs downed island rival Educational Complex High in one semifinal 25-21, 25-21; while the Vikings defeated St. Thomas’ Antilles School in the other semifinal 25-16, 15-25, 15-12.
In the third-place match, Educational Complex High beat Antilles School in three sets, 25-22, 23-25, 15-11.
Central High’s Kimani Greenidge was named the boys division’s most valuable player, with Antilles School’s Sahid Letang the Charlie Davis Sportsmanship Award.
Named to the all-tournament team were All Saints’ Jaedon Hodge (best setter) and Gabriel King (best outside), Central High’s Aiden Rojas (best opposite) and Zamouy Swanston (best outside), Educational Complex High’s Tyler Roudette (best middle) and A’Jahnai Merchant (best libero), and Antilles School’s Miguel Toussaint (best middle).
In the girls division, Good Hope Country Day advanced to the final by beating Antilles School in three sets, 25-18, 21-25, 15-13, in one semifinal; meanwhile, Educational Complex High topped Central High in the other semifinal in three sets, 21-25, 25-21, 15-13.
In the third-place match, Central High defeated Antilles School in straight sets, 25-19, 25-21.
Good Hope Country Day’s Sophia Peifer was named the girls division’s most valuable player, while Central High’s Anesha Deterville earned the Charlie Davis Sportsmanship Award.
Named to the all-tournament team were Peifer (best outside) and Panthers teammate Kirra Lambert (best setter), Virgin Islands Montessori School and International Academy’s D’Kiesha Jourdyn (best setter) and Brooklyn Donovan (best middle), Charlotte Amalie High School’s J’Nisa Challenger (best outside), Central High’s Jaslene Cabe (best libero) and Educational Complex High’s Sativa Paul (best middle).
FRIDAY’S RESULTS Elementary Flag Football
Eulalie Rivera K-8 School 36, Pearl B. Larsen K-8 School 8: The Rams rode roughshod over the Dolphins in winning their St. Croix Interscholastic Athletic Association league game.
JayCeon Greaux accounted for all six of Rivera K-8 School’s touchdowns. He ran for one score, and threw for five others — two of those to Kadyn Graham.
The Rams’ other touchdown passes from Greaux went to Jah’shy Francis, Massiah Saldana and Lauriel Francis III.
Larsen K-8 School’s points came off a touchdown catch by Ajaveon Prince, followed by a two-point conversion run from Bryson Webb.
WEDNESDAY’S RESULTS Cross Country
All but one division had a repeat winner in the second St. Croix IAA cross country races at the Virgin Islands Track and Field Federation’s course in Negro Bay.
The only division that had a new winner from the season opener on Sept. 18 was in the varsity girls race, with Central High School’s Kirsten Jones winning in her debut start. She finished the 3-mile race in 28 minutes, 17.98 seconds.
Good Hope Country Day School’s Ayden Cintron won for the second straight week in the varsity boys race, finishing the 3-mile course in 17:17.66.
In the junior varsity races, Educational Complex High School’s Juvante Hurst won the boys race for the second time, completing the 2-mile course in 12:28.70; while in the girls race, Educational Complex’s Safiya Prasad made it 2-for-2 by winning in 14:31.79.
In the middle school races, also 2-mile events, Good Hope Country Day’s Cole Cullinan won his second boys start in 12:24.37, while Eulalie Rivera K-8 School’s Faith Eatmon was also a repeat winner in the girls division, winning in 14:23.49.
In the elementary races, Rivera K-8 School runners swept the top spots in both races for the second time, with Malachi MacLorrain repeating as the 1-mile boys race winner in 7:11.02, and Juvantia Hurst repeating as the 1-mile girls race winner in 7:26.37.
St. Croix’s William Bohlke won the 3-mile men’s open race in 18:16.58, while St. Croix’s Mikaela Smith won the women’s open race in 20:21.60.
